It could also be a place to share successes, like receiving Recognition, having an article that you've worked on become a Did you know posting on the main page, become a Wikipedia:Good article.

Feel free to ask questions of the group. It amazes me how much there is to learn... and also how much people learn in a short period of time. Sharing information can make that process a bit less painful and hopefully more fun.

Also, it's meant to be a group forum, so if you have ideas for changing the format or images, etc. of this page, feel free to share them, too.

Introductions

It might be nice to get started with introductions, but I would recommend not sharing any more than you'd want others to read about you. A small group of people will be invited to this group, but others may read the content... so you may want to be careful about giving very specific details. One way of thinking about it is... how much would you are on a public Facebook page?

This is more information than you may want to share, but I thought since I started the group it would be good to give you a bit about who I am:

From the United States, I'm a native Midwesterner, have lived in New York, and am now enjoying living in the American southwest. I like to write about visual arts, particularly biographies of women artists born before 1900, and southwestern history and prehistory. It is amazing how much gets done on Wikipedia - sometimes the collaboration is amazingly simple and rewarding - and other times it can be very frustrating. Some of my favorite things about writing articles is incorporating images that I've found on the public domain or I've taken myself.

My favorite things are international and domestic travel, metaphysics, religious study (a wide range of religions), international cooking and dining, and flying. I can be a tightly-wound A-type personality, but my friends know my other side: slightly quirky, kind, silly, psychic.--CaroleHenson (talk) 05:56, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello. I'm new to Wikipedia contributions, so not advanced enough to have an avatar. I've always been a bookworm, library hound and (some have said) know-it-all. So I'm trying to learn Wikipedia skills so that I can be part of an educational project, as eclectic and vast as my interests. Those include the arts, literature, world history and random events. Anything brewing?

Does anyone have anything that they're thinking about writing about or working on?

By now, you've probably noticed that I like 19th century art. I'm currently going through a list of articles about 19th women artists - and am so amazed by their bravado, skill, and various ways in which they managed introduction of opportunities for women. Right now, I'm working on Eleanor Norcross, an American woman who lived in Paris, developed a large collection of works of art, and with her art work and funding, the Fitchburg Art Museum was born. (Very much a work-in-progress, i.e., needing copy-edits and expansion, at the moment.) This was a fun one because the article was in such a primitive state - so the story has been enfolding as I write. Very cool.

So, the next thing brewing for me is to continue working through the alphabet (by surname).

JKruger13 There's a really cool feature within the bare url's box - Reftools. You just need to clock on the "Reftools" link and it will make an attempt at formatting the bare links for you. Once you click on the link, a new page is opened that attempts to complete title and publisher information - but it should be reviewed to ensure it's correct. Its a really cool, quick and easy fix.

I did that an noticed that there were a couple of sources that aren't reliable sources (they become really evident when you run the tool), but you could check out this search of google news items - blogs for other sources-- I hope that helps!--CaroleHenson (talk) 21:47, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Papeton, Colorado question

Carole,

I am very impressed by your Papeton, Colorado entry, it has been very difficult for me to find out much about it. My grandparents from Mexico bought a house, that still stands, in Papeton around 1912. My father was born in that house in 1926. Other siblings were born there, too, and my grandmother lived there until her death in 1966. This message is really just to say thanks. Could I contact you? Hope I am signing this correctly.

Hi, Carole: I'm the granddaughter of Elenore Plaisted Abbott, the illustrator whose bio you may have written and certainly contributed to. I would like to thank you for your attention to her work and your contributions to her entry. I joined Wikipedia in order to make corrections to her entry, which I have now done. All except one. The Brandywine River Museum has listed an oil painting called "Peggy Harvey and Daughter Bret" with a date of c. 1930. Since I am that daughter, and was born in 1936, this can't be correct. I've contacted the Brandywine to inquire about the painting and hope to post a correction soon. Meanwhile, thanks again. It's so nice to see my grandmother recognized with a Wikipedia entry.
