Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Dear Geht: welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user talk (discussion) page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. A third option is to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator.

One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD!   -Aleta 00:05, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Typos and grammar[edit]

Yes, of course you're allowed to fix them! Welcome to Wikipedia :) - Alison 00:07, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the warm welcome! Thanks. Geht 00:52, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

...but regarding [1] it is usually not right to edit the talk of other editors on the talk pages unless it is to remove personal attacks, blatant trolling and vandalism (like blanking or utter nonsense). Other edits that are permitted are to archive talk or add section headings and other tidying up. On articles you can edit what you like but think of the talk as a discussion separate from the article so errors and typos are what was said - they can help others in meta analysis of the editor. Personally I don't like anyone touching anything of what I add to talk pages. Ttiotsw 00:25, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for the caution, I'll remember not to edit others' talk then. Hm, what's archiving? I'll go look that up. Geht 00:52, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
