Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Fylindfotberserk! Though our editing hasn't overlapped much this year I see that you have been doing lots of important and difficult work maintaining the quality of India-related articles. Thank-you for that, and best wishes for the year to come: hopefully it will be a bit more normal than 2020 has been! Wham2001 (talk) 09:06, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

Happy New Year and my apologies

Hi Fylindfotberserk, I meant to send you a message using RW but accidentally ended up blanking the page after I pressed refresh button. Apologies for the inconvenience, this is probably the third time this happened. You have thanked me so many times now that I wanted to drop by and say hello. Have a very Happy New Year. Again, sorry for the mess. :) --Ashleyyoursmile! 07:34, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

@Ashleyyoursmile: Yeah I was able to understand that was some software related issue. Is RedWarn prone to this type of things. Yesterday someone suggested me to use it. Oh.. and Happy New Year . - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:38, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Fylindfotberserk, RW is extremely user-friendly and quite fast while reverting vandalism on Wikipedia, so I find it very useful while patrolling recent changes. But I don't know why this particular problem keeps on recurring when I try to message someone using the tool. Happened three times already now, so I'm going to seek help at the RW community. It's nice meeting you. :) --Ashleyyoursmile! 07:44, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
@Ashleyyoursmile: I'll give RW a shot. Thanks. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:49, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Please dont skimp on warnings. May be use WP:RW to makes it easier. --Walrus Ji (talk) 13:46, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

I don't get your message. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:34, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
This user was not warned when you reverted him on Udit Raj. Aren't you supposed to be warning him after reverting. All his edits are vandalism and he had received no warning before today. He was literally having a free run so far. --Walrus Ji (talk) 15:13, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
You did the honors, good for you. I don't go around templating new users making casual edits in few different articles, since they have no longevity here. If they had done the same thing again, I'd have slapped them with a level 2 or 3 warning depending on the issue. Considering how many use-and-throw users are made daily, I prefer not to template them. Also go through WP:BITE. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:34, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
He made 10-12 edits. All of them, egregious violations of the Biography of living persons policy of Wikipedia. I think he is worthy of a block right now, if only he was appropriately warned. But you are saying templating was not necessary. That is shocking. I am curious, at what point do you normally cross a line and warn such vandals? I have read WP:VANDAL it says, warn them on the first instance. Also does WP:BITE applies to VANDALS? I don't think so. --Walrus Ji (talk) 15:49, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Walrus Ji, Wikipedia is a voluntary project and I am not answerable to anyone for not templating a user. I've 8014 articles in my watchlist as of now and I check hundreds of article each day. I'm not going to template all the IPs and users disrupting that many articles. I already told you the "threshold". See this, just now I issued a level 3 vand warning after they did it for the second time. This on the other hand doesn't look like a blatant vandalism. An admin might find it to be a case of mere fan-POV, unsourced obviously, although it looks malicious. And they didn't repeat it either (as of now). If you are really interested in getting them banned, you can try it. A level 4 warning isn't necessary, I got many vandals indeffed without even issuing a single warning. I don't know why we are even having this discussion Facepalm Facepalm. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:30, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

Fylindfotberserk, I am not here to accuse you of something. Relax. If that is the impression you got then accept my apology as it was not my intention. I am discussing this to clear my curiosity about this user. He was reverted by many editors including you, yet no one warned. So I started the thread assuming that I am missing something that others know and I don't. I have watchlisted his talk page. Will report at the next instance of his vandalism. It is clearly politically motivated vandalism.

Also reply link is not working on this page. Removing the greeting templates solves the problem. It worked on my page after I removed. Walrus Ji (talk) 16:59, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

Regarding misleading information by a person name Rohit Saw in Hindi Wikipedia

Dear Ramprasad Bismil was a Hindu ( Brahmin ) . But in Hindi Wikipedia it is written as Hindu ( Rajput ) . I attempted many times to correct it but the person named Rohit Saw who roll back it. Kindly look into matter. Because if this consistently happens then Wikipedia is going to be hub of fake information . I am attaching reference (https://m.thewire.in/article/history/ramprasad-bismil-ideology) Divyanshu4226 (talk) 07:55, 10 January 2021 (UTC)

@Divyanshu4226: Use this code → <ref>{{cite news |title=Ramprasad Bismil's Idea of Revolution Is Impervious to Saffronisation |url=https://m.thewire.in/article/history/ramprasad-bismil-ideology |access-date=10 January 2021 |work=thewire.in |language=en}}</ref> near the phrase "ब्राह्मण परिवार" as a ref. Also remove caste from infobox. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:18, 10 January 2021 (UTC)

Why are you promoting Tony Kakkar?

"His breakthrough came with the film Creature 3D for which he composed the song "Sawan Aaya Hai". This is clearly promotion of the artist. Show me one Wikipedia artist page that has such introductory. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akshaypatill (talkcontribs) 18:25, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

@Akshaypatill: There is no promotion when writing about their major achievements, debut or breakthrough. See Kareena Kapoor, an FA status article. Besides it was like that before you decided to remove it unanimously without discussion. I noticed that you removed it [1]. Revert your changes or I'll report you for edit warring. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:31, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

I have reverted the changes for now. I agree with your opinion about Breakthrough but that breakthrough is already discussed below. You should check the Kareena Kapoor page and the introductory. That's how introductory should be on an encylopedia.

@Akshaypatill: Nice. The lead of an article typically summarizes whatever the article body discusses. There is not much available in the body itself, so a little bit on the breakthough becomes necessary. Check the Karina Kapoor article. The lead has this → "After making her acting debut in the 2000 war film Refugee,.... Consider a similar situation with the Tony Kakkar article. You can expand the body, but I do not think there is enough reliable material available in the internet, apart from songs which can get referenced in the tables/discography. Also discussions should be in the article talk page, not mine. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:51, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
@Fylindfotberserk: That lead you mentioned feels quite nuetral than the breakthrough. And sorry for removing the remixes, I thougth they were unofficial remixes. Sorry for the negligence.
That's OK. The word breakthrough is quite neutral, but if you think it is "jargon-ish" for some reason, you can replace it with "debut" in the sentence. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:18, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

January 2021

I didn't get what you said about disruptive writing. Kashmir is a region which has Kashmir Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan, Ladakh. There is no Greater Kashmir, Greater Kashmir would entail beyond the region of Ladakh, Kashmir Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan. There is no record anywhere in the govt archives which can relate the concept of Greater Kashmir

@Amaan Imtiyaz: Because you removed sourced content alongwith the source here, without discussion. Also you marked your edit as minor, which it wasn't. Articles related to Kashmir are particualrly patrolled and changes/removal require consensus at talk page. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:23, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
Also note that the Kashmir article includes all the regions you have removed. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:27, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

@Fylindfotberserk: Jammu is not in Kashmir region, it spoke about and I quote "real kashmir", what is real Kashmir?. it was not followed with any genuine source. Is there a fake Kashmir that we have todiscuss here real Kashmir. Kashmir is a region consisting of Kashmir Valley, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Ladakh, however, Jammu is not in the Kashmir Region. Jammu and Kashmir, the erstwhile state together consisted of Kashmir Valley, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Ladakh, and Jammu. If we have to mention "Greater Kashmir" we will take the borders of Kashmir Region into Afghanistan from the North-west Gilgit, into China's Xinjiang Region from Ladakh and from south to Jammu

@Amaan Imtiyaz: This is the sentence in the Kashmir article → "the term (Kashmir) encompasses a larger area that includes the Indian-administered territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, the Pakistani-administered territories of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and Chinese-administered territories of Aksai Chin and the Trans-Karakoram Tract. As you can see Jammu and Azad Kashmir is mentioned. The are two definitions of the term Kashmir in the source (page 8) used in the Kashmiris article, the Kashmir Valley and the greater region of including the Jammu, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashir. In the article we are referring to the "bigger" definition. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:19, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

@Fylindfotberserk: Doesn't it give mostly the impression that "Greater Kashmir" with capital "G" is a region which is added to Kashmir when all the regions were already there

As per the source, the other definition of Kashmir is only to refer to the valley area, which makes the all encompassing definition the greater Kashmir, the regions of which are sourced and mentioned in the article. The article is specific on the valley part since Kashmir Valley is already an article in Wikipedia. If you want, you can discuss in the talk page on removal of the term "greater" from the sentence. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:54, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

@Fylindfotberserk: Source speaks about the language and does not give the proper understanding of the Kashmir. Which talk page

@Amaan Imtiyaz: Talk:Kashmiris. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 05:54, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

bigil movie article range

if its more than 300 crore than the range is wrong Dominicoz (talk) 15:09, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

feb 7 2020, https://www.news18.com/news/movies/tamil-star-vijay-reportedly-earned-rs-30-crore-for-bigil-reveal-it-raids-2491609.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dominicoz (talkcontribs) 15:11, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

what if 300 is the lowest value and if its more than that? then the range becomes not applicable. Dominicoz (talk) 15:52, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

Discuss in the talk page. We follow guidelines laid by ICTF and sources. WE do not go by "what if". If you can provide a source that says for example 325 crores, then the new range becomes 285-325 crore. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:01, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

My point was if its more than 300 crore according to News 18 published on feb 2020 and you have mentioned 285-300 crore which means 300 is the final amount and it opposes the News 18 stats more than 300 crore gross which is also a trustworthy reference. I don't find it as a right mention?? I think in that first post reference its mentioned as 285+ crore. + signifies additional gross so the firstpost reference can be clearly excluded here.Dominicoz (talk) 16:03, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

Indian wrestling

I see professional wrestling as one of your personal interests, however, I don't see any contribution from you on Pehlwani/ Kusti. My interest in the topic is mainly to add information on rural culture / indigenous sports of India. Although majority of Indians live in rural or semi-rural areas, very few articles go in detail on the cultures of various rural parts of the country. I hope you can partly rectify that by adding content on Indian wrestling and related sports such as kabbadi.Thanks.Jonathansammy (talk) 22:55, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

The international airport saga

Hey, quite a few of us have come across the "international airport" saga, I came up with this as a draft of some guidelines we could possibly use. I was hoping you could have a look at it. I did mention this to LeoFrank (you might've seen this on his talk page). Feel free to make changes on the page itself and any feedback is appreciated. Thanks! Bingobro (Chat) 14:46, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

@Bingobro: Thanks for the notification. Yes we can have a guideline like this, especially since we have come across users and IPs POVPUSHING "international" in their preferred airport articles. I'll try updating it in time. Nice initiative there. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:53, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

MOS Order

Hi, The instances where your edits with MOS ORDER edit summary were seemingly reverted by me was not intentional. Please feel free to undo it without informing me. I am not sure why AWB keeps doing it as part of its automatic edits. May be I should drop a note to WP:AWB devs to follow MOS ORDER in their Script. It is strange that AWB is doing something opposite to what consensus in MOS ORDER claims. In addition, I will take care to skip the edits where the MOS ORDER is violated. Walrus Ji (talk) 22:00, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

@Walrus Ji: I wonder why it wasn't fixed till now. I've reported that to AWB maintenance guys some 2 years ago. Many users that contacted me about this MOS:ORDER situation over the years also filed a complaint at WP:AWB. Nothing happened. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:07, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Fylindfotberserk, May be remind the AWB guys, of your earlier post. They just need to disable this module where the script is doing additional work that is against MOS ORDER. (also fyi Taukeerppw who posted on my talk page. ) Walrus Ji (talk) 07:13, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Sahota edit

In your edit you said:

Rv WP:COPYVIO from Jatland

That source states:

Content is available under GNU Free Documentation License unless otherwise noted.

I believe that license is compatible with Wikipedia. That doesn't mean your reversion was incorrect, the material was sourced. While the underlying source contains references I don't think the relevant sections were referenced and there may be a question whether those constitute reliable sources.--S Philbrick(Talk) 14:02, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

@Sphilbrick: The content added here is a blatant copypaste of the "History" section of this article. This is definitely some kind of violation if not as per "GNU Free Documentation License". I'd like to get enlightened on this. As far as the source is considered, Jatland has been deprecated as a reliable sourc, not to mention it is a Wiki like WP:UGC. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:45, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Fylindfotberserk, I'm not surprised that it has been deprecated as a reliable source, I would have been stunned if it were otherwise, primarily because it is a wiki.
There's no question that it was plagiarism, but it's not a copyright violation unless the material copied is licensed in a way that it should not be copied. While I didn't read through the fine print of the license (I'm more familiar with the creative commons licenses), I believe it is compatible with Wikipedia. This means it is okay to use the text without violating copyright, but that doesn't mean it can be used without attribution or without referencing. For that reason, I support the removal of the material, but we typically do an RD1 when it is an actual violation of copyright policy and that doesn't appear to be the case. S Philbrick(Talk) 15:23, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Let me add my congratulations for 100,000 Edits — that's a major milestone! S Philbrick(Talk) 15:24, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

@Walrus Ji: Well, both were merged so in census we have this. But Kurukshetra as a separate entity exists. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:27, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Fylindfotberserk, Thank you. looking at the google map, the eastern half of the city is marked as Kurukshetra [2], while the western side is marked as Thanesar see [3]. I believe the article on Kurukshetra should appropriately distinguish this on the top as well as on Kurukshetra_(disambiguation). Similar clarification might be needed on Thanesar. What is your opinion on what to do with the Wiki articles?
And do you know what name is used for the Kurukshetra district headquarter? Walrus Ji (talk) 10:47, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
This map by gov, marks Kurukshetra as the district HQ. https://kurukshetra.gov.in/map-of-district/ Walrus Ji (talk) 11:10, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

You are invited to join the discussion at Talk:List of airports in India. If you have the time it would be helpful if you could leave your thoughts on this. Warning after revert

Hey there. Thanks for your edit here. But I noticed you seem to miss out on warning users. Please ensure you warn users on their edits going forward. Cheers!  LeoFrank  Talk 15:36, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

@LeoFrank: I do not typically warn users the first time I come across unconstructive edits. Since I believe they wouldn't last long here. But if they continue to vandalize, edit war or spam, a level 3 or 4 is issued. Initially I used to warn a lot though . - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:50, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Fylindfotberserk, LeoFrank, where does the community consensus stand on this? Both of you have very different opinion on warning. I think they are helpful. what is the harm? Walrus Ji (talk) 11:58, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Deep Sidhu

You are right. Thanks for cleaning up after me. Can you share the tool using which you made this edit. The edit summary appears to be automated. --Walrus Ji (talk) 11:32, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

@Walrus Ji: No lol, I wrote it myself. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:35, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
😲 I am shocked. I thought it was AWB, but it had no AWB tag so I was confused. Walrus Ji (talk) 11:41, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
@Walrus Ji: . I also made a typo error. Wrote "citatin fixes" instead of "citation fixes". - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:43, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
Yeah. Didn't notice it before. Looks like my brain fixed it in my mind before I could notice the error. Walrus Ji (talk) 11:46, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
@Walrus Ji: Typoglycemia, that is. On a serious note, I saw a program many years back in Discovery that discussed this topic. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:52, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
😂 that is an old Meme that seems to be immortalized with a wiki article. I did not know, there was a term for it. Good share. Walrus Ji (talk) 11:55, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

@Walrus Ji: Thanks. ← Remember this meme. It is as old as the "Internets". - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:59, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

No, but it is vaguely similar to the Yahoo chats. Walrus Ji (talk) 12:01, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
This. I used to trawl 4chan then. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:18, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
ok. I never visited 4chan. I have heard many negative things about it though. Walrus Ji (talk) 11:15, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
@Walrus Ji: Yeah, full of trolls of all-kinds. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:18, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
😅 Is that a self incrimination? Walrus Ji (talk) 11:20, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
Well I was "learning to interweebs". When you venture into "everything", you can judge what's good for you and what's not. Abstaining is not a great idea. E.g, my roomie in first year was a "good boy" fresh out of his home, never touched cig or drank. Within months he turned an alcoholic and a chain smoker. We thought he's FUBAR. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:30, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
Yeah but trying out addictive and known to cause harm things is not going to do any good. Every man for himself. It is their life after all. Walrus Ji (talk) 11:51, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
I agree, but alcohol (only) in small amounts once in a while is not bad IMO. There is a reason why we have the phrase dawa-daaru. Obviously I'm not promoting these things. I live a life of abstinence and do not touch these things. My only addiction is Wikipedia and front-squatting. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:07, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
