I think I am safe to say that you are unfamiliar with the British legal system, especially when it comes to photographs, so changing the images to 'non-free' when they are out of copyright, would be inaccurate. JimmyJoe87 (talk) 12:54, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

What made you say that above, JimmyJoe87? To prove that your argument unsound, I know that the Edge (magazine) logo (File:EDGE magazine (logo).svg) is unfree in the UK (but free in the US). It was formerly hosted at Commons, but then the UK court ruling found the logo original enough for copyright, leading to a Deletion Request discussion. c:Commons:Threshold of originality#United Kingdom also mentions the logo and considers most trademarks unsafe to use at Commons.

I wonder whether you read this website, which summarizes UK copyright law, which I gave out at FFD. Also, I wonder whether you fully read the full legislation of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Well... that page is too long to read, so here's the table of contents instead. UK copyright of photographs defined as "artistic works" taken by anonymous works can last longer if first availability is made very late but within 70 years after creation. Of course, that depends on authorship. (I'll explain further at FFD soon.)

I even know that the British government lacks a written constitution, contrary to our written United States Constitution, and that it relies on individual active laws instead. Do you have evidence contradicting my argument please? Thanks. George Ho (talk) 18:25, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Yes, the licence that I used for the images contradicts your argument on my images. Just because you have taken an interest in the Edge Logo, proves nothing as we all have our own interests. 'It depends on authorship' and we don't know who the author was for any of these portraits, so therefore the licence I used was accurate as they are out of copyright in the UK. JimmyJoe87 (talk) 22:01, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
I appreciate your efforts to provide free content. However, the "licence" you provided doesn't substantially refute my arguments. Anyone can change a licensing tag, depending on accuracy of copyright status. I tried my best to convince you, but I figure that you'll disagree with what I want to say about licensing. Anyone else can rebut your licensing claims. Nevertheless, I won't change the licensing tags yet until the results of FFD. I would suggest not to transfer or copy the images yet to Commons while FFD is intact. And please do not try to close any FFD nomination. George Ho (talk) 22:14, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
PD-URAA means it wasn't published within the US within 30 days actually, as this is what the licence says 'it was first published outside the United States (and not published in the U.S. within 30 days)', so what you just said was wrong. Furthermore the licence I used on the images clearly states: A photograph, which has never previously been made available to the public (e.g. by publication or display at an exhibition) and which was taken before 1st January 1948; or A photograph, which was made available to the public (e.g. by publication or display at an exhibition) before 1 January 1948. So either way the image is covered as we know it was taken before 1948, and if you wish to use the argument of 'How do you know it was released in 1947', then lets go off your theory that it wasn't however it is still covered by 'A photograph, which has never previously been made available to the public (e.g. by publication or display at an exhibition) and which was taken before 1st January 1948', as it is up to the discretion of the NPG on whether or not they release images to the public. There are thousands of images stored on the NPG database that have yet to be released, so because of that I would say that this is the first time the image has been released to the public. JimmyJoe87 (talk) 12:57, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
Template:PD-URAA describes three required conditions, one of them saying, "it was in the public domain in its home country on the URAA date (January 1, 1996 for most countries)". I'll explain more at one of FFD discussions. George Ho (talk) 17:14, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
In the FFD you mention Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Now the wikipedia article about this Act clearly states "Essentially, the 1988 Act and amendment establishes that copyright in most works lasts until 70 years after the death of the creator if known, otherwise 70 years after the work was created or published (50 years for computer-generated works)". Well we don't know who the creator was for any of the images in the FFD as they worked as photographers for now defunct companies called Elliot & Fry and Bassano Ltd, both of which ceased to exist in 1962/1963. So according to the act we 'otherwise' have to go off when this photo was created or published and since all the images were taken before 1948, it means that those listed in the FFD are out of copyright since it is more than 70 years since those images were created. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Get Up and Boogie by Silver Convention German vinyl single.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Get Up and Boogie by Silver Convention German vinyl single.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Murphy Brown

You seem to have an interest in the article. I was reverted twice when I tried to add this. The first time I was told the information was in the wrong place because the section was in chronological order. Actually, that could have been corrected by moving it to another place in the section. Anyway. I'm looking for others who might support my view.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:37, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
