Other Singles

Hey since both "Live to Tell" and La Isla Bonita" have been nominated for GA, lets proceed with the other two singles from True Blue album: Open your Heart and the title track. Lets start work on those. I will be taking up Open your Heart, you take up the other one. By the way, since you are done with Papa Don't Preach, i think its time to nominate it for FA. What do you say? --Legolas (talktome) 04:45, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

I don't know, like I said to you before I am not a big Madonna fan, "True Blue" is not really one of my favorites. Actually I started doing "Papa Don't Preach" because I couldn't find much info about my favorites songs: "Crazy for You", "Borderline" and "Who's That Girl". And now that my classes started I don't think I will have much time now, also I postponed other songs that I want to develop to do the Madonna's articles. And for the "Papa Don't Preach" article I will wait till the peer review is archived to nominate it. Frcm1988 (talk) 05:06, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Hey, you said you will not work on "True Blue"?? I thought of working on it after "Open Your Heart". :( --Legolas (talktome) 03:14, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Not at all. The more help I get for Madonna songs, more the better. And congrats for Live to Tell. I told you it will pass. I'm keeping fingers crossed for "La Isla Bonita". In the meantime I'll help you with the song and writing part for "True Blue". Is that fine? --Legolas (talktome) 03:27, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Ohh I have info for the background of the song. I'll add it. The La Isla Bonita music video section, I removed the producers etc. names, anyways I don't have ref for the producer etc. Thanks for your comments. --Legolas (talktome) 03:53, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Ya me too. Its not that necessary. Thanks for your help. --Legolas (talktome) 04:20, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

(Outdent)Hey you can use Rikky Rooksby's book The Complete Guide to the Music of Madonna. It has everything regarding the background and composition. go to pg 25. Are you able to view them or not, like you said before? If so, tell me, I'll add it. --Legolas (talktome) 05:04, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

You can include about the homage to early sixties girl group pop. In the meantime I'll find out more. I think there was some info regarding the use of teh word dear in the song. --Legolas (talktome) 05:11, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Live to Tell - passed

Congratulations, "Live to Tell" has passed its GA review! View the talkpage for details. Thanks and have a great day! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 06:16, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

No problem. It's great to see people FINALLY working on famous 80's singles, songs, music, and albums. We need more people like you, Legolas, and Realist2 on Wikipedia. Keep up the fantastic work! CarpetCrawler (talk) 18:59, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Heart of Glass

Would you by any chance know of the user that is going to work on the Blondie song, "Heart of Glass"? I would love to contact them. :) And maybe we both could work on another Blondie song? I love Blondie, as well. Maybe we could work on "One Way or Another" or "Rapture"! CarpetCrawler (talk) 18:55, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Ooh, I love "Call Me" as well! Either way, would you want to work on a music article together sometime in the near future? I'd certainly love to work with you! We could do a Blondie article, or maybe even do some work on the "Sussudio" or "Take Me Home (Phil Collins song)" article. I'd certainly be honored. :) Maybe sometime after I do a FAR for the No Jacket Required article? CarpetCrawler (talk) 18:20, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

True Blue

Hey just ping me once you are done with your edits. I'll start adding info for the music video. Cheers for the good work. --Legolas (talktome) 05:49, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Ya I'll keep in mind. Thanks. --Legolas (talktome) 05:11, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
PS. I edited the section so that it doesnot appear as a direct uplifting from the book. --Legolas (talktome) 05:30, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey Frcm. I will definitely look into it and make the necessary changes --Legolas (talktome) 06:25, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Barnstar

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For your incredible work on articles relating to popular singles from the 80's, I award you this barnstar. Keep up the unbelieveable work! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 04:16, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
No, thank YOU for helping me out and adding those references! I will just remove the New Zealand one, since it's not truly all that notable. You do not even realize how much that helped me out. Anyway, if you have anything else to add to that article, info or anything, feel free to add it. I need all the help I can get. :) Thank you so much! CarpetCrawler (talk) 21:46, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Also, I was doing the research, and the single was indeed NOT certified gold. Only "Time After Time", "She Bop", and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" have been certified gold. I removed the piece of the chart. CarpetCrawler (talk) 01:41, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Just leaving you one last note for now, to wish you good luck at Papa Don't Preach's FAR. :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 07:40, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
What annoys me is that the user didn't even bother telling you exactly WHAT image they were opposing the article about. In fact, the user's oppose is basically linking to a bunch of Wikipages, and not even fully explaining their oppose. I don't like opposes like those, honestly... CarpetCrawler (talk) 03:43, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Thank you once again for your invalueable edits. :) I will certainly find a way to thank you and Legolas once the article is finished up! :) I appreciate anything you can contribute to the article. Legolas said that he has a lot of information to add, so I am waiting to see what he does. Have a great day, and thank you SO much for your edits! :) "All Through the Night" is one of my all time favorite songs, and I'm so happy to see so many people helping me turn it into a beautiful article. CarpetCrawler (talk) 05:41, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I thought Cyndi badly deserved to have even ONE article to be in respectable shape. And I LOVE both of those songs! :) "True Colors" would be fun to work on, and "I Drove All Night" could probably be easy to do. One I wanted to do was "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", but I'll save that for when I have A LOT of free time over the summer, because that's going to be a tough one to do... "Change of Heart" is another one of my favorites, but finding any good info on that would be very slim! "She Bop" could probably be real easy. I know Cyndi has done a ton of interviews about the meaning of that one! ;) And RE: working together on Cyndi articles... that sounds like fun! It's great to see certain people working in certain areas and artists (Example: Realist and Pyrrhus16 with Michael Jackson articles, you and Legolas on Madonna articles, and me with Phil Collins and Huey Lewis and the News articles (Though I may soon have someone assisting me with Huey :),) and working with you would be my pleasure. :) I sent Indoplug a message about "Heart of Glass" and never got a response. :( Oh well! Have a good one! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 06:17, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

(Outdent) Sometimes I wish cover versions could have their own articles. Especially with "I Drove All Night", because Celine Dion's version has to be the worst cover I've ever heard in my entire life. Then again, I can't stand Celine Dion, so maybe that doesn't help! And agreed, signature songs are the hardest to work on, which is unfortunate. However, it is usually very easy to find info for them, so that's good. :) And agreed, I wish people would do more work on 80's songs, as WELL as 70's songs and older! It feels like these songs never get coverage... Which is why I am glad people are doing work on them now. :) Agreed, there are articles that I'd love to do but can't find info for. It sucks, but sometimes there's not much you can do. Have a good one! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 17:42, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

"Papa Don't Preach"

I don't have much free time these days, but I'll try to help you as much as I can. I recall looking at the article and being impressed with it so far. In the meanwhile, some FA song article models to follow are "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Hey Ya!", "Under the Bridge", and "Paranoid Android" WesleyDodds (talk) 05:34, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

"Papa Don't Preach" FAR

Hey, I've noticed that you're having a rough time in PDP's FAR. I just want to send you a little note saying that don't worry if it doesn't pass, just listen to Tony's advice and that article will certainly pass! :) Have a good one. CarpetCrawler (talk) 07:57, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

I am indeed from the United States, and this week is a holiday for some people here. Most of us celebrate Easter Saturday and Sunday though. :) I'll add the article to my watchlist, and keep a close eye on it. Sorry for the late response, I'm having a bit of a crummy day. Have a day the opposite of mine so far! ;) CarpetCrawler (talk) 11:01, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

True Blue album

Hey Frcm, I am developing "True Blue" the album now at my sandbox. But I'm badly stuck at the chart performance and searching of the certifications. Could you please help me out on this? I'll be really greatful for it. --Legolas (talk2me) 08:51, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Re: Sources

Hi there! I have Maury Dean's book, if that helps. Also, I know Maury Dean, since he was my professor last semester, and a good friend of mine, and I know he has all of Bronson's books, they're in his faculty office. I'm sure he could let me borrow one for research purposes. :) And send me a message if you do a Blondie article! And if it's Culture Club, I'd love to help for "Karma Chameleon" or "I'll Tumble 4 Ya" as both are big favorites of mine. :) P.S. check out "Captain Jack (song)"! It passed the GA review! :) I'm so glad my hard work paid off! CarpetCrawlermessage me 05:47, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

ARGH! I just realized that I just watched the Pop-up video of "Karma Chameleon" a few weeks ago! :( I wish I would have taped it, because the pop-ups were more about the song itself than the video, and even talked about how the band wasn't even on speaking terms after the video was made. Next time I catch pop-up video I'll keep an eye out. :) CarpetCrawlermessage me 06:37, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Don't worry, I get VH1 Classic, and they episodes of the show every day. :) They're bound to rerun the episode. I know the video appeared in two episodes, so it's more chances. :) CarpetCrawlermessage me 06:57, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Date delinking

There is currently an injunction in place by the Arbitration Committee asking users to not delink dates, as I noticed you recently did on Crazy for You (song). I'm not reverting the change, but I'm just letting you know. —Ian Weller (talk) 05:52, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Barnstar

The Copyeditor's Barnstar
For helping me out by copyediting the article No Jacket Required. Thank you so much! :) CarpetCrawlermessage me 23:54, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
No problem, thank you very much for the copyediting. :) Also, are you done working in my sandbox with "All Through the Night"? If so, I will add our changes to the actual article, and then nominate it for GA. :) CarpetCrawlermessage me 10:11, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, I improved the lead a little, and nominated it for GAN. I added your name and Legolas' name along with mine, since you both did as much important editing as I did. :) Let's hope for the best! CarpetCrawlermessage me 07:57, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

RE: GA Nomination

Don't even think of it like that! Trust me, without your help I never would have found any of those references for the chart data, or the reference for the certification. :) And I stink at copyediting. You did as much hard work as I did, and you deserve to have your name attached as much as I do! :) Have a great day. CarpetCrawlermessage me 05:16, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Did they have the piece at the end where it mentions after filming the video the band refused to talk to each other? That'd surely be an interesting piece to add. :) And I forgot, you can view the videos on VH1 Classic's website, right? CarpetCrawlermessage me 05:33, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Ouch, that sucks. :( Well, are you able to watch any on Youtube? I know that some are available on there if you look hard enough. CarpetCrawlermessage me 05:52, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
You know what REALLY pisses me off about them removing the videos? If they're going to remove them, then they should POST THE VIDEOS THEMSELVES! I mean, shit man, what's the point of removing the video, if you're not going to take advantage and post the video yourself? I think these companies do this more to wave their dick around, because I highly doubt these companies are losing billions of dollars because some guy from Portland, Oregon is posting the music video to "La Isla Bonita". If they're going to bitch and moan so much, they should post the damn video so we can at least SEE IT! Rant over. Sorry for making you read that. :) CarpetCrawlermessage me 06:06, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, I'll take a look and copy down any interesting information! :) Any other articles that you'd like to work on in the future, that may have a pop-up video? CarpetCrawlermessage me 06:21, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Poker Face PR

Thanks for your inputs there. I cleaned up the article a lot. --Legolas (talk2me) 06:49, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

PS. I added your name to the True Blue GAN. You deserve it as much as I do. --Legolas (talk2me) 06:56, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Open Your Heart

I tried to give some feedback, but it must not have went through. I'm new to this, so bear with me. :) Anyway, I felt the Madonna article was very well sourced, I just had a minor problem with the overview section. BillyJack193 (talk) 19:30, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

This has become a wee bit chaotic! First the above user reviews the article, then this discussion occurs, and now Legolas has reverted everything. I wonder what is supposed to happen in a situation like this? Me confuzzled. :-/ CarpetCrawlermessage me 05:11, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
I saw your response at Carpet's page. Well I reverted that passing to the initial GAN. I saw that the user is so inexperienced that he didnot even remove the nominated name from WP:GAN. I'll be waiting for an experienced editor. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:45, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Of course. And you have already guided him to WP:GAC so I'm pretty sure he/she will be accustomed to the policies and rules here. Other thoughts, what have you been upto? Its been long since I heard from you. What are you working on? Anything I can help? I'm concentrating on True Blue (album) and "Poker Face". Both are almost ready for GA. --Legolas (talk2me) 06:02, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, someone should explain the policy to that user. Just not me because I'm not very good at explaining things. :-/ CarpetCrawlermessage me 06:05, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Sure dude. --Legolas (talk2me) 06:15, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Re:New Projects

Tell me for which song you want info and I'll see if I can find anything. I'm good at finding info from books. About the Madonna articles, even I'm waiting to complete the "True Blue (album)" and after this True Blue era ends I might move on to her first album, the most neglected and forgotten one. By the way I'm sorry for Papa don't preach failing at FAC :( It really deserved the bronze star. --Legolas (talk2me) 06:22, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Well as said before me and Carpet are gonna collaborate for LS and Holiday so you are free to go with Borderline although I'll put down as much info as possible. If you want to start "Karma Chameleon" just lemme know. I have got info from books. --Legolas (talk2me) 08:23, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey there! Long time no chat. ;) Just wanted to drop you a note saying thanks for adding those references to the Billboard Hot 100 pages... some will be useful for Phil Collins and Huey Lewis and the News pages! :) Also, I decided to nominate "I Go to Extremes" to GA status, for the hell of it. I figured that since I expanded it, why not try? So anyway, if you know of anything to contribute, like chartdata or info or references, feel free to add it into the article when you have time. :) Have a good day! CarpetCrawlermessage me 06:07, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Double oy. :( Next semester I'm changing my major to psychology, so this semester I have a hodgepodge of stuff. Modern World History, Creative Writing, Literature, and Philosophy. Some incredibly boring stuff. :( Next semester I'm taking Biology, Psychology, Intro to Linux, and The History of Rock N' Roll. Probably another course too. :) I need to register soon though! :( CarpetCrawlermessage me 05:48, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Absolutely. This is just the start. As said before I'm just waiting for my "True Blue" album project to complete. After it goes for GA, I'll start collaborating with you and Carpet on Borderline, Lucky Star and Holiday. I would have awarded you another barnstar, but I don't know how. :( --Legolas (talk2me) 06:14, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you so much, and I'm very happy to have worked with both you and Legolas. :) When I get the No Jacket Required Featured Article nomination/review, I will take a short wikibreak and I'd be happy to work with you on something else. :) Have a good one! Take On Me: drums

Do you have a copy of the single to hand? If not I can look mine out, but it's still packed away somewhere after a house move so it might take a while to find! I know the drummer is credited on the album (Hunting High And Low). I've seen a-ha perform Take On Me live c.1991, 2001 and 2005 and also seen various live performances on TV, YouTube etc. Trust me, it's a real acoustic drumkit, every time (even with their most stripped-down instrumental arrangement: drums, a single semi-acoustic guitar and everything else done with the synthesisers). I don't think recreating those authentic drum sounds digitally would even have been possible in 1984-'85.

The earliest live version I can find on YouTube is from 1989 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OHPKHSS7zc and as you can see e.g. at about the 3:10 mark, acoustic drums are used. The drummer at that concert, Mathen Letley, is credited at the end of the video (Bateria = Drums). Is this sufficient to reinstate the information in the article, or do you want me to find a reference specifically for the studio recording? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Contains Mild Peril (talkcontribs) 17:38, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Rhapsody.com has the following on a-ha's single Take On Me:

"It's hard to say which had more of an impact, the single "Take On Me" or its accompanying video. Either way, a-ha's spot in the pantheon of 1980s bubblegum Synth Pop is guaranteed. Composed of an electronic bass-pulse, a clattering drum sound and singer Morten Harket's near-yodel falsetto, the Norwegian trio's sound has 1985 written all over it. Subsequent forays into smooth, adult-oriented love-pop proved unsuccessful in the U.S. and they sank into obscurity. Nevertheless, the band is featured on virtually any collection that has the words "'80s" and "Hits" in the title, and their ebullient, strangely European pop will forever remain just under the surface of the public consciousness.

- Mike McGuirk" http://www.rhapsody.com/a-ha Contains Mild Peril (talk) 18:49, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

A-ha diary September 1985: 4 In the morning, the TV show "Solid Gold" is recorded at the Universal Studios. Dionne Warwick hosts the show and a-ha perform "Take On Me" with Gina from the Go-Go's on drums "6 a-ha appear on a further U.S. TV programme, "American Bandstand", where they are interviewed by Dick Clark and perform "Take On Me", again with Gina from the Go-Go's on drums. " http://www.darsu.btinternet.co.uk/1985.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by Contains Mild Peril (talkcontribs) 19:05, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

If you watch the video (I'm having difficulty finding it online for copyright reasons, and I can't upload my own copy because it's on VHS not DVD), you will note that Pål Waaktaar (nowadays known as Paul Waaktaar-Savoy) is playing drums. If there is no drummer credited on the single, this will be why: he evidently plays both drums and guitar on the studio recording, and since he obviously can't do both live, an additional drummer always features in live performances. You may also note that the Wikipedia article on Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, while it does not specify which instruments he plays in that particular song, does mention that he plays drums (as well as bass guitar, which is sometimes played by another bassist live but sometimes the bass part is played on synthesiser/ computer instead). Contains Mild Peril (talk) 18:13, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Here's a source for the album stating that Pål Waaktaar played drums. http://www.a-ha.ru/albums.phtml?band=a-ha&year=1985 I have also located a copy of the video on YouTube, very poor quality but it's there and it does show Pål playing drums http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AXNBR2smPY&feature=related We have now established that Pål/ Paul plays drums on the album and in the video, and that drums are played in live performances, and using our own ears (original research, I know) it is obvious that drums are played in the single and album versions too. It's somewhat ironic that Wikipedia is full of dubious "facts" which are accepted just because a newspaper printed them, yet a blatantly obvious fact is a bone of contention. If someone writes that David Essex has blue eyes or that Elvis Presley was a baritone, would you challenge these facts if their authors did not cite any reference for them? (Incidentally, I just looked at Elvis Presley's article to see if his voice type was mentioned and referenced since I used that as a hypothetical example, and the link is wrong: it leads to a video about Bruce Springsteen! I will fix this.)

I would contend that with the addition of these last two sources we now have more than enough evidence to support the fact that the studio recordings of Take On Me include drums. I am seldom quite so certain of anything I type. I would bet my life that those sounds do not come from Magne Furuholmen's keyboards. I don't think that anyone could reasonably argue now that there is any remaining doubt, and even if the references were inusufficient (which I don't believe to be the case) then the policy of Ignore All Rules would apply. Contains Mild Peril (talk) 09:27, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

So what you suggest we should put: Pål Waaktaar – drums (not credited), guitar, vocals. Frcm1988 (talk) 21:29, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't see why not actually: I can't imagine him playing drums in the video if it were another uncredited drummer on the record. I wouldn't be quite so certain about the '84 version though, since nobody is seen playing drums in the video and the drum sounds may possibly be electronic (very different from the hit version). However, the first paragraph of the article quite clearly refers to the '85 version(s)

"Take on Me" is a song by Norwegian New Wave band a-ha. Written by the band members, the song was produced by Alan Tarney for the group's first studio album, Hunting High and Low, released in 1985. The song combines synthpop with a varied instrumentation, which includes acoustic guitars, keyboards and a synthesizer.

so it would be appropriate in my opinion to mention drums in the instrumentation part there (the '84 version is mentioned in the next paragraph), and also in the Composition section where it is clear that the information refers to the hit version.

It's interesting to note that the Allmusic pages cited as sources for the instrumentation do not actually specify that information anyway! The album review only mentions "keyboards" and Morten's vocals in Take On Me, while Allmusic's Morten Harket biography page (footnote ref 4) does not specify the instrumentation on Take On Me at all, and in fact seems to be referring more to the other tracks on the album:

However, a-ha's debut album Hunting High and Low was much more diverse than "Take On Me" suggested, and Harket spilled his pain with a high-pitched falsetto over a bed of acoustic guitars and electronics long before Thom Yorke of Radiohead reaped awards and platinum albums for doing it.

One more thing which confuses me: the reference (9) from a-ha's own website http://www.a-ha.com/MEDIA/VIDEO/AHA_videoTakeOnMeO.aspx referring to the original version says:

Although only the instrumentation changed, the remix by Alan Tarney gained heavy rotation on MTV.

Is that true? I thought the hit version was a straight rerelease of the earlier '85 version, but this suggests there are at least 3 completely separate versions (since the vocals are quite obviously different on the '84 and hit versions). Contains Mild Peril (talk) 17:03, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

You're right actually, the description from Allmusic's biography section is a somewhat odd one when we consider it. I don't think "Harket spilled his pain with a high-pitched falsetto over a bed of acoustic guitars and electronics" accurately describes any track on the album! It's implied that it refers to tracks other than Take On Me. Living A Boy's Adventure Tale does include falsetto vocals, but I'm not sure if there's any acoustic guitar in it. Hunting High And Low and Here I Stand And Face The Rain do feature acoustic guitar, but no falsetto from Morten though both songs have moderately high vocals which could possibly be mistaken for falsetto. As for Take On Me itself, well... maybe I'm being excessively pedantic here, but acoustic guitars, plural? I don't think I can hear more than one acoustic or semi-acoustic guitar in any version, can you? I don't think "spilling his pain" would be the best description either; it's an emotionally complex song, but at its heart I would say that it's essentially cheerful. P.S. Elvis Presley wrong link - can you fix this please?

I mentioned above that I discovered a link referenced in the Elvis Presley article which leads to the wrong page, and my intention to correct it. However, I was unable to do so because the page is semi-protected. Can you fix it for me? Footnote 3: Elvis Presley's Vocal Range is supposed to link here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ0Rhm59vsY but it links to another YouTube video about Bruce Springsteen's vocal range. Re:La Isla Bonita

Hey friend, thanks for the info. And yeahh come to think of it, the Gaga articles I'll just list for peer review to see what needs to be worked on for FA. I'm not nominating them now. I'm waiting for Madonna's "Hard Candy" era to be GA, then I'll move onto old MAdonna, you know what we decided, Borderline, Holiday, Lucky Star etc.. Wassup with u? --Legolas (talk2me) 05:32, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Ohh k. Even I was also kinda busy this last two weeks, too much pressure at work. So how were the exams? --Legolas (talk2me) 05:46, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
He he. Was working like a maniac on those three songs. Wanted them to be GA ASAP. Somehow I felt that those three articles were the baddest of the MAdonna articles as full of blogs as sources. Will work on Hard Candy album now. --Legolas (talk2me) 06:00, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
"Poker Face" would have become "Joker Face" then :) --Legolas (talk2me) 06:11, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Hey Frcm. Thanks for your help in resolving it. I'm greatful to you for coming up with this booklet idea. now I can explain both the lyrics in text and properly cite it. Thanks again. --Legolas (talk2me) 08:00, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey there

Hey there Frcm. How are you? Its been a long time since I heard from you. What are you working on nowadays? I've been busy with the Gaga articles and Madonna's Hard Candy and True Blue era. Glad that they are over. Now I'll proceed to some other era of Madonna's. --Legolas (talk2me) 07:47, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Ya I hope so that the album also passes. Its my first album nomination. Well I have been busy at the Lady Gaga articles by bringing all of them to GA quality. PS the "Paparazzi" video is awesome don't you think!! By the way where are you from? --Legolas (talk2me) 05:10, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Wow. You are from Peru!! Wonderful country. So rich in history! Will definitely visit there one day. I know, the "Paparazzi" video does seem epic. Sigh! you can't imaging the amount of trash I have to clean up everyday from the Gaga articles. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:42, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

"inner-city pressure" in west end girls article...

Out of curiosity, did you sneak the 'Inner City Pressure' reference into the West End Girls article, or was that a happy accident? - matt lohkamp 03:14, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Frcm1988 don't preach :-P

I only reverted the sample because your version sounds...kinda bad. I know we're suposed to have low quality samples, but still, her voice sounded bad on your vers. no offence. I can make a new one with the lenght you said it should be, but with a better quality. Alecsdaniel (talk) 17:06, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

OK, done! Alecsdaniel (talk) 17:18, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I'm kinda busy right now on the Romanian Wikipedia with her articles, since I'm the only one there. Right now I'm working on Like a Virgin - I realise you don't speak Romanian, I'm just bragging :-D. It would be cool to have like a Madonna project or smth. BTW, do you know where I can find a source for the peak position in Europe? Alecsdaniel (talk) 20:49, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, I hope it will pass the review. Really? No fair-use? That sucks! :| Now I understand why you choose to work here more. The Romanian Wiki is pretty strict too, but we're allowed to use posters and CD/DVD/single covers on articles about them. But still, we also have a limit. For exemple, at Madonna I wasn't allowed to use fair-use images, only ogg's. But I've addes them back one by one, lol. Alecsdaniel (talk) 10:22, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

4 Minutes

Hey Frcm how are your? Its been long that we chatted here. Well "4 Minutes (Madonna song)" recently passed its GA. I wish for the article to go to FA but before that Ive applied for peer review. Will you review the article with your inputs please? --Legolas (talk2me) 09:26, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Also would you like to collaborate on "Holiday"? I have started working on it in my sandbox. Reply me :) 10:25, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Here Im to bug you again. Would you like to join the Madonna wikiproject? --Legolas (talk2me) 10:46, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Ohh ok. Take your time. In the meantime I'll complete more Madonna articles for GA. --Legolas (talk2me) 14:49, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey there. "Holiday" is complete and nominated for GA. Hope it passes. I have started working on "Who's That Girl (Madonna song)" in my sandbox. Please share your inputs also. I remember you said that you want to work on it once. :) --Legolas (talk2me) 09:54, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey hey, please donot get me wrong Frcm. It was never at all any intention of mine to hurt you at all. I only added the information I found because I thought that we could finish the article! Nobody owns any article here, but Im surprised that you felt that way. I was checking all the Madonna articles before starting the project and saw that Who's that girl was in a pretty good shape thanks to you. Hence I searched for some background info on it and thought of adding it to my sandbox (which I always prefer). If my intention would have been otherwise would I have asked you anything at all? Please my friend donot get me wrong. I really didnot understand that this would hurt you, or else I would not have worked on the article at all. IO hope you'll reply back. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:13, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
I hope this won't create any misunderstanding between us. :( --Legolas (talk2me) 04:26, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey

Hey how are you? True Blue passed its GA. Yeahh! Fancy steamrolling them through WP:Good Topic? By the way have you listened to Celebration? --Legolas (talk2me) 05:10, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

I agree with you my friend. Madonna doesnot do any promotion nowadays in US. Its hardly gonna debut on the Hot 100 this week. It only reached a peak of #18 on iTunes for a few hours. About the GT, what we need before are alternate images for the articles. Also as I can see some references have their publisher names as the redirect ones, (like Macrovision Corporation for Allmusic which has long changed its company name to Rovi Corporation). Hence I'll start making these changes and nominate them. I'm keeping my fingers crossed also because "4 minutes" is close to passing its FAC. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:23, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Somehow I still can't accept the fact that Papa Don't Preach failed its FAC. Those comments were really snarky. Especially there's a user called Tony1 who will never say what to improve but add snarky comments like "this article is pathetic, I'm not happy" etc. They really hit below the belly for a user's hard work. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:40, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
The articles are nominated. By the way according to WP:MoS#Images, an image cannot be exactly below the section header. That is the case happening with the True Blue (song) image. I tried but couldnot really find a way to put it down. Will you see if you can work anything out? --Legolas (talk2me) 11:23, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Hey there. Did you see the wonderful comments the True Blue articles are getting at WP:GT? All are for support only. By the way, I have added the alternate images for "Live to Tell". Check it if you want to tweak the prose. I'm sure we can make all the True Blue articles as FA. Still keeping fingers crossed for "4 Minutes". --Legolas (talk2me) 10:24, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Ya I know. I'm just waiting for the Good Topic Review to complete and the topic to pass, after that I'll nominate the two articles for PR. I'll go ahead and add the alternate text then. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:08, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Hey did you notice that "True Blue" passed the Good Topic nomination? Yeahh! But too bad that "4 Minutes" failed again. This time they showed a pathetic excuse like lack of support even though there were some. :( --Legolas (talk2me) 04:27, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi dear Frcm. I'm perfectly aware of that user and his vandalism tendencies. But don't worry the user is under probation and a tight leash by User:Kww and can't edit untill and unless whatever he wants to add is verified by Kww. Thanks for the warning. I definitely keep my eyes open. As it is after taking all the Madonna articles my watchlist has skyrocketed to 389 :( Mummmyyyyyyyyyy! --Legolas (talk2me) 03:29, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

(Outdent)I'm working on "Lucky Star" in here and the Madonna singles discography in here. The second one is a huge project, so if you are willing to, will you collaborate with me on the singles article? I really need a collaborating effort to make it FEatured list. :( --Legolas (talk2me) 03:04, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Drums in Take On Me

Hi, you might remember a conversation we had ages ago about the instrumentation in a-ha's Take on Me and the fact that drums were not mentioned in instrumental credits on the single or Hunting High and Low album. I finally dug out my vinyl Hunting High and Low LP and found that it has no instrumental credits on the sleeve at all! I couldn't find the CD in the crappy shops around here to check it. Since you mentioned you had looked at the credits, may I ask a favour? Could you please tell me what the instrumental credits do say? I'm particularly interested in guitar credits for Pål Waaktaar (or Paul Paaktaar-Savoy): does the sleeve/ booklet specify acoustic guitar? If not, does it just say "guitar" or "guitars"?

In case you're wondering where I'm going with this, the Take On Me article mentions acoustic guitars (I'm still not sure the plural there is correct, as I mentioned in our earlier discussion) without a reference specifying the use of acoustic guitar in that specific song, so if electric and acoustic guitars are not credited separately on the single or album, we have more evidence to support the existence of drums in Take On Me than to verify the acoustic guitar(s). Since the statement that the instrumentation includes acoustic guitars has been accepted unchallenged for some time, including during the Good Article assessment, the combination of this precedent and common sense surely warrants the inclusion of drums in the article. Contains Mild Peril (talk) 00:46, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the info. Under the circumstances I think it's reasonable to mention the drums in the article so I'll do that at some point and add a reference or two. Contains Mild Peril (talk) 12:25, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Re: 4 Minutes

Thanks a lot Frcm. I still remember that the first music article I promoted to GA was "La Isla Bonita". That too I learned from your work how to develop an article. It was a pleasant surprise yesterday when I saw "4 Minutes" being promoted! I am so happy now. I can move forward with the other articles from "Hard Candy" and push them for FA now. What are you working on? --Legolas (talk2me) 04:33, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

You think so? Well if you would like to collaborate on "Like a Virgin" or "Vogue" lemme know. I have all the info present with me, including the huge background of the songs. Or even for the lesser known songs like "Causing a Commotion", "The Look of Love", "Deeper and Deeper" etc. "Hung Up" I believe needs a fair amount of ce and pruning before I even present it at PR. I learned much at the FAC of "4 Minutes" and would put all that into its cleaning up. I also have the huge Madonna bio article to promote to FA, that's gonna be horrendous I'm sure. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:57, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Even I like "Dear Jessie". I remember I used to take a popsicle, sit on my bike and ask my mom to play this song. :D:D Still the little kid I am! I have the background info for all of them. Tell me when you wanna work on them. I have User:Bookkeeperoftheoccult to help me out on the Madonna BLp. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:09, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
I know about CarpetCrawler (Josh). I miss him so much. Apparently he's in love and is too dedicated to the relationship now. Also, he said that he's into some different project than Wikipedia. I guess he left forever. :( By the way do you know what I can do to improve this? --Legolas (talk2me) 05:19, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Very true. The Canadian additions are really messing it up. However I noticed that in Metallica discography they have just used the RPM main link for Madonna in Canada, maybe I can use it too. --Legolas (talk2me) 07:54, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
