You're doing some nice work. Can I suggest you use a more formal wiki style for your references? Wiki style citations[edit]

Thanks for your response. This is a really long explanation so feel free to delete it when you're done.

A few weeks ago I wrote an article about Clarksville, Mississippi. If you look at it you'll see how I added sources.

I basically only use two types.

For stuff found on the web, it looks like this...

<ref>{{cite web | last = | first = | title = | publisher = | date = | url = | accessdate = }}</ref>

(NOTE: When you go to edit this talk page, you'll see I added "nowikis" in a lot of places. Disregard them. I had to add them to this edit to prevent my coding from activating)

If there are multiple authors, it looks like this... | last1 = | first1 = | last2 = | first2 =

Also, you only have to put ONE DATE. If you have a publication date, delete the access date, or vice versa, but don't add both.

For a book...

<ref>{{cite book | last = | first = | title = | publisher = | year = | url = | pages = }}</ref>

In the "pages" section, it's good to add all the pages in the book you used. And if you need to quote a particular page, add your reference after the quote, and then "{{rp|23}}" (which will show that your quote came from page number 23, or whatever page). You can see it used in this article... Bruinsburg, Mississippi.

Finally, the nice part about using these citations is you can use them over and over within the article.

In the Clarksville article, I added this reference in the article...

<ref name="Jones">{{cite web | last1 = Jones | first1 = Dennis | last2 = Mossa | first2 = Joann | last3 = Smith | first3 = F. Todd | title = Cultural Resources Survey of Fort Adams Reach Revetment, Mile 312.2 to 306.0-L, Mississippi River, Wilkinson County, Mississippi | publisher = U.S. Army Corps of Engineers | date = August 1993 | url = http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a271114.pdf}}</ref>

See how I added "<ref name="Jones">" to the first instance of this citation? After that, every time I need to add a citation for the Jones book, all I have to add is...

"<ref name="Jones"/>"

...then in the reference section, letters are added for each mention of "<ref name="Jones"/>".

Status and Advice[edit]

As reviewing administrator, I did not delete the article. This is an historic firm, and presumably notable. However, you need to expand the article to make it viable. Minimal articles on even notable companies often are deleted here, and it is therefore necessary to make a fairly full article, not limited to directory sources. I added an {{underconstruction}} tag, which should give you at least a few days. Durant-Dort[edit]

Thanks for your note. Please would you add this new information to the article with the appropriate citation. Would there be more factual information like this in the same repository? So much about Durant-Dort is available online and it is not always written with proper regard for the historical facts and those facts are what's needed. In the meantime I will amend the Durant Dort article lead (so you know I'm giving your info due regard) but I think it is supposed to be backed up by a properly referenced note in the body of the article. OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion[edit]

Hi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted my fix to McLaughlin Motor Car Company.

If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref> and one or more <ref name="foo"/> referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref> but left the <ref name="foo"/>, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/> with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.

If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me!
