Hello[edit]

My name is Emily Nakkawita and I am a PhD student studying psychology at Columbia University.

Welcome![edit]

Hello, Emilynakka, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was E. Tory Higgins, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms our use and policy on paid editing.

Hi Amory, thanks for your note! I've updated this page to include a COI declaration as well as the Talk page for E. Tory Higgins. It seems like the only item left to address is the content of the page, and I truly didn't see any of this as promotional — it just hadn't been updated in years and contained far less information on Higgins' career and research than his peers in social psychology. (For example, see Roy Baumeister, Carol Dweck, Arie W. Kruglanski.) Further, I've taken care to include references for almost every single sentence. I'd be happy to adjust the page to reflect any content you think is inappropriate, though. Could you please let me know? Thanks! Emilynakka (talk) 17:21, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like this was meant for Amorymeltzer. Primefac (talk) 21:22, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking care of that Emily! I'm glad you took the time to update the page, it clearly needed a lot of work! My concerns were more about overall tone. For example, you wrote Higgins has conducted seminal work..., which isn't particularly neutral (see Wikipedia:Neutral point of view). Likewise "leading departments." I also tried to cut down on the material that read more like a CV or faculty page. I think the Baumeister lead has too many interests, but Dweck and Kruglanski have a nice, tight introduction. Finally, it's important that his article be about him, not his research subjects. He's clearly integral to SDT and RFT, but when I read that second career paragraph, I feel like it leans too heavily toward the research topics and away from Higgins himself. Does that clear up where I was coming from a bit? I didn't remove too much I don't think, but feel free to keep improving it! ~ Amory (utc) 21:45, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response, Amorymeltzer! Now that you've made these edits, would it be possible to remove the mainentance tags from the page? Emilynakka (talk) 23:13, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the tags are inaccurate for the general audience of an encyclopedia, but I'll take some time for a deeper pass tomorrow, and see where I end up. I'm not a subject expert in psych, but will do my best! ~ Amory (utc) 00:55, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
