Vandalism from your shared IP address[edit]

Deepak, I saw your report that somebody has been vandalising articles from your shared academic Web proxy. I suggest that you take this up with your IT department at your university, who will, in all likelihood, have detailed logs of web activity, including details of what account and machine were used to make the edits, and thus be able to make the vandalism stop. -- Karada 14:53, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Reversions in "Hindu" Article[edit]

Hello Deepak,

You don't get my point: The section "Religion for the Common Hindu" is CRITICAL to the Hindu article, because it should talk about what faith and religion mean to the common Hindu.

If by any chance this is covered in the Hinduism article, then it should be scrapped off there, because that should simply be about religion, not its followers, especially if you have a special section for them.

The core point is we WikiHindus have done a bad job for ourselve. Hinduism has the poorest coverage in this encyclopedia.

Template:PD-IndiaGov[edit]

Hoi Deepak,

The template {{PD-IndiaGov}} that you created claims that images from Indian government websites are public-domain. I'm not sure why you think so, and I've brought up the matter at Wikipedia talk:Copyright problems. I'd appreciate it if you could shed some light on it over there. Thanks. -- Eugene van der Pijll 15:42, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Images and fair use[edit]

Hi, Copyrighted artistic images such as that which you placed on Epic poetry are copyright violations. Fair use could only apply to images of that nature if they were being used in an article or section of commentary about the image. So there is a fair use case for the image of Guernica (painting) (that image is too large, but that is another issue). But not a picture of a scene from mahabharata to decorate Epic. Does that make sense? Ask me if you have any questions Zeimusu | Talk page 13:03, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Would such a picture be a copyvio in the Mahabharata page

That is a closer call. Probably it would be hard to defend fair use in a court case. However the creators of such images are often keen to encourage wide distribution and may well look favourably on request to licence under the GFDL. Or there must be public domain art of scenes from Mahabharata. Ok I was searching for some but found none. On the other hand Indra Sharma google is notable and deserves an article... I'm digressing. I'd say it's best to try to licence the image, or replace it, especially if you want to be careful. Thanks for your care Zeimusu | Talk page 00:35, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to lay down the law here - I'm not a lawyer, I'm not even a wikipedia admin. The image is probably copyrighted. There are probably public domain images which could replace it. On balance I think replacement is best. Otherwise it would need a detailed fair use claim, which you would have to make - read Fair use. If you think this isn't worth the effort then delete the image. Zeimusu | Talk page 09:35, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

your sig[edit]

Is your signature pointing to your talk page "वार्ता" supposed to be Baat? =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:47, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"वार्ता" (pronounced as Warta) means dicussion. The Hindi Wikipedia site translates User talk: as "सदस्य वार्ता:" (सदस्य means member/user). You must be wondering how come I know Hindi so well even though Ive hardly lived in India. Well, I had taken Hindi as foreign language. Cheers --Deepak|वार्ता 19:05, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

intro paragraph[edit]

Listen deepak, the material added by you completely removes the subject away from the simple definition the paragraph had before and makes it very redundant (mentioning 1989 more than once). I only reverted intro paragraph edits before by reddi before to make it back into a version which was agreed upon. Now the paragraph has become nothing but an attempt to bold terms and not give a clear definition of the issue. I even compromised and added a bolded statement of yours to the intro.

But you still reverted. A definition of insurgency does not need to be in the article and this revert seems unnecessary. There are pages on wikipedia which have dozens of redirects to them, but that does not mean that each definition of every term that redirects needs to be given. Whatever the title is, is the main intro subject of the article, including the only bolded term. Hope you understand. --a.n.o.n.y.m t 00:48, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I should also add that the way you worded the paragraph makes it sound like the only people ever killed are by the insurgency; you and I know that's not true and the way you phrased it is pov. We have been through this before. Please clarify what exactly you find wrong with the paragraph before reverting again. I will be happy to discuss this with you. Thanks --a.n.o.n.y.m t 00:52, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok. I get your point. All I wanted was a brief description of the term Kashmiri insurgency in the intro para since Kashmiri insurgency redirects to Terrorism in Kashmir. --Deepak|वार्ता 04:19, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. :) --a.n.o.n.y.m t 04:21, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

    A "Spirituality" portal[edit]

    Hi Deepak, gupta,

Some editors have been discussing the possibility of creating a “Spirituality” portal. What do you think of the idea? RichardRDFtalk 14:51, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I am working on an article on the History of Rupee. Your comments and/or help will be highly appreciated! deeptrivia 05:03, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, just noticed your edit on the above. You mentioned that the armed forces started modernization in 90's, but probably a typo, you typed it as in early in late 90's. didn't change it as I wasn't sure if it was early 90's or late 90's. thought I shd inform you so that you can make the necessary correction. btw, I just noticed that the anon IP 70.X.X.X has contacted you about the "Hindu" article. He claims to be User:Nirav.mauya but doesn't sign-in with his id. He has either started or contributed massively to Indian Muslim Nationalism, Indian nationalism, Hindu nationalism, Hindutva, Gandhism, Mahatma Gandhi, Hindu Rashtra, Criticism of Hinduism, Hindu, Hinduism, Contemporary Hindu movements, Narhari Parikh, Ravi Shankar Vyas, Mohanlal Pandya, Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha. Previously, his edits used to be POV, now it is more a case of original research (WP:NOR), imo. I've not been able to convince him to sign-in and engage in constructive debate, nor hv I been able to go through all his edits. Yet, I'm just maintaining a log of articles that he is contributing to, 'coz I want to give him some more time. I felt you may be interested in having a look at these articles. Thanks, --Gurubrahma 06:05, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deepak, thanks for adding the articles to your watchlist. Nirav.maurya used to sign previously with four ~'s, now he doesn't even log in (I can't be sure tho, since the anon IP claims to be Nirav.maurya but it can be any Tom, Dick or Harry). --Gurubrahma 08:03, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

    Images[edit]

Yeah, that's right if you mention about the subject of the images. The Gumpa dance is part of the celebrations of Losar, which is a big Buddhist festival in Sikkim. We don't have any images of other NE Indian states, so I would prefer that this would stay. (We always tend to ignore NE India in the media, and it would be great if a pic on the culture of a NE state be present). Any suggestions for replacement for the rest? Those maps are ok. The world location is standard, and so is the subdivisions one. Ideally the map should be .svg one, but I don't have the time to draw one. Bin Qasim[edit]

There was no atrocities committed by Muhammad bin Qasim. Please see the talk page of the said article. Most of the later story's of Bin Qasim were of a mythological and legend tales told in India, about the atrocities particularly by Hindu extremists. You yourself can find this out by going to the reference I made on the talk page, it's pretty comprehensive.

Hi Deepak, I see that the map of SAARC member states was created by you. Yesterday Afghanistan became a member state, so now a new map is needed. Krishna page and images[edit]

Hello. I see you have put that image back where it was at the top. The problem is with two boxes at the top of the page, (the image and the Indic text). I don't know what you see, but I assure you that on some systems it is quite unusable. On a 1024x768 display with Mozilla, the uppermost text is squeezed into a narrow left strip. On a 800 x 600 display, there are only images at the top of the page, and the user has to scroll down to see any text. Which is (as I remember) against standard practice, if not policy. I suggest that whatever more productive action you can think of be taken immediately. Moving the image lower down the page, might be a simple solution. Imc 10:21, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Further to the recent question on other pages, I see similar problems on those pages you mention as well. My original comment was made while using Mozilla and IE6 on Win2000 at 1024x768, and with a check at 800x600. I also see the same problem now, using Mozilla on Linux at higher res, but in windows of smaller size (if that makes sense). Imc

    Hello[edit]

Good edits to the Kashmir page. However, I don't know whether Pakistan claims that entire Kashmir belongs to it, similar to how India believes it should be a state. Do you have a source? Thanks. --a.n.o.n.y.m t 20:32, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deepak. I have a question for you. Are images with a {{no source}} tag are automatically considered for deletion at the end of 7 days? re:barnstar[edit]

    Hello Deepak,

Your barnstar award to me means a helluva lot. Its my first, I am very grateful. But there are two issues regarding my time here, that speaking man-to-man, might make you wanna re-consider giving me this award:

    (1) I have had an ugly dispute in Oct-Nov with user:Gurubrahma. You might not agree with my POV on those issues or the anger I displayed. (2) I've been making edits on Wikipedia mostly since sometime last summer, I believe, with a former ID of Nirav.maurya, and with some anon ips, before I decided to re-organize and define myself.

I absolutely do not seek to be dramatic about this, but I'm giving you the freedom to re-consider this award. It would be absolutely fine by me if you choose to revoke it, since I know that you respect my work, which means a lot.

I'm sorry to have to make a meal out of this, but please consider these issues. The disputes and id issues don't mean anything to me, and I admit them freely, but above all I wouldn't want you thinking later I didn't act in good faith.

    Jai Sri Rama!
