The Sierra Madre, CA External link removal

The Downtown Dirt link should be removed because there isn't any content there anymore. It has all been removed, except for a quote on the main page.

As to the question of biased news sources, should the article only have links to unbiased news sources? In that case, what about the Mt. Wilson Observer link? The Mt. Wilson Observer is essentially "the other side" of issues when compared with Downtown Dirt.

I'm guessing that because of the nature of an encyclopedia, perhaps there should only be links to unbiased sources, but on the other hand, how about including all the links and letting readers have at it and decide for themselves? Judging from the ugly politics in the city lately, it seems like deciding what's correct and not correct to link to here on Wikipedia could start a wiki-war ...

(In any case, no matter what happens, there is still no content on the Downtown Dirt site, so it still makes sense to me to have the link removed. Just my take.)

I thank whoever made this comment, and I believe it is the appropriate action to take. However, I ask that all users that decide to remove a link from the article explain their reasons on the article talk page before doing so. It's true, we don't want a wiki-war.

Your VandalProof Application

Dear FastLizard4,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. Daniel Bryant 10:45, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

How to get the number on the blue screen of death

It actually hasn't happened since I posted that, ironically. *knocks on wood* But thanks, at least now I know what to do incase it happens again, for now I'm not gonna do all of what you said...just don't wanna touch any of that right now as it's working fine, haha. But, if it does happen, I'll be sure to try it. Thank you. BsroiaadnTalk 04:41, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Joining a Wikiproject

Just add your name to the list of members and you're in! Or just start contributing to the project and you're sort of in anyhow. Cheers. -- Myke Cuthbert (talk) 16:49, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

I really need help...

I never thought I would be using this tag, but I would like to know exactly how to create a category. I tried to create one titled "Wikipedians who have experienced Blue Screens of Death", but no matter what I did, it always sorted everyone under "U" for "User", not under their username. The remnants of my futile attempt are there, but my userboxes no longer link to it. If you can, please create the category for me. Thanks!
--FastLizard4 (Talk|Contribs) 06:36, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

If you create a category with the precise name Category:Wikipedians who have experienced Blue Screens of Death, it will probably wind up at Wikipedia:User categories for discussion. In general, the only proper way to create a category is to categorize it within a more general category, such as Category:Wikipedians. I think you can list your username under "F" in the category by adding to your userpage. Shalom Hello 06:55, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Or place Pagename at the end of the category, as I've done here. I do agree with Shalom, however, that this category will likely be deleted after a discussion on cats for discussion. - auburnpilot talk 07:01, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. But how exactly do I do that? I found the category for Category:Wikipedians by technology, which may work as the general category, but how exacly to I format the page in that case, rather, make it a sub-category?

By the way, I tried it, you can see the diff here

RE: I'll Fix Your Userpage

I need layout help etc. My userboxes are all jumbled up and I'd like to find more (which you helped me with, thanks). So basically can you make boxes where you have to click to open the userboxes. I give you permission to add those to my userboxes, but not my projects involved in. Any other way I could improve my page would be greatly appreciated. Brennerdlinger 07:29, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

EndUN Userbox

Hi, you recently participated in the Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:DieWeisseRose/Userboxes/EndUN discussion. I have reluctantly submitted the closing statement by User:Tony Sidaway for deletion review. Please consider taking a look at Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2007_July_1#User:DieWeisseRose.2FUserboxes.2FEndUN. Thanks. --DieWeisseRose 02:43, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

I saw your remark and I think you're supporting my argument but I'm not quite sure. Sorry, I'm just learning the finer points of deletion discussions and reviews and transclusions and all that. --DieWeisseRose 05:02, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
I am, sort of. I think Tony's point should have been mentioned, but not forced upon you or written in the manner it was so it appears to be required.
--FastLizard4 (Talk|Contribs) 05:05, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I thought so, and I appreciate your support. Would you please consider changing your vote to "Reject" per my comment below your remarks and the example of User:xaosflux on the del rev page? Also, would you mind keeping this conversation here on your talk page instead of the back-and-forth?. --DieWeisseRose 05:37, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Done.

Thanks. --DieWeisseRose 19:29, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Ownership of Userboxes?

Although I respect your desire to keep control of the userboxes you have created, this seems to go against WP:OWN. I have created a whole bunch of userboxes and I can't stop anyone from modifying them. I suppose I could go into an edit war but userboxes are not worth the effort. The copyright for making userboxes is the same as articles, so although you may like to have some "comment" before changing them, an editor who wishes to change one is not actually doing anything wrong. I'm not saying this because I have decided to change your userboxes, but because I respect the rights of other editors to modify the userboxes I create without having to consult me. --One Salient Oversight 11:30, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thankyou for rewriting my comment in a fashion which it will be kept on the anti-UN userbox discussion. However, on my talk page Sefringle has left a Personal Attack warning. I think this is going far too far and am thinking of contacting an admin to get it permanently removed. I thought I'd message you first as you have more experience on here than I, to ask if do you think my comment could have been misconstrued as a personal attack? Thanks, --Nordic Crusader 05:28, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, sorry for the late response, but thanks for your advice, much appreciated. --Nordic Crusader 02:09, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

User box functions

I have noticed that you have one of the userboxes I have created on your page. Did you know that that userbox has 2 variable parameters? the first one replaces the "insert random comment here" and the second one (optional, can be used to help the random comment (see it on my userpage) it has a butterfly as a picture.) Oh, I like your BSOD user boxes ;). Sincerely, Sir intellegent - smartr tahn eaver!!!! 22:58, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

And, how did you do that online status thing anyway? Sincerely, Sir intellegent - smartr tahn eaver!!!! 23:01, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Reply

Thanks for the tips!
Here is how you get the status changer:
1. Create a page called User:Sir Intellegent/Status and copy the below to it

2. Create a page called User:Sir Intellegent/StatusTemplate and copy the below to it

<!-- Credit User:Misza13 -->
<div style="border: 0px solid black; background: white; float: right; position: relative; top: -30px; padding: 5px">
Sir Intellegent's status: {{ #switch: {}
| in=<span style="color: green;">Online </span>
| busy=<span style="color: blue;">Busy/Away </span>
| out=<span style="color: red;">Offline </span>
}}
</div>

3. Copy the below to your monobook.js file

// User:Voice_of_All/Addtabs/monobook.js

importScript('User:Voice_of_All/Addtabs/monobook.js');

// User:Misza13/statusChanger.js

importScript('User:Misza13/statusChanger.js');

4. Clear your browser's cache
You should now see in, busy, and out to the left of log out at the top of the page (on any page)
To change your status, simply click in, busy, or out!
Please note that you must use the monobook theme for this to work.
--FastLizard4 (Talk|Contribs) 02:37, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh, paste to any page you want your status displayed on.

Thanks for not immediately moving it back to Colorado Springs, Colorado. I was following Wikipedia:Naming conventions (settlements), which I assumed was part of the MOS. NCC states that "The general rule is to name an article about a city or town with a name that does not conflict with any other town or concept as city name." Since there is no other Colorado Springs that needed to be disambiguated, the correct title for the article is simply Colorado Springs. Λυδαcιτγ 23:28, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

OK. I'm a (little) less confused now. I couldn't move the page back myself, anyway, because a redirect page still exists at Colorado Springs, Colorado. Only an Admin could move it back. By the way, how do you get the "AAAAAAAA" behind the Wikipedia symbol like that? It's really cool!
--FastLizard4 (Talk|Contribs) 06:10, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

User:Audacity/AAAAAAA

Take a look at the top of this page. The code is . Λυδαcιτγ 06:28, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! Oh, I clicked the link to Uncyclopedia in your userbox. That is the only page I like on it!

Page Renovation Offer

Hello, thanks for offering your help. Anyway, do you have something like a 'portfolio' page so I can take a look at your past renovations, if you have any? Optakeover 10:20, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

The only person I have helped (so far) is User:Brennerdlinger. I added interactive userbox organization, and helped him with his monobook.js file.
--FastLizard4 (Talk|Contribs) 02:21, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I'll accept the offer! Please organise my userboxes. I'll also need help to stylize my signature. Thanks. Optakeover 11:44, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Under the 'About me' section, seperate the language proficency boxes away and put them under a new section. Rename as Wikipedia:Babel and wikilink it. I'll choose the eexapandable drop list. After that, I can continue to expand my userpage so that the drop lists aren't redundant due to lack of content. Optakeover 02:35, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the renovation. I am quite busy now, so I will add what I want some time later on. Once again, thanks for the help! Optakeover 14:49, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
