Weird Al[edit]

That's a lot of edits you've got there... now come clean, YOU'RE AL, AREN'T YOU? I've been speculation on what Al's wiki username might be, since I'm sure he edits wiki after seeing W&N...

Unfortunately, I see no Atlantic Records vandalisations in your history, so perhaps there is a hole in my logic. Still, I'll be watching you! ;f!

--Karafias TalkContributions 06:19, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm fairly sure that Grom is indeed Grom, not Al. Dungeonmaster 11:34, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since you know so much about Al, maybe you could help me out with one thing... Where were his grandparents (on his fathers side) from? His FAQ says Yugoslavia, but thats a huge term, expecially in the days of his grandparents (SFRY). Do you know which present day state exactly? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.250.34.197 (talkcontribs) 02:37, 3 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Your edits to Gaz[edit]

I agree that the paragraph you removed from Gaz was non-notable (and especially useless with the picture). Still, it's generally polite to post any significant removed content to the article's talk page. I have done so, so everything's just shiny. Heh. --INTRIGUEBLUE (talk|contribs) 16:38, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Weird Al FAC[edit]

Welcome to Esperanza![edit]

Welcome, Gromreaper, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

I saw the changes you made to the article and I'm about to edit my FAC comments, so nice work with that. Regarding the lead (infobox) image: I wrote that there's a debate going on about images of living people. Basically, what people are saying is that as long as a person is alive, a free image should be readily obtainable — so a fair use image that just shows what that person looks like shouldn't be used instead (you mentioned the image used in FA Elliott Smith, but the rule doesn't apply there: Elliott Smith is dead).

Now, the good news: I went ahead and did a Flickr search for free-use images of Weird Al. I found this one, which the photographer has licensed under a Creative Commons license. It's not the greatest photo in the world, but it's free, which means you can crop out Al, upload it with a Template:Cc-by-2.0 tag, and voila, a totally free image to lead off the article with, which will really help it pass to Featured Article.

If you want, leave a message on my talk page and I'll do it for you, even.

Alternatively, if you really hate that picture, you could send a boilerplate request for permission to Al's "people", asking for a photo of him to be licensed under CC or the GNU Free Documentation License; that would probably take a while, though, so if you're going to do it you might want to stick in the Flickr image in the meantime.

Anyway, excellent work on the article. I hope my input's been at all helpful. --keepsleeping slack off! 13:11, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, sorry to be a pain, but I'd like to take up your offer to crop Al out from the photo and upload it according to the 'pedia rules.
No problem at all. Consider it done. --keepsleeping slack off! 13:21, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Holy cow, how did you already see that? That was like five minutes ago! Well, anyway, the article's excellent and I would love to see Al on the main page. Congrats on a job well done. -- Kicking222 12:50, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

November Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Thank you so much for your support!

I can't say thank you enough for the support that you have shown me over the past few days. It means the world to me, and has certainly helped me along the road to recovery! I will cherish forever the kind messages and "gifts" that were sent to me and think of them whenever times are rough.

I didn't realise that my absence would cause so much concern, and I apologise if I caused anyone undue stress. I feel that I owe you an explanation, at least! for what happened, to return in some small way the kindness you showed to me. I will post it here as soon as possible, if you would like to know the reason for my brief departure and the links on my userpage.

Thank you for your kind messages, Gromreaper! I appreciate the support so much, and it has helped me get through things much faster than if I'd been alone. The kind words of supportive Wikipedians have helped to no end to solidify my faith in humanity and friendship. If there is every anything I can help you with to repay the favour, please don't hesitate to drop by!

Image:Weird-Al.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Weird-Al.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 05:02, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gromreaper, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Sylmurbel.jpg) was found at the following location: User talk:Gromreaper. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not re-add the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Reporting User:Fernwood[edit]

Something seems a bit weird with his userpage and claims. I need to 'bash him a bit' to make my point(s). Sure, anybody can but his/her interests in any order. If not in alphabetical order, why would his wife be after drinking if he's trying to sober up? Now that I think about it, it could have some significance being last. His recent claim of his wife's 'log of all Al songs' doesn't have any matches to elsewhere on the 'net. The Demented Music Database is one place among many other fan sites that maintain a list. Obviously, the logic follows that if she has heard it, somebody else has, and that one of somebody has most likely submitted it to a list. According to his userpage, he was born in '74, and whatever age his wife may be, she claims to have all of his songs in a list. (Seeing from your past edits, you must know that Al dates back to around 1980.) His first edit to his userpage has people telling him that he is an "Al expert", yet the two (1, 2) edits before creating his userpage would, no doubt, be considered vandalism. He also seems to have another IP address, in which the linked 'claim' is obviously false, and a logic blunder considering that his wife has seen Al at a concert. Gold Digger is too recent to be put on a Dr. D Basement Tape, but, we both know that it was incorporated into the most recent polka. I hate to be listing all of the obvious arguments in somebody's talk page, but at least I compiled it in one place. One last thought, his first edit to his userpage makes the claim that he is the Al expert, yet from that point forward, his wife knows 'all things Al'. Seems a bit Norman Bates to me. File permission problem with File:Weird Al Yankovic.JPG[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Weird Al Yankovic.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
