November 2014[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a message letting you know that one or more of your recent edits to Coláiste Feirste has been undone by an automated computer program called ClueBot NG.

The article Titus De Voogdt has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Images instructions[edit]

I noticed that you have tried to add images to various articles. Please take a look at the following links & tips to learn how to incorporate images into Wikipedia articles.

To use a picture on Wikipedia, we need permission from whoever owns it.

  • If it is your OWN picture - then you can just upload it yourself, at "Commons", saying "It is entirely my own work" - at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Upload .
  • If it is NOT YOURS, then the owner can give permission in two ways;
A) They could put it on a website (flickr, or their own site) with an appropriate licence, such as "Public Domain" or "Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike" (that is an option in flickr)
B) They could email us permission. You could ask them to do that, by sending them an email saying something like:
"Hi, I've written a page on Wikipedia, and I'd really like to add a picture - but as Wikipedia is FREE, we can only use freely-licenced pictures. If you have any which you can give permission for, please send me an email back with the text below, and the picture(s) attached."
-Then add a copy of this: http://enwp.org/user:chzz/help/myboilerplate (having filled the form out)
-And send the email (attached picture file + completed form) to: permissions-commons@wikimedia.org

If any of your questions about how to insert images into an article aren't answered in these instructions, additional information is available at the following Wikipedia articles:
Help:Introduction to uploading images/1
Help:Files
Help:Contents/Images and media (for a master-listing of all pertinent image-use links).
Hope this helps, Shearonink (talk) 18:23, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PS: I placed this before going into your contributions in more depth. If you don't need these links, please don't be offended. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 18:26, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello GaeilgeLeBhurDToil, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Mark Dexter has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. VeryCrocker (talk) 18:54, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on How Star Wars Changed the World, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. County Derry[edit]

Please abide by WP:IMOS. Derry for the city, Londonderry for the county. Your edit has been amended back to this agreement. Mabuska (talk) 21:09, 7 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Northern Ireland[edit]

Settlements and places on Wikipedia are located within their country not the landmass that they are in, hence places in Northern Ireland are in Northern Ireland, not Ireland the island. Mabuska (talk) 21:22, 7 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Irish names[edit]

I have already directed you to IMOS once before in regards to the county issue, however I must once again direct you to it though to a different part of it: Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Ireland-related_articles#Naming_people. It is quite obvious that an Irish form of Willie Frazer is not merited by the criteria listed.

Also: It's a name of gaelic origin in a country where gaelic is the national language. - obviously this is meant to be a joke? Since when were William, Frederick and Frazer names of Gaelic origin, and when was Gaelic the national language of Northern Ireland? Mabuska (talk) 21:31, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We have already discussed this at my talk page and continuing to push it regardless of the agreed conventions on naming set out at IMOS, your edit can be interpreted as vandalism. Frazer doesn't use an Irish form of his name so we don't invent and add one for him. Mabuska (talk) 15:35, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect country[edit]

Please refrain from adding locations in Northern Ireland erroneously as Ireland. Ireland is a landmass and we always add locations to Wikipedia based on the country they are in. For instance County Londonderry is in Northern Ireland not in Ireland. We don't say Paris, Europe, or New York, North America. Additionally please use the correct name of the county for County Londonderry and not any colloquial terms per WP:DERRY. There has never been a County Derry in the history of Ireland or Northern Ireland and it is not an official name. You have been warned on both these items previously, and if you continue to make edits in this manner you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia for disruptive editing. You have been warned many times in the past to avoid referring to Northern Ireland as Ireland and to not use County Derry for County Londonderry but you still persist in this disruptive behaviour. You're adding Irish names that are unsourced and generally being disruptive with your POV pushing edits. If you continue this editing pattern you will be blocked from editing again. Because you keep adding content to Wikipedia that is unsourced you have been blocked from editing for 2 weeks. You continue to add items to article that appear to simple be English language phrases run through a translator. This does not mean these are the names in another language. For a name to be that in another language and it be relevant to Wikipedia it must be used in an official capacity, must be used, and must be referenced. Everything you are adding appears to be purely original research self translation. Since you've been warned multiple times about adding such OR and hoax material to Wikipedia you've been blocked. If your editing continues in this same pattern when you return you will be blocked indefinitely as it seems you are not here to genuinely contribute to improving the encyclopaedia and abide by Wikipedia's policies. That's effectively the same as a self translation. You've just translated it, albeit via an automated tool. That is not evidence that that is actually what it is called in the native language, or even if it's called anything in the native language. And clearly it's not used. Anyone can stick something into a translation program and say that is a translation, however it's "a translation" not "the translation" which only the entity in question could provide. However since they don't then they don't have one and your translation is actually then a hoax. Canterbury Tail talk 22:24, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Saor Dhoire / Doire Saor[edit]

Dia duit. With regard to this edit, I'm not fluent in Irish, but I know the word saor does precede the noun sometimes (in Saor Éire for instance). I'd just like to be sure we've got it right. Scolaire (talk) 15:03, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I've done a quick Google search and I've come up with this 2011 news item, this pic on the Sinn Féin Flickr page (see caption under the photo), this 1983 photo of the wall (there is a séimhiú on the "D"), and this 1973 article in the journal Comhar. I'd say the sources using the "Dh" are the more trusworthy ones. I havent found similar sources for the reverse wording. Scolaire (talk) 15:20, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Norrie MacIver moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Norrie MacIver, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Norrie MacIver, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:31, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Irish and other names[edit]

Hi there. You have been warned and told not to enter Irish names in articles that aren't used and are purely your own translation on many occasions. However you continue to put your original research into Wikipedia against these instructions such as with these edits.

As you've been informed on multiple ocassions you cannot just translate someone or something's name into Irish and call it their Irish name. The Irish name needs to be officially sourced that it is indeed their name, and proven with references that it is in fact used. The edit linked above has none of this sourcing and a search proves it is not used. Since it seems that this is almost the entirely of your editing to Wikipedia, despite the many warnings and indeed blocks for this, you persist on promoting names you've translated yourself. You've even been "correcting" other translations taht you think are incorrect despite the fact that that is what those organisations call themselves, such as with this edit.

Since you have continually persisted in pushing your own original research in this topic area, and you refuse outright to listen to the warnings given to you on multiple ocassions, it is clear that you are not interested in participating in Wikipedia editing in a collaborative manner and are never going to follow our policies. As a result you've left me with no choice but to block you from editing indefinitely. This has been going on for years and you still refuse to abide by the policies. Your draft article, Draft:Norrie MacIver[edit]

Hello, GaeilgeLeBhurDToil. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Norrie MacIver".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! Lapablo (talk) 12:13, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
