Broomball at Michigan Tech

It has been suggested that Broomball at Michigan Tech be merged into the broomball article. Is there anything you can do to substantiate Broomball at Michigan Tech's notability? Mjf3719 (talk) 13:29, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I would agree that Broomball at Michigan Tech should be merged to either broomball or Michigan Tech. While it certainly is a big deal at da Tech, it's not particularly notable. Broomball is an IM sport at many other universities (I've played it at three others myself). -- dcclark (talk) 16:09, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Where did the copper come from?

I notice in your latest edit of Copper mining in Michigan that you changed the wording to read that the Calumet Conglomerate had been worked out when UOP bought the company in 1968. The question then arises: from where were the miners extracting the copper until they went on strike later that year? I was going to school there in the early 1970s, when Homestake Mining began dewatering the Tamarack shaft (I think it was) to evaluate the workings. Was Homestake unaware that the conglomerate had been worked out? Your info might have saved them the trouble! I suspect that you may be erroneously assuming that the orebody was completely exhausted. Plazak -- I was referring to the fact that C&H had closed all of its original workings on the conglomerate by that time. I suppose that it is too broad to say that the entire conglomerate bed was worked out -- we still don't know that today. Although as I recall, nothing ever came from the various Homestake explorations... -- dcclark (talk) 03:35, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

OK, I clarified those edits to say that the original mines (i.e. the great Calumet, Hecla, and South Hecla shafts) had been abandoned. But certainly by the late 60's, C&H was only actually extracting ore from Ahmeek, Kingston, and a couple others, none of them on the Calumet conglomerate. -- dcclark (talk) 03:40, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

One last comment -- Homestake dewatered several shafts in the 70's, but I don't think the Tamaracks were ever cleared out. There was Centennial (supposedly an offshoot of the Conglomerate at depth) and Mesnard at Quincy. -- dcclark (talk) 03:45, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Two-course pasties

Hi - I am not a Wikipedia contributor except that I provided photos of the two-course pasty to someone in New Zealand and he put them on the Pasty article.

I run the web site called " The Cornish Pasty & Pastypaedia The Cornish Pasty & Pastypaedia", and I have several pages there about pasties with "afters", as my mother used to call them. I have also made them (I am now 66 yrs. old, and male).

I recently added a new web page about the commercial version: Morrisons Tin Miner Pasty - sold in supermarkets.

I am merely pointing out that these pasties are real and have been all my life - they are not make believe!

I have to apologise for the guy who realised late that "you are a Yank", also for his spelling and grammar!

What is your PhD about? Mine was "Cryogenic fixation for electron microscopy" (short title), in 1991.

PS - I saw something about Devon vs Cornwall and comment that the Mayflower sailed from Plymouth, Devon, UK. This is true, but only after the ship put in for repairs to storm damage. It actually sailed from Southampton!
