Daca e sa "pierdem" specimenul asta, am putea... improviza luand elementul din stema actuala a Clujului (orasul), ca are un dragon dacic pe fond galben. Sau nu e o reprezentare grozava acolo? Acea imagine, fiind o stema, clar n-are problee de copyright, si am utea lua elemente din ea; nu?

Hi, I'm just starting the copyedit on Celts in Transylvania and had a thought. The article would look much better if there was an infobox next to the lead. I'm sure that there a number of suitable ones out there. Please wait until I've copyedited the lead before adding it.

Another comment "Celts of Transylvania" is more grammatically correct than "Celts in Transylvania" so you might want to move the page accordingly.

Din pacate eu m-am lasat si am renuntat la functii din lipsa de timp. De cei ce nu merita sa-ti pierzi vremea m-am dezis total lasandu-i pe altii sa ia masuri(majoritatea compatrioti sau rusi isterici si/sau frustrati, cu puncte de vedere ce trebuie obligatoriu acceptate si postate), i-am ignorat si am colaborat in continuare cu o echipa formata din oameni de calitate si de-a dreptul deosebiti. Foarte misto editorialul! Pacat ca nu ai mai stat. Am auzit lucruri bune despre proiect. Pare foarte profesionist, probabil cel mai profesionist de pe WP. Eu sunt de relativ putin timp pe Wikipedia, si am pornit proiectul cu Dacia din pasiune si pentru ca multe articole sunt lipsa sau de calitate proasta. Iar informatia in engleza despre Dacia si istoria antica a Romaniei minima. Nu ma asteptam insa fiu tratat atat de murdar chiar de unii compatrioti (cel putini scriu pe paginile lor ca sunt din Romania sau romani, dar se comporta ca si cei mai mari dusmani). Daca ungurii sau bulgarii ar fi facut-o (si uneori or fac), ii inteleg. Pe acei "romani", niciodata. Tot ce ai spus in editorial, am observat si eu. Oh, yes, sorry. I've been thinking about it. To me, saying "of Transylvania" it would mean that Celts were originally from there, when in fact they migrated to this region. Saying "in" seems or sounds more accurate historically speaking, but I am not a native speaker. If you think the "of" formula is more correct in English and that "in" is incorrect, I am fine with the move. --Codrin.B (talk) 06:01, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

English draws a very fine line between "in" and "of" — using in immediately begs the question "What are they doing there?" rather than, (when "of" is used), indicating that they were/are an ethnic group there. Using "of" also makes the lead sentence of the article scan better.

On the template front, have a look here. You will need to decide which topics you want (Kings, tribes etc) because adding all the stuff from the Dacia topics template would make it about 1 metre (3 ft 3 in) long. ► Philg88 ◄ talk 10:24, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

I don't have a strong opinion about "in" or "of", but for notability and consistency, if you search Google books you get

25 results for Celts in Transylvania vs 7 results for Celts of Transylvania. So, I don't know. I'll let you decide since you are more experienced with Wikipedia and have better command of English

Nice commune article

How about Coronini? Mehadia is also not bad, though it only covers the titular village; same with Slava Cercheză, Chilia Veche and Sarichioi. Bazna is by me, a more modest effort. Biertan is a start. Sâncraiu is even more rudimentary. Anyway, they do exist, but in fairly small numbers. List of historical monuments in Romania

Thank you for your message. I do not think it is possible (in Wiki project) to have a list with a total of 29,540 entries, or split in Counties, hundreds or thousands of entries!

On the other hand, it would be useless as long as we have an easy access to this list actualised by Romanian Minister of Culture: http://arhiva.cultura.ro/Files/GenericFiles/LMI-2010.pdf

Anyhow, in order to have a geographical image, I am going to update the article with the total number of monuments for each County.

It woul be usefull to find some volunteers to make some pictures using data from Cimec for old roman limes: Trajan Limes in Dobruja, Antharic wall in Moldavia till Ucraine, Constantine wall (brazda lui Novac) from Drobeta to Siret. Also some pictures of railroad constructed on the limes transaulutus.

I think you already uploaded on Commons the pictures your mentioned. I tried to collect them here. If you have more, I would love to see them. Please upload them when you can. Issue

Greetings! I have noticed that some of the Dacian town's categories are wrong, indicating them as being Romanian ruins or archaeological sites, while on the maps they appear to have been in Bulgaria. Here are the maps I have seen - [2], [3]. Some of the towns are not located on those maps (or I haven't seen them), so can you please check tham out and correct the categories if there are other towns, situated in Bulgaria and not in Romania. Here are the towns I have corrected so far - Giridava, Scaidava, Bregedava, Itadava, Keiladeva and Danedevae. Also, I have doubts about Murideva - on the first map it appears on the border between Bulgaria and Romania but I cannot say on which side of the border; on the second one, it is clearly within Bulgaria. Since you are more competent on the matter, see what you will find for that particular town and if is indeed in Bulgaria, correct that category. Regards, --Gligan (talk) 13:45, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Gligan, thanks for writing. Yes indeed, it is unclear from those two maps where some towns are. Many are very close to the Danube. Some are not identified in the field yet! Some are in Serbia, some even in Macedonia or Albania. I used the same template for all the Dacian towns I entered as stubs, so indeed some might have incorrect categories stating them as Romanian sites. As an example, for the mentioned towns Category:Archaeological sites in Bulgaria is the correct one, and so it goes for the ruins category. However, replacing the Category:Dacia with Category:Ancient Thrace is incorrect since those towns, with the -dava ending are proper Daco-Moesian towns. They were all part of the Burebista's kingdom for example. The Thracian ending is -para and Thrace proper is south of the Balkans (see also the map). The "border" of linguistic and cultural separation between Dacians and Thracians is now accepted to be at the Balkan mountains and not the Danube. And on top of it, there are Dacian and Thracian tribes and towns that were intermingled, and in each others' "territories", making things not that clear cut. Take a look at this map and the other ones in this great online work from Thracologist Sorin Olteanu (unfortunately, the text in mostly Romanian but the maps are cool). He based a lot of his modern work on many famous Bulgarian thracologists. I know that in the 70s there was a very superficial simplification of history, in both Bulgaria and Romania, putting the Dacians north of Danube and the Thracians south of it, just to coincide with the two modern countries borders, and this trend still continues in some circles, but we know much more today. Now, the Category:Ancient history of Romania I thinks should not be replaced by Category:History of Bulgaria but the two should rather coexist on this Dacian towns topics, since Dacia is an integral part of the Romanian history, as southern Dacia is part of the history of Bulgaria as well. You can't simply divide these two. We obviously have a common history ;-) Have you seen this one. Great archaeology happening in Bulgaria these days! They call it "Thracian" but since is north of the Balkans, I wonder if it is more Daco-Moesian. Thanks for the help. Cheers! --Codrin.B (talk) 18:23, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the quick reaction :) Well, I think I have replaced Dacia with Ancient Thrace only for the towns south of the Balkan mountains, which I think have never belonged to an entity called Dacia, or if so, it was for a short period of time. About the category about Romania and Bulgaria's history, if both exist for all towns, then it is acceptable but in my opinion that most of the Dacian towns to the north of the Danube do not belong to Bulgarian history and those to the south, especially to the south of the Balkan mountains - to Romanian. Probably it would make sense to include in that category the towns that were in Burebista's kingdom as connected to Romanian history, as should those that were in the Odryssian Kingdom to Bulgarian history. But generally you are correct about the misunderstanding and confusion about the Thracian and Dacian cultural borders and also that Bulgarians and Romanians are closer that most people think (I can recall that according to some studies both peoples had approxiamtely the same percent of Thracian/Dacian origin; I can myself add that there is a lot of Slavic blood too, and also some Cuman, Pecheneg and others; probably only the Bulgars and the Vlachs make the difference, if I have to be simplistic :):):):) )
PP: I have indeed noticed that discovery. You can see part of the recovered items here :). There is also an audio with a short explanation but unfortunately in Bulgarian. As for Thracian, it seems that in modern times historians/archaeologists link any discovery to the current national policy. If the discovery was in Romania, 1 km away from the Bulgarian border, it would have been Dacian; if it was in Bulgaria - Thracian. Another example - the Romanians call the medieval discoveries from the period of the First Bulgarian Empire "Dridu culture" (or something of the sort) which is ridiculous (in my opinion). The findings to the north of the modern border are said to belong to the so called Dridu culture, to the south - to Bulgarian culture. And so on, and so on. I hope that one day people would start caring more for the historical truth that to the country's policy and there are indications in the last two decades that things are going in that direction. I agree with all the points! For the towns that were south of Balkans, putting them in Ancient Thrace makes sense. Even though the borders of "Dacia" or "Dacian Kingdom" are still hard to 100% be sure of (more research is needed here), marking them as Category:Dacian towns should be safe, as long as they have the Dacian -dava ending. It doesn't seem that Thracians have ever used such an ending. Maybe global collaboration on Wikipedia can help clarify all these confusions and dismiss the politically motivated ideas of applying modern borders to ancient cultures. Your link is great! I wish you luck with the planned translations and with your work as a whole :) There are indeed trully a lot of interesting findings in Bulgaria every year and I guess it must be the same in Romania and for me it would be interesting if you manage to make articles on Romanians discoveries. I guess that in the future we will again have conversations on certain issues, having in mind the blurry cultural borders between Thracians and Dacians. It is good to clarify and discuss such issues and for me it is truly a pleasure to have discussions with you. In early September I expanded the article Dromichaetes and now it has one section on Helis. There's a short discussion there. I found a lot about Sboryanovo and Sveshtari, but not so much about the north-Danubian contemporary settlements. Maybe you can wiki-link some of those proposals to the relevant archaeological sites (now they point to modern villages and towns). Also if you can improve or expand the text it would be great.   • Regarding WP:DACIA, we need all help we can get. The only thing that worries me is that you were banned before. However from your statements upon lifting the ban, I understand you are up to speed with Wikipedia rules and guidelines. As you probably know, Dacia as a subject is loaded with controversy and nationalism. We have to strive to keep a neutral view on all articles. Please review the WP Dacia scope and goals. As for tasks, we have a lot of work: WP Dacia tasks. For samples of good work look at WP Dacia featured articles, the top quality articles in the assessment chart, and articles like Ziridava. I suggest you read the project page, to get familiar with the guidelines, templates and ideas behind the project. If Antes is of interest to you, start with that, although from WP Dacia perspective, it is of marginal importance, being at the extreme end of the time span covered by the project. Alternatively, Wikipedia:WikiProject Dacia/Drafts/List of Dacian towns and fortresses is currently in the works in the drafts section and needs much more work.
  • Regarding Antes, the statement ancient Slavic-Iranian tribal union and most of the article are controversial, and most certainly badly needs references. They are almost non-existent. If you think, that maybe those statements are from that book, they will need to be properly reference to the actual pages. Careful though about WP:PLAGIARISM. Also, the article needs to be balanced out using different authors not just rely on a single source or point of view. I suggest you get more familiar with WP:NPOV, WP:OR and WP:CITE.

I saw your response on ANI, Codrin, and I wanted to reply, so in the interest of complying to the extent of not exacerbating the situation on ANI, I'll respond here. However, let me posit the reverse position to yours: If it's the same thing, why is Saturnian so hell-bent on changing it against consensus if there's nothing wrong with the way it is? The titles used currently are not redirects, and seem to be indicative of English-language usage (particularly the "I" vs "J"). Many other historical figures also have their names rendered differently in different languages without charges of "dafamation" by a third party. That includes not only biblical figures (whose names went through Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Latin before they got anywhere near what we have today), as well as every English-alphabet native person on a non-English WP, and vice-versa. So what seems like a small issue is really a lot bigger.

Why? Well, when we start using non-standard spellings, it creates issues. My English layout keyboard won't even let me natively input accents for Spanish and French, much less Cyrillic, Hebrew, Greek, or CJK characters (the latter of which are horrific with homophones). So unless we use English conventions on English WP as per the MOS and other related policies and guidelines, I (the general user) can't find certain topics. Therefore, the accessibility and utility of English WP as a whole is directly impacted.

That's the large scale. The small scale is that you are likely unaware that the Romania-related articles the Cuza issue stems from were actually secondary items for me; I came across this situation because Saturnian made two changes to Cuza's entry on List of Freemasons, made the hyperbolic claim that using the English language spelling was "defamatory" to the subject, offered no support for the position, and stopped just short of a 3RR after two different editors (myself being #2, not #1) reverted his changes. It would be my contention, therefore, that rather than looking at this as a blip on the screen of the wide view of Saturnian's otherwise good contribs, Saturnian is instead marring his record with this behavior. Length of service does not and never has excused unacceptable behavior on a project, such as, well, canvassing. MSJapan (talk) 02:47, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

I think at this time you are both very "hell-bent" about this. I mean look at all the effort you put here, and just for "John" vs "Ioan". Come on! Regarding "against consensus", I counted 10 (for move/rename to Alexandru Ioan Cuza) vs 4 (against). So what consensus are we talking about? When you say "every English-alphabet native person" you probably mean the Latin alphabet. And what do we do with Ludwig van Beethoven and Ludovico Sforza? By your logic we get to Ludovic of Beethoven or Ludwig Strength? Is this right? Are they recognizable? Regarding accents, there are no accents in Romanian, definitely not in Alexandru Ioan Cuza. So this argument doesn't stand. But above everything else, there are far more hits for "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" than "Alexander John Cuza", and this is the main criteria for WP:NOTABILITY, WP:UE and WP:UCN. I quote from WP:UCN: it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources. Do you understand that there are more hits for Alexandru Ioan Cuza in English reliable sources than for Alexander John Cuza? And, look at Søren Kierkegaard and Besançon, as suggested by WP:UE. I understand why Saturnian is so "passioned" about this. He started this initiative around December 1st, the National Day of Romania, out of respect for Cuza. But what's in it for you? I agree he should know better and not get into edit warring and canvasing. I think everyone should cool off and accept the vote of majority, whatever it will be. Hi. I've removed a number of the additions you made to Dacia (disambiguation), as they had no target links in them. The purpose of a Disambiguation page is to link existing articles of the same (or very similar) title, and not to list all uses of the name in question. So if a usage of the word does not have a Wikipedia article, it does not get an entry in a disambiguation page. Also, an entry can be made to an article of a different title, provided the target article actually describes the name in question - but if it doesn't, again it should not have an entry in the disambiguation page. Just to try to expand on what I'm saying, the purpose of a disambig page is to help people searching for articles about a topic, so lets put ourselves in the position of someone looking for articles about Roman Dacia. If we have all those multiple links, they'll see the disambig page and think...

  • "Ah, they have an article on Roman Dacia."
  • "There's also on on Dacia Inferior - oh, no there isn't, that just links to Roman Dacia."
  • "Oh, there's one on Dacia Superior - oh, no, that just links to Roman Dacia instead".
  • "Ah, Dacia Porolissensis - no, that's just Roman Dacia too."

You see the problem? Without those extra links, someone searching will find only links to articles we actually have, and won't waste time following lots of links to the same thing. If there is extra information you want to add about those provinces and their dates, etc, that should go in the Roman Dacia article itself, not on the disambig page - there should be no information on a disambig page that is not in the target article. I put links to specific sections describing those terms. Isn't that helping direct the reader? Those terms will potentially expand in full fledged articles. Hi. A section link is generally only used if there is a section with that specific title (though even then it generally isn't done if the same article is already linked from the same disambig page). A disambig page is not an index or a set of search results, and it is not used to list every occurrence of a name in all Wikipedia articles - it is a list of articles, and so we generally only want one entry per article, not one entry for everything that is mentioned in the article. If we added disambig links for everything that's mentioned in every article, disambig pages would become enormous and unusable. As it stands, if anyone comes to the disambig page and sees no links to the individual provinces, I think Roman Dacia will be the obvious place to look. I guess is fair like that, but to me, disambig pages should help users find information. I guess you could go to Roman Dacia if you came here looking for Dacia Apulensis, but that is, only if you know what Apulensis is. Anyhow, I plan to create articles for each of the Dacias eventually, and then this should not be an issue anymore. Regarding the primary topic, thanks for the support but can you give your opinion on the dismbig talk page about this? The edits from that editor seem very disruptive to me. Regarding automobiles, I wrote the years since if you write just sedan, sedan .. to each car, how is it going to help the reader decide which one to lookup further? Maybe he got there with an idea about the time period and the car, then he can go further quickly if he has enough context. But no big deal either way. I am only interested in helping with clarity. 24-48 hour delay

Hi

One reason I asked, is that it seems that the Costoboci, in this article at least, were living in what is now western Ukraine and south-eastern Poland. It would be normal for a mountain range to separate tribes and cultures, but I would like to spend a day or so to check with a couple of sources regarding tie-ins with the Cimmerians, Magna Germania, and the Sarmatians. If so, then perhaps User:Saukkomies (already a member of the Dacia group I believe), may be able to help with some aspects of the article, though unfortunately he is normally busy teaching at University - which impedes his on-Wiki time and, though it may be some time before he can get back to you with assistance, it is normally worth the wait :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 21:05, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

First of, no rush and thanks for the great help. Costoboci also presumably lived in Maramureş, northern Romania. The northern border of Roman Dacia was set at Porolissum (near modern Zalău, Sălaj County). The small mountain ranges that separated the Roman Province from Free Dacians/Costoboci were Meseş Mountains and Seş Mountains (see the images in those articles). The User:Daizus worked a lot on the article and added many great sources but he doesn't seem to be active recently. I will ping User:Saukkomies, it is a great idea. I found a source that talks a bit about the origins of the Costoboci that isn't included in the Wiki article. Here's the citation:

No link, since it's in hard copy only. It is theoretically possible that one could obtain a pdf copy of the scanned article through a local library via their interlibrary loan department - IF the library that owns the material is willing to participate in the exchange, which in this case is very dubious, since there are only two libraries in the world (as far as I can tell) that own a copy of this, and they're both located in Slovenia. But you never know till you try, so if you wish, you can go to a library near you that has a good interlibrary loan department, and see if they can get it. Romania

On Wikipedia, the general norm should be that everyone can edit any article, and so I think all protections should have an expiry date on them. For an article as high-profile as Romania, there will almost certainly be active editor watching it for vandalism, who will request protection again should the article be vandalised again shortly after the protection expires. Thanks for clarifying. Makes sense but when there is a significant history of vandalism and protections. I think at least the period of expiration should be longer if it cannot be permanent. Last time was only 2 weeks which was really insufficient. Editors can and will continue to revert and report, but given the frequency, all this back and forth wastes people's time. My 2 cents. Hey, look I just think that we should focus on the technical part. Some of the additional subsequent diffs only show that the guy has a pro-communist bias but people do not get banned for that. I just think that we should narrow this list down and make easier for the admin's to digest - I honestly do not think that they care about the issue too much plus I think that they are also naturally more likely to presume innocence rather than guilt on the part of whoever is accused. I know you put in a lot into this already and honestly, I think you got a lot of patience to put up with this - but the point of this is to get the admins to listen and I think that narrowing the list down to just technical and very obvious incivility cases might do just that. Bosut culture

Do you have some source that connects this culture with territory of present-day Romania? According to sources that I saw, all archaeological sites of the culture are in present-day Serbia. Therefore, the culture might qualify for Wiki project Dacia (due to opinion about origin of the people of that culture), but I do not see source that support connection with Wiki project Romania. Since it is sometimes grouped as part of the Bosut-Basarabi complex which was spanning the territories of both modern Serbia and Romania, and is researched by both Serbian and Romanian archaeologists, I think it fits the scope of WP:ROMANIA with a low importance. We are talking about project tags on topics of concern not about the territorial annexation of Serbian land within Bosut culture region to Romania or something. Do you think that WP:ROMANIA and WP:SERBIA exist with the purpose of marking territory or something?! I am only trying to have correct categorization here. I do not see why we would include something into category of one country if that was not located in the territory of that country. I am sorry but you are confusing the WP categories with the project banners. The purpose of the project banners is to get those articles into the attention of project members for better collaboration, assessment and content creation. It is not to categorize articles for the readers but for the help of the editors! Even though the article Serbian-Hungarian Baranya-Baja Republic doesn't belong to the Category:Geography of Serbia it should most certainly have the WP:SERBIA because it clearly mentions Serbian history or Serbians. The very reason you even touched that article is because it has to do with Serbia or Serbians. The project tag is one way for editors to find out about the articles relevant to their project/interest. It has nothing to do with WP categories which have completely different criteria. There is no major difference between categorization of articles and categorization of Wiki projects. There are very clear limits in which we can categorize something. If we cross these limits we will have chaos where everything is allowed and we, for example, will have extreme cases like categorization of some places in Canada or Australia under Wiki project Serbia or Wiki project Romania because of the fact that few Serbs or Romanians are living there (and following the logic of "distant connection" there is no reason not to include these articles into these Wiki projects). As a result of such approach, we would categorize most of Wikipedia articles under most Wiki projects and that would completely destroy every purpose of every categorization. Can you RTFM? The projects tags are for editors/projects, categories for readers. Major difference! I am not sure I follow you at at all about the "dangers". WP:NOTPAPER so we are not saving bytes from talk pages and the more projects (hence more editors) contribute, assess, review or are simply aware of an article, the better. The article Serbian Australian absolutely positively should be tagged for both WP:SERBIA and WP:AUSTRALIA, for the obvious reason that the most likely editors who will review, assessed, contribute and maintain this article are Serbians, Australians or both. It will show up on the assessment lists of both projects and if there is an RfD, both projects will get alerts, which is great since the most likely editors who can take a meaningful action about that article's situation are exactly the members of those two project. That is not that someone from WP:CHINA could not contribute, but the chances will be slim hence it should not be tagged with WP:CHINA. The whole idea of multiple tagging is inter-project collaboration. If you still don't get it or your propose is some sort of project separatism or sole project-ownership, you are going in the wrong direction. I for one wasted just enough time with this silly discussion and I sincerely think you have to do more reading about how WikiProjects and WP categories work and what's their purpose. Thank you, I very much appreciate that. Concerning the lead: it is more or less proportional to the article, and I feel it summarizes the highlights of AB and his role in this and that (well, first in this, then in that). See WP:LEAD for that.

The picture you mention is an embellished copy, probably very recent, of an image that seems to have first been drawn by C. Artachino (see front page here for one of the many copies). Judging by the nature and the style of the colored image you link to, I would say it is one from the series of didactic images that used to be put up in schools and other institutions during the Ceauşescu era. They are most likely the work of this guy, and as such are probably copyrighted.

Interestingly, Artachino's own work is (still) copyrighted, given he died in '54, but, from what I gather (and this too has been debated by our esteemed wikipedia colleagues), stamps and images on stamps are not subject to copyright. Or rather,m the royalties are assumed to have been payed in full by the Romanian state. Of course, we know copyright strictness is mostly Potemkinian in Romania, but there you go - it's a bad law, but it's still the law. Regards, Dahn (talk) 18:12, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

I am glad you do. I am familiar with WP:LEAD but I re-read the article lead a few times. It is certainly a great summary and does comply with the suggestions at Wikipedia:LEAD#Length as far as size go. So I'll take that back, maybe it is short enough.
Interesting trivia about the image. You certainly did your research. Yes, if Artachino died in '54, then we have to wait till 70 years pass. However, we also have PD-RO-1956, in case you find an image that fits that narrow requirement set. And yes, for stamps we have PD-RO-exempt. I was thinking to crop the image from the stamp (some already done it), but it's not looking that great and it is not trivial to properly hide the feather. It might be that graphics on some children's books from the '50s take up Artachino's portrait and "recontextualize" it into zincography - I do recall having looked through one such copy of some awful primer of republican poetry (with Neculuţă, Vlahuţă etc.). It might fit the time span, but alas, it would still be black-and-white.
Concerning the cropping: if we're going to use the image from the stamp, I believe it might as well be the stamp itself. It gives the full context, preserves the integrity of the work, and, in my humble opinion, looks better all in all. Dahn (talk) 19:25, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Please don't do that

Please don't submit near identical AE reports just hours after the last one was closed. It was clear that the administrators there saw nothing actionable, despite the wall of text, so re-submitting it without substantial new evidence is very poor form. I assume you misinterpreted the previous admins' comments, which is why I am only advising you not to do it again—editors have been sanctioned in the past for very similar conduct, but I am giving you the benefit of the doubt. Thanks for the note. My understanding was that it was too verbose and I trimmed it considerably. The statement says If you want to submit another one, please don't overwhelm us with tl;dr amounts of material. I am not sure how so many violations can get overlooked and dismissed like this. Re-filing with fresh evidence if/when it emerges (and, just for the record though I'm sure I don't need to tell you, that's not a license to harass them) is probably the best option. And if/when you do, try to keep it to half a dozen diffs in chronological order, followed by a concise explanation of the problem with them and the precise remedy you believe they violate. Or if you think I'm mad, you can go over my head to ArbCom, who may tell me I'm an idiot, or may tell you to drop it, or something in between. I thought that reporting all the violations (and they are so many!) would be important for the case. Yet, the admins refused to look because there is too much verbosity. Ok, I understand that. I didn't know about dismissal on verbosity grounds. Besides the large amounts of incivility (yes verbosely reported because is so much of it), there are clear and repeated 1RR violations. How can they be ignored? Why wait for more evidence when there is so much already? I can make a very short report with 5 diffs, the worse violations and that's it. That would be the briefest. The most recent alleged 1RR violation in your AE request is from 11 days ago. That's too old to be actionable, even if it was the most obvious violation in history. There's no hard and fast rule on how recent it should be to be actionable, but most 1RR violations that end in a block are reported as soon as they happen, and certainly on the same day that the alleged violation happened. I had no idea about these technicalities regarding same day reporting someones violations. Can you point me somewhere to read about all this? In principle, I think this allows someone like Anonimu to "get away with murder", even though he has a huge string of blatant violations. Basically, based on all the feedback, if someone will report the same day, he could be accused of WP:STALK and harassment, while if he takes the time compiles a big list of violations, it will be dismissed as reported too late and/or too verbose. I get the feeling that no one wants to deal with this, and I am pretty sure he will continue to get on the rampages he went so far with even more impunity. Sorry it took me so long to respond to your request; it's been a busy month. HJ Mitchell explained it fairly clearly, but I think you're painting a false dichotomy. If you want to file a request regarding a simple 1RR violation that requests a short block to stop the immediate edit warring, do so within a few hours of the occurrence. If you want to request a longer term topic ban, try to concisely explain things in less than 500 words and don't fill up the page with responses to other users. Admins are willing to read that much, but not one takes someone's word for it—everyone does their own investigation too. No one has time to do both their own investigation and read all the material presented in the state that it was, so it is helpful if the filing is as concise and clear as possible. Distribution of ethnic-Romanians

Hi there, sorry, I seem to have replied to your statement on my talked page (Scooter20 (talk)) on another user's talk page (Dapiks (talk)).
Below was my original reply:
Yeah, the focus was mainly to show the distribution of Daco-Romanians / Vlachs which are in the near proximity of Romania (forming a compact Romanian populated region).
The Aromanians, Megleno-Romanians and Istro-Romanians are somewhat isolated and are depicted (along with Daco-Romanians) in another map: here
Regarding other areas of Bulgaria, I am not sure where Romanians would live besides Vidin region, there are no good fairly recent ethnic maps of Bulgaria. Perhaps some communities live in the north along the Danube in some areas.
I guess we can delete this map, since it's not very accurate, highly increasing the area of Moldovans into Transylvania.

El mai are multe härti "ciudate" (cu greseli privind diferite regiuni din spatiul ex-Iugoslav si ex-Sovietic, sau est-european pe scarä mai largä), si, fiind prolific, a împânzit Wikipedia cu ele. Noi avem un excelent cartograf, Andrein, care a si väzut aceste mesaje.

Buna, multumesc pentru raspuns. Ma gandeam ca ar fi utila colaborarea cu Scooter, am observat ca aveti interese similare legate de harti. In discutia care am metionat-o era vorba de o harta istorica a vlahilor. Poate puteti colabora la creearea hartilor si/sau la gasirea surselor. Legat de Panonian, poate sa fie foarte dificil si cred ca e adeptul unui Pan-Slavism trecut de limitele normalului sau ale stiintei. A creeat si alte probleme si conflicte, dar uneori poate fi rezonabil daca i se poate dovedi cu surse sigure. Bună seara, abia acum am dat de mesajul d-tale. În ceea ce priveşte articole despre România: vorbesc româneşte, am petrecut ani de zile acolo, dar acum nu prea mai am timp pentru Wikipedie. Dacă pot să te ajut cu ceva, lasă-mi mesajul în pagina mea de utilizator în limba sorabă (hornjoserbsce), pe aceea o mai frecventez din când în când, încercând să pun la punct nişte informaţii cu privire la limbi romanice minoritare (istroromână, occitană, sardă...). Re: AWB Kingbotk plugin generics

Hi, I'm trying to look at fixing this issue, but I'm not sure what you think is broken...

This may be because there was a loading bug (rev 8028) which likely broke all loading of settings. In which case can you try a version from tools:~awb/snapshots/? Pick the one with the highest number after "rev".

Testing it now, I can create a generic template and get it loaded back in fine, so I'm not sure if when I fixed the above I also fixed your issue, or I'm missing something. As far as I can remember, I never got round to implementing the addition of many extra workgroups for Generic templates.

I tried rev 8047 and it worked! But there were a number of issues:
  • Once you close AWB, in order to restore the saved generic templates on the next start, you have to go through these steps:
  1. Plugins -> Load... -> Kingbotk AWB Plugin.dll
  2. File -> Recent settings -> Default settings
Otherwise the saved generic template won't show up
  • I saved the generic template with the name "WP:ROMANIA" and that caused a stack trace with an error like unknown name space "WP:" on step two above. I had to replace "WP:ROMANIA" with "WP_ROMANIA" in the settings file before it could work.

Thanks, it's one of the longest I've done in a while. I think the GOCE tag on the talk page is recommended but not compulsory, but I never bother these days and I've found that some editors, few thankfully, disapprove of my editing style. I was hoping the get all the January 2012 requests finished but the GOCE has discontinued the page for FAC requests and moved even older requests into the main queue! I'll get back to you on movable content; I can add invisible comments to the article if you wish. Anyway, I'll probably start Free Dacians tonight or tomorrow UK time, but RL is a bit busier (in a nice way) now. Suggestions for improvements

Hi again, and thanks for your comments; no worries. :-) Since I finished, a couple of IP editors have done a lot of work on the article and added two tables. I'm basing my suggestions on this version. Some parts of the article drift off-topic; these could possibly be moved to more relevant articles. The second paragraph of 'Origins' doesn't seem particularly relevant, although it's quite short and referenced. A lot of 'Geographical extent' talks about where Dacia was located rather than the language; possibly move to Dacia or Dacians. I've moved 'Fringe theories' up in the order, above 'The fate of Dacian', and moved the first paragraph of 'Fringe theories' to the 'Romanian' sub-section of 'Relationships to modern languages'; I hope that's okay. Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Referinte in introducere

Buna Codrin,

Am deschis azi o polemica referitoare la introducerea unui articol, mai precis articolul despre politicianul Mitt Romney. Polemica se afla la Talk:Mitt_Romney, mai precis in sectiunea "Inline Citations in Synopsis". Problema ridicata acolo e ca referintele lipsesc din introducere, iar articolul e mult prea stufos ca sa il citesc pentru a gasi referintele.

In decursul polemicii, unul din editori prezinta un link catre WP:LEADCITE, pe care eu il interpretez ca permitand introduceri fara referinte doar in unele cazuri in care astfel de referinte nu au fost in prealabil cerute.

Cum ar trebui abordata o astfel de problema? Consider ca persoana lui Mitt Romney e suficient de controversata incat o acoperire completa cu referinte sa poata fi ceruta cu succes de catre cititori. Daca observatia mea la adresa articolului are merit si creeaza un precedent in materie de interpretare, cum se poate transmite aceasta interpretare in documentatia oficiala? Intreb asta fiindca s-ar parea ca exprimarea actuala in WP:LEADCITE poate da nastere mai multor interpretari.

Steme România

Salut. M-am înscris mai demult în WikiProject:Romania. Din cauză că multe sunt la rezoluție mică sau de calitate slabă, deși apar pe multe pagini, m-am apucat de vectorizat stemele județelor din România (dintre care am uploadat 8 acum). Aș avea niște întrebări, dat fiind faptul că nu prea mă descurc cu pățile organizatorice:

1. Există vreun sub-proiect dedicat heraldicii din România unde se discută chestii conexe?

2. Există vreo metodă de a populariza noile imagini vectoriale dincolo de tag-ul «vector available|fișier.ext» de pe pagina fișierului-sursă? Întreb pentru că sunt multe pagini care trimit spre stemele românești, însă eu nu prea am timp să editez pagini, dar totuși aș vrea să fac noile fișiere mai vizibile.

  1. Nu exista (deocamdata) un sub proiect la WP:Romania. Deabia sunt colaboratori si activitate in proiectul principal. Poate pe viitor, cand se vor strange mai multi, initiezi tu unul :-) Pentru subiectul "heraldry" in general, pe en:wiki poate te poti uita la Wikipedia:WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology iar pe commons la commons:Commons:WikiProject Heraldry. Cred ca vei gasi colaboratori pentru subiect.
  2. Pentru popularizare, iti recomand sa scrii la Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Romania, commons:Commons talk:WikiProject Romania, ro:Discuție Proiect:România si mai ales la ro:Wikipedia:Cafenea. Sugerez sa postezi si pe proiectele de heraldica mentionate mai sus. Dar dupa ce termini tot setul, si daca feedback-ul e positiv pe paginile care le-am mentionat (nu va de ce n-ar fi, sunt bine lucrate imaginile), singurul mod este sa editezi toate judetele pe en si ro wiki si sa schimbi pozele. Petru editari in masa, iti recomand Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser.

Hi, Codrinb. I was wondering whether you could help me disambiguate two place names at Terra (mythology)#Prayers and rituals, as my knowledge of geography in Rome's Danubian provinces is poor. Hi there! This was a tough one, especially since the locations were confusing. The source cited was talking about Ljubija in Pannonia not Moesia, hence the probable location is the one in Bosnia. The Rudnik one was not easy either, since I found conflicting sources about its location. But the most likely I think is the mountain I selected. Hi Codrinb. I looked into your request for a third opinion and decided that one was no longer needed. More than two editors are now involved in the Thraco-Roman discussions and the Daco-Roman dispute appears to be reaching a resolution. Multumesc pentru aprecieri!
  1. Legat de Troglodytae, am adaugat o fraza in articol legat de tribul mentionat de Strabo in Scythia Minor. Fiind un nume generic pentru multe triburi mentionate de antici in tot felul de locuri, e destul de discutabil daca ar trebui sa fie listat acolo. Probabil ca Strabo se lega de bordeiele semi-ingropate in pamant folosite de acei "trogloditi". Se pare ca unii din stramosii nostri le foloseau, si se mai gaseau inca prin satele romanesti din unele regiuni pana nu demult
  2. Cat despre campaniile italienilor, nu stiu nimic, si nu ma mira, pentru ca imi petrec foarte mult timp pe WP "luptand" cu "campaniile anti-romanesti" care se desfasoara si aici. Poate ma directionezi spre forumul respectiv, desi nu prea am chef de conflictele interminabile legate de origini.
Daca esti interesat de subiect, te invit sa colaborezi la WP:DACIA si WP:ROMANIA. Avem mare nevoie de ajutor. Numai bine!

I thought to let you know that the criteria applied to review of GA nominations (see: WP:WIAGA) specifically instruct reviewers to fail such nominations without any further review. Should Avaria be a disambiguation, as Avar is? Or maybe redirect to Avar? If not, how is it determined whether the Khaganate or the Khanate is the WP:primary topic? I appreciate your effort on Etruscan cities but it is rather double work. The Etruscan city of Emporium (Italy)now links to Empoli. And the city Cassina for example, links to the modern city of Cascina. Both Empoli and Cascina were already linked... The Banner talk 21:53, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Language-population update project

Hi. The 18th edition of Ethnologue just came out, and if we divide up our language articles among us, it won't take long to update them. I would appreciate it if you could help out, even if it's just a few articles (5,000 articles is a lot for just me), but I won't be insulted if you delete this request.

A largely complete list of articles to be updated is at Category:Language articles citing Ethnologue 17. The priority articles are in Category:Language articles with old Ethnologue 17 speaker data. These are the 10% that have population figures at least 25 years old.

Probably 90% of the time, Ethnologue has not changed their figures between the 17th and 18th editions, so all we need to do is change "e17" to "e18" in the reference (ref) field of the language info box. That will change the citation for the artcle to the current edition. Please put the data in the proper fields, or the info box will flag it as needing editorial review. The other relevant fields are "speakers" (the number of native speakers in all countries), "date" (the date of the reference or census that Ethnologue uses, not the date of Ethnologue!), and sometimes "speakers2". Our convention has been to enter e.g. "1990 census" when a census is used, as other data can be much older than the publication date. Sometimes a citation elsewhere in the article depends on the e17 entry, in which case you will need to change "name=e17" to "name=e18" in the reference tag (assuming the 18th edition still supports the cited claim).

Remember, we want the *total* number of native speakers, which is often not the first figure given by Ethnologue. Sometimes the data is too incompatible to add together (e.g. a figure from the 1950s for one country, and a figure from 2006 for another), in which case it should be presented that way. That's one use for the "speakers2" field. If you're not sure, just ask, or skip that article.

Data should not be displayed with more than two, or at most three, significant figures. Sometimes it should be rounded off to just one significant figure, e.g. when some of the component data used by Ethnologue has been approximated with one figure (200,000, 3 million, etc.) and the other data has greater precision. For example, a figure of 200,000 for one country and 4,230 for another is really just 200,000 in total, as the 4,230 is within the margin of rounding off in the 200,000. If you want to retain the spurious precision of the number in Ethnologue, you might want to use the {{sigfig}} template. (First parameter in this template is for the data, second is for the number of figures to round it off to.)

Dates will often need to be a range of all the country data in the Ethnologue article. When entering the date range, I often ignore dates from countries that have only a few percent of the population, as often 10% or so of the population isn't even separately listed by Ethnologue and so is undated anyway.

If Ethnologue does not provide a date for the bulk of the population, just enter "no date" in the date field. But if the population figure is undated, and hasn't changed between the 17th & 18th editions of Ethnologue, please leave the ref field set to "e17", and maybe add a comment to keep it so that other editors don't change it. In cases like this, the edition of Ethnologue that the data first appeared in may be our only indication of how old it is. We still cite the 14th edition in a couple dozen articles, so our readers can see that the data is getting old.

The articles in the categories linked above are over 90% of the job. There are probably also articles that do not currently cite Ethnologue, but which we might want to update with the 18th edition. I'll need to generate another category to capture those, probably after most of the Ethnologue 17 citations are taken care of.

Article upgrade assistance request (Pre-translation stage)

Seasons Greetings,

This is in reference to a relatively new umbrella article on en-wikipedia named Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is a human tradition since ancient times; either existed in past at some point of time, or still exists in some cultures across global continents from north to south & from east to west. Ceremonial poles are used to symbolize a variety of concepts in several different world cultures.

Through article Ceremonial pole we intend to take encyclopedic note of cultural aspects and festive celebrations around Ceremonial pole as an umbrella article and want to have historical, mythological, anthropological aspects, reverence or worships wherever concerned as a small part.

While Ceremonial poles have a long past and strong presence but usually less discussed subject. Even before we seek translation of this article in global languages, we need to have more encyclopedic information/input about Ceremonial poles from all global cultures and languages. And we seek your assistance in the same.

Since other contributors to the article are insisting for reliable sources and Standard native english; If your contributions get deleted (for some reason like linguistics or may be your information is reliable but unfortunately dosent match expectations of other editors) , please do list the same on Talk:Ceremonial pole page so that other wikipedians may help improve by interlanguage collaborations, and/or some other language wikipedias may be interested in giving more importance to reliablity of information over other factors on their respective wikipedia.

Timeline of Romanian history

Thanks! I was thinking of dividing the timeline by centuries, similar to the Timeline of Croatian history I've recently been working on.
