Added 'cleanup' tag to article

The article Ring of Stones has been put online. The one thing that is as sure as the sun rises every day is someone from Wiki coming around and dumping some incomprehensible gibberish for some reason or another. If I sound grumpy it's because this sort of anal activity to dump anything on authors is an activity that actively discourages authors. The reason why I am grumpy now is because the notification placed on the article is cryptic, convoluted and most unhelpful. If you think there is some inadequacy that needs urgent attention, rather than mask it in some vague and meaningless "one size fits all" comment, say what you mean specifically. Else remove the tag and don't waste our time. Bill Woerlee (talk) 05:15, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

I need help. I tried to edit my article E-SDS, but in the upper introductory part of the article I can not find any Edit button. What happened? Thanks Toxinfo (talk) 11:38, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

I don't know why you are not able to see the help button. All your logs are clean and you aren't blocked or anything. I guess the problem is with your browser. Try purging the browser cache (clear browsing data) and reload the page again. I hope this helped! — Finemann (talk) 11:59, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

I have no clue as well. Please check it and try to delete the first part, from the very beginning till the one when the definition of e-SDS starts again. I re-wrote the article and the first part needs to be deleted but it is not possible. I tried in different computers, in different browsers but it does not work. Thanks. Toxinfo (talk) 20:34, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

I've done the edit as you asked. But I am still unsure about your strange problem. May I suggest that you contact the WP:Help desk if the problem persists? I'm sure someone there can sort it out. Regards! — Fιηεmαηη [talk] 09:21, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

You have no idea how grateful I am for what you've done. Thank you very much! Regards! P.S.: His face was little too "bright" so I darkened a bit. It looks wonderful. --Lecen (talk) 13:11, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Finemann, I was wondering if you could turn his beard and hair more "blond". It has now an orange tone that I believe makes him look a little bit artificial. Thank you, --Lecen (talk) 16:34, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi! Could you be kind and tell me if you could make his hair and beard color more similar to the one found in paintings (such as this [1], this [2] and this one [3])? And I also noticed that you diminished a little the size of the portrait. Any particular reason? If you prefer, or if it is bothering you somehow, I can ask for the help of other editors. The last thing I'd like to is to bother you. And you've helped me a lot. Regards, --Lecen (talk) 18:55, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
I'll do that! But I'd like to thank you once more for all your help! Kind regards, --Lecen (talk) 11:30, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Shisa face.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — raekyt 10:52, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm wondering why you uploaded this locally after it was decided on Commons that it should be treated as non-free? To be considered free, a Shisha design would have to be old enough to be in the PD, or be your own creation. J Milburn (talk) 18:58, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Because this was a trace from a photograph, which I believe makes it entirely a creation of mine. The photograph was of a restaurant board or something. — Finemann (talk) 19:16, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Creating a copy of a copyrighted work does not make everything ok, otherwise I could take photos of photos, or screenshots of television shows, and release them as my own work. If the original image is non-free, so are copies. J Milburn (talk) 20:18, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
You don't seem to understand. That image is a SVG image, and required hours of manual tracing. Its not like shamelessly copying someone else's work and posting it as mine. Here is the deal: Suppose some restaurant in some part of the world had a board which has a picture of Santa Claus on it. Now, if I was inspired by that and traced the picture, how in the world would that be copyright infringement as you claim? To whom does the picture of Santa Claus belong to? So I would advice you to read the article Shisa, and read what that image represents before blatantly protesting. — Finemann (talk) 20:42, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Sreelakshmi Suresh

Hello Finemann. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Sreelakshmi Suresh, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: multiple RS references assert more than sufficient importance to pass A7, likely passes WP:BIO too. Thank you. —SpacemanSpiff 11:59, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Speedying G1

From how I understand the criterion, patent nonsense only applies when you can't make heads or tails from the sentence. If it's legible, it isn't G1. --Σ talkcontribs 21:09, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Oh thanks! — Finemann (talk) 21:11, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

It appears two articles you tagged for CSD A1 are not eligible under that criterion as they are not considered "very short". They may, however, be eligible for Articles for deletion or Proposed deletion. If you believe they are blatant hoaxes, you may tag them for CSD G3. mechamind90 21:58, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

G4 speedy deletion criteria

Hi Finemann! I just wanted to let you know that G4 only applies to pages that were deleted as a result of a discusion (i.e. XfD). It specifically does not apply to articles that were speedy deleted or deleted due to an expired PROD. In most cases of speedy deletion, such as J & S Law Firm, the original reason still applies (in that case, it is still a copyright violation) - in which case, you can tag with the same CSD criteria (which I have done with the article in question). Let me know if you have any questions! Singularity42 (talk) 02:46, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Oh thank you! — Finemann (talk) 02:49, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

I removed your CSD tag at The Hessian and wikified it into a short stub. As you noted yourself it is worthy of inclusion. If it is deleted it will only scare away well meaning newcomers from creating the article, now it may yet be improved by someone. SpeakFree (talk) 18:41, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Untitled Fifth mewithoutYou Album

Hello Finemann. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Untitled Fifth mewithoutYou Album, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: WP:CSD#G4 only applies where the previous deletion was by a deletion discussion such as AfD. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 11:27, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

speedy deletions

As reviewing administrator, I declined your A7 speedy on Hazrath Machiliwale Shah. Depending on the reference, he might actually be a notable religious leader. But in order to satisfy WP:CSD#A7, it is not necessary to be notable, or even probably notable ; it is only necessary to have some indication of plausible importance. This is a very low bar, and deliberately so. Even an undocumented article on an Indian holy figure is not A7, and someone might find documentation. A documented one might well pass even AfD.

I notice a number of other administrators have also been declined your speedy deletions. The criteria are interpreted narrowly. A1 in particular--if you can tell what the article is about, the context is sufficient. . The purpose of speedy deletion is to clear out the hopeless junk, of which there is a great deal--I myself have deleted over 12,000 since becoming an admin. In order to keep from drifting towards excessive deletion under the flow of hopeless submitted articles, I make it a point to reread WP:CSD#A7 and WP:Deletion policy every once in a while . You should do likewise, and I suggest doing it before placing any more such tags. DGG ( talk ) 16:45, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Two other useful pages of advice about speedy tagging are WP:10CSD and WP:A7M. JohnCD (talk) 16:48, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Idi meat

Hello Finemann. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Idi meat, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: I do not think this is an obvious enough hoax for speedy deletion, though it certainly needs sources. Speedy deletion declined: Archaeorhizomyces

Hello Finemann. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Archaeorhizomyces, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: this article is very short, but it does not fit WP:CSD#A1 because the context is clear - it is a new class of fungus, and the reference provided shows that it is not a hoax. This is a useful stub with prospects of being expanded. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 21:18, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined

Thanks for your recent New page patrolling. Just to let you know, I've declined your speedy deletion nomination of Nithya(movie) under the WP:A1 criteria because context was clearly shown. The context criteria only applies when it is impossible to determine the point of the article. In this case it was clear that it was film called Nithya. I have proposed it for deletion under WP:CRYSTAL and WP:Notability (film) since none of the other speedy deletion criteria clearly apply. --Mrmatiko (talk) 09:14, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Please slow down

Hello Finemann. Thanks for patrolling new pages - it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know however, regarding Ramesh purella, that tagging articles for speedy deletion moments after creation as lacking context (CSD A1) or content (CSD A3), and articles being created through Article Wizard, is too fast. It's best to wait at least 10 - 15 minutes for more content to be added, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), and copyright violations (G12) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. Salvio Let's talk about it! 13:34, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Thoth (newsreader) contested speedy deletion

Hi Finemann, just to let you know that I have removed the speedy deletion tag from Thoth (newsreader), because it didn't seem to be a web-based app, I have PRODed it instead. With speedy deletion, if there is any doubt whether the article meets the criteria, it is better to use another process. Thanks, Quasihuman | Talk 11:43, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

I know you just commented... but then, so did I. While 1949 news sources from a post WWII India will be at best difficult to find, the film has managed to make it into the enduring record and is found through a Google book search. In 75 years of Indian cinema the film is among those referred to as "popular and trend-setting films". In Indian cinema: a visual voyage it is stated as "Roop K Shorey's first major hit after he migrated from Lahore". In Biblio it is stated "... Shourie, he formed a company to produce feature films in Punjabi and Hindi and made the highly successful Ek Thi Ladki." My thought is that with a little work and regular editing, this new article can expand this article and be resonably sourced. Might you consider changing your "weak delete" into a weak keep? 'Music' field section in Template:Infobox film

There is a field 'Music' in Template:Infobox film. What it means ? A person who composed songs of this film or a person who composed background score of the film ? If 'Music' field represents a person who composed songs of this film, then what field represent a person who composed background score of the film. An equal importance for a person who composed background score in a film. If it is not available that field or create new field ? Please consider this suggestion — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vikian (talkcontribs) 07:15, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello! Technically this refers to background score only (which is otherwise known as the soundtrack of the film). Realize that movies have songs only in India. And not even 10% of the movie articles on Wiki be about Indian movies. So I guess adding a new field is out of the question (I'm still trying to get the title of production designer in). That said, I would suggest you to give credit to both the composer of the songs and the background score individually. Adaminte Makan Abu is a good example of how you can do that. Hope this helped. Regards! — Fιηεmαηη [talk] 09:18, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

I share your belief that the current references don't make the subject notable. But unfortunately, people over here don't seem to accept that. The main problem is this : From a third person view, news items specifically about her have come in a prestigious newspaper like the Hindu. Now items like that have come even about me on the Hindu and I would not think of making an article abt me on Wikipedia as anything more than a joke. For people who know abt how these things work, this particular article doesn't confer notability. Hence, on Malayalam Wikipedia, this article wouldn't pass an AfD. But I guess it will here. I say you should clean up this article a bit and let go of it. There is lot more you can do on Wikipedia. Best wishes -- Raziman T V (talk) 18:34, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
