Opera singer strategy[edit]

Gagagracija, in your sandbox, I'd like to see more progress towards formatting, as pointed out on the talk page. Also, can you please focus on a subset? We don't need a complete list of her appearances (ever, not even Callas has that), we don't need early successes unless unusual and worth mentioning, we don't need flowery language from critics, not even paraphrased, - ever. Please say on the sandbox talk what you do for improvement, such as fixing opera titles to italic, with the composer. - My suggestion is to get a short (!) article ready to be published, - you can afterwards add in moderation. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:29, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gerda Arendt Thank you! I'll try to rewrite. Gagagracija (talk) 10:38, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt: Gerda Arendt The plan: I will tidy up all the techical details like formating, italic, etc, (I read those instruction on 16th) and then we will squeeze it into a compact neat wiki-style article. Please note, that table or list in Career section shows her opera title and role first time sung at a new venue. It is not a list of every appearance at those venues. One opera title per venue, no repeat performances are in the list. I am searching for a way to make it shorter, but I do not see what to cut out - all is true and how it happened, she sings at many venues, travels a lot. Also, maybe it is not obvious: If i wrote for instance: "dramatic soprano", I did so because I found that some person in the know (a critic, or PhD professor, or the chairman of musical things) said so somewhere (in a review, or a critic, in opera house brochure), and i cited where I read it and who said so and when. Every statement is in fact not mine, and I do have references. Maybe that is not reflected in the way I wrote. I can add: please consider, some people like to know how it happend in life, the history of how someone gets to singing opera on stage once a week for decades (endless education and hard work in supportive environment, plus the talent). I have tried to pass on that info to readers. Geting to sing the same "early success" 2002 pro debut roll for 29 times in 2019 is extraordinary by any measure, considering she is not a single role specialist. My take: a bit of flowery is helpful, we are talking about artists and entertainers who make (some) people cry of joy. Colourful, positive charachters who enrich our lives. Flowery can highlight that fact, and also make the article interesting to read. Gagagracija Gagagracija (talk) 01:42, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, but we need to respect that this is an encyclopedia. I hope that we will find a way, together, and still believe that the best start would be a short article with just the basic facts, well sourced. Then, when you learned the technical details, you can expand without my supervision, - see, I'm selfish, my time is limited ;) - dramatic soprano is a fine term to use, but "powerful voice" is not, do you se the difference? Perhaos read soprano and see what other terms have articles. The last women opera singers I dealt with - for the sad reason that they died were Inge Borkh, Montserrat Caballé and Jessye Norman, - look there for more models. None of them lists when all roles were sung, and certainly not for each new venue, with details. Perhaps you could trim it to the roles, and give several venues (as long as not repetitive) following a role entry. Readers who want to know can study the sources. - Today is the birthday of another singer, Thomas Mohr, - enjoy. He is on the Main page in the DYK section, just click on Main page on the left. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:13, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just to let you know that I haven't forgotten, but am busier than I like, sorry. Perhaps next week will be calmer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:25, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: Gerda Arendt I think I have done my best by now. I read many wiki opera biographies (including Thomas Mohr, Inge Borkh, Montserrat Caballé and Jessye Norman), all are very informative, one can only feel gratitude that Wiki exists. All have some reflection on critics' reception, singing at special or unusual places, and description of what has happened in time, so I tried to follow the format and present an article in a similar fashion. This is the shortest I can do, and still present major relevant details (considering that she has travelled a lot, and has been on stage very often - by any yardstick). I have included the artists in the recordings, and some major contributors in some of the latest operas (with DYK in mind...). It is informative, actual, and in my opinion interesting to read while being an encyclopedia article. Please have a look when you get a chance, and please advise how to make it better. @Gerda Arendt: Gerda Arendt Perhaps this week? I would apprecite greatly. Gagagracija (talk) 08:51, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I hope that I'll get to it. Márta Kurtág on the Main page, and vacation to Thursday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:53, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: Gerda Arendt No rush! I would just like to make a neat wiki article - after a massive copyright failure in the previous attempt ( it seemed logical to copy-paste a career info from a very reputable source, Opera Australia). btw Márta Kurtág has on ref3 a link that needs a login. Anyhow, thank you for all so far, and looking forward to your advices/comments/critics, when you get a chance.
@Gerda Arendt: Gerda Arendt Looking forward to your comments and/or edits! Gagagracija (talk) 09:03, 9 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
