A thank you[edit]

Just a quick thank you for your wonderful work on policy! I thought I might invite you to look over the little project I was working on while you drafted better policy. Wikipedia:RfC/User names/Institutional memory has a section focusing on various decisions made regarding religion and religiosity. Best, Kukini hablame aqui 17:42, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have any idea why there are so many strong reactions to the concept of "precedence" here? I have been curious for a while. --Kukini hablame aqui 20:42, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it has a lot to do with people wanting to change things on the fly... they feel that concepts like "Precedence" sound too much like lawyer terms. I really don't think some people fully understand the concept. If a decision against user X is made, and user Y does the same thing, precedence states that user Y should also have a decision against... its just a concept of fairness. But too many people here would rather have the authority to decide against user X and for user Y, thinking that "Oh, these are 'unrelated' although exactly the same, so we just come up with whatever fits the emotion of the time". A community without rules and precedence in decision, is a community in chaos. The faster people realize this, the better. Thanks for your help in creating the rule of precedence. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 20:49, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah...but let us not call it that. I would rather focus on what we need to do to continue developing an equitable and transparent approach on these matters. I found myself becoming inconsistent along with the crowd the other day. This sorta spooked me, so I adjusted my approach to look over the case history. Thus the new page in the project. I find that even those who say they don't believe in precedence here are for clarity in following history and historical decisions, while making their new judgments. --Kukini hablame aqui 20:52, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My age[edit]

Could you please keep my age a secret for now? Thanks. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 18:36, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd rather not. This is because if I did I would have to go to the huge hassle of copieing and pasting. So I don't archive my talk page. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 18:51, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, thanks. But I'd rather not. You see, I rather keep, well, track of all of my comments on one page, rather than going through the hassle of click, click, click, and so on. So, I'm sorry to decline your offer. I hope you understand. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 21:31, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can contact me on talk page or on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday give me a ping on the IRC after 3:30pmish, on Tuesday and Thursday 5:20pmish and in the morning (and possibly afternoon) on weekends. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 21:35, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One of the reasons I turned you down was that I thought it be too much work for you. Thanks. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 18:10, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Another reason was that I don't want my talk page archived, I want it all on one page. Thanks. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 18:29, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point, but I still have to turn you down, well, because I just don't want to click constantly, and plus I think it is better to have one talk page rather than like 5. Thanks for understanding. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 21:18, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Threat on user page[edit]

I didn't create the exit list for the valley freeways, but it will be helpful if someone got the information correctly. I drive the santan freeway daily, I know every exit on Loop 202 and it is open to US 60 East to Globe, the sign for Baseline Rd to US 60 is gone now. So maybe you could update that, since you don't want me to fix that error.

Maybe since you possibly live in the valley, you could find the errors that should be fixed.

I'm not going to remove it, this is a wiki and you are telling me to do, which violates everybody's equal rights. Plus, user:Jakerl copied my entire userbox section (but that was removed). - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 20:52, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RFCN - Assertion of Authority[edit]

Chairboy, by making the statement you did with the wording you used, it was clearly an assertion of authority. I read Sam's RFCN Submission and I fully understood where an violation of WP:U can be interpreted. Your statement read much like a internal memo from a superior officer to a subordinate in a company. Remember: it is not what you say, but how you say it. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 23:14, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With respect, I think you're really quite mistaken. I hope you haven't mistaken our disagreement over the subject of the RFCN with something more insidious. Please re-read the specific message you've taken issue with, and if you remain concerned, I welcome any external input you'd like to bring in. If you believe there's a problem, I'm a big fan of the RFC process and will assist in any way needed. - CHAIRBOY () 04:05, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Change re: Adminship?[edit]

Howdy! In regards to this, seems like a big switch. What changed your mind? If you'd like any help preparing, let me know. - CHAIRBOY () 19:20, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Never really was opposed to adminship, it was just the only usebox that I found at the time that showed I was not an admin (I had a situation where a new user was ranting that I was an admin.) I've found one that better suits my actual position, and felt it was time to change to prevent people from misinterpreting my position. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 19:31, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS, my appologies if I've seemed a bit on the rude side. This week (er, month) has not been the best (not horrible, but somewhat stressful), and it seems that in the heat of discussion, I may have allowed my frustrations from elsewhere spill into my arguments. I'm certain we will still disagree on things, but I will make a consious effort to keep from being, well to put it bluntly, an ass. If I am, feel free to let me know via my talk. Thanks. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 19:31, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, thanks for the kind note. If there was never any disagreement, life would be boring. :D Best regards, CHAIRBOY () 20:30, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From where??[edit]

I can't help it (through the pixie part of the wikignome) - your comment sans smiley worries me just a little, as whether you know the acronym POOMA, the polite definition of which is "Pulled out of mid air", though I learned a much coarser version, which um better fits the uh topic of discussion. Are you sure you didn't want a smiley?   ;-)   Shenme 20:49, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CliosCalamityOfClits[edit]

I see you left the user a username concern template. I was thinking of doing the same. Did you see these (more appropriate) usernames that appear to be in the same "format" (User:EuterpesEulogyOFEuphemisms and User:CalliopesConundrumOfConniptions)? I don't know if they're just socks or meatpuppets or what. Each one has only 1 edit to their respective user pages. I guess we should just keep an eye on what they contribute. Leebo T/C 18:29, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly. I don't think these 2 are username violations, but the 3 of them were registered within minutes of each other, so they may be worth watching. Leebo T/C 18:37, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for informing me of the RFCN. Leebo T/C 20:59, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage[edit]

Hey, why'd you nuke your userpage? I kind of liked it. :) RJASE1 Talk 03:48, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm doing some experimentation. I'm good at straight out and out HTML on a webpage, however, getting things to work here where I don't have total control is something I need to work on. It'll be back up in a while. I know some people say "You shouldn't edit your userpage so much, it isn't myspace", but to me, since I don't have time to do heavy research right now, it gives me a chance to, for lack of a better term, "Blow it all to hell" without actually ruining an article, etc. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 03:52, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note, it wasn't necessary but it is appreciated. I was starting to get pretty cranky there at the end; sorry about that. I still disagree, but will defer to the 85 people who feel differently. --barneca (talk) 10:37, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lilkunta, please refrain from accusing ANYONE of vandalism. As an expert web designer, and COO of a company that builds web pages, I can tell you exactly what happened: YOU added a font tag that was never closed. I apologize if I caused you any undo stress, but with all do respect, you're blowing things way out of proportion and seeing attacks where there are none. I created your userpage as an attempt to contact you while your kept editing your talk page. I apologize if this was not what you wanted, but at times people must do what is done to get things done. As far as the fixing of your page, since each time you saved it you stated you were trying to fix it but were not getting anywhere, and since I had already gone through and removed the problem tags, I attempted to assist you. If our discussion was a major ordeal for you, the best thing for you to do in the future is when someone brings an issue to you, take their concern to heart and actually see what can be done to reach a compromise. Anytime anyone has attempted to work with you you have either blown up at them, or simply stated that you wish to not speak with them anymore. Unfortunately, Lilkunta, every editor here you will have to work with and collaborate with. It is like working at a company where you find a few people you may not like, but you still have to work with them. Again, I apologize if my attempt to assist you caused you stress. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 13:09, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thx. I wasnt blowing up. I am not blowing things out of proportion. I welcomed ur help, but after I saw ur version wasnt what I wanted I asked u to stop. U didnt & neither did metros. I think what was blown out of proportion was starting an ANI on me bc I didnt want ur/metros' help on my disc page. I did listen 2 all ur concerns but no 1 listened to mine ( xcept Leebos ). I said I wont put colour on u all's pages, but I will have colour/font on mine. This u all didnt like nor accept and kept reverting & then the ANI happened. The ANI was just a gang of ppl telling me "u r wrong, ur english sucks, u have a problem, y is it so vitally important, etc"...that is help? That was not helpful or "attempt to work with" me in my eyes. I stated over & over that I dont want to speak 2 Joie bc of previous problems & Metros bc Metros was wrong. My way of diffusing the situtation was to not engage so I asked 4 no further contact. Thx.__Lilkunta 15:26, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The problem people have with your english usage here is that we have people from other countries who may not know that "u" means "You" or "xcept" is "except", sot that is why people asked you to spell out everything. It is confusing to people who don't know what those abbreviations mean. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 15:32, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tempe12 on Tempe, Arizona page[edit]

Why is Tempe12 being removed from the Tempe, Arizona page? It is one of the top five most recognizable company names in Tempe and is a staple at Arizona State University. A simple Google search or visit to Tempe12.com will show it's coverage in Tempe, whether it's pieces in Entrepreneur Magazine, Maxim, FOX 10 News (the local FOX affiliate for Tempe). This is not company spamming at all. It is a simple mention of one of Tempe's most prominent homegrown companies.Davcarst 19:37, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just noticed that you've filled an RfC against Ryulong. While I agree his conduct in blocking the sole purpose accounts contributing at WP:CSN showed extremely poor judgment- I think more discussion with him is necessary before you can say you've truly "tried and failed to resolve the dispute". I have made my own comments on his talkpage about his actions. Would you be willing to postpone the RfC pending further discussions. We could delete it (I would agree to undelete it should you wish it restored at a future date) or simply close it. I don't want to pressure you- but I don't think an RfC filed before proper attempts at resolving the dispute have been made will have the desired outcome. WjBscribe 02:18, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The main advantage I see to you in waiting is that at the moment that RfC will spend as much time talking about the "trying to resolve the dispute and failing" requirement as it will his blocks. If you wait until you and others have discussed it with him and you still find his response unsatisfactory you can restore the RfC. At the moment I think the lack of prior discussion risks clouding the issue. WjBscribe 02:32, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done- I will undelete if you are unsatisfied with the outcome of discussions with Ryulong. WjBscribe 02:38, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so sorry I completely missed the question you asked me on my talkpage yesterday. I do see your difficulty- I think you need to consider what you can realistically achieve against what you want to achieve. I think you are right in assuming that an RfC would not result in Ryulong being desyssoped because (a) it was a single issue (b) he has apologised and (c) I'm not aware of an RfC ever having that effect. You will also have difficulty getting someone to certify the RfC for the same reason. That being said we are not about to forget this incident anytime soon and should Ryulong find himself in trouble for such reckless blocks in the future- this incident will be strong evidence that his judgment can be faulty. I note his agreement to add himself to CAT:AOR but you sould be aware that it isn't much of a concession on his part- see Q.7 at his RfA. Of course the standard recall petition still requires 6 editors.
As I see it the only he could do more that he has not done is to apologise in person on the talkpage of the accounts he wrongly blocked. Other than that I think it might be to your credit to let this matter go- though it should definitely not be forgotten. I for one remain very disappointed by his action and failure to consider the consequence of it at the time. WjBscribe 14:08, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
