Question

I wonder if it would help if we create a page on WP:WikiProject Equine for "Equestrian women in red"?? Maybe Montanabw, now a famous author, can weigh-in here. We could also solicit help from Rosiestep and Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red once we get our project page established. I'm thinking maybe create a table that includes Hall of Fame/World Champion/Top Breeders/Racing Champions female equestrians/breeders in the AQHA, NCHA, NRHA, APHA, and so forth. The same for Rodeo, although Barrel racing is dominated by women but it wouldn't hurt to create a table for it, too. There should also be something similar for Arabians, Hunter-Jumpers, American Saddlebreds, and various other notable breeds/disciplines where we may find women in red. As each article is created, it turns blue in the table. :-) Give it some thought over the holidays, if that's even possible, and then we can get a fresh start on it after the New Year. Hi Atsme, I will absolutely take some time to digest this. Are you actually meaning to create a redlist or just an article? Either way, I don't recall if I told you about the rodeo for woman redlist that exists now. megalibrarygirl created the shell, and I have been populating the list. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Rodeo. It does sound like a good idea in theory. It could be jolly good fun if we plan it well. I know, Christmas tomorrow! If you would like a Listeria-generated Wikidata list of notable women related to the subjects you mention (equestrians, breeders, Rodeo, Barrel racing, etc.) (vs. the "crowd-sourced" rodeo list, which is a great list!), and if you need assistance with that, you could write a note on the Women in Red talkpage, and someone who has the tech skills would be able to assist. Atsme Hey, it's been awhile. Many people have responded to your question, including myself, and I thought we might hear from you after the New Year was over. I have less time available to edit now, but I am still happy to work on this with you. Also, I wonder if you might know if I could get User:White Arabian Filly's user page frozen somehow since she has been on the Missing Wikipedians list over a year and her last edit was April 5, 2018. Rodeo Page Updates

Hello, Dawn. Happy New Year! I wanted to let you know that I will be updating certain things on some rodeo pages. I will be updating a few parts in the Equipment section of the Bull Riding page, as well as updating the International Professional Rodeo Association page. The International Finals Rodeo moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma this year, and it’s important that it’s mentioned. I will also be adding a bit of information in the History section of the Professional Bull Riders page, as well as adding last year’s Canadian Professional Rodeo Association champions. Finally, I will be adding information to pages of certain bull riders in regards to their usage of helmets. As you know, I don’t know how to cite information, and I would really appreciate it if you could cite where it applies when you have the chance. Thank You Very Much, Dawn! Uricarrillo94 Happy New Year! Always glad to have your content in the bull riding neighborhood. Even if citations are difficult for you, you are willing to work with me to get them added. I appreciate your bull riding knowledge for many reasons, but one is because it complements other editors' knowledge, especially mine. I will do my best to take care of citations for the areas you mentioned.
There are a few questions I have about the Canadian Pro Rodeo though. I have actually been collecting some sources for the 2019 champions yesterday and today. When you say you are planning to update them, do you mean you are going to add new tables for 2019 in same format as exists for the prior years at this article: Canadian Professional Rodeo Association under this section: "Champions and awards"? And if so, I have found the champions at this URL: [1]. But it doesn't yet include the "Stock of the Year" and the "Timed Event Horses." It has the CFR Stock of the Year in there, though. Do you have some other links that has the missing awards? I do not mind who updates the champions, me or you... I just want to be want us to be on the same page. Hello, Dawn. In regards to the CPRA, I was referring to the List of Champions page. I added the 2019 champions, except for the Rookie of the Year. I could not find it. I also did not add the 2019 Livestock Awards. I hope you can add them when you have the chance. Also, the National Finals Rodeo Page needs some fixing. I know for a fact that the steer wrestling picture on it is not of the NFR based on the background. The NFR is famous for its bright yellow arena. Hi Uricarrillo94. I will add the CFR stock. I don't have the other stock as stated in an earlier message. I don't have the rookie either. The association will eventually publish a more detailed web page that should have everything. Also, just a note on the list of champions page, the citations that are at the bottom of every list that start with <small> belong last in each list. I had to move each one. No worries, it went quick. Just a head up for next time. They are the source for all of the past champions that have been around long enough to be published in a more permanent fashion and don't need individual citations anymore. Thanks! Hey, Dawn. Thanks for letting me know about the NFSR page. It looks quite good. I did just a few fixings, if you don’t mind. Also, Dawn, I think it would be a good idea if the PBR international tour champions were added to the PBR’s list of champions page. The 2020 PBR Media Guide won’t be available for a while, so I’ll be using an older one that is still available. Speaking of the PBR, it would seem like a good idea to also show the old logo from the 90s on the PBR’s primary Wikipedia page. If you type Professional Bull Riders logo on Google, I’m sure you’ll find it fairly quickly. It’s round with a reddish background and with a bright white image of a rider and bull with “PBR” in the middle. “Professional” is at the top, “Bull Riders” is at the bottom, and a star on the left and right. The logo actually came in a handful of colors, but the red one is the most readily available. The logo was used from 1995-2000 to be exact. The current logo has been in use since 2001. Uricarrillo94 Hi, sorry so long on all of this, but I had a pretty busy couple of days. I found citations for some of the sources you added. Where I didn't find a source, I added the citation needed tag so we could continue to look for some. I think I've done everything you asked but the logo. I also added and made fixes to the canadian champions article and the prca champions article. Thanks for all of the fixes you've made to more articles than I can list, but especially to the NFSR article. Please mention anything if I missed it. Regarding the PBR logo, I don't understand why we want to replace the most current one with an older one? Is that right? Ok, and one last thing. Is something hinky going on when you leave messages on this page? There are ending up inside another editor's Christmag message when they should end up in here in this message at the bottom. Hello, Dawn. I totally understand if you’re busy with other things. I really appreciate your help when you’re available. In regards to the old PBR logo, I didn’t mean replace the newer one, but rather showcase the old logo as well. Perhaps in the PBR page’s History section. I did not notice that my messages are ending up in another editor’s page. If that is happening, I do not know why that is the case. I hope that editor is not upset. It’s not happening intentionally. Uricarrillo94 I investigated the placement of another logo in Wikipedia article Professional Bull Riders. There appear to be a few policies that make this impossible. Please see this policy: Wikipedia:Logos for more details. First of all, a company logo is added to an organization's article under a fair use policy. An outdated or secondary logo does not fall under fair use as it is obsolete. Second, the policy clearly states, with one exception, that logos must be placed in infoboxes. Obviously, we need the current logo in the infobox. However, feel free to peruse the logo policy yourself if you like. dawnleelynn(talk) 23:54, 11 January 2020 (UTC)

I thought it would be a good idea to showcase the old logo in the history section, considering the PBR is relatively young compared to other sport leagues. If it can’t be displayed, then it’s fine. Alberta Sports Hall of Fame

Would you be interested in helping to expand the list of inductees located at Alberta Sports Hall of Fame? I notice there are many articles which link to the Hall of Fame, but are not listed. Also, I think creating Category:Alberta Sports Hall of Fame inductees would be a good idea. Any thoughts? Flibirigit (talk) 21:28, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Flibirigit Hi there! I am interested in getting all cowboy halls of fame into Wikipedia. That sometimes includes sports halls of fame. Alberta has a lot of ties to rodeo so yes. I could definitely help in getting the articles listed in the "What links here" link listed in the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame. (And also completing my task of making sure "and Museum" has been removed from each.) However, the actual hall of fame website has their inductees page under construction Honored Members, so adding a hall of fame section or a hall of fame article would have to wait until it is finished. Depending on the size on the hall of fame page and whether each inductee has their own page, I usually make a decision whether to make it a section in the main page or have it be an inductees page. But I do not have a firm rule about it, if you felt strongly one way or another, I would go with that. dawnleelynn(talk) 21:52, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
The list would definitely be easier to put together when the Hall of Fame's web site is functional. I am comfortable including a person in the list so long as it is properly sourced on the individual's or team's own article. I'm not sure if a standalone list of inductees meets WP:LISTN for this Hall of Fame. I think it would be better to list on Alberta Sports Hall of Fame directly. Thanks for the WP:OCAWARD RFC

While we respectfully disagree on it, I really appreciate you proposing possible changes to WP:OCAWARD. I totally agree with Andy that our occasional disagreements are really more about the overall policy than specific CFD nominations. I worked with another editor to bring a consensus to update WP:OCEPON and I think it's one of the most lasting ways I've improved Wikipedia. (I also have tried and failed a couple times and to define how many articles are needed--2, 5, 10?--to not run afoul of WP:SMALLCAT but no luck on that one.) I have no idea how this will shake out but hopefully our neutral notices bring in some more people for a good conversation! RevelationDirect (talk) 11:25, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

RevelationDirect I noticed you originally tried to leave your message at Pigsonthewing's user page. If you saw that message there, then you know that RexxS helped me with the RfC. He's been doing this much longer. This is my first time. I appreciate your comments here. I'm always glad that we can disagree while staying courteous to each other. And apologize for perceived insults. I do think that reaching some agreement on an exception wording to the guideline would help going forward. I can imagine that you have dealt with all kinds of issues in your guideline proposals in the past. I, too, hope to see more interaction in the proposal.
Also, thank you for attempting to help on the Asian Football Hall of Fame AfD. I have spoken to another editor about it (offline) so they are protected. Apparently, men's sports and especially football (and soccer) are widely protected. There seems to be some kind of double standard. This editor commented they could think of several reasons the hall should be deleted. And saw some women's article over the last couple weeks that are eerily similar get deleted. So there you go. I hope nothing I've said discourages you from talking to other editors to collaborate and get advice. I never object to people working together to make the encyclopedia better, that's what Wikipedia is all about! (The only narrow exception would be WP:CANVAS where I've had people try to stack the iVotes in a nomination.) I was checking your edit history to see if there were any other AFD nominations related to my CFD noms and mistakenly thought that conversation was on your talk page.
From my perspective, WP:NSPORTS is a very lax approach to WP:NOTABILITY compared to the more general WP:GNG. Hopefully, that inclusiveness would be applied equally to both men's and women's sports but I haven't been involved in enough AFD nominations to know for sure.
I think I've said this before but, whatever our disagreements in the category space, I really appreciate your contributions in the article space, especially with helping to make Wikipedia more representative of women's accomplishments. RevelationDirect (talk) 12:58, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
I would never canvass, but am not surprised it has happened. That was my first and only AfD to date that I created. Of course I have contributed to others in the past. I will be staying out of men's sports from now on. Well, except rodeo.
I very much appreciate your comments about my article space. I started out writing bull articles, then wrote a few men's rodeo articles. But then I found out about Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red. So I started writing women in rodeo. I especially enjoyed the last three months of 2019, when I joined the Women in Red stub contest. I wrote 50 women stub articles, and then I expanded all of them. Well, some were not really rodeo that were from the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, like a couple horse breeders and showers, suffragette, rancher, painter, etc. I'm doing a few bull articles right now 1) because it's been a year since I did any and 2) because I waited five years for my favorite bull to win World Champion Bull so I'm doing his. But after that, I want to write some more women articles. Right now for Women in Red, the Continuing initiatives is #1day1woman / Sports! for 2020.

Hi Michamcc, I'm glad you stopped by. I can't ping you because you don't have a user page. I hope you check back later. I'm so glad you corrected the article. These older subjects are really hard to write articles about. There just isn't a lot of research about them out there. And they all seem to have lots of last names, and marriages. I would say you are welcome to work on the article some more, but I am not sure if it would be conflict of interest because you are related. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Just wanted to pop over here and thank you for your gnoming on the articles on Canadian barrel racers. I thought it bizarre that we have a whole list of national champions, all of which are lacking articles, soooo since we have women and animals for Women in Red this month, I'm working my way through some of them. SusunW That's so nice of you! I appreciate it. But seriously, you are doing a bang-up job overall. Sorry about putting the wrong country in the short description. Good catch. I also just remembered to tell you about this list List of Calgary Stampede Rodeo Champions, which is in my Lists of rodeo performers. It contains a barrel racing event list of champions for that rodeo. There are a lot of American winners; it's true, but there are some Canadian winners too, so you may want to check your subjects against that list. I've added your articles to my Watchlist; I do that with all rodeo articles. It's a small neighborhood right now so I watch over them all for vandalism and that sort of thing. If I think of anything else helpful, I will let you know. I am happy to see some more articles for women in Canada being added. Wrong country easy to fix, not knowing that template existed is harder, as it would require not only knowing about it, but being able to find it. ;) I picked the Canadian list solely because I figured more editors would work on the Americans and to do the Canadians requires subscriptions to newspapers.com and newspaperarchive.com--well at least so far it has. So I have a question which you may or may not be able to answer. Just finished writing up Isabella Miller (barrel racer). She was the 5-time All Around Cowgirl. [List of Canadian Rodeo Champions] lists none, which seems bizarre. On the other hand, it is clear that the women had to fight to be included in rodeo, so perhaps there isn't a list per se? The champion article seemed the place that it would fit best, as it doesn't necessarily indicate that they had to be tied to the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association. The women formed their own association in 1957, since they were excluded. Do you think it is worth adding All Around Cowgirl to the list? SusunW (talk) 19:53, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

It's called the Canadian Barrel Racing and Rodeo Association (formed 1961). The pre-cursor, of which Miller was a founder was the Canadian Girls' Barrel Racing Association (formed 1957). So, it seems to me that there should be records from 1957 forward. SusunW (talk) 20:32, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Before the WPRA in America, they had the Girl's Rodeo Association which got renamed to the WPRA. In Canada, they just had the Canada Girl's Rodeo Association the whole time; it's still active from what I can see and goes back over 60 years. Hi, I'm not finding a list yet. I need to take a break for a bit. I did find some other links for you though. This link Members explains at the bottom the name changes of the girls association. For Miller, it was the name you say it was at the time when she started barrel racing, but the name changed later a couple of times. Here's an article about some women who received the Calgary Stampede Pioneer Award Pioneers of Rodeo Award. Here's another one from the WPRA but mentions Duce and Miller receiving it as well. McRae to Receive Calgary Stampede’s Pioneers of the Rodeo Award. I sent them an e-mail, as I have realized that most of the newspapers are missing November (like numerous years with 6 or 7 papers for the whole month), which is when their banquets are held. I've made a start, and hopefully they will send me something. I also noted that this archive seems to be their chosen repository, but I cannot access anything on line except the finding aid. Yesterday, I saw the Glenbow site also seemed to be the repository for the history of the Canadian Senior Pro Rodeo Association but could get nothing from that either. Many Americans have won, but there are some Canadians, so you may want to check the list when creating articles. Guy Weadick. I kept running into sources about how they barred women, admitted them, barred them again, etc. and thought it was significant enough to include in the history. SusunW Thanks for the heads up. I actually created most of that article though. A newish rodeo editor created a draft and then asked me to help with it. I ended up writing most of it, and I update it with the rodeo champions each year now. In fact, I have either created or significantly enhanced all of the Canadian rodeo articles. I even created the Canadian rodeo series template in them. I also created the Rodeo template at the bottom of most rodeo articles, but it seems I wasn't consistent in putting it into the Canadian articles. It's about 75% American articles/25% Canadian articles. The rodeo neighborhood in its entirely is a relatively small and quiet one, so I have all of them on my Watchlist that I can find. I use the rodeo categories to follow them and monitor for new articles. Well, that's one way to monitor. Your research sounds interesting; I will definitely check it out. I just finished Rayel Robinson and am a bit confused by futurities. Not sure how that works or what is important to list about it. I'm thinking that it is an award for the horse, but obviously it impacts the career of the trainer. This article by Mankin is already cited in the article, but I didn't write anything about the futurities wins because I wasn't sure I understood it. This looks like she won a lot under both Robinson and Little with different horses, but again, I don't know how to judge what is notable. If you can assist, that'd be great and thanks! SusunW Okay, here's the short answer. I'll take a longer look tomorrow. I will have more time for editing over the holiday weekend. Barrel racing and futurities are not mutually exclusive. She didn't stop barrel racing to do futurities. She's doing barrel racing futurities. And she is doing the training in this event, not the riding. Put simply, futurities are competitions for young horses. As an aside, they also do futurities for young bucking bulls too. So, they do the competitions, and they win money. I think 2 to 3 sentences about the event is fine. In rodeo, it is not mentioned in a lot of detail usually. The source article you have on her futurities is a good one and provides plenty of detail if the reader wants more. dawnleelynn(talk) 01:16, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

I just wasn't sure if I needed to list those championships, as it appears she's won a lot of them and/or the horse names because every article I find about her as Little mentions that she trained this or that horse. Seems to me like a marker of notability, because other people winning on horses she trained seem to mention it. Halls of Fame inside the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

Hi,

Hope you're staying safe in these trying times. I see you reverted my category edits to one of the halls of fame on May 9th and then added the museum categories to the other two halls of fame as well.

There are several ways we can address this. One would be to merge all of the hall of fame articles into the museum article (since they are only a part of the larger museum). Another would be to leave them as separate articles (Perhaps as a List article), but remove the museum categories, since they don't appear to be separate museums. I haven't visited in person, though I'd love to in the future.

Reading the website, it appears they are annual awards given out at a gala, in some cases, represented by a placard on a wall in one of the exhibition halls. Another thought is to create a category for the museum and put all of the articles in there together (but still removing the museum articles from the halls of fame). You'll note that there are many many halls of fame, but they are listed in the Halls of Fame categories, rather than museums.

Thoughts?

Hi Dmadeo Yes, it is trying but doing okay. I hope you are staying safe too. Technically, I didn't actually revert your edits; I just added the categories back manually with an explanation. But I am happy to discuss further. I work mostly in the rodeo categories; I have them all watchlisted. I actually added the hall of fame inductees into two of three of this museum's halls of fame. There are only 3 halls of fame, but the page that lists them on the external website has 8 awards, 3 halls of fame and 5 actual awards. The idea of changing the existing halls of fame by combining them into the main one or or any such change that moves them is not one I'd prefer. You'd have to change all of the rodeo performer articles that link to those hall articles. If you become certain that is the way to go, then you'll have to be the one to do that. My home life situation changed this week, and I do not have as much time to edit on Wikipedia right now. The halls are part of the museum and they are physically part of the museum. There are artifacts and exhibits and such that are part of the museum, which is why I added the museum categories to the articles. I also added the museum logo to all of the articles, and the bot that checks for the fair use rationale was totally fine with that. Let me know what you think...I'll check back tomorrow. I did another cleanup of the museum categories and after looking at your comments, it seemed the easiest thing to do was to create a new category, just for the museum and move the halls of fame into it. Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.
