The file File:CydeWeys RefConv.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:02, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary incorrectly links to CFDS[edit]

Hi Cyde, recent edits such as [1] show Cydebot using the edit summary "Speedily moving category… per CFDS" for cases that were not speedy, and appear to be properly listed by MER-C here [2] under the heading

;[[Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2019 May 23]]

I can't see anything wrong with MER-C's listing.

Please check Cydebot's coding for the attribution. It is linking correctly to the CFD log for deletions,[3] but seems to be stating "Speedily" for all moves/merges. Here [4] e.g. Category:Thai desserts was also incorrectly recorded by Cydebot as speedy; see correct listing at CFDW.[5]Fayenatic London 14:06, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed it. This change was the cause, because it changed the section header for moves (by one character). I've modified the bot to allow the presence of a comma there and it's correctly picking up moves now. Perhaps not everyone realizes that WP:CFDW is in machine-readable format, and that seemingly trivial layout/formatting changes aren't. --Cyde Weys 16:21, 23 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I need your help on my page[edit]

I've created my new draft article page, Draft:Badimo (Roblox user group), and I want someone to review it and see if it's okay to be in the main namespace. Except for placing the draft article template and submit it, can you help me to review it and comment me on my talk page? Radioactive Uranium, 92 (talk) 13:02, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Alumni of Hospitalfield House[edit]

Hi, I have removed the remains of a speedy template from Category:Alumni of Hospitalfield House which was left by Cydebot in 2015. Please could you let me know if I should have left it (and why). The text was:

<!-- BEGIN CFD TEMPLATE -->
<!-- Please do not remove or change this [[Template:Cfr-speedy]] message until the survey and discussion at [[WP:CFD]] is closed -->
{{#ifeq:{{NAMESPACE}}|Category| |{{error:not substituted|Cfr-speedy}}<div style="display:none;">}}

<!-- End of Cfr-speedy message, feel free to edit beyond this point -->
<!-- END CFD TEMPLATE -->
TSventon (talk) 08:21, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TSventon: Thanks, you were right to remove it.
For a period of time, CydeBot was blanking one line of the cfr-speedy template, in this case [6], instead of removing all six lines.
Looking at other Cydebot edits in category namespace on the same day in 2015, [7] with a character change of about -100, I see that more categories still have the template lines, e.g. Category:Glacial erratics of Oregon and Category:Frisians. The lines do not do much harm, but cause (i) extra white space at the top of the page and (ii) confusion to editors such as yourself.
There were others that were left at the time with the template lines, but those have since been removed in other edits (e.g. [8], manual; [9] double removal by Cydebot after a later re-nomination).
Cyde, is there any way you could trace and remove those dud lines left behind by Cydebot? can you at least figure out the range of dates concerned? I note that we discussed this before (User_talk:Cyde/Archive029#CFD_text_left_behind, User_talk:Cyde/Archive030#CFD_template_lines_left_in) but it seems to be a more widespread issue than we thought. Note that it did not end after that discussion in 2014.
@DannyS712 and JJMC89: might you have any suggestions for how to trace & remove them?

I used some insource searches to find remaining parts of the substituted CFD templates. I think I got them all, but let me know if there is anything outstanding. (I am not watching this page, so please ping me if you want my attention.) — JJMC89(T·C) 02:30, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page Watch[edit]

Hello, I was recently patrolling some "Wikipedia:__" pages, and I noticed that the first part of the "Wikipedia: Userbox" article was changed into arabic from (I'm guessing something from the Quran?). As I do not have rollback rights, I decided to contact an admin to see if they could potentially do something about this (and maybe check the page to see if it needs future protection).
This issue has been resolved

Thanks,

Where do Yearbooks fall under Copyright laws?[edit]

I'm interested in uploading a photograph of my high school, Scotia-Glenville Senior High School in Schenectady County, New York, to the school's page. I'd also like to use it on my sandbox (I plan on using my sandbox as an outline for an art project). The problem is, I do not know where yearbooks fall under copyright laws. Could you help? --Daniel Jackson 2001 (talk) 23:28, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cydebot blocked[edit]

I blocked Cydebot since it was emptying and deleting the categories listed at WP:CFDW#Retain even though they were not in the "Empty then delete" section. If you update the script or disable the task and want Cydebot unblocked, please let me know. — JJMC89(T·C) 04:37, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Harris semi-confirmed pp[edit]

I took the liberty of just extending the semi-protection to indefinite. I figure it can be lifted when no longer necessary (instead of having it randomly expire). I also wanted to change the summary of why it was protected since literally everybody who tries to edit the article can see that, and "Whoops I meant for this to last longer" isn't very informative ;-) ~Awilley (talk) 00:59, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Needs Attribution[edit]

Hi there! In your edits to the article Homeric simile, you included the sentence "In the words of Peter Jones, Homeric similes 'are miraculous, redirecting the reader's attention in the most unexpected ways and suffusing the poem with vividness, pathos and humour.'" This quote was flagged as needing a reference, which is true, but the intro to the quote ("in the words of Peter Jones") is identical word-for-word with the analysis in this essay: https://www.studymode.com/essays/Homeric-Vs-Virgilian-51926663.html. Was this intentional, and is there anything that I can do to help?Kokopelli7309 (talk) 17:37, 13 November 2020 (UTC)User:Kokopelli7309[reply]

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled[edit]

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:05, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Administrator activity policy update[edit]

Hello, Cyde. This message is to let you know about a change to the administrator policy:

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work. — xaosflux Talk 20:30, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
