Edward Scissorhands[edit]

Hello, I see you're new here. I'm aware you're fond of my work on the E.T. article, but not every article has to be a clone. If you want to add images, make sure they're not redundant, (posters are often used to kill many birds with one stone when it comes to illustrating the whole article). My suggestion is to find images that really help the encyclopedic understanding of the reader. See Fight Club for example.

Some tips is to please remember to sign your comments, by clicking that button under the edit box, and also fill in the edit summary if you're starting major edits. I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia. Alientraveller (talk) 12:01, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrighted images[edit]

Please do not add copyrighted images to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did on Winona Ryder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images borrowed from other web sites, printed material, films, or other sources; such additions will be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously. Note that Wikipedia policy does not allow use of a non-free image on the page of a living person. Thank you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:ET_Moon.jpg is not used in a biographical article of a living person. The only ways copyrighted images can be used are when permission is obtained from the copyright owner, or if use of the image falls under the "fair use doctrine". For more details about fair use, read WP:NFC. One of the provisions of fair use is that "non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created." A biographical article about a living person rarely qualifies for fair use because there is always a potential free image (i.e., as long as the person is alive, there is a potential that a free image could exist). That's why you rarely see images in the articles of living celebrities unless the photo was taken by the person who added it, or permission was obtained from the copyright holder. The copyrighted images that you do see in such articles usually were placed there for the same reason that you placed copyrighted photos in Winona Ryder, but they just haven't been removed yet.
