Requesting protection

I must be careful on requesting protections. Now then: I have looked at the history page of "List of The Price Is Right pricing games, and there have been some IP additions reverted for unsourced statements. Is this a good example to request protection? --George Ho (talk) 05:36, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

When dealing with content issues (and in this case possible WP:3RR) RfPP may not the best "first stop" for you, I think. You might consider Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring. Though as a friendly reminder, please try to stay with facts when reporting. - jc37 05:50, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Cynthia (Cindy) Todd AfD

I agree with you that WP:NOBLECAUSE is an essay, not a policy, but I included it to try to explain the origin of this article. On occasion I see articles like this where a person or organization is not notable but has done a lot of good things and is well-liked. Cynthia (Cindy) Todd appears to be a well-liked yearbook advisor, and some of her yearbooks won some local awards. However, that's a far cry from Wikipedia's definition of notability. Reliable source or external link?

I found this source: http://www.webtender.com/db/drink/5520. I must add content about the drink in this article: Home Is the Sailor (Cheers). I'm not sure if that is a reliable source, but maybe adding it as an external link is beneficial. What do you think? --George Ho (talk) 02:49, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

What about this blog: http://blog.thescreamingviking.com/about-2/ --George Ho (talk) 03:18, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
I'm looking over Wikipedia:External_links#Links_normally_to_be_avoided. The blog looks shaky due to point #11.
I'm not sure about the recipe repository site. Might be worth asking someone else. - jc37 12:34, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

From User talk:David Levy:

What do you think: http://www.webtender.com/db/drink/5520 --George Ho (talk) 12:39, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

That definitely isn't a reliable source, and it needn't be added as an external link either. The article already contains a sufficient (if not excessive) amount of content pertaining to the drink. —David Levy 16:47, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Your redirect requests

Your redirect requests at WP:AFC/R contained the hidden embedded character %E2%80%8B. An admin created Bùliǎo qíng and Bù liǎo qíng without that hidden character. If the addition of the invisible character was deliberate, please make the case at the admin noticeboard regarding why it's necessary - I don't expect anybody will type it. Hi George Ho, it seems I forgot to place the actual protection on Friends, even though I placed the tag on the page. This was an oversight on my part, and Courcelles has protected the page instead. :) Best. Acalamari 08:06, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

RE: Home is the Sailor image

Ah! the file dint indicate it was copyvio, i jsut found it from her page and used it to WikiFairie the page. In that case its a right removal. THOUGH we should tyr and get some image there as in Becks for her introLihaas (talk) 19:23, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

"edit" the summary section should work. This shuld help too Template:Non-free_use_rationale#note-purpose. Wanna give it a shot?
btw - the episodes in season 5 about the proposal and the courtroom right should be notable enough to create? The bar burning and selling the car, getting it back? Woody marriage too (end of season triple episode it was)Lihaas (talk) 20:02, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
The first one is more pertinent to her role in cheers though...perhaps make a capture of her first appearance entering cheers when Sam greets her. That could also be used elsewhere to indicate the progression of their relationship and the leads of cheers in the next 6 seasonsLihaas (talk) 22:55, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
Screaming viking should do too. I think her first moment should do it, but maybe we should ask.
Other image would be, i think, from For Real Men Only, multiple occasions in the beginning when shes bitching/worried of being fired. Her boss lecturing. From The Little Match Girl is ultimately suitable. From This Time its for Real when shes self-absorbed at the end (and has the caveat of showing her in blond, based on the text on the page).Lihaas (talk) 11:31, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Non-free review

Okay Can you explain how that would be more efficient than FFD? What I've found in 95% of cases is that I nominate it and then it passes with no commentary, so that seems about as efficient as it could be. Please correct me on my talk page if I'm ignorant or ill-informed. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 00:53, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Actually WP:TWINKLE includes a checkbox for "possibly unfree files" so it's a viable option still. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 01:02, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
Wait I'm not suggesting that any of these files have disputed a source or licensing information, so why would I use WP:PUF??? —Justin (koavf)TCM 01:03, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
No I did not say that I used NFR... I think we're talking past one another here. I saw a bunch of screenshots which are indisputably non-free--no one is even claiming otherwise. The problem is that they do not meet the non-free inclusion criteria, so I'm nominating them for deletion. No one needs to investigate their copyright status, just ensure that if non-free media are used, they're used with an appropriate rationale. I don't want to come across as rude here, but I don't think you understand or else you wouldn't be suggesting NFR or PUF in the first place--those are not appropriate venues for these discussions. —Justin (koavf)TCM 01:13, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
Notifications Twinkle does in fact post to the uploader's talk. The problem is not passing a single NFCC criterion--it's passing all of them. Virtually any image could pass one criterion... Since something about File:TheOffice(US)1-04.jpg is critically discussed, then your rationale is totally appropriate: move it to be beside the relevant text. But in the cases of these screenshots, this is a very low stakes game as they can be undeleted at an time or easily recreated from DVD rips anyway. —Justin (koavf)TCM 01:32, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
Removal I'm skeptical about removing it, as I could still see someone challenging this (do we really need a picture of a box to aid us in knowing that he was in a box?), so I'm inclined to let FFD run its course. That having been said, if no one else chimes in, the image will very likely stay anyway. —Justin (koavf)TCM 02:36, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Template:Did you know nominations/4 2012 Pulitzer Prize Winners

Please see my comments at Template:Did you know nominations/4 2012 Pulitzer Prize Winners. Even when you want to split a multiple nomination it is suppose to be discussed on the original nomination page so that discussions are not going on at five different pages on one issue. I disagree with the split suggestion. Please merge your ideas back into the original nomination as a ALT hook suggestions.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 01:09, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

There is no chance it will be rejected in favor of split discussions by any DYK vet. I have about 600 DYKs now and I can tell you the proper procedure for splitting a multiple nomination is continued discussion on that discussion rather than 5 different discussions. If you don't revert before I get to it I will blank all the discussions you opened. If you want your alternate hooks considered put them on the nomination page I originally opened. If not do nothing.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:14, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

MFD

I think that at FFD one could have a review. Not sure though.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 20:45, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Italic title

If you look at Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars now, you can see the recommended way to do italic title markup for a book with a title over 50 characters.

The reason DISPLAYTITLE mysteriously only worked after the infobox is that when there is more than one title-display rule on a page, the last one wins, and the italic title rule in the book infobox, just like the separate {{Italic title}} template, defaults to "no italics" for very long titles.

Speaking of the separate template, it has an option switch for using with long titles – {{Italic title|force=true}} – and this is preferred over using DISPLAYTITLE and writing the whole thing out by hand.

I hope this clarifies things. — Paul A (talk) 02:05, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

File:CliffhangersDebut.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CliffhangersDebut.jpg

This is George Ho from English Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:George_Ho). I must say that this image.... it is no longer necessary and needed. This image is actually replaceable by text, as explanation of the rules is sufficient enough for this game. Actually, Cliff Hangers article was moved to the list some time ago, and the image loses its ability to help readers understand it anymore. To reply, try to contact me by clicking a link to my user talk page. Time to delete it? --173.51.200.210 15:22, June 13, 2012 (EDT)

I think it is still helpful, but I could really care less. I am surprised you are even asking where I made that change 11:29, 22 September 2011‎... That was like 8 months ago... I only did it because the article talks about the debut of the game in '76, and the image that was there with Drew Carey didn't fit in my opinion. So I found one from the debut where it did fit better. -- ShoeMaker   ( Contributions Message )   21:30, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
I don't think any section mentions Bob or Drew. Whatever host appearances are doesn't matter; debut doesn't matter. Even image of the board isn't needed, as the text itself mentions the board and the climber falling down. See WP:NFLISTS and WP:NFCC. --George Ho (talk) 22:01, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Like I said, I could care less; if you want to flag it for deletion, be my guest. Just don't expect me to do it as I feel the section is optimized by the picture. As far as it being free content, I pulled the screen-shot from a YouTube clip (which is under Creative Commons). -- ShoeMaker   ( Contributions Message )   04:22, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
There was no permission granted to upload part of copyrighted material, yet it may or may not be fair use in Youtube. Nevertheless, I'm sure that the text is sufficient, while the image is too much, as section already mentions the mountain climber. --George Ho (talk) 05:10, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey I saw you put up the tags on this page, I rearranged the info to make it conform better with the layout and removed the tags. If it still needs improvement let me know. Thanks and happy editing :)CouchSurfer222 (talk) 00:42, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

recommendation for closing NFCR discussions

I'd recommend that instead of removing sections that are resolved (for or against keeping the image) I would recommend to use an archive box as it done on AFDs or ANI or the like to close out the discussion. --MASEM (t) 23:06, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

WP:PRIME

Its not an essay at this point. It primarily references Jimbo's quote, and Jimbo's opinion, especially that quote, isn't just an average opinion - its been a standard reference for when discussing the matter of Wikipedia's purpose. So no, at this point I would not refer to it as an essay. Regards, -Stevertigo (t | c) 03:30, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

question

hi again. thanks for all of your help. is ken constantly complaining about me on your talk page whenever i ask you a question acceptable on this site? he keeps saying i should keep away but he is the one who undid all of my edits, not the other way around. is it safe for me to edit again? JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 20:39, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

is there something wrong with this edit? [1] he is mentioned on the wikipedia page for that band which i linked to. it is also easily confirmed if you just google it. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 04:49, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

also he seems to want to keep posting on my talk page for some reason. should i just ignore it? JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 04:49, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Just don't respond to Ken; also, ignore whatever Ken says about you, okay? By the way, you are not the same person who uses an account, Bouket, are you? Just curious... Possibly, you type the same way as Bouket, behave as Bouket, and have other aspects of Bouket. --George Ho (talk) 04:53, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
i was reading about bouket. that user seemed to edit completely different pages from me. i looked at their contribs. i couldnt even see where they posted with beyond my ken, did you see it? i saw on ken's page he filed some other sock puppet things for some other users too. i'm not sure what to think of it. i don't know when ken had a fight with bouket but it seems like it was a while ago. thanks. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 04:57, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
My interest changes too, so I don't think interests, like "different pages", can prove that you are not Bouket. --George Ho (talk) 05:20, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
that is true. i just wonder why he thinks i am bouket at all? he is the one who started this whole problem. you can see he never edited any of those pages until he reverted my changes, so i think it is clear he followed me. isn't it? also, did you find where the problem he had with bouket was? just curious. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 05:27, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

i'm not sure if you noticed my question about the percy jones edit. i'm confused because, maybe it was removed because it had no references. i'm just confused how it looks different from the times i removed something without references, and apparently that was bad. so why was removing my addition in this case good? i hope you understand my question, thanks. i'm trying to be careful now. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 04:57, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm not implying that any removal is good or bad. Well, always, even if certain, adding a citation is best recommended. Wikipedia article cannot be used for citations. I wonder if you know how to add references or did not read rules and instructions. --George Ho (talk) 05:20, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
yes, i knew about references. i think i am confused about when they are needed and when they are not. i guess whenever possible, they are a good idea. i didn't see any reference for percy jones being in melon on the melon page, so i thought for something like that, maybe you don't need it. but maybe it's better to add it in both places? it's very easy to find, so i am confused why he removed it there, but then put back in the information about 'side cleavage', which i could not find in the references or elsewhere at all. if you understand, i think if you could explain it maybe then i would grasp it better. i am still optimistic. am i grasping it better? JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 05:27, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Why have you always discussed Ken and somewhat been curious about Bouket? Why putting Ken down for doing things to you? I mean, maybe it would be best that you don't mention him or implicitly mention him at all. Same for mentioning Bouket. Mentioning either one is distracting and/or puts you under suspicion, okay? --George Ho (talk) 05:33, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

sorry, it is only because you asked about it. it's ok maybe this isn't worth it after all. i don't know what i'm under suspicion for. i didn't make any edits that were against the rules, did i? JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 05:43, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
...Let administrators decide if they're reading this. For now, I want you to worry about yourself, your future, and your intentions for Wikipedia, okay? --George Ho (talk) 05:46, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
that is fine. i would like to know if i can put the melon information back in to the percy jones article if i have a reference, and also why a reference is not needed for melon to point to percy jones, only for percy jones to point to melon. if you don't want to explain just say so and i will figure it out somehow. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 05:49, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
...Just to be sure, this is first account, right? Either way, using a different account or multiple accounts by the same person, like you, could lead you to trouble. From now on, don't touch the article and any other related articles, and no sneaky moves, no matter what promises you would make (or break). --George Ho (talk) 05:59, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
i'm confused. i should not edit any articles right now? or just the cleavage article? that seems to be the one that started it all and made him revert everything else, even articles he never edited before i think. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 06:14, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
I know you're feeling frustrated, right? Right now, you are implicitly mentioning "him" and what he did or didn't do or something like that; that's what I meant for you to avoid. I hope he leaves you alone; not touching articles of Percy Jones and other related topics anymore will make him leave you alone, okay? He is still wary about you, and editing Percy Jones article or Cleveage article would make things worse. Either those or all articles, no offense, would be okay. However, if you still want to contribute, what other articles do you want to edit? --George Ho (talk) 06:32, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
usually i just read wikipedia and i edit when i see something needs help. i don't plan to spend time actively editing it. i just like to contribute when i see something needs to be fixed. is that ok? i really don't see why percy jones can't link to melon. he was in that band. i am very frustrated because i don't know why that can't be in there. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 06:35, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

... Hmm... from now on, if you see any other problems, tell me exactly, so I'll take a look. Only adding [[ and ]] and/or piping can do, but be serious. Also, do not mention Percy Jones, the band Melon, or anything related anymore right now. Let a different person, not a family member or a friend, but a stranger handle that, okay? For me and others, too, not just for yourself? --George Ho (talk) 06:44, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

i'm sorry. i really don't understand why i can't do that. i think maybe i'll just stop, since i can't ask you any more questions without mentioning anyone. thanks for your help anyway, but i still don't understand what i did wrong at all to deserve being attacked like this. i guess what my friend said about this site is true. thanks anyway. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 06:52, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
No, no, no. You didn't deserve it, and this site is not bad. However, if you decided to leave, then I might have failed to make you stay. On the other hand, I hope things can cool down, like a year or two, okay? Well, I fail to know you well, but at least we're friends for now, right? --George Ho (talk) 07:06, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
so there is nothing i can do about being attacked by a user and not being able to edit freely on this site? i don't know how you can say the site is not bad then. this is stressful enough as it is. if users don't want me to contribute what i can here then i guess i won't. and i'll know not to trust the site even more than before. it's very sad, i was hopeful for it, and you seem nice, but you are getting treated badly too. sorry to involve you in this. i know you tried but i guess there is no way i can edit this site now and no one else to ask about it. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 07:10, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey, you can still read WP:5P and WP:NOT without editing. Editing is good, but reading is better. Well, best wishes. --George Ho (talk) 07:18, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

didn't someone violate the second and third things on WP:5P? how am i supposed to believe in this site now? i guess there is nothing i can do about it. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 07:48, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Well, why not posting images in http://commons.wikimedia.org/? That is easier than anything else, such as Wiktionary or Wikisources. Then you can add images in any Wikipedia pages. --George Ho (talk) 07:52, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
i dont think you understand. i dont believe in wikipedia. i started editing because even though my friends said its a bad site, and always wrong, maybe i can help make it better. i saw jimmy wales give a talk and saw some other talks about it. but i dont have time to spend looking for things to fix. people should just read it, and if they see problem, they fix it. apparently only experienced users are allowed to do that. so point #1 of WP:5R does not apply to me. and points 2 and 3 don't apply to ken. i know im not supposed to mention him. i fell in a trap, sorry. im done. this site has proved its point. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 07:54, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
i'm sorry i'm just very angry that he attacked me and it seems he can edit anything now and i cant because he hallucinates i'm someone else. this is ridiculous. i can't speak rationally now. i don't know who else to turn to. JohnJeanBartiste (talk) 07:58, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
WP:wikiquette assistance? I'm not sure if it would help, but I hope it helps you stay? --George Ho (talk) 08:04, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi george. Why are you changing the templates at MRV? - jc37 21:10, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

There is less activity going on right now at MRV. Therefore, I changed everything to make MRV function like WP:NFCR. --George Ho (talk) 23:31, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

It's a new process. And many people still are unaware of it. Be patient, I'm sure there will be more entries than we may wish for soon enough. - jc37 00:31, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
I reverted the change. But you did make some good edits in there, like the change from DRV to MRV. So we'll have to find those again and fix them. (I noticed you're already working on that : ) - jc37 00:39, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Good article reassessment

Hi George. I see you have initiated some Good article reassessments, but have not finished the process. You need to choose whether you want to conduct a community or individual reassessment and create the page (detailing how it fails to meet the criteria. The easiest way to do that id to click the link at the top of the Lindsay Lohan and Lucille Ball talk pages. You will need to let main contributors and wikiprojects know too. I will revert all broadening content to the new name. That change is contentious.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 20:21, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

And be advised: I'll take this to content dispute if you do that. --George Ho (talk) 20:23, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
How can we go about doing that?LuciferWildCat (talk) 21:57, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, I have requested a page protection moments ago. --George Ho (talk) 21:58, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Assimilating my writing style into WP:SIZE and WP:NOTPAPER?

Dmcq requested that I must assimilate myself into WP:article size for the sake of condensing long articles and splitting subtopics into subarticles. However, I fear that splitting could result badly. What can I do? --George Ho (talk) 19:57, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

If this hasn't been already resolved, a link to the discussion, and to the article(s) in question would help me understand your question more clearly. - jc37 19:56, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

userifcation

I will do nothing, too much opposition to something logical. I didn't even create it anyways.LuciferWildCat (talk) 00:57, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

That consensus will easily be overturned by the overzealous, it was the comments of but a few, the full force of those supporting keep was not taken into account and I am sure they will go back on it and make it Twitter only again.LuciferWildCat (talk) 01:00, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

George: Thanks for the information on the pension. The applicant apparently was Carswell's second wife - unless he had more than two. I put the information into the "Later life" section of the article. I also put other information from a letter on the site into a footnote about the date of his resignation from the regular Confederate Army as well as the fact he was ill as well as recently elected (again) to the Georgia state legislature. The date from the U.S. Adjutant General in 1933, based on official records, seems both more authoritative and more likely than the later date given by other sources but I left it to the reader to draw the conclusion. Dallas history merge

Hi George, I finished doing the history merge from Dallas (season 1) to List of Dallas (1978 TV series) episodes (season 1) that you requested. While I was doing it I noticed that the earliest revision of List of Dallas (1978 TV series) episodes (season 1) (previously located at Dallas (season 1)) also seems to be copied from somewhere. Do you know which page (and which revision of that page) it was copied from? We need to preserve the attribution to the original author(s), so we will need to either do another history merge, or use a template like {{copied}}. Thanks — Mr. Stradivarius (have a chat) 23:05, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
