Orphaned non-free media (Image:Marilyn_Monroe_Look_Magazine_1952-09-09.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Marilyn_Monroe_Look_Magazine_1952-09-09.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Coredesat 05:04, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Dear "Disavian", while you changed the template, the logos of all sports teams was losed on the wiki-site. Now, it's all right. Regards from Dresden —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.95.143.150 (talk) 09:25, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Characters in Mellow Mushroom

Hi Disavian, It looks like you removed a section regarding "Characters" on the Mellow Mushroom wikipedia entry. Do you mind explaining why this was removed? Please consider this a polite tone. It seems you're an experienced contributor to this wiki and I'd like to learn from this particular edit. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.97.51.216 (talk) 03:56, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

It didn't really tell the reader about Mellow Mushroom, and wasn't really written well. I could see having a couple sentences in the article that say that the chain uses characters, but going into too much detail doesn't enhance the reader's understanding of the topic. Also, it's difficult to cite that section, as not much is written by reliable sources about Mellow Mushroom's characters (as far as I know). —Disavian (talk/contribs) 04:59, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

I wrote an article on one of the buildings they designed, which is why I noticed the article's deletion. I was/am hoping to find enough content to write a decent (neutral/non-advertising/asserts notability/referenced) stub on them. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Georgia Tech Gym.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Georgia Tech Gym.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:39, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

LOTD proposal

You have nominated a recently successful WP:FL. There have been two recent proposals to begin a List of the Day feature on the main page, which have both received majorities but have not been approved as overwhelming support sufficient to change the main page. WP:LOTDP is a new proposal to try to get the ball rolling based on the original proposal. You can voice your thoughts on its talk page. Basically, what the proposal entails is attempting to run an official trial, and then vote after the trial run on whether to change the main page. Support to run a trial requires much less consensus than support to change the main page. Should we succeed at eventually getting such a feature on the main page it would tentatively look like this. Whether or not you support an experimental trial or not you should come discuss the matter at WP:LOTDP's talk page. I apologize if you have either already voiced your opinion on this matter or already tired of hearing about it.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 21:37, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Featured List of the Day Experiment

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:37, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Future energy

Future energy development is a deprecated article. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. All of future energy development is being merged into Energy development. Neither makes any mention of the Dyson sphere, which is why the see also was deleted. 199.125.109.57 (talk) 04:35, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, the idea originated from the Malthusian concepts of increasing resource use, so there is somewhat of a connection to that particular section. Would changing the link from future energy development to energy development be slightly better? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 07:47, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Tagging of Phil Rosser

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Phil Rosser. I do not think that Phil Rosser fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because There is a calim of notability (subject came 4th in large tournament). I request that you consider not re-tagging Phil Rosser for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page.  – Tivedshambo (talk) 08:01, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

I didn't retag it for speedy, although I did place it up for AfD, at which point it was speedied anyway. You'll want to take that up with User:Caknuck. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 08:03, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
My mistake - I may have put this warning on the wrong user, though as it's been deleted I can't check the history. I won't contest the speedy, as it's almost certainly a hoax (no references in Google to Phil Rosser and tennis). – Tivedshambo (talk) 08:12, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Following that comment, I found the history in my cache - you did use the speedy tag {{db|CSD A7}}. – Tivedshambo (talk) 08:16, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I meant that I hadn't re-tagged it as speedy; when I saw that you'd untagged it, I wasn't about to retag it as a speedy deletion. Instead, I was taking it to AFD. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 08:18, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

No offense intended, but I really do think the AfD was never opened, rather than it being an obvious snowball keep. However, the question of whether we should include AfD's started by banned users in the talk page header section is another one, which I don't know how to answer, or even where to ask. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 18:34, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, it was a pretty obvious bad-faith nom, and as such there was no point in continuing the AfD discussion. Assuming that I was going to close it, what should I have closed it as? "speedy close as bad faith nom"? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 18:41, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Probably "speedy close as never having tagged the article". Normally, if the nom is in good faith, even if I don't agree with it, I'd just tag the article, but I have close improperly modified AfD's before; for example, once I nominated article A, and someone else adds article B to the nomination, but without adding the proper links from article B to nomination A. I just removed B from the nomination, as if (for most purposes) it had never been. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 18:56, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks! Is the custom to reply where the comment was left, or on the other person's talk page? (I'm doing both) Ivey (talk) 04:52, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Usually both. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 06:31, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Nerys

Before you revert any more cleanups of surname and given name pages, please familiarize yourself with the guidelines. Per MoS:DP, "Pages only listing persons with certain given names or surnames who are not widely known by these parts of their name otherwise are not disambiguation pages, and this Manual of Style does not apply. In such cases, do not use {{disambig}} or {{hndis}}, but {{given name}} or {{surname}} instead". The page Nerys does not qualify as a disambiguation page, and this is reinforced by WP:D#Lists. Also, another user found a lot of useful real-world notability, now if you'd help me merge this information into the article, and then I'm gonna withdraw my nomination and we can remove the in universe tags. I think I got it all fixed, let me know if there's anything else that needs to be corrected. My bad.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:11, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I see you've been disambiguating the {{fiction}} template into different {{in-universe}} templates, and did so for the Three Kingdoms articles as well. However, I think you are confused. Originally, the fiction template on those articles does not mean that they are portraying fiction in an in-universe style, but actually that the article literally "fails to distinguish between fact or fiction", or, in clearer terms: the article confuses the actual historical events of the Three Kingdoms (190-280) with those of the novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I hope you can make the necessary changes to the template, thanks. _dk (talk) 05:18, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

I can see the problem here, and I agree that {{In-universe/Three Kingdoms}} could do with some rewording. Hmm... Okay, I worked on it, how's that? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 05:28, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
This is much better, thank you :) _dk (talk) 05:38, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
There seem to be a lot of those articles... I've only gotten through D, and the category is already somewhat large. How many of them are really notable? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 05:40, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, there are about 1190 characters in the novel...so it's expected that there will be many of these articles. In terms of notability, some people are of the opinion that anyone who had their names and life mentioned in detail in historical text is notable. So this is the result. It just so happens that the Three Kingdoms period is one of the most famous periods in Chinese history, so this time period gets so much detail compared to others. _dk (talk) 06:07, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Star Trek mergers

Hi, thanks for your comment about my draft article on regions of space. I'm getting quite practised at mergers, and suddenly realised that that was the best way to save Delphic Expanse, especially as Briar Patch and Neutral Zone are lists already - then I saw that Badlands had also been nominated at AFD, so that clinched it.

Fancy adding any screen caps of Briar Patch etc?

Speaking of mergers, I've merged more info about Sito Jaxa into "Hard Time" & the N-S List now, and think it can be redirected; do you agree? RSVP at Talk:List of Star Trek characters: N-S#Merger of Sito Jaxa. - Fayenatic (talk) 18:52, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

I'd like to keep her picture on WP; as long as we stick that in at least one article where her character is discussed, I'll be happy :) —Disavian (talk/contribs) 20:18, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Her picture as Jaxa is on Shannon Fill; is that enough for you?
I wonder whether we could also add Gallery sections to the Lists of ST Characters. - Fayenatic (talk) 18:00, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
I was thinking we could do something similar to my featured lists, List of Georgia Institute of Technology alumni and List of Georgia Institute of Technology athletes, where you have the images on the right at 100px. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 20:50, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
That would certainly connect with the text better. I note that List of Star Trek characters: A-F, G-M and T-Z have already been formatted as tables; just N-S is left to do. There is a spare column on the left which was designed for pictures. Meanwhile, I've just dropped her picture in on the right, and linked her name to Memory Alpha using the old method (it will become explicit when tabulated). OK to merge now? - Fayenatic (talk) 19:26, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

AFD closure

Thanks for watching out for me on my first AFD closure! - Fayenatic (talk) 19:06, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

No problem. :) Even experienced admins get that one wrong. I take it you know about the templates {{at}} and {{ab}} as listed on Wikipedia:Deletion process? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 19:27, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, I found those and subst'ed them. I hadn't found the "process" page though, so thanks for that. I've now added the oldafd template on the talk page as required there, although it seemed a bit unnecessary in this case as I had linked to the AFD discussion in the page history. - Fayenatic (talk) 19:41, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Halfbacks

Thanks for the heads-up. I looked at running back and Halfback (American football) and linked the latter to the former as a hatnote in the halfback section. One could make the case for a merge too, I guess. --AndrewHowse (talk) 19:17, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Wraith of Khan - themes

I have removed the themes section again, in regards to sourcing, the onus is on those wishing to include material not those who wish to remove unsourced material - that is a fundamental aspect of wikipedia. If you have sources, re-add it, otherwise it is original research and should not be added. I'll not get into an edit war about the matter but will pull in additional editors to examine the situation if you re-add the material without sources - and ultimately, no sources means that it will be once again be removed. --Fredrick day (talk) 13:34, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

I have placed the article you nominated for Good Article status, Louise Glover, on hold. Please see the talk page for my concerns. Cheers, CP 23:04, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

FSU Article

Thanks for the help with the FSU article. I haven't had much time lately to work on the article, except to keep it from being vandalized. I would like to start work once again to push it to FAC level quality, so your input is appreciated. Sirberus (talk) 00:01, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Why did you remove the NHMFL logo from the FSU article? It is fair use to associate that logo with the article; especially since FSU gave me the logo with explicit permission for such use. Please put it back. Thanks! Sirberus (talk) 03:53, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

I didn't really think that it fit well in the section, but if you'd like to put it back, feel free. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 22:21, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Why didn't you just say that, then? Your posted reason was that it was an illegal use of a logo. Regardless, I appreciate your efforts to improve the article. Please feel free to participate further in the improvement of the article. I will see if the logo fits somewhere; please let me know what you think if it appears once again in the article.Sirberus (talk) 02:30, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

UF Wikipedia Project

Hey I was hoping if you could help me out with the coding for WikiProject University of Florida. Thanks! jccort 01:13, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Were you thinking of something complex like WikiProject Georgia Tech, or were you going to start simple? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 03:07, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I want UF's Wikipedia Project to be like the Georgia Tech Project. I need to recruit people I guess. I was hoping that you might have some advice on how this project should be facilitated. Thanks! jccort —Preceding comment was added at 06:54, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, feel free to borrow code from the GT project; most university projects are based on code I borrowed from somewhere else. I'll be a little busy over the next week, but if I have time I'll help you a bit with the coding, etc. My primary method of recruiting members has been to invite editors of related articles with talk page templates such as {{Invite User GaTech}}, {{Welcome User GaTech}}, {{Welcome Anon GaTech}} etc. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 07:35, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

As a current or past contributor to a related article, I thought I'd let you know about WikiProject University of Florida, a collaborative effort to improve Wikipedia's coverage of University of Florida. If you would like to participate, you can visit the project page, where you can join the project and see a list of open tasks and related articles. Thanks!

Well, that's a good first try, but I've got some suggestions: you should subst it when you use it, so that the signature works; and you can't use a logo on it, as those are only allowed in mainspace. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 03:24, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
