What does it take?

What does it take to get an administrator to look at the problem with Knight's tour? It is at noticeboard and every one on the list has been addressed except this one. Even all of the ones that are more recent. Bubba73 (talk), 14:26, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

"Not notable"

I do not see how what I added to the article is "not notable". This was a national news event, and a belief held but many people around the world. I even included it with a strong referance, which displayed Commissioner John Wiley Price of Dallas backing up this belief. Of course, as a white man yourself, you may not feel the pain and hatred that comes from a racist society and would do everything to try and stop the truth coming out. And you're comment "use the talk page to discuss further changes"? This is a wiki, to be edited by the people for the people. It should not be policed and patrolled to only let information that is deemed fit by white editors to be displayed. 93.96.182.208 (talk) 12:17, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

You are taking a generalisation of YouTube videos as non-notable sources. That makes as much sense as an interview in the NYT being a non-notable source. I think that you may be mixing up notability and reliability. I was not presenting the source as the sole occurance of this hatred, but just one example of it. If you think of the English language as the idea that the term "black-hole" is a racist one, then that referance is just an utterance. It seems exteremley strange, and very offensive, to me that you view this as a misinterpretation, the use of "wtf" in the revert comment showed that you are enetirely disregarding the thoughts and feelings of another race, of another person. However, I wish to stay neutral in this. Therefore, when I put it onto the page, I referenced it from a reliable source (straight from the mouth of a Counciller) and used the term "some people". I am only telling the truth, am I not? If it is your wish to remove truth from an enyclopedia, then surely you are working backwards?

93.96.182.208 (talk) 13:47, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello, thank you for your reply. I am not black, and nor do I find the term, or your list of terms, offensive. All I did was include something in the article which was referenced and sourced reliably. Do you fail to see the truth of, not what was said, but the fact that he said it? I find that truth hard to miss. I thought that Wikipedia was an open encyclopedia, documenting facts that can interest and teach people all over the globe. If I am wrong in that pretence then I do apologise. 93.96.182.208 (talk) 17:52, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

License tagging for File:En-Laika.ogg

Thanks for uploading File:En-Laika.ogg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Mobile app suggestions

Dear Dmitry;
Thanks for your good work on the Mobile app. Without you, I would have not been able to contribute fruitfully to Wikipedia. So, kudos! On a related subject, I would like to suggest some improvement to the app from the viewpoint of a Wikipedia user who works entirely on the app. here are some of the suggestions that come to my mind now. I will update the list if I remember any more.

  1. Userpage accessibility: I would like to access my userpage from the left hand side menu.
  2. Notifications: I would like to access my notifications from inside the app.
  3. Built in edit history: It would be easier if I could access the page edit history from inside the app.
  4. Disconnected from Wikipedia Zero notification: Only if this notification appeared in the same place the "This page is semi-protected" message is shown. I rely on Wikipedia Zero which is provided by Umniah here, and I tell you, they are misers. My connection breaks and reconnects about 3 times a second, so the notification becomes very irksome.
  5. Article Marker: As a guy who opens up about 53 tabs in the same time, it becomes irritating when an article starts over from the beginning when I switch from and to it, especially with long articles. If you can include a "bookmark" feature on articles to mark the line I am reading for later, life will become 53 times easier.
  6. Editing screen: Can the editing screen become part of the tab? I would love to switch between articles while editing, as my usual work here is translating English articles to Arabic.
  7. Preview: In an editing screen, there should be a "Save" button besides "Next". When I correct typos, I do not want to preview my edits before I publish them, especially that my (free) internet offer for Wikipedia is very slow and sluggish (thanks Umniah) and I would love to spare the minute of waiting that the app spends on fetching the preview.
  8. Open in new tab: When I click on a hyperlink, a preview of the article is shown. I would love if the "Open in new tab" was more accessible, possibly in the place of the "read article" button, as clicking on the title does that job.
  9. Image size: The mobile app does not know the difference between 50px images and 300px ones. My userboxes, although they look fine in the app, looked diseasterous in the browser and I was none the wiser. Please fix.
  10. No section jumping when loading: The right hand menu is a very great idea, but it faces a problem in long articles. When the article is first opened, it loads and finishes displaying the text. Yet, another loading occurs after the text is diplayed (I do not know why, I am no programmer). The problem here is that the right hand menu becomes useless until the loading finishes (when the blue line reaches the end). This is very irksome and is very noticeable on long articles such as WP:MOS.
  11. Exceptions to hyperlink preview: Nearly all hyperlinks show a preview of the article when clicked on, but there are exceptions, namely "wikipedia:" and "help:" and "user:" pages, and most of the hyperlinks written in italics (Almost all hyperlinks linking to books and films and games are written in italics, which makes it difficult).
  12. The section hyperlinks never work: links such as Steve Jobs#Death never land me in that particular section.

Thank you in advance. Please, if you reply, use the {{ping|SammyMajed}} template. Thank you again.

Follow-up

nice update, a bit laggy, yes, but good overall. I am going to report bugs to you in the village pump. I noticed that the new reading list feature erased all my saved pages, which pissed me off provided that I saved over a hundred articles. Thanks;
 • Sammy Majed  • Talk  • Creations • Wikipedia Arabic  • 08:54, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for all the suggestions (and sorry for the delayed response)! Yes, please do report any bugs that you see, and ping my name so that I get notified. If I may ask: from which version of the app were you upgrading? The Reading List feature has been around for over a year. If you upgraded from a version earlier than that, it might explain why your previous saved pages weren't migrated properly. P.S. I like all your userboxes, and agree with 99.9% of them, except the one about Vegemite (speaking in a personal / non-official capacity). Dmitry Brant (talk) 18:31, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Dmitry Brant. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! – Juliancolton | Talk 16:59, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up! It looks like you were trying to add references to an IEEE journal, and also adding a reference to yourself as a Wikipedia author (?), but the IEEE references were not correctly formatted. To add a reference to a journal, you probably want to use Template:Cite journal, instead of just putting the raw reference text in curly braces. Black Pearl (disambiguation)

And don't slip in a minor reference at the end of a disambiguation page when the entire point is that: BIOLOGY --- this is why all these references make sense. Literally not doing your "job" here, the fact that they exist is *why* all of these other references exist.

Be better. It might be a really, really good reason for the edit you reflectively "undid".
