Don Chandler

I didn't notice you removed the death notice from another user. I just added it myself. However, Don Chandler's grand son has confirmed his death on Twitter. Not sure if that counts or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rkrizan (talkcontribs) 17:04, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Editing and Removing my Wiki Page

Hello, I saw that you provided some information about that page that may have partially led to it's removal. I would like to confirm some things and hopefully you can help me get this page back.

In fact, I never knew how my page was originally posted and never did anything to make it happen other than work my tail off and win a bunch of football games.

First, I AM a UF graduate from the College of Jm and Comm on March 21, 1970. I received a BS in ADV at that time. I also hold a M. ED. from the University of Arizona (1971). I am very honored to be a UF grad, fan and I have many friends from that era of my life. It said on my "page removal" that I am not listed on the UF Alumi info but they seem to find me all the time for requests for funds and to go on cruises, etc. as a former alum. Also, I get the Communigator Magazine several times a year. These are only sent to UF Jm School alum's.

Whoever started saying that I was anything else but a "walk-on" or was ever listed on a roster never asked me...and I have never claimed that I was any kind of "athlete of impact". However, I did try to play, and parlayed the information that I learned by becoming a punching bag, and later an "intern" of sorts (yes, a gopher), into a "Hall of Fame" coaching career. All I have ever wanted to do was help young kids and use sports as the incentive and motivator.

In my last 14 years of HS coaching, my teams were in the Final Four 13 times (winning the AZ state title in 90, 92, and 98, and taking the horrible teams that I took over to championship level programs, helping many young athletes to college, out of poor family situations, and into productive lives. I was the first ever football coach at Pima College here in Tucson (we beat the defending national champion, Glendale College AZ in our inaugural game, and defeated Kilgore College of Texas on national TV as a huge underdog in my last game before I retired in 2004 as the #5 team in the nation) and much of this happened because I was willing to learn the game from the inside as a walk-on...yes, not very good either.

I have done 8 DVD's for companies on a variety of football subjects, including helping youth football coaches learn the game that I love so much. Also, I have spoken at literally hundrerds of coaches clinics (for almost no pay) just to help promote the game. Currently, I am retired from teaching/coaching but I am still the Head Coach for the Global Bowl Football Game (Team Stars and Stripes). This is an exhibition game played in a host city somewhere in the world (Kawasake City JP, Paris, Munich...this year Rome) that helps show off the hard-working, academic oriented, true American student-athlete, and promote American Football (as they all call it) around the world.

Wikipedia has truly helped me with Youth Coaches, Foreign Coaches, and it just looked good. Being dropped because I am not important is fine...I've lived with stuff like that forever. But being dropped because someone didn't look well enough to find out about my academic/coaching/helping kids background just isn't fair.

I can see from you academic background that you are very well educated and therefore understand "fairness". I would appreciate your help in setting the record straight about someone who has done nothing in his career but help motivate students, educate kids.

If your still in Atlanta, one of my best friends is a highly respected businessman there. Allen Soden is a HUGE UF Alum, was my frat president, and knows all about me. He has followed my career closely, as have many of my UF friends. Too see the posting about "finding no evidence" of my football career is obvious, but to say that I didn't graduate is insulting.

I ask for your fairness and reconsideration. I am a good guy, who works hard, and is VERY proud of what I was able to do with my career (by the way, I was supposed to go to UF Law School also but gave that up to become a teacher-coach, starting in Little 5 Points at Moreland School...remember that area.

Sorry for rambling, but this is important to me and Wikipedia has been very good for people wanting to know more about me.

Auburn–Florida football rivalry

Hi Dirtlawyer1, thank you for the detailed explanation of your revision and the history of the University of Florida around that time. I had missed the fact that Florida Agricultural college was known as the University of Florida for essentially that one year; that clears it up. However, with regard to the game being a practice game, API's annual for that year clearly states that it was (at least from their perspective), along with another game against a team referred to as Montgomery. Please check it out: "API Glomerata 1905, p182".

Also, let me take this opportunity to thank you for all the work you've done on this article. When I came across it last weekend, it was in poor shape and flagged for deletion – as you know. It did not even have the game listing that I expected to find. As an Auburn alumnus and a fan of the Gators from my youth in Florida, I did not want the article to be deleted and decided to get involved to try to rehabilitate it. But there is a lot to learn as a new editor on wikipedia. As such, I am pleased to have your (more experienced) involvement and have followed your changes with interest. The article has come a long way. Thanks again. Respectfully, Rgessner (talk) 09:03, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
