Articles from Boase

Regarding the articles you are adding from Boase, thank you for taking the trouble. Could you also format them in accordance with the Wikipedia Guidelines on How to Edit an Article and Wikipedia:Guide to Layout? This makes them a great deal more useful and accessible. Thanks. I'm not familiar with the formatting and categories here, but I will try my best - afterwards. For now I have to add hundreds of Boases articles (by the way, he died in 1897, they are all in the public domain now) and my time to do this is very limited. So I have to do this first. Where are you getting the text from / why are you concentrating on G. C. Boase? The best source I've found for DNB is the Internet Archive ... but you'd have to thread through all 65 or so volumes to get your Boases. --Tagishsimon (talk) 09:22, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

http://www.oxforddnb.com/ - They've got the "old" DNB articles, which are in the public domain, in their archive. I am concentrating on GC Boase because his articles are not outdated. The new ODNB itself recycles them with very little correction. --Frendraught 09:28, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Gosh. I've been scraping badly OCRd text. But help me out: I cannot fathom the ODNB user interface sufficiently to find the DNB entries. If you would, take Renton Nicholson, for instance. Open the person's entry you are looking for and you will find a link "DNB Archive" on the left side of your screen, in the yellow navigation area. A click will open a new smaller window. (javascript required). Voila. --Frendraught 09:42, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Doh. As you wrote, I spotted it. Well, I take my hat off to you, a) for adding so much from DNB b) for showing me a better way than scraping Internet Archive and c) for doing all of this despite having died in 1650. Thanks for uploading Image:Oliver,_Martha_Cranmer_(1834-1880),_by_Herbert_Watkins,_late_1850s.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.
