So if someone is blocked because the CU and the trigger happy CU user and Admin does not like use of the name "Dubh" or two people contributing in the same area then all ye have to do is say you are sorry and all will be well again? Same area, same group of IP ranges, same useragents, same phone, similar name. Nor did I say that anyone changed anyone's name. I was meaning to reply sooner, but what a pleasant surprise to see some further conversation. I understand the issues of vandalism arise on a regular basis. I have been using Wikipedia for a few years now and making a few edits without a username here and there. When I say few, I mean probably 5 over the years. Then one day I decided to setup an account and get to it after I saw clearly a few cases where the sleeves needed to be rolled up and the work done and I was well able to contribute. So off I went. I have added a number of articles to my watch list and thus far I have seen various things happen. Little tweaks here and there from different people which helped me to understand that people who create articles, will over time continually improve them. They may also adopt others or extend their interest elsewhere. I found myself doing this also and justified to do so based on what I have observed. But I also noted that pages would be vandalised, and in particular pages about schools. I think it is fairly obvious what kind of people do this particular vandalism. It is clearly not constructive and immature, which is a trait of these vandals clearly. I did notice that most of the time, immediate corrections were made to revise the changes made my other users / admin. This then brings me to this incident. I now understand that some people will make a more orchestrated attempt to vandal articles. Luckily for all the readers and other editors of Wikipedia, there are people who are giving up their time to stop and prevent further negative actions. This can only be good for the community. I was initially wondering just how I was associated and labelled a Sock Puppet. Interesting and a little frustrating, as I wondered had it anything to do with an edit I had made briefly before my account was disabled. Never the less, as with all things on Wikipedia, someone has been there and done that before (well most of the time), and there was enough information available explaining what this "Sock Puppet" business was all about as I had never heard of it before. So, a simple email to clear up any misunderstandings, and everything straightened out. So, what I was initially going to simply say a few days ago was, keep up the good work and we'll all make Wikipedia better. Also, I should thank those that jumped to my defence also. Well spotted! Said editor has also added similar content to a few other articles - e.g. Slane Castle, Odyssey (Belfast), Marlay Park and Vicar Street to name a few. I've removed the Upcoming Events section from Grand Canal Theatre and left a note on the talk page about it. I also left a note on the anonymous editors' talk page. There's some suggestions on how to deal with spamming at WP:SPAM##Warning_spammers - I left a {{subst:welcomespam}} on the anonymous editors' page - playing it by ear depending on the response is probably the best action.

WP:CVU has some advice about dealing with vandalism. It also has some information about tools that may be of use. Many of these automate processes such as rolling pages back to earlier versions or warning disruptive users.

WP:UAL lists the User Access Levels and what they mean.

The Irish Wikipedians' notice board may be of interest, as may be WP:IMOS, WP:MOS and Wikipedia Signpost.

You're right that I'm not an admin - I have been around for just over four years now, so I know a reasonable amount, though there are still a few things that are a mystery to me.

I'll keep an eye (watch) this page, so if you post a response here I'll see it.

I do know the small ruin in Blackrock park. The only suggestion I've heard about it might be a Victorian folly, but I'm not convinced.

I believe there is a small Church on George's Ave. As you head towards the sea it is on the right hand side about 100m before the Blackrock bypass. It should probably go in the list of Churches in Blackrock. From my recollection it is a 'Society of Friends' church. If I'm correct, then a reference to it should probably go in the list of Churches.

I noticed that in the list of national schools, the only one which had the religion mentioned was St Philip & James. For consistency it should probably mention the religion of all or none. My first reading of it was that we could assume all the others are catholic, but actually that's not the case.

If you don't mind I'm removing the word 'sadly' from 'sadly demolished'. Not because I disagree with the sentiment, but rather because it is not really the neutral language that should be used in an encyclopedia. ( I haven't checked if you are the one who put it in, in the first place.)

Something else we might consider is a list of people associated with Blackrock. Notable people who lived there, grew up there, went to school there etc.

I know the church and I have a few photos of the church. It is a methodist church that is not used at the moment. It looks like something might be happening sometime soon, but other than that I am amazed that it is sitting there doing nothing.

You are right, there are plenty of notable people and it is quite a bit of work to write about them. I'm working on that at the moment, it is interesting.

As regards "sadly", I may well have put that there, and no problem as I do try to be neutral, so slip of the keyboard there.

The schools, I'll sort that out.

I thought that the old methodist church was beside the old library? The 'Society of Friends' church is even smaller and is in a residential area and I was under the impression that it is still in use. It is much further away from the sea. I know what you mean, what is now Urban Junction, that is an old Methodist Hall as far as I know. The church on Georges Avenue was a church of the First Wesleyan church, that I understood to be Methodist. Perhaps they moved to Newtown Avenue. Irish Board of First Fruits

Thanks. I am quite interested in this too and I suppose a Did you know what bring more light to the subject of church funding. I saw the board mentioned as part of the funding for new churches in lots of references. I also noticed that many architects worked for the board, but I didn't know what it was or why it gave grants.

I would like to see the article enhanced a bit more and I see an edit you made to show that Jonathan Swift influenced its creation. At this time I am unable to show why or how he influenced the creation, so I left it out for now. You also make reference to another encyclopaedia, which in my understanding, they shouldn't be used as references in Wikipedia.

If you could help with the enhancement that would be great. I would like to get more information about architects and notable buildings that were built or greatly enhanced by the board. I would also like to know who the board members were. It would be good to have more detail about the board rather than just dates and funds. I'm sure over time those things will be learnt.

Also, an interesting edit made by someone added St. Kieran’s Church of Ireland, Cloughjordan, North Tipperary, seems to say the church was built in 1837 which contradicts the 1833 end of the Board. Perhaps the church was built prior to 1837 and was extensively remodelled that. Or perhaps it was one of the last designs and was not completed until 1837. Anyway it raises a point of contradiction.

That's an interesting challenge. I'm afraid to say there are a number of copyright issues to overcome. I will have to look into this further as I have been reading up on those of late and find it a little confusing still. --DubhEire (talk) 18:51, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Ballyfermot College of Further Education

I reverted the edit in question to your edit and left a comment on the editors' talk page. Normally I use WP:TWINKLE to automatically leave messages about articles and edits (though there wasn't one for this situation). If you leave a warning there is a variety of them and there are four levels starting from the most friendly and accomodating (could apply to a new or overenthusiastic editor) to the strictest. The templates are listed at WP:WARN for more detail and usually people apply a level 1 template and apply higher ones if the editor persists apply higher ones. (Usually these apply since the start of the month.) Most level 1 warnings seem to do the trick most of the time and the tone of the different levels seems to be a good guide to manually writing warnings. (Level 1 is friendly, almost apologetic in tone.) Some examples of templates are listed in

Hi, thanks for putting a photo on the St. George's church article - saves me having to make a trip to the northside! I was wondering whether you have any photos of the Mariners' Church in Dun Laoghaire, for an article I've just created for it: Mariners' Church, Dún Laoghaire. Sorry to hear about your camera. That is a cost that is not needed in these times. I want to buy a new camera, but a fair bit of saving is required.

Anyway, as you were saying about moving St. Audeon's. I noted that the RC is referred to as St. Audeon's, High Street and the COI is St. Audeon's, Cornmarket. Perhaps we should rename both of these with some thought. I would be happy with St. Audeon's, High Street (Catholic) and perhaps the other as St. Audeon's, Cornmarket (Church of Ireland).

What do you think of the renaming of both for clarity?

I think there is a tool that will do the rename and keep all the history intact. Must look that up.

What camera did you get? I have my eye out, but I have been very hesitant to buy as I'm unsure. I want to get a good DSLR, but it is not practical for snapping around the place. There are some really excellent compacts out at the moment that do an exceptional job.

As regards city centre photos, roughly where will you be. There are quite a few photos for articles needed around town. It's just a case of finding them. That reminds me, I have a suggestion for the WikiProject Ireland needs a photo category to help with this task. Have you see an editors request for photos of the HQ of Aerlingus and Ryanair?

I would like to do an article on the Unitarian church at Stephen's Green. It would be good to get a nice photo of outside on a nice day and also the inside if possible. Also, the church that is connected to Trinity beside the Dept of Justice. Then there is the Shelbourne hotel where there are no inside pictures. The Dawson street article reuses the Mansion house picture, perhaps a picture that illustrates Dawson street better. Also, some better pictures of the Mansion House showing its architecture would be good. Actually if you do a search for Dawson street you will see there are a few articles related that have no pic. Hodges and Figgis has no pic, but the outlet on Dawson Street would be notable.

For your own practice you could just shoot off a couple of hundred in around Trinity college. You are bound to get a few good ones there. There are many Trinity articles about the different schools / departments. Go check them out. Taking these kind of pictures will improve your skills as you will get the chance to photograph them again and again and look at your photos on your PC with your critical eye. Then you will see mistakes / improvements you can make and revisit. A great way to learn in my opinion. You may even notice striking differences between the seasons.

Funny you should mention the Unitarian Church. I was there on Good Friday for the commemoration and was sorry not to have arrived a little earlier to take snaps of those glorious stained glass windows. However, by the time I got there it would have been a bit intrusive. Camera is a Canon G9, which I got at a knock-down price because it is no longer the 'latest and greatest', but is more than adequate for my modest requirements. That looks like a nice camera. It also takes pictures in RAW format. You should look up about that format and how to use it. I am only learning about that myself.

Feel free to create an article about the Unitarian church if you want. You are right about feeling a bit funny taking pictures, but on the other hand, just go for it. Footnotes are really needed whenever you're citing a book. You're saying material is from this book, which is fair enough, but it doesn't tell the reader what information is from the book, and which of the (I assume) hundreds of pages that information is found on. Fire Brigade Photos

I have access to the O'Brien Institute through the Civil Defence and will endeavour to get some shots of the lads training for the article as it deserves more attention. Your help please

I admire your work first of all! I should be grateful, if you could find the time to include the Irish Stock Exchange (28 Anglesea Street)and the Law Society of Ireland (Blackhall Place, Dublin 7) in your nice style of Dublin photographs.

I have been known been known to award Barnstars, but only to those to make genuine contributions to Wikipedia, which you certainly have for a new contributor.

I also note that there are no geo coords for the Irish Stock Exchange article. Should there be? I may have this wrong, but the building on 28 Anglesea Street is no longer used (historical significant of course), but the stock exchange is somewhere else now?

The Law Society of Ireland is no problem either, and again no geo coords, should there be? I can tag them if you want and concur that the articles are located where these buildings are.

Belated hello and thanks. I'm back again (again) and going to the old reliable editing for me of geographical locations, pictures and local history. For example, where to do more like the river Liffey geo route map. I wonder if those guys over on the geo project tweaked a few things yet to give a more enriching experience.
