- I've renamed ChaserWP to Chaser. I thought you didn't need rename: you have SUL "Chaser", there was no such account in ru.wiki and you could just enter ru.wiki using your login\password and account "Chaser" in ru.wiki would be created Rubin16 (talk) 17:24, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Source Code Poster.Jpeg

Hi, per your note on this page, I posted my reply on my page HERE, but maybe you expected it here since you haven't replied for several days. So here was my reply:
"That photographic image is wonderful. How did you find it??? It shows that Churumba was a "fighter." He is credited with forcing the descentralization of the state government in PR via court battles that resulted in the Law of Autonomous Municipalities and the yielding of power from the central government to the municipalities. Until then, the municipalities had been nothing else than mere agents of the central government to carry on its functions rather than executors of the will of its local constituencies. Thus, for example, the Representative from Ponce in the State Legislature had more power than the Mayor of Ponce.
"As such I think we should use that new image in the body of the article to portray that fighter quality of Churumba. However, how do we know that photo is not copywrited? Either way, and in any event, I would still use the image photo of the painting of Churumba in the infobox. It makes the article more presentable (because it is a portrait) than the photo (not a portrait). Of course, I would use it only as permitted by fair use gidelines. ITN candidate entry
Hi. Although it's at the bottom of the list, is there any chance that the blizzard entry could be posted given that the article is improved to a reasonable level in time? It appears to be more recent than Cyclone Yasi. I am currently working on integrating more information about Canadian impact into the article, so it should be "ready" soon. I see that you recently changed the portrait of Mubarak on T:ITN on the Main Page. If I'm not mistaken, File:Hosni Mubarak ritratto.jpg is not protected. So we won't have Δ (talk · contribs) railing on WP:AN again, could you protect the image or find someone on Commons to do it? If I am mistaken and the image cannot be vandalized, just ignore this message—I'm not very knowledgeable about protection and images. Goodvac (talk) 23:55, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

"lockstep"
Hi. I noticed that at Angers Bridge, you wrote that the collapse was caused by soldiers marching in lockstep. Did you mean lockstep in the original sense, where prisoners marched with each one's hand on the shoulder of the man in front of him, so close that each one's front foot was next to another man's back foot? If so, it could use a citation for this unusual practice for soldiers (though the OED has a quotation suggesting that French soldiers practiced it). I see there's a new sense, just "in step", moving the same leg at the same time, as in this picture. If that's what you meant, it's not in dictionaries and I'm not sure it's encyclopedic English yet.
The first citation I could find at Google Books for "'Angers Bridge' lockstep" was from 2006, which I think is recent enough for it to be the "in step" sense. —JerryFriedman (Talk) 19:34, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

- Okay, thanks. (That was fast for someone on a break!) Actually, the article may need some revision, as the .fr article says the claim that the soldiers were marching in step was doubtful, as there was a standing order for soldiers to break step while crossing a bridge. The other version of the story is that the bridge collapsed because of rust, a storm, and the soldiers' attempts to go from one side to the other to stop it from swaying. There seems to be some confusion, though—one source for the French article doesn't say what the article says. I'll try to look into this. - Yes. You and Passionless recently had a conflict here. You then commented in this discussion. Commenting there was fine, and I do not assume that you were following Passionless. However, the way you commented was not OK. You singled out one person in the discussion ("What user:passionless says is simply false") instead of only commenting on the issues (for example, "These types of attacks do not happen every day"). In doing so, you commented on the person, not on the content under discussion. I don't care what your intentions were. Your actions and Passionless's actions have the effect of continuing the conflict between you. Clear?
- You've contributed a lot of excellent photos to Wikipedia. I don't want to block you. But content on the Israeli Palestinian conflict seems to be a hot-button issue for you. Please don't leave me with no choice.--Chaser (talk) 20:31, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking the time to respond. I respectfully disagree on a few points.
- First of all I do not believe this report could be called "a conflict". Is every edit warring report is a "conflict" in your opinion?
- In my vote supporting the article for the news, I had do explain why I support, and why the oppose vote was false, so I did. I will go ahead and strike out mentioning of user passionless, but there's no a way my vote could be even remotely compared to what user:passionless has done. - BTW I contributed not only photos. I also contributed more that 70 articles from which maybe 5% are somehow related to I/P conflict. I wrote such articles as The Mountain of Israeli-Palestinian Friendship;Sayyida al Hurra;Liar paradox in early Islamic tradition;Comedians of Middle East conflict;Arab rescue efforts during the Holocaust. - I'm going to be honest with you Chaser, when I saw MBiz's note that he wouldn't take it to ANI, I thought he was warning somebody not to take her to ANI, and that got my curiosity up. I looked at all of the edits in this thread, while I disagree with Mbiz's taking passionless to 3RR (passionless, IMO, didn't even violate 1RR, let alone 3RR), I see nothing in Mbiz's response on ITN or elsewhere to warrant the responses or warnings that you've given her. - That's fine. You're certainly entitled to your opinion (I assume you saw the difference between the current version and the original context). I still disagree, and I'm not alone. Look, we've got an entire ArbCom-sponsored regime of reduced tolerance in this area. We spend a lot of resources on policing disputes, and a disproportionate amount of administrative time goes to disputes in this one area. My solution was to act aggressively to stem a brewing fight on ITNC before it got out of control. You may have handled the situation differently, and you'd have been within the bounds of discretion to not respond the way I did (or at all). But I think I was also well within the bounds of admin discretion.
- Mbz1 seems to suggest above that I have been comparing her actions to Passionless's and equating the two. I'm not doing that. I'm not interested in doing that. Assuming, for the sake of argument, that one was more disruptive than the other, treating them both the same might not have been fair. Tough. Life isn't fair. If I'd evaluated each according to some abstract scale (e.g., level two disruption versus level five disruption), then I'm sure someone would have felt treated unfairly. The precipitating dialog on ITN/C was bad on both their parts. They both were either personalizing or escalating a prior dispute (I'm talking about the underlying content dispute, not so much the report to the 3RR noticeboard). I don't care who was the worst actor. I'm not going to spend a lot of time comparing the two when I know that they were both disruptive. Pragmatically, I decided to treat them both the same. This may not have been the perfect way to handle it, but it got them both to stop bickering on WP:ITNC and it started a productive dialog here.
