I removed your Signalling diagram: no labels and nothing about it in the text -- useless for an intro article. But please put it back with an explanation! "alyosha" (talk) 22:37, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, where are we, first year? The diagram is explained in lenght in the body of the article. It is not easy to understand visually unless you have a solid understanding of the mathematics and statistics (econometrics) that it requires and demonstrates. As long as each axis is lableled (and I even went so far as to give direct examples) it gives a clear illustration of the conditional variables and the system as a whole.

This isn't some high school test where you get marks for putting a title on your graph.

I took the time to draw that in MSPaint.exe(which sucks) and gave it free to the public domain along with creating the article itself. I had it proofread by a fellow Phd student, please, don't ever arbitrarily remove things that you don't understand. It's an insult to me, and you do a great disfavour to anyone who visits the page from now on.

Otherwise:

OK it IS terrible, so why don't you do us all a favour and replace it with a much better one. In fact this is what I would like to see. I'm sure a better one can be done but the knowledge contained therein is the only substance by which it should be judged.

First, there's no need to be insulting. Second, this article is for people who want to learn the basics of signalling (like me), not for people who "have a solid understanding of the mathematics and statistics (econometrics) that it requires and demonstrates". So your diagram may be terrific but it doesn't work for the audience. (Some of WP appears to be down at the moment, but there are helpful documents re what WP is for as a general reference encyclopedia.) Third, i think it's great that you created it, and don't mean to disparage that. Fourth, i don't need to (be able to) create a better diagram to see that this one is unexplained. Fifth, if you look at all the textbooks you learned from, you'll see that they explain what the terms/abbreviations in such diagrams stand for. They *never* leave the terms a mystery, as you have. This doesn't mean your diagram isn't good in a lot of ways -- just that as a helpful addition to an introductory article, it's incomplete.
I'm a very tolerant editor. I give my service/thanks to WP by making quick and easy and obvious changes. For this reason i am very seldom reverted. Other people quite justifiably remove material that fails to meet higher standards, but i defer more to the authors, as i'm happy to do in your case. But for now, there's no question that your diagram is unexplained. Undefined terms are not acceptable in an introductory context, be it an encyclopedia or textbook. To repeat in conclusion: no offense intended, and i honestly think it's great that you went to the effort. I'd be happy to see your diagram stay. Please just add definitions/explanations for "W*" and "C(h)" and so forth, and i'll be content. As a gesture of respect, and since you are clearly attached to your contribution, i'm making the request here before editing the article again. February 2014[edit]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Signalling (economics) may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • :Person<sub>(credential)</sub> <big>=</big> ''<big>E</big>''(Productivity <big>|</big> Cost<sub>(credential)</sub> <big>≤</big> Person<sub>(credential)</sub> -
  • :Person<sub>(no credential)</sub> <big>=</big> ''<big>E</big>''(Productivity <big>|</big> Cost<sub>(credential)</sub> <big>></big> Person<sub>(credential)</sub> -

Thanks Bracket bot - I erred and you caught it and I fixed it. (Yes I know I'm thanking a program)

Replaceable fair use File:EXEMCQ Trading Ends.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:EXEMCQ Trading Ends.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Train2104 (t • c) 00:04, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
