Welcome to wiki-freakin'-pedia

Since the welcome wagon missed you, let me cordially welcome you to Wikipedia.

Check out the various pillars o' wikipedia and so forth. I hereby warmly welcome you; you are thus summarily welcomed. Wachholder0 13:06, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

The Amish

I have been kicking around the Amish article for a great while, and, except for the final three subsections or so, I feel it is almost ready to be nominated as a feature article. However, I have neither the time nor the wikipatience to shepard it through the sometimes tedious process. Feel free to act as its champion if you wish; I will be glad to help make any changes suggested in the process. Thanks and good luck. Wachholder0

Vandalism

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits, such as those you made to Absinence, are considered vandalism. If you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the work of others. Thank you. -Slash-μιλώ 02:07, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the headsup. A visitor to my house used my logged-in computer to commit vandalism, and I've dealt with him. I apologize for his bad taste. A quick look at my contributions will show that I'm no vandal. DavidOaks 17:02, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Kvopera.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Kvopera.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:07, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for starting the article, I will copyedit, format and expand it later; if you don't mind? Poeloq 10:08, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Gang

What vandalism are you talking about? I removed the entire history section because is was a copyright violation, just cut and pasted from another website, see the talk page. Also, I pared down the excessive redundant EL section, it had gotten out of hand (as I posted in my edit summary.) See WP:EL, and WP:USER because it is perfectly acceptable to delete one's own talkpage. K1ng l0v3 16:51, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Reversion

I disagree with this revert. Please discuss this change with me on the talk page, perhaps we can come to agreement. Thanks in advance, Navou 04:27, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Stephen W. Thompson

Insert non-formatted text here

I'm hoping that you can help me. You deleted an item I submitted on Thompson, so I added a reason. But then Jonjonbt deleted that and asked for verification. I sent him a lot of information, but he still calls me a vandal. Can you look at his talk page to see our discussion? If not I can send you what I sent him. I think you can evaluate it because it appears that you know a lot about Missouri and, perhaps, West Plains.--Bobby Jim 18:24, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Stephen W. Thompson

Thanks, very much! As you can probably see, I have almost no experiance with Wikipedia. Except for documents I have, here's the only place I know to find his birthplace: Go to afhra.maxwell.af.mil and click on Personal Papers in the AFHRA, then click on T and finally on SWT.--Bobby Jim 02:09, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi David. I like your article on this topic; good summary -- congratulations! It has been flagged that it lacks references and could therefore be removed. I've tried to add some where I have them. Can you go back over it as well? Thanks!Brett epic 08:28, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Jospeh C. Porter

Hello, are you just going off of what Mudd wrote in his books for the history of Joseph C. Porter. Also, do you know anything about the history of the Battle of Hartville. We are a small church in Competition, MO. (Porter Chapel Church). We are wanting to know the history of our church, and our research so far shows that during the battle of Hartville the confederates pusehd the Union Army north towards Lebanon, MO. That is where we are. We do know that during the civil war, our church was used a confederate field hospital. Any info would be helpful.

you can email me at mdelcour@porterchapel.org

Thank You

Rumspringa

Hi David. I wrote some thoughts about my changes that you just undid on the Talk:Rumspringa page, I'd really like to help clean up that article but I'm also interested in working with you so they satisfy your needs. My research didn't convey that it was a factual part of the Amish tradition but that it was a factually observed phenomenon that is notable. So I wanted to both add useful citations as well as add higher quality details and improve readability for the article. Right now it's not very readable to me. Owlmonkey 06:08, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

I've edited the talk page some, with my proposed new introduction, but haven't seen any comments from you. Are you ok with the new introduction? or would you take a stab at some edits for it? Thanks Owlmonkey 07:25, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Awesome, just saw your comment on the talk page. I'll go ahead with the edit when I have some time soon. Thanks again! Owlmonkey 22:20, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
In rearranging a couple of the paragraphs for the new outline/sectioning I wasn't sure exactly how to order things without doing more editing to the pre-existing paragraphs. Would love your input or further editing with the new outline. Owlmonkey 22:33, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

I saw you removed the prod tag from the above article. Where are the sources? The only thing resembling a source is a mock interview on comedy central which still does not make the subject notable. KnightLago 01:35, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps I was too hasty. There is no crusade against this category. I simply wondered upon it and after looking at the articles did not think they met the notability requirement. I still don't think they really do, but if you think they are notable that is fine with me. I also encourage you to add the sources you have found to the articles. And maybe removing some of the self-published sources from some of these articles. KnightLago 02:37, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

It's Ok. Sorry, i was a little rude. 98.161.53.217 (talk) 03:21, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments on the Talk page. I didn't figure anyone was ever going to look in the history and see the deletions the other editor made after I worked so hard on sourcing, frequently within minutes of the material being restored. It was at a time when I was stressed out and I found I was getting too engaged in trying to get her/him to quit removing legitimate content, so I gave it up for the time being. I've now restored the info as you suggested — and agree totally as to the ill effects on Wikipedia if we allow this sort of bullying to become accepted — as well as editing the info, adding further sources, and adding different background info on Davis and her career. Your encouragement to keep the articles accurate and well-informed is appreciated. Lawikitejana (talk) 00:34, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Way to go -- I suspect the person interfering may have been the subject of the article. DavidOaks (talk) 01:24, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I'd doubt it ... while it's not unheard of, you'd be amazed how dedicated some fans are about pulling anything from a page they think besmirches their star's reputation (such as any mention of the fact that a specific celebrity's orientation is widely discussed — granted, it's an area in which one has to stay away from rumor, gossip sites, and irrelevancy, but for many stars, the discussion is so commonplace that totally omitting it from Wikipedia comes off as ludicrous). Davis herself comes off in virtually all public mentions of her response as not wanting people to exaggerate, but as not at all ashamed of participation in the charity event or of having flipped up her skirt, etc.; her publicist specifically mentions in at least one story the amount of money that was raised. Thanks for the support all the same! Lawikitejana (talk) 01:49, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Stephen W. Thompson

I hope that you can help me. You may recall that you suggested an article could be written about Thompson. You probably know that's been done. Today someone deleted all the references and categories. What would be a reason for that? I'm hoping that you can clear it up and perhaps fix it. Also please look at him in American aviators. I can't edit that page. Thanks Bobby Jim (talk) 18:30, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Stephen Thompson

Thanks, but when I click on the references nothing comes up. I can see them under Edit This Page, so they are there but I can't bring them up. Sorry to be such a bother. Under American Aviators his name is there, but also--First Aerial..... and I can't get rid of that. Also a question about West Plains. My father was told that his birth certificate was destroyed in a fire (explosion?) Was that the explosion in the article? If so, it might be worth mentioning that records were destroyed.

February 2008

Please do not add content without citing reliable sources, as you did to Brother Jed. Before making potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources please take this opportunity to add your reference to the article. Contact me if you need assistance adding references. Thank you. (per WP:V#Burden of evidence this also applies to restoring material) HrafnTalkStalk 03:00, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Per your edit summary in this edit: "use citation tags to identify more precisely what requires source", I suggest you check the article edit history. In this edit I citation-tagged the material in question (although it would have been perfectly permissible, per WP:V, to delete them immediately). I waited a week or so for them to be cited, then deleted them. Please do not reinsert meterial without first citing it (per WP:V#Burden of evidence). HrafnTalkStalk 03:40, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Fabian Bruskewitz

Great info on Lincoln bishop Fabian Bruskewitz and his refusal to sign the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young people. Good luck in keeping it there. I added something similar last month regarding his non-compliance with the USCCB but Wknight94 undid my (RobButler) edits and blocked me as a Sock Puppet even though I signed in under my username, which is also my real name, Rob Butler. My source was clearly sited as the April 14, 2002 Omaha World-Herald, a very public and reliable source. Nothing was based on personal opinion (I personally think Fabian Bruskewitz is a very, very bad man and will burn in hell because he is greedy and greed is one of the Seven Deadly Sins. rob_m_butler@hotmail.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.13.147.216 (talk) 04:45, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mfsbarn.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Mfsbarn.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 00:48, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Image source problem with Image:Veiled prophet.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Veiled prophet.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:16, 6 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 05:16, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Re Peter Noone and friends

Hi, thanks for your query on my talkpage. The link was to YouTube, and was one of several that an editor had uploaded. There is/was some query regarding the copyright on the material, whether it was the performance or the song I am unaware, and after blocking the uploader I rolledback all of the links. If you wish to ascertain the copyright of the clip, and re-instate the link if satisfied then go ahead. Since there were very many links I acted on the side of caution. I hope this explains my action(s). LessHeard vanU (talk) 22:11, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi DavidOaks!
We thank you for uploading Image:Brander matthews.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Herman's Hermits

Thanks for helping to keep POV out of this article.

Maybe you can help with something else too: The article currently includes this passage: "Original members were Keith Hopwood (guitar, vocals), Karl Green (bass guitar, vocals), Alan Wrigley (bass guitar, vocals), John Adamson (rhythm guitar), Steve Titterington (drums), and Peter Noone (lead vocals)."

I'm dubious about the group originally including two bass guitarists (Karl Green and Alan Wrigley). I'd guess that this is an error and that Alan Wrigley really played guitar (although that would make three guitarists, which also seems excessive--could there have been a piano or organ player?), but since I've actually never heard of him I can't really say. Do you have any information about this? TheScotch (talk) 17:09, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Request to move article Folk etymology incomplete

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page Folk etymology to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved, to automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 19:13, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
