Actually, you are right, it's not synthesis we are seeing, it's basic WP:OR.

  • "It should be noted that some sources say that the material was played off a special five track tape recorder, but this may refer to later performances (Poullin 1957) (this needs to be confirmed)."

Unless Pulin is the one making this observation it is WP:OR so needs to be dropped. The "this needs to be confirmed" is simply not encyclopedic.

  • "Although Manning, (Manning, 1985) refers to this as having been used in concerts, it appears that, for the early concerts at least, an experimental set of strings pulling potentiometers was used instead of the induction based system, because of technical problems with the wiring of the potentiomètre d'espace. This is born out by the reference to a ring with four ropes attached (...un anncau relié à quatre films) in the description of the 20th of July 1951 performance of "Symphonie pour un homme seul" as given in "A la Recherche d'une Musique concrete" (Schaeffer, 1952:108)."

Again, who is making this observation about what Manning states? it appears to be an original contribution, therefore unusable - the editor is surmising.

  • "Despite these teething problems, it is clear from circuit diagrams in Poullin's article that he was using voltage control in the potpotentiomètre d'espace years before Moog began to use it in his synthesiser designs." Another original contribution, who is being cited for this statement?

I have no problem using the original sources, but who do we attribute the various observations above to? Measles (talk) 22:17, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, all accepted, I understand your points. I'm currently trying to contact Yann Geslin to see if he managed to get any more solid references on this - I know he was looking into this 10 years ago and was hoping to talk to m. Poulin, who was still alive at that point, though at least 80. I'm also trying to talk to someone at the National Research Council of Canada about making the translation of Poulin's article available on line.

that would be great. We can reference the Poulin article, that's not an issue, as long as it's cited correctly, with publication details etc. Measles (talk) 17:39, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
