Nomenclature[edit]

This account, Dreamshit, has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia, because your username does not meet our username policy.

Names should not be offensive, disruptive, promotional, misleading, or related to a "real-world" group or organization. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

Please choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. However, do not create a new account if you wish to credit your existing contributions to a new name through a username change. To request a username change:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to edit this talk page even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a list of names that have already been taken. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Cirt (talk) 04:06, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Ah, taken from this world before I could draw breath. You dastardly fiend, User has requested a username change.. There is nothing profane, misleading, promotional, bot-imitative, disruptive or offensive about this nom de plume - shit is in this instance deployed in the countercultural Californian sense of stuff (i.e. "that's some good shit bro") rather than the G. G. Allin sense, and dreamshit is a name of only the most positive connotations, denoting as it does a fictional hallucinogen of the utmost renown and desirability in the novel Perdido Street Station by China Miéville (see Shaviro 2003, "dreamshit" p.170). I urge you to reconsider. Respectfully, dreamshit 05:31, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Reconsidered. Declined. --jpgordon::==( o ) 05:45, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

An explanation for why I am barred from contributing would be most appreciated. What is so obviously beyond the pale about this moniker that two administrators don't feel the need to explicate? Wikipedia:USERNAME#Dealing_with_inappropriate_usernames advises first to Talk to the user and then to Request for Comment, yet here we have skipped straight to throw away the key. Yours in mutual good faith, dreamshit 05:56, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Wikipedia:Username policy and other guidance to administrators has that the word is not acceptable in a username. Community guidance wins on this matter, please choose another username. If you are having troubles, I am sure that we can generate some ideas for you. billinghurst (talk) 06:16, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{adminhelp}}

Greetings, Billinghurst, and thank you for your reply. I am not sure I understand what you mean by "has that the word is not acceptable in a username", but neither of the words comprising my username are mentioned in the Username policy, and I do not know what specifically you refer to by "other guidance to administrators". You refer to "community guidance" but cite no such consensus. If you wouldn't mind, could you please link to the discussion wherein it was decided that my username be blocked on sight? As I have explained in response to the non-rationales above, the name dreamshit is an innocuous phrase taken from a young adult fantasy novel, and far from being profane it has wholly positive meaning of distilled dreams, accumulated human creativity - no more offensive than the activity of the protagonist of Roald Dahl's The BFG.
So far this has been a rather Kafkaesque experience - 1) my username is somehow in breach of policy and I am blocked before I have even made an edit 2) my case is "reconsidered" and "declined" without elaboration and 3) in breach of an untraceable community convention. This is your welcome to the encyclopedia. I don't understand why you have refused to put this matter to a request for comment; I really do not think it too much to ask that it be settled according to wiki principles of peer assessment and consensus decision-making instead of executive whim, especially given that there is little agreement among administrators (Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive248#WP:UAA). As I am barred, could you please post my below article to Idea For A Universal History With A Cosmopolitan Purpose under my handle? Thank you, dreamshit 09:15, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your sentiments but with two admins already having decided, I will take this to the community for wider discussion rather than risk wheel-warring over it. Please have some more patience. Regards SoWhy 10:57, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, I appreciate it. dreamshit 10:59, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your statement of the source of your inspiration, does not mean that it is not offensive to some users, and the expectation that the context would be known or sourced is not practicable or reasonable, and it would be foreseeable that those who take offence would not pursue an expression of the intricate meaning. The indication of three administrators declining it is that not an indication of their views of potential for offensiveness and suitability? You made no specific request for this matter to be referred, though you did ponder why that process had not been undertaken, nor did you express a wish to be unblocked to take the matters to the expressed forum. SoWhy has now referred this matter now that you have specifically made such a request.
To the guidance that I used, existing files that contain keywords of blocks, and the history of usernames involving your keyword. billinghurst (talk) 13:40, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There has been some discussion over this matter at..[[1]] and it has been suggested that as you have no mainspace edits that a course of action for you in this case would be to leave this account (so to speak) and create a new account with perhaps a less controversial username. I would suggest this is the easiest solution for you. I hope this helps. Off2riorob (talk) 14:30, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would second Off2riorob's advice, and also offer the alternative of posting a note here saying you want to change your username rather than starting over, if that appeals to you more. It's likely an admin would be willing to unblock so long as you specified an alternative username that is acceptable. "Dreamshit" is not acceptable so you either have to change it or start over with another account.
Aside from that, thanks for working up a short article on Kant's essay. I was surprised we did not have an article on that given its importance. If you change your username or create a new account you should start the article yourself, but if you don't do either I'll be happy to put it into article space for you. --Bigtimepeace | talk | contribs 15:37, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Since it seems likely you won't be returning I've gone ahead and moved the article into article space after which I made a few changes to the wording and such and explained its origins on the article talk page (it's not possible to post the article "under your handle"). Thanks again for your contribution to the encyclopedia, and hopefully others more schooled in Kant than I will expand on it in the future. --Bigtimepeace | talk | contribs 04:23, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here is a link to your article Idea_for_a_Universal_History_with_a_Cosmopolitan_Purpose in case you should want to get yourself a new account and a new name you can add to it then, thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 10:18, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Block[edit]

Hi, Dreamshit, if you want to be unblocked, why not change your username in dreams hit? In the end, I think that is what you meant. Isnt' it?. Lotje (talk) 10:54, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
