ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:40, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Query[edit]

Hello ArbCom, I notice you have removed my edits on the Cody's Books page. I sourced all the content from the Cody's own book, a history of their own store, so I am wondering why you have removed the passage. Please can you explain? I have never had any connection to the store myself but went totally by what is in their book. Balance person (talk) 07:34, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia articles must be written in the author's own words, and your addition about 1968 was directly copied and pasted from https://kids.kiddle.co/Cody%27s_Books which is a modified quote from page 3 of Cody's Books: The Life and Times of a Berkeley Bookstore. Please see WP:COPYPASTE and WP:QUOTE for rules. If direct quotes are used (which doesn't seem necessary in this instance) they must be properly attributed. Ekmz (talk) 16:04, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The parts I added are in my own words. I have the original pages of the Cody's own book on the history of their store with me. I have copied and pasted nothing. The link you gave to kids.kiddle.co does not have anything in it related to my part of the history section. I cannot understand why you think there is. @Ekmz, I think you are misreading the diffs. The section beginning "Cody's served as a first-aid station..." was not added by Balance person; it existed in the article before their recent edit, and still existed in the article after your reversion. It was in fact added by @Classicfilms in this edit in 2008. CodeTalker (talk) 18:31, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
