Animation[edit]
Hi Cristina, I put together the animation using photoshop's counterpart called Adobe ImageReady. The animation only consists of something like 7 frames that repeat in a loop. The way you can do it is to prepare the start frame and end frames, and there's a process called Inbetweening or "tweening" that creates the intermediate frames between the start and finish position. See the article on Inbetweening for more on the basic principle. Tweening is the core technique of this kind of animation, and the key is to produce good start/end frames. For animations that need to change directions multiple times, set up additional key frames to tween between.
Since I wasn't that familiar with the program, to get the animation I wanted I had to do some rather elaborate object manipulation that probably could have been done easier a different way. Since my version of ImageReady is quite old, there is probably a newer product that would be easier. I haven't tried it yet, but Adobe's Flash Animation looks promising. The basic idea for animated .gif is to make a set of frames and combine them, so you could draw each frame individually in a vector editor like inkscape, my personal favorite, and then combine the individual .gif into an animated .gif. Inkscape also offers an interpolate command, similar to tween, that can also morph shapes to prepare individual frames, which is very powerful.
