Ghettopoly[edit]

How is it WP:OR? A Chinese American group actually denounced the game, and the game got support from Taiwanese board game bloggers. Fastfoodfanatic (talk) 18:47, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! WP:OR refers not to whether a claim is true or false, but whether the article supports it with conclusions stated explicitly in a reliable source.
I reverted two changes. The first was "among others (including a Chinese American group)", which was an unsourced addition. If it can be supported by an inline citation, feel free to add it back. For example, the other two claims in that paragraph are supported by respective citations to the Tampa Bay Times and USA Today.
The second was a section on "Support from Taiwan" which claimed broad support from the Taiwanese internet, but cited only one blog post. This has issues both because the claim (support from the Taiwanese internet) is broader than its citation (just one instance of support), and because blogs are rarely cited. You could either:
  • narrow the claim ("Blog X, a Taiwanese board game blog, reviewed the game favorably.")
  • or find a citation to a reliable source, though it should likely be within the "Controversy" section and not its own.

If you look at the history, someone actually edited the text after my edit to make it seem like support was broad, when I never claimed that, among other changes. Fastfoodfanatic (talk) 15:14, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see, strange! To be clear, these are the edits I'm referencing. I think my advice applies to those, but let me know if you read it differently. Generously (talk) 15:33, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is the current version better? I am not adding the blog right now. It is revision 1117224107, in case someone changes it (can't figure out the permalink!) Fastfoodfanatic (talk) 15:56, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think so, definitely. For future reference: [1] Generously (talk) 15:07, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging pages for speedy deletion[edit]

Hello, Generously,

Please stop tagging pages for deletion. You are very new and inexperienced and don't fully understand the Criteria for Speedy Deletion. Please stick to improving articles, fixing typos and awkward language, finding sources and stay away from administrative duties until you have been editing for a few months.

If you have questions about editing on Wikipedia, please bring them to the Teahouse where experienced editors can offer you advice and support. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:51, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at your contributions, I see you PROD'd an article four days after you started editing on the project. This is very unusual behavior for a new editor and your edit summaries reveal more knowledge about policies that a new editor would ordinarily have. What previous accounts did you use to edit before this account? Liz Read! Talk! 02:55, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! This account is a WP:CLEANSTART for privacy reasons. It's my first time doing it — I can note that on my user page if it'd clear up this kind of confusion going forward :)
I'd rather not name the old account publicly for the same reason I started this one, but it wasn't under any kind of sanction or in an edit war when I stopped using it. I could look into figuring out the email function to send it to you, or you're welcome to checkuser to see it.
Separately, happy to lay off the CSD button for a bit, though since it's my first time G5-ing I'm kind of curious what I got wrong. Was the sockpuppeteer banned after it created the article? Generously (talk) 03:09, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and to head this off: is clean-start-ing every, say, 6 months okay editing behavior? I was planning on doing that starting with this one. Or is it too disruptive to admins and other editors? Don't want to add any more confusion to the already over-burdened. Generously (talk) 03:36, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
