Trayvon Martin

Hi, please take a look at the article about Trayvon Martin. Another editor has insisted on removing the Infobox, but I am not sure on what is right and wrong in this situation. As it is a bio article I believe it should have a infobox but other views are needed I guess. --BabbaQ (talk) 14:52, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

George, it's customary for persons involved in a dispute to request dispute resolution, and that request usually is made by one of the parties, not third parties, and after an attempt to resolve that dispute has failed. Thus I was perplexed by your request for a third opinion on the "Bridgegate" article, concerning a matter in which you yourself were not involved, especially after only a brief time had elapsed since the dispute commenced. Indeed, the matter was fairly quickly ironed out, so further escalation was unnecessary.

Subsequently you reached out to another editor for "intervention" on the same matter.Under certain circumstances such requests might be considered canvassing. Also it is not the usual procedure when disputes are underway to single out a third-party editor and ask that person to intervene.

When you see that a dispute is underway, there's certainly nothing wrong with going to a noticeboard, but even better is to express your own opinion if you are so inclined. That is the preferable path for a third party, rather than requesting dispute resolution, and/or ask for help from other persons, when the parties themselves haven't even finished talking and, as in this instance, don't need any help in resolving the matter. Coretheapple (talk) 00:28, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

By the way, a final note: I don't mean to talk down to you on this, and I just noticed that your contributions stretch back ten years, which might be before I even knew Wikipedia existed. I just was a bit perplexed that's all. No big deal. Coretheapple (talk) 00:39, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Ryan McHenry.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Ryan McHenry.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 20:29, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

I was about to IAR close the move request at the page and move th earticle itself when I noticed that this has caused confusion before for the article, with a previous move-undo cycle. Can you take a look and close the discussion instead? Note that the target should be Radhadamodar Sanskrit Vidyapeeth (the original move request has a slight spelling error). Abecedare (talk) 23:12, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

It's just one vote. I would rather wait for an administrator. Probably I'll vote instead. --George Ho (talk) 23:15, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Ok. Abecedare (talk) 23:17, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for commenting. But can I request that you change the spelling of the target to Radhadamodar Sanskrit Vidyapeeth instead of vidhyapeeth? That matches the sources and is the correct/regular transliteration of the word विद्यापीठ (meaning, institution of learning). Abecedare (talk) 23:39, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Archiving a talk page

Hi George. In archiving a talk page, Move procedure, as you did on Talk:228 Incident, is no longer used. Current standard method is Cut and paste procedure. The procedure keeps Edit summaries in one location, so it is easier to retrieve old discussions.―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 03:38, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

The page said it's no longer common, but it's still an alternative. Why not use WP:SPLICE instead? Also, I don't see any active old discussions at the moment. --George Ho (talk) 03:51, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
The guide says This page lists alternative procedures for archiving a talk page that are generally no longer used. and Other procedures were once considered equal options with the procedure described above. Over time both methods fell out of use and are generally not used. not it's no longer common. We should not use Move procedure any more. If you suggest WP:SPLICE, why don't you ask by yourself without disturbing other users.―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 10:02, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
I was summarizing. It's not even a guideline or a policy. It's more of a how-to. Are there policies or guidelines against this? --George Ho (talk) 19:22, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Barbara Hines (lawyer)

George, I'm not in agreement with your change of 'immigration attorney' to 'lawyer'? The 'immigration' adjective is central to the identity of the subject. I'd do it myself but I'm not that experienced with page renames/moves. Mbcoats (talk) 13:18, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

From WP:NATURAL: According to the above-mentioned precision criterion, when a more detailed title is necessary to distinguish an article topic from another, use only as much additional detail as necessary. For example, it would be inappropriate to title an article "Queen (rock band)", as Queen (band) is precise enough to distinguish the rock band from other uses of the term "Queen". "lawyer" is sufficient to identify the topic uniquely. --Izno (talk) 14:33, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Re: The Interview (2014 film)

Aloha. Since drive-by tagging is discouraged, can you explain why you added the POV and undue tags to The Interview (2014 film)? If it's because of the review, then I think it's best to tag the article after the review, since such tags before the review ends can often lead to a quick fail. If it is for reasons other than the review (such as your opinion), then please briefly state that opinion on the talk page. In fact, I would welcome your participation in either the review or the talk page. Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 10:18, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

City Place Mall ---> Ellsworth Place

Thanks for your help, George. And I apologize, as i'm relatively new to this. What I was trying to do is change the name of City Place Mall to Ellsworth Place, as the name "City Place Mall" no longer exists. Aside from the RM, is it possible to change the name of the article, too? Thanks Jamar2015 (talk) 17:50, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Before RM, that would be possible. During RM, usually it would be disruptive, but a nominator may move it if there is unilateral decision to support the move. Of course, you can read WP:RMCI for help. --George Ho (talk) 17:56, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
