Depending on the font and your taste, they may be nicer than the default UTF characters available in standard fonts... (Actually they all look the same when I test in my google docs with different fonts... is there some "fall back" operating that fetches them always in the same font since others are lacking them?) Here on WP it becomes: ♔♕♖♗♘♙ ♚♛♝♜♞♟. Not that bad, IMHO. — MFH:Talk
