Infobox Radio Station

Have replied to your message on Template_talk:Infobox Radio Station. --Marknew 11:47, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for raising your concerns with me. I think the best course of action would be to create a separate article for the Howard Stern Show instead of having in the Howard Stern article, and then including the fact that he is the engineer in that article. Thanks. enochlau (talk) 03:12, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

The old content was:
Scott Salem is the engineer for The Howard Stern Show. His main job is to create soundbites and edit recordings for use on the show.
... and some trivia. However, since you object, I will undelete the article and move it to WP:PROD. enochlau (talk) 07:35, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

User:Chrisleydon uploaded all the content. All I did was add a logo that he uploaded, and a {{wiki}} template. You should be putting this on his talk page. DHowell 00:41, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging for Image:Wards-logo.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Wards-logo.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned chess images

I tagged a few chess images, such as Image:Loshinsky L'Italia Scacchistica 1930 Grimshaw.png, with the {{orfud}} template. You took the tag away and changed the existing copyright from {{PD}} to {{PD-ineligible}} or something. But why did you remove the orphan-tag? I see the text does not quite match the copyright, but the images are orphaned anyway. They were replaced by the {{chess diagram}}. --ZeroOne 17:22, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Replied here. DHowell 20:10, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for asking, and for taking the effort to notice the deletion. I'm happy to work with you to get them identified and labeled according to Wikipedia requirements; I've undeleted them for now so we can more easily work on this together.
The main issues I see with them are:
  1. They lack a specified, detailed rationale for they being fair use in this case. I agree they seem justified, but it is important for us to explain this in detail. You can probably paste the same rationale for all the historical logos.
  2. Their source is not entirely clear; with current logos, a source is generally not that important - verifying them is very easy, and just assuming they were copied from the orgnaization's website is typically good enough. Neither of these is the case with historical logos like the two you mention. If we can find them online, we should mention the URL; otherwise, it'd be great if you could find them offline somewhere, and just add a comment verifing that they are correct.
  3. They need a copyright tag; as I see on your user page, you know about that formality. ;-)
I look forward to working with you to get these fixed up, and thanks again for contributing to Wikipedia; we need more people double-checking image deletions! (Copied from my talk page) JesseW, the juggling janitor 03:38, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
P.S. When linking to images (even deleted images), it's better to add a colon before the image name; with deleted images, a colon-less link leads to the Upload form, but a colon-ized link leads to the edit page (which has a link to the deleted revisions, for admins). Orphaned fair use image (Image:Logo opp.gif)

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo opp.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 02:40, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

ABC logos

There was a page about ABC logos, and it was recently deleted per an AfD consensus. I can't find the AfD off hand, though. The link you provided doesn't work, by the way. --Fang Aili talk 13:21, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Here it is: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/ABC Idents. However I think that what you've written doesn't apply to this AfD (since ABC Indents was only a gallery with no text). I've restored the image you asked for, but I suggest you upload any others again and provide full fair use rationales, lest they be deleted again. (Besides, I have deleted thousands of images over the past few months, and I have no idea which ones are ABC indents.) Also, a fortunecity website is not likely to be considered an acceptable source. Cheers and good luck, Fang Aili talk 13:34, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: Album covers tagged by sockpuppet vandal

Thanks for reporting this to me - I've reverted my actions, and removed the no-source tags from the articles, but Orphanbot stil needs reverting so the image are back on pages (as they're all fair use, this is obviously a neccesity - I'll look into doing it. Thanks Martinp23 10:43, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Image:Billy Joel-Greatest Hits, Vols. 1 & 2 (1973-1985) (album cover).jpg is the only image without a home, and I restored those which you listed on my talk page. Hope I've helped, thanks Martinp23 10:49, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
I've deleted that one, thanks! Martinp23 20:19, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

I've looked at the WT:FU thread, and while not all the socks are vandalistic, Aujin definitely is. Apparently he chose to tag all the images that Gflores (an admin who left months ago) uploaded last year; not just album covers but screenshots and movie posters got tagged as well. Sneaky. Kimchi.sg 23:21, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Looking at the history, I've no idea why I didn't delete it for G1 or A3, but it's back now. You can see the version I deleted in the history - I've reverted to the version from just before the first deletion, and removed the prod tag. A prod remains contestable after deletion, hence I've just taken it back to that version :) thanks - Martinp23 20:36, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Logos/AMIB

I completely agree with you as I have tried a couple times to have this stopped on the WP:AN board, but no one wishes to stand up to AMIB and each times give another "reason" as to why they shouldn't be included. Take a look at "Continuing Problem" on WP:AN. I got a little snippy on there because I was getting mad at everyone for pretty much giving a different reason and not really doing anything. I personally feel that AMIB needs to be ordered to stop, articles reverted with pictures (that are still available) readded, and his admin previligies revoked as he has clearly overstepped them. - SVRTVDude 21:32, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Dude! Very well written! Love the "4" analogy....no way, I would have thought of that:). Nicely done. - SVRTVDude 23:01, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

An editor has nominated American Broadcasting Company logos, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/American Broadcasting Company logos and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Arbitration re: Abu badali

Hi. I am writing you because you were one of the respondants on the RfC about Abu badali that was started back in November. There has been no substantive comment there for over a month and User:Abu badali has never bothered to respond to the RfC. The last comment on the talk page of the RfC was a suggestion to take it to arbitration, which is what I propose we do. Accordingly, I have created a shell/draft listing to add to the list of Arbitration Committee matters here. I've listed your new there, preliminarily, as a complaintant. If you are not interested in participating, please remove your name. If you are, please add your comments as we must prepare a 500 word summary of the case. Thanks for your attention - Jord 15:33, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair-use dispute

When there is an issue with copyright violation, the questionable material needs to be removed immediately. Please establish a consensus that such fair-use material is acceptable, at the policy proposal you've made, in lieu of edit warring to reinsert non-free content that doesn't satisfy WP:FUC.

I sympathize with your goals, but I will have to block you if you reinsert these images again (without adding sourced commentary on the image itself). - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:36, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

From what I can tell from the copyright policy, it only requires immediate removal of alleged copyright violations when the copyright owner requests it; otherwise, the material is up for discussion as much as anything else on Wikipedia. Also, as you're probably quite well aware, I'm usually pretty good at refraining from edit wars; this is likely the closest I've ever come to violating WP:3RR. DHowell 04:12, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Insinuations are unhelpful. I'm sympathetic to your overall goal.
I'm giving you a break; normally, if I see a week-old image with insufficient fair-use rationale, I'd just delete it on the spot. You may want to read this, which also requires that the image identify a specific point in the article (or the article as a whole) or that the image itself be the specific subject of commentary.
I'm leaving the images, undeleted, because you're claiming that sourced encyclopedic commentary about the images can be written, and I believe you. But, like I said before, you need to write that sourced encyclopedic commentary or get the policy changed, not just reinsert the images in the hope they'll stick. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:21, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I'm claiming that "sourced encyclopedic commentary about the images" is unnecessary, in this case, both under fair use law and fair use policy. Also, I fail to see where the fair use rationale guideline says what you say it says. It says the fair use rationale should address the question "What purpose does the image serve in the article?", which I have done in the rationales that I wrote. DHowell 04:32, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
The purpose is insufficient; that's the problem. You can't just stick the image in because it's relevant. It needs to illustrate a subject. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:35, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
It does illustrate a subject - the history of the television station or company. The images you removed from Montgomery Ward specifically illustrated the relevant time periods of the company's history. DHowell 04:39, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Generally, these articles don't talk about the history of the logos, though. They didn't illustrate a time period; they were relevant to that time period. Another user was saying something about adding some text how the logo changed to reflect a rebranding of the franchise; that is the kind of commentary we need to be illustrating. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:42, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Aw, we were having such a nice discussion. Why did you have to go and violate WP:3RR just a couple hours after you threatened me with a block? I promise that if you are blocked I won't restore any of the logos you removed while you are blocked. DHowell 05:20, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Removing copyvio content is different. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 05:21, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Removing clear copyvio content is different - in this case the alleged violation is disputed. I guess we'll let WP:AN3 decide. DHowell 05:25, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Are you really going to go through on this? I'm being nice by not just deleting images that fail our fair-use policy and fair-use rationale policy on sight, and that's the only reason there's any potential for reverts. I could easily simply delete on sight, as is our existing policy. I don't think it's productive for you to go out of your way to antagonize someone who is not only sympathetic, but also going out of his way to make your life easier. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 05:28, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

FTR, I support AMIB's position -- these images contribute absolutely nothing to the articles in question, nor to the history of their respective companies. The have no significance to the article (adding no historical value) and fail to meet any notability requirements (real or imagined). Above and beyond that, they were lifted from a copyrighted publication. /Blaxthos 07:39, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
