March 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Significant Gains (the album), a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. GregJackP (talk) 22:58, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Significant_gains_by_greg_phillinganes.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Significant_gains_by_greg_phillinganes.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 23:00, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the Significant Gains article[edit]

I have reviewed the deleted article; I am going to decline recreating it at this point because, though it looks as though the artist is notable, the entire article was a copyright violation. The text appears to have been directly, word for word, or nearly so, from the liner notes of the album. If you would like, you may create a new version which is NOT a copyright violation. I have two suggestions before you do so, however. First, is that you create a "draft copy" in your userspace before taking the article live; Wikipedia:Workpages and WP:SUBPAGE and WP:USERPAGE all contain instructions on how to create draft articles as a subpage of your userpage. Secondly, you should try to model your article on existing articles about music albums. There are thousands of Wikipedia articles on albums, and they follow a standard format and layout, See Wikipedia:Featured articles and Wikipedia:Good articles for examples of the best work. Those may be longer and more indepth than you want to start with for your first article, but they will at least give you some inspiration. It would also be a good idea to learn a little about how to properly format an article (See Wikipedia:Layout for some tips). If you need any help in working on your article, or have any questions, feel free to drop me a note on my talk page, and I will try to help out wherever I can! --Jayron32 14:19, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
