A question concerning some latin music and a WikiProject

Hey Miranda, I was wondering if you could possibly create an ad for Wikipedia:WikiProject Reggaeton, I asked Gurch a few weeks back but he didn't seem sure. I'm not a member of the project per se but the project is young and it needs some projection to get more members, considering the popularity of the music genre I think they could develop it into a more active project if given the right exposition. Thanks for your time. - 03:30, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, but I am busy at the moment. Miranda 01:57, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Hey thanks, nice work with it I will let the members of the project know now, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:06, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

It's on the project's talk page. Miranda 02:14, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
I just finished adding it to the project's main page also, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:16, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Peer Review

You're right it doesn't work. The Puerto Rico Portal has been sitting there waiting for peer review for close to 3 months now, and nothing. I say go ahead and nominate them, if just for the sake of obtaining suggestions for improvement. I'll try to attend to the discussions as they develop, but I'm leaving on vacation this Wednesday through Labor Day so my time is limited. See if you can get User:Boricuaeddie to help us out too. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 03:29, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Boxing

What you call "bi-champion" does not exist, only in rare cases. But when he won the 108lb. title, the 105 lb. title was automatically vacated. And he's still WBO superchampion unless the WBO takes this distinction off him... (see www.wbo-int.com). Claudevsq 14:46, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

I've participated at both of your FACs. If you solve my concerns, I'll be happy to support. ¡Buena suerte! --Eddie in public 19:20, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Emiliano Mercado Del Toro

In regards to the below comment:

[edit] Importance on WikiProject's scope About this edit [4] Im going to ask you to avoid tempering with project templates without asking for the reason it was rated like that before, the "Low" classification doesn't mean he wasn't important, that is the grade of priority within the project's scope, why "Low"? because we have to worry for nearly a hundred municipalities, historic events, historic figures, prominent polititians and regions before concentrating on his page, you can't compare emiliano in priority with all the island's governors who are "Mid" in classification, he was just the world's oldest man for a while but that doesn't affect our history. - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:47, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Ryoung122"

I disagree 100%. There have been lots of governors, but how many 'oldest veteran ever'? ONE. How many 'oldest Puerto Rican ever'? ONE. Governors and Iris Chacon come to pay homage to these relics of history, not the other way around. I should know...I met the governor of Indiana (Mitch Daniels) who came to pay homage to Edna Parker in April. The fact that Emiliano is unique or nearly so is enough for him to be rated 'mid'. He also had 'charisma' and made the most of his title.Ryoung122 20:52, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

WBO Minimumweight Title

As seen on boxrec.com, Pornsawan Kratingdaenggym will fight Donnie Nietes for the vacant belt on September 30th, 2007. Claudevsq 09:04, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

By the way, I learned today from a phone call with the WBO that they consider Calderón still as "WBO Super Champion", also in junior flyweight now, because of his incredible winning streak in strawweight. As soon as the WBO will update their ratings within the next days, you'll be able to see. Friendly greetings, Claudevsq 18:32, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello. I have just finished sourcing all sentences tagged with {{fact}}. I've reviewed the article, and I think we should put it through a Peer Review to see if it's ready for FA status. I know you don't like Peer Reviews, but I think this one will get a little more attention. What do you think? --Boricuaeddie 02:17, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Reminder to Mentor

Hola Mentors!

Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors

Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.

I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!

Again, thank you for volunteering and you will hear from us again soon! Thelmadatter 19:35, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Thelmadatter

Article Assesment

Hello. I saw that you were mass-assessing articles. May I recommend you read this? --Boricuaeddie 21:37, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Friendy chat

About Puerto Ricans in NASA. It seems to me that these guys who oppose have a little gang that gets it "kicks" from deletions, see: [1]. They do not contribute anyting positive such as articles, to Wikipedia, but enjoy destroying what others have gone through a lot of trouble creating. If the article gets deleted then, I will write bios about the more notable Boricuas in NASA. Cheers! Tony the Marine 07:15, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Te me cuidas. --Pasajero 00:02, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Va a mejorar con el tiempo, el projecto de Puerto Rico tardo como un año en llegar a donde esta, mucha gente ve esto y algunos sin duda van a interesarse, pa' lante con el. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:19, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Assessmnet

I have been re-assessing some articles that you assessed as low. E.g. Rosario Ferré, Mayra Montero, Magali García Ramis. These are rather important PR writers and should not be assessed as low. Can you please be a little more conservative when assigning low imp assessments.--Charleenmerced Talk 19:01, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Sure feel free to re-assess as you like, this where assessed by my standards which figure that we need to focus on the Municipalities, historic events or figures and Governors but if you feel that they are of "Mid" importance I won't revert it, I did this to eliminate the now-non existent 900 unassessed page backlog. - Caribbean~H.Q. 19:06, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Hector Lavoe

I will take a look at the article and copyedit it.--Charleenmerced Talk 19:07, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Ok, I had a quick, very quick lookover. Before I actually copyedit it, can you fix the first 2 parts? It needs a shorter lead in paragraph. You need to integrate most of the first part into Early life. I would do it but I am in class right now and flowing to Puerto RIco tomorrow. I am also being a bit lazy. I will check if I can work on it tonight.--Charleenmerced Talk 19:15, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
    • (the "New Messages" template doesn't appear to be working properly to me right now) The info in the lead is in the article already, perhaps deleting it from the lead will do? Boricuaeddie propposed this a few days back but I personally aren't sure what to remove. His personal life is in the body of the article, the article is formated by chronological order so it has both his professional and personal life blended. - Caribbean~H.Q. 19:22, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
      • I am terrible at copy editing, I think that with my copy edit skills we might probably end with a less concise lead ;) - Caribbean~H.Q. 19:25, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Puerto Ricans in NASA

To all my friends,

As you all know by now, the article "Puerto Ricans in NASA" was deleted and we must accept the decision of the closing administrator I my self am not upset because I know that together we came come up with an acceptable alternative and I encourage all of you to join me in this quest. The creation of a well written list seems like a good idea and therefore you are all more then welcome to use the contents of the original article, which the closing admin. was kind enough to store here: User:Marine 69-71/Puerto Ricans in NASA as its foundation base. Not only do we owe it the Puerto Ricans who have made great contributions to the Space Program, but to our children and people who may someday be inspired by said article.

I admit that I was disappointed that consensus was ignored, but what worries me the most is that this may become a trend for the deletionists who, in some cases, may have anti-Hispanic sentiments, however it is all water under the bridge now. I have already started witting the bios of our scientists in NASA, which can be used in any future project. we may have lost a battle, but not the war. Que Dios me lo Bendiga a todos. Hi, thanks for chipping in at the Duncan FAC. I'd perform some minor edits on Barea. Chensiyuan 16:52, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Nope, I do not know a Mavs fan -- but you could try posting your request on the NBA Wikiproject talkpage. Alternatively, you may try finding his image on flickr, but from past experience, there are not even images of the most popular players. Chensiyuan 00:33, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
I've done what I could on the Barea article, but I should say that GAs do not require an image if nothing free is available. See Shareef Abdur-Rahim, an NBA GA, as an example. Chensiyuan 09:40, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Don't look for mine until at least 2008. There's some stuff that I need to take care of around here, all of which will probably hurt my chances at passing. However, with an admin like you around I probably won't feel the need for the tools like I do right now. Cheers, The Hybrid 06:36, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

If I get really into this place again I may return to my old self, you know, laying waste to the vandals and those who violate copyrights yet again ;). However, my primary goal at this time is to take a more managerial role within the project. I feel that I have a lot of policy knowledge I can use to point this project not only on the right path, but on the path to redemption in the eyes of the larger Wikipedia community. I also intend to give Burntsauce a run for his money. Someone needs to help Moe stall him until these articles get sourced, and since improving articles really isn't my thing I should at least do that much to help you guys. Before I tried to retire I bought this project some time by walling the admins with obscure policies, but it seems during my absence Burntsauce found a way around this wall. I applaud his creativity, but I'm baaaaack. Mwahahahahahahahahahaha, The Hybrid 01:33, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Re:Felix Trinidad

I have no idea about what the guy is referring to. I did notice that the article did contain some POV statements such as "amazing power" and such, but nothing serious. Anyway, you know how it is in Wikipeida, you get all kinds. So, you really think that Puerto Ricans Missing in Action - Korean War would be a good FLC? I will be doing minor work on Corsican immigration to Puerto Rico for a GA. Tony the Marine 03:06, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I just got aware of the legal threat. Consider reporting it to WP:ANI if it persists. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 04:01, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Go for the nom. About the lawyer threat, there is nothing to worry about. The article is fine and the person doesn't have any legal base to fall on. I have seen worse cases and nada. Tony the Marine 05:38, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
It seems to me that any article that has the words Puerto Rican or Hispanic always get attacked. If we receive too much "flak", then take it out. Tony the Marine 06:53, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Puerto Rico MIA

I might suggest List of Puerto Ricans missing in action in the Korean War. Avoid hyphens. --Golbez 10:13, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Picture of Amerindians in Brazil’s page

Greetings.

About the picture of indigenous people in Brazil’s article, there’s really no reason to put it there unless we put up pictures of the Brazilian people you actually see on the streets, which are basically white (50%) or “pardos” - brown people (40%). Indigenous populations represent less than 1% of Brazilians according to IBGE, our official statistics institute. Even when I visited Manaus, one of the largest cities in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest, I saw Mercedes cars in front of luxury condoms, but I didn’t see any indigenous people in typical clothing. The ones I saw were wearing blue jeans and sunglasses. Thus, if we place that picture in Brazil’s article, it will create a false and stereotypical image of Brazil.

Furthermore, I don’t see a picture of indigenous peoples under “Demographics” in “Puerto Rico” – I guess that’s because they represent only 0,4% of your population, correct? Even in Mexico’s article, where they claim 12% of the population consists of “pure” Amerindian people, I don’t see any pictures of them. I asked Supaman89 why he insists on putting that picture in Brazil’s article and guess what? No reply. Sparks1979 13:28, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Obviously, it is unlikely that you will know how to use the tools at first and mistakes are bound to happen, so if you would like to practice using them, with step by step guides to follow, in an environement that you can do no harm in, then why not pop down to the new admin school where we have pages on blocking, deleting and restoring pages, protecting and unprotecting pages and viewing deleted pages. Once again, congratulations and best of luck with the tools. Ryan Postlethwaite 23:18, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Congratulations CHQ! I hope you can answer my question in your RfA (in the support section) at some stage. Enjoy the tools! Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 23:57, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I think it was VG...and I just looked through your archives, and I remember your sig too. Anyways, congrats! Now go empty out those cats :D Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 00:03, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Congrats on adminship!

That's great that you became an admin. BTW, I have a question: Would it be against Wikipedia policy to make an account to test something. I'd like to create an account and take popups for a testdrive. Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 23:31, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

An Idea

Julius Cesar once used the military concept of "divid and conquer". This effective concept has been used by conquering nations throughout history. One of the ways in which this concept is used is by destroying and rewriting the conquered nations history. By making the conquered people of a nation believe that they had no history and that their history was that of the conqueror, the conquering nation would created a sense of dependency and thereby destroy the desire of independence.

When I wrote the "Military history of Puerto Rico", many people were unaware that we had a military history before the U.S. invasion. When I wrote "Hispanic-Americans in World War II" many people were unaware of the extent of the Hispanic contributions to that effort I was even accussed of rewriting history).

When I saw your recommendation about writing FA's on the proceres of Puerto Rico, I told myself what a wonderful idea, but then I began to think to myself "Why not work as a community on the article about the "Puerto Rican Independence movement" and bring that up to FA first?" This is an article that can help educate millions of people in general about the true struggles throughout history, for independence of the island. The true history of the movement can be told, from the ideas of Antonio Valero de Bernabe and Simon Bolivar, Betances, Campos and so on. The history of the slave rebellions, Grito de Lares, Ponce Massacre, Grito de Jayuya and the elections of the 1950's. The history of the different Independence parties and their founders such A. Barcelo, Coll y Toste, Concepcion de Gracia.

Let's say that Betances makes the Main page, many people may read it of course, but maybe if we also had a "Puerto Rican Independence movement" with links to the fathers of the movement, in the main page, it may capture the attention of those who do not know about the movement. I know that if an article appeared in the main page about the "Quebec Independence Movement", I would most likely read it before reading about the founder of the movement whom I have never heard about.

This is just an idea for the PR community to think about and since you and the others worked so well together on the Betances article I thought that I would suggest it to you and let you think about organizing a group to work on it. Tu hermano Tony the Marine 20:07, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Good work!

Dear Caribbean H.Q.

Thanks for the note on my talkpage. I'm glad you became a sysop. Enjoy the tools. Maxim(talk) 23:25, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello !

hello Caribbean H.Q., i would just like to apologize for the misunderstanding you had about my "one small Caribbean island" comment in his/her talk page. I meant no real disrespect and i was just venting at his accusations. Again, not the best way to handle the situation. Thank you for posting that comment! IamMcLovin 04:03, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

No problem, sometimes its just better to ignore that wich offends us. - Caribbean~H.Q. 04:30, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Yeah, this is quite painful. As far as my family goes, it was my cousin, and she should regain gull use of her left arm with therapy. We don't want her driving without full use, of course, so we were going to divvy up the driving, but now that I have an arm injury of my own that's out of the question for me. I should have surgery within a month or two, so I should be fine pretty soon, however. Cheers, The Hybrid 04:14, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Take it easy on that arm and it all should go well, take care. - Caribbean~H.Q. 04:26, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
I will. My doctor said to keep it in a sling, even when I sleep. Later amigo, The Hybrid 04:30, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Sept. 23

Ask for "Betances" to be featured on 23 of September and then I will switch my request for the "Haspanic Americans in World War II" for the 24th onward. I'll only do it after the request is placed so that no one else will jump in and request the 23rd. Tony the Marine 06:52, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

  • There is a minor misunderstanding. You are not supposed to take out my nomination of "Hispanic Americans in World War II" yet. You are to wait until the next opening and then request "Betances" for the 23rd and I then will change my request date. You see, as it is now my request no longer appears and I would have to start the process once more. Tony the Marine 17:30, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Place Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests in your watch list (I have it in mine), as soon as there is an opening then nominate "Betances" and I will make my date change to the 24th. Tony the Marine 18:02, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey bro, we need your superpowers

Could you delete The Rock (entertainer) and move Dwayne Johnson to that page per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names), please? It would save us the time of performing a worthless poll that can't override that guideline anyway. I would really appreciate it. Cheers, The Hybrid 04:54, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks man. Ha, this is awesome ;)! The Hybrid 05:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Could you move the talk page to, please. Cheers, The Hybrid 05:06, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Nevermind, I just realized a non-admin could to that. Cheers, The Hybrid 05:10, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Sweet. Thanks again amigo. The Hybrid 05:13, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

BTW, I don't want to comment on the ANI thread about the pedophile evading his block since such high-profile users as Durova and Until(1 == 2) can surely handle this without little old me, but I just want to say that you have my complete support. Cheers, The Hybrid 05:35, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah they are certainly holding their own there, I just pop evry once in a while and offer my opinion, I can't still see why there is support for unblocking someone that was promoting something illegal, that's is quite a transgresion. - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:45, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict - dang you're popular ;)I've considered proposing a policy that would ban any users who identify as pedos from editing entirely due to the disruption such incidents cause. If someone wants to keep their sickness a secret, then I have no problem with them editing. When they push their behavior as a legitimate alternative lifestyle, and disrupt the function of the community is when I have a problem with them. However, I don't feel like getting into disputes anymore, and I definitely don't feel like attracting any pedos to my talk page. Those people make me sick; I don't need that kind of stress. Peace, The Hybrid 05:54, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I know what you mean, there would be a lot of people citing freedom of speech and all that, aproving it would be a long progress. - Caribbean~H.Q. 06:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Betances

Mi hermano,

After thinking it over, I have decided that I no longer desire for "Hispanic Americans in World War II" to appear on the main page. I want to give that date to "Betances". What I want you to do is, to do what you did before and post "Betances" for the 23rd. You can state that it was my decision and make a redirect to my statement here. Cheers! Tony the Marine 05:49, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you kindly

Re: 1998 Puerto Rican general strike – Thank you very much for your kind praise. I was lucky to find some very good info about the strike, and I enjoyed putting something solid and worthwhile into the mix. I don't suppose you own (or have access to) a picture of the strike? I'll look into the lead – to be honest, I thought about nominating it for GA status, but there's a pretty serious backlog at WP:GAC. Articles about history tend to sit there for weeks without anyone even mentioning them.

Also, just FYI: your userboxes don't show up very well on my screen. (I'm using Mac OSX with Firefox 2.0.0.6) When I click "show", they're a bit of a mess. I can send a screenshot if you want.

Thanks again! And congrats on your recent adminship.. – Scartol · Talk 22:26, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

This is what I get when I expand the first set of userboxes: [3] Note the big smudge at the bottom and apparent cutting-off of boxes on top. I can't really offer any advice on what's wrong, but good luck fixing it! – Scartol · Talk 22:43, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Little help with the status indicator

I have a favor I need to ask you... I've improved my status indicator on my userpage. However, the traffic light isn't right next to the "this user is ___" part when it should (you will obviosly know when you see it).

I was sent here by The Hybrid (you probably don't really know me). So, if you could fix it for me, I'd really, really, really appriciate it! MITB LS 23:44, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Alright. Thanks anyways! MITB LS 02:03, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh hey, one more thing... I'm trying to put a local time indicator on my page (the current time in my location). Kind of complex, but I want the time in my time zone (UTC-7) and in a 12-hour format. If you could tell me the code for that, I'd like that. MITB LS 03:37, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Incorrectly blocked user

Just a note: I saw that you blocked User:85.74.65.73 following a report that I made. It seems I may have made a mistake - the user stated in their edit summary that they intended to re-draft the article (see here [4]), so my report may have been hasty and I would ask that you look at this decision again. Thanks. --carelesshx talk 20:13, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Miguel Cotto

I am a fan of Cotto, and not sure what blanking you were referring to?--PointBlankHeat 04:00, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Thats the WBO title. Do you follow boxing? I don't mind listing the WBO, IBA or IBO if the fighter is not a champion. Cotto is already a wolrd champion and adding minor minor titles to the page gives credibility to the title. (so any fighter who wins the WBO or IBO....easy to win can claim to be a champion on the same level of a CHampion who win a IBHOF world championship title.--PointBlankHeat 04:10, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

I beg you to differ, The WBO gives its title to anybody. The Hall of fame recognizes three titles only, I am pretty sure Miguel Cotto is not needy for the WBO as a championship, its a title...anyways its too late for me, I was thinking about starting an article on Israel Crespo he was a great amateur in the USA, I still have to look up his amateur record (if you have info about his early career it will be appreciated), he is puertorican died yesterday (21yo), I have to go, but please consider cleanning up the titles in wikipedia. I saw some fighters with 7 titles its just degrading to the effort of true champions like Cotto.--PointBlankHeat 06:05, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

a little help

I need your help on something (Wikipedia mainspace related). I have a a bunch of related templates HERE having to do with music (I'm trying to create a standard type of template for all music templates for a certain artist(s)). Anyway, the only improvement on it is the header. I not going to use a "tnavbar-collapsible" for this type of template (which automatically centers the header). I don't know the code to center the header, so could you center it for me? Thanks! MITB LS 05:15, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

You want the headers that are "hidden" to be aligned with the headers on the top, right? - Caribbean~H.Q. 07:04, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes... or more how I'd like it to look: the header on top to be aligned (centered) with the stuff on the bottom, which are are already aligned. MITB LS 23:13, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
That's quite hard if using the center alignment, you see the problem here is that the [show] button pushes the header on the top to the left, that is a perenial problem with the hide/show format not really a problem with the way the template is structured itself. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:41, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Speculation

I removed what was deemed to be speculation from the Josh Gibson page. [5] . YoSoyGuapo 20:02, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

As I have just seen it was removed by user BaseballBugs a few minutes later. [6]. What I removed I do believe was in line with your commentary [7] of "Though these numbers are still based on incomplete evidence, this study does at least provide concrete proof that Josh Gibson was a power hitter of very high caliber." is completely unsourced speculation and the tone in it reeks of pov." YoSoyGuapo 20:11, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Also wondering

I made an edit on the talk page commenting on some of the humorous edits that were done in the past. Which was reverted by User:Coullard. [8] . I later made a similiar commentary along with a few references. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:King%27s_Daughters&diff=next&oldid=158619697 . Which was reverted with the commentary; Revert troll. Again here [9]. I also left the comment that I am going to ask you to cease from reverting non disruptive talk page commentary as well as citations. Would you also please speak to him. I don't want to have to leave a commentary on the Administrator Noticeboard. thanks YoSoyGuapo 20:02, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Josh Gibson

Alright rather than debate about what stats were attained over his Negro League career. Whether or not to count his homeruns or average in other leagues including the dominican league and mexican leauge. I have created and am working on an overall showing of his homeruns and average in a general baseball template. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_Baseball_Career#Baseball_Career Tell me what you think! thanks YoSoyGuapo 20:38, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

He reverted your edit about 3 minutes after you placed it up. [10] YoSoyGuapo 22:53, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

That last tattle was just in case you don't have enough to do already.
If you do not believe it is trolling, I apologize, but it appeared that way, and I put the statement back because I believe it belongs there. As I understand things, being an admin gives you certain responsibilities and privileges, but we still listen to everyone, right? There can be a consensus, and the people who regularly edit baseball articles and understand sources all disagree with him.

The statement is that "As such, it is difficult to separate truth from myth in regards to Negro League stars such as Josh Gibson", after mentioning numbers that vary widely and cannot be verified. It is difficult to separate truth and myth, especially when YoSoyGuapo insists that myth be given full equal time. He is the only editor who thinks it needs to be removed, and it's because he has an agenda: he thinks that because segregation was so unfair to players like Gibson (and as a Negro Leagues researcher, I have no problem agreeing that it was more than unfair), he thinks we should inflate Negro League numbers with estimates and guestimates that include play against all levels, down to picked amateur nines.

YoSoyGuapo (in his alter-ego IP address) has wrongfully accused me of making racially motivated edits, about as personal as you can get. He tries to justify it by pointing out that when I correct a statistic on a Negro Leaguer's page, I use a lower one. I can't help if Gibson did not hit 800 home runs in professional play, and that his amateur and semi-pro work has not been sufficiently documented. I cannot help that he hit .359 in Negro League play, when someone else erroneously claims .384. YoSoyGuapo is being obtuse and simply persisting in his claim. He made trolls to the talk page of "King's Daughters" for no other reason than to harass me. He described ethnic insults that had been left by a previous troll as "humorous". Those edits were removed and a warning put up by Wknight94 if they reappeared, and YoSoyGuapo finds them funny.
He keeps changing his argument as to what is correct (he originally wanted the lifetime count to stay "nearly 800", but now argues that he's googled several articles claiming 962, so that's the new number. He has changed his tactics a few times, and his trolling me on that talk page is simply juvenile.
YoSoyGuapo (and all his other IDs) never edited a baseball article before jumping into Josh Gibson, and has shown no willingness to understand that there ARE verifiable statistics out there, and that there might be others out there who understand the subject better. This was not a controversy until he made it one. He wants it his way. I'm not arguing for accuracy. I'm arguing for verifiability vs. unverifiable urban legend, which the numbers he continually googles and quotes.

Thank you for your time. -- Couillaud —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 23:44, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm unsure as to why he called me a troll because I haven't engaged in those tactics. I took a look at his history as he has done with mine (which is why he knows a little about my editorial history) and commented on an article. I am also wondering as to why he reverted your comment here with the commentary that you (User:CarribeanHQ) is a troll. [11] YoSoyGuapo 00:17, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

I will let a neutral admin without any edit to the article deal with this. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:30, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Crespo

Is it proper to start an article about Crespo? (I don't want to sound biased), is it a goood article or not necessary. (as a list of boxers who died while bein active maybe?)--PointBlankHeat 23:10, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Actually Crespo was ranked #1 in the amateurs and many future champions will come out of the list that fought him in the amateurs, but maybe I am biased because I am associated with boxing. However, he was ranked #1 in the USA at a certain period, in his weight class. There articles about TV reality show pople, why not have an article about Crespo, he fought all his life in the amateurs. If he wasn't a solid amateur I won't even bother, but he was an amateur boxing champion.--PointBlankHeat 23:21, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Cotto at 140 is an exception

Cotto was great at 140, I really don't want this to be a standard of having 4 titles! We are already fedup with 3 titles (that the HOF barely recognized I mean Holmes had to push the IBF down boxing fans throats but thats Larry Holmes and he kept his title, Cotto didn't show interest in the WBO after he moved, any boxer really knows deep inside that these titles are killing us! In my eyes Cotto was worthy of being a champion anyways, he could have beat atleast 2 of 3guys in his days at 140lbs. I will not touch that article, but please support me in cleanning up articles with multi titles (interim titles!). I understand there is exceptions.--PointBlankHeat 23:17, 19 September 2007 (UTC) The Ring magazine, is not credible any more. An active boxer/promoter bought the magazine, so how can we trust it anymore? and why would a promoter/actve boxer buy it!--PointBlankHeat 23:27, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Six months?

A six-month block plus ACB seems like overkill for this guy. He only made one unique edit, and it wasn't blatant vandalism. Wouldn't it have been better if we pointed him to WP:V/WP:UNDUE instead of just hitting him with the banhammer and erasing the possibility of him making constructive contributions? Please reply on my talk page. east.718 at 22:35, September 23, 2007

Looks like I messed up, he's an obvious sock of 196.12.184.89. In that case, you forgot to block him too. east.718 at 22:36, September 23, 2007
That was fast work, I was about to explain the situation but you already figured it out, this user appears to have some sort of grudge aganist Cotto and has been adding this libelous material over and over again ignoring all warnings, I did use the "block last IP" option during his block so the address should be blocked also, in any case if the edits persist I will indef block both of them as vandalism only accounts, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:51, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
While I've got your attention, could you please comment here? Thanks. east.718 at 02:21, September 24, 2007

Could you delete that? Thanks --Agüeybaná 00:43, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Personification

Could you read this and block the user? Thanks. --Agüeybaná 21:10, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Im not familiar with this user's edit pattern, he may be impersonating some celebrity but if he isn't impersonating another user I prefer not to speculate and not block him directly. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:18, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Did you read the thread? The username obviously violates WP:U#CELEBRITY, as the user has admitted to not being the person the username says (s)he is. But, oh, well. You're the admin :-) --Agüeybaná 22:37, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
I read it, but the fact that the supposed celebrity claims the username is not she can easily be a scapegoat, specially since she obviously knows of the account if she is posting about it, I just prefer not to touch it. You will be a bold admin someday :) - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:43, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Hmm. Hadn't thought of it that way. I guess I made a good decision when I nominated you :-) --Agüeybaná 22:45, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
I'll butt it, 'cause I did some diggin' when I realized I'd made a mistake in assuming that Eddie was an admin.  :) But I'm only butting in to thank you, Caribbean, for your opinion. Because I believe that, in reality, both were really the same person, your logic makes perfect sense. Appreciate it. Into The Fray T/C 22:56, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Indef block of User:196.12.184.89

I've noticed you blocked indefinitely sock/vandal User:196.12.184.89. Is this an open proxy IP? If not, you should probably shorten the duration per Wikipedia:Blocking_IP_addresses#Block_lengths. Even "static IPs" change once in a while. A one month block may be more appropriate here, but I leave the decision to you. Owen× 21:58, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

The IP is static, I will leave the indef block for a period of six months wich was the block I originally gave his account for persistently adding misinformation, I will leave the block because the editor has engaged in sockpuppetry in the past and has used his sock to add the same misinformation and libelous material to the page, if any other sock surfaces the block should stay if not I will probably unblock in six moths, if the IP changes and a inocent user asks for the account to be unblocked I will review the case since I have the user's talk page on my watchlist. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:24, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately my time around here as far as article-writing is very limited too... I don't know any members of WP:BOXING that are really active outside of Claudevsq, maybe you should get in touch with him. I'm watching the article now though, and will make sure it doesn't decrease in quality. east.718 at 01:01, September 26, 2007

I'll try my best to help but my time is limited as well since it is my senior year of college, I would try to use another good article as a guide, or use Wikipedia:What_is_a_good_article? as a guide albeit its a tad confusing Maya Levy talk 05:49, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the barnstar CHQ. That's the one that I was waiting for; I was wondering just how much vandal fighting and cruft control that I would have to do to finally get it. Wooo! Thank you so much :). Cheers, The Hybrid 02:32, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I'll pop on over and take a look at it. See you there, The Hybrid 02:37, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Hopefully the problem is solved now. So, how's the admin thing going? Cheers, The Hybrid 02:52, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, though nothing special has ever happened there while this place is booming, after I got a glimpse at the sysop status on the prowrestling wikia I kind of lost my fascination with getting it here. "Just a few extra buttons" really is an accurate description of it. I would like it here simply so I can be more independent, but I've lost my previous desire for it. Blocking people personally rather than reporting them would be very nice, but all-in-all it really wouldn't change much. So, have you been given hell yet? The Hybrid 03:05, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that sounds like it would be more entertaining than anything else. How long did you block it for? The Hybrid 03:13, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Nice. Why didn't you just protect the talk page after 3? The Hybrid 03:20, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

OMG! Oh, that's just precious; I love people like that. So, could you give me a rough estimate of how many unblock requests were denied? The Hybrid 03:27, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I don't think that I've ever seen that. I've seen upwards of 6 unblock requests be turned down before the page was protected, but I've never seen anyone demand a desysopping, or wish for everyone to burn in the fiery pits of hell. *Sigh*, I wonder how long it will be before you are accused of admin abuse. Hopefully not soon. Cheers, The Hybrid 03:41, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I'm certain that the case will fail, but the first case is almost never the last. That's why I dread it for you; it makes people feel more open to start another one. It makes them feel like others dislike you as well. Well, with your cool head it shouldn't present much of a problem. Cheers, The Hybrid 03:49, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Nite, The Hybrid 03:53, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Salutations, we need your opinion

Hello, I would like you to participate in a discussion regarding the Brazil article, and how some users have demonstrated to have some racist attitudes, we need to have a more objective perspective besides that of white-rich Brazilians that have been trying to portrait it as a Scandinavian country.

Here is the link, please put your comment, help us stop racism, thank you. Supaman89 —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 23:51, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

This is amazing. I came here to ask for help and this is what I find.
This user thinks he can call everybody a “racist” simply because they don’t agree with his opinion. He has just done it right here. He is explicitly referring to me as a “racist”, “white-rich” Brazilian, in an administrator’s page. Amazing. Sparks1979 00:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
I already told everyone involved in this issue to either cool it down or get warned for uncivility and that includes both of you, naturally his point of view is his I don't think that there is blantant racism here but rather a continuation of previous conflicts within a group of users, the matter is indeed troubling but I'm not going to partialize myself with neither of the two groups. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:22, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Your comment puzzles me. Why does that include me? When was I uncivil? As far as I understand things, he can have whatever point of view he wants, but he has no right to call me a racist simply because I don't agree with certain edits he wants to make. That is not simply the stating of a point of view, it's a personal offence. Sparks1979 00:40, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
You also did your part, the comment where you mentioned Opinoso's past blocks could have inflamed the situation further. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:59, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, I was called a “racist”, “follower of white supremacy” and a number of other similar things simply because I said I disagreed with their proposal (even though I carefully presented my reasons for disagreeing and my opinion was shared by at least two more users). These are clearly serious personal attacks. Me and other users were unfairly bashed the whole afternoon. After numerous incidents, I reminded Opinoso he had already been blocked several times. I was stating a fact, that’s not an offense.
If what you are trying to say is that I should have simply kept quite and left, considering the aggressive atmosphere, then I believe I understand your point. Nevertheless, that’s such a minor thing I’m sincerely astonished you are equating numerous serious personal offences they made in several posts to the fact I mentioned someone’s past “record” in one of my messages.
I understand you want to be impartial, which is great, but I profoundly disagree when you imply everyone somewhat “acted the same” (unless I misunderstood you). Me and the other editors they attacked never made any offence, our big “crime” was to disagree with them and require a debate in the talk page. They simply “assumed” our reasons were racist, which not violates the “assume good faith” rule, it’s such a clearly baseless statement it makes me wonder if their real intentions weren’t to stir trouble. Sparks1979 01:41, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm not interested in discussing it further, anybody involved that acts in an uncivil way will be warned, regardless of the ammount of uncivility they presented in the discussion, because everyone did their part. Yes being called a racist is a direct personal attack but actually responding instead of ignoring it is just as bad, why? because it extends the situation further, if I were to block people for assumin bad faith I would not only block Supaman and Opinoso but Felipe to, he has been adding comments that assume bad faith about Alex in Opinoso's talk page, not because they are in Portuguese does it mean that they don't count, again everyone assumed bad faith here and if they stop after the recomendation of seeking consensus was made I won't take further action. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:34, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
I think you are trying to be fair, so fine. I don't agree with the way you are "equating" things and people. If someone attacks someone, the victim has the right to defend himself/herself through a reply, as long as he/she does not "attack back". I've never seen a rule here or in real life law codes that states someone has the obligation to "be quiet" once addressed. Anyway if you don't wish to discuss it further, there's nothing else I can do but talk to another administrator. Thanks for your help (at least the fight has been stopped). Sparks1979 02:49, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

I want to kindly ask for your attention for one more thing. I've made a new proposal in an attempt to end that fight. It has been presented in Brazil's talk page. If you, as an administrator, endorse the proposal, it might resolve this problem once and for all. Please take a look and see if you agree with it. Sparks1979 03:04, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Following your advice

I’m here because I want to follow your advice and I need your help.

Yesterday you said: "Now everyone stop the uncivility, the next person to bash another user will get a warning for uncivility". Apparently this had put a end to the fight.

However this morning, user Covarrubias has come back to post yet another message bashing me in Brazil's page, where he now calls me a “hypocrite”, and again is implying I’m “racist” by claiming “clearly you and João made this a race issue”. He also made several unfair statements distorting what I said previously by mixing two separate discussions together. Whatever his motives are, the fact is he ignored your last warning which I quote here.

I could easily rebut each of his unfair and offensive statements, but I prefer to follow the advice you gave me yesterday: you asked me to be quiet to avoid fueling the discussion. That’s what I will do. Instead of replying I’m coming here to ask for your help on this latest message coming from Covarrubias.

I've tried to make a new proposal to end the situation - I'm trying to be constructive. Also, from the very start I had already said I would accept the football picture if the majority wanted it.

Thanks in advance. Sparks1979 13:24, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

It just happened again. Now it's user Supaman89. He is once again talking about "racism" and "white nationalists" (somebody even removed this statement to calm things down). I prefered not to reply, following your advice again. However, I think his attitude can't be overlooked anymore. He continues with his insults even after you said the "the next person to bash another user will get a warning".
Look at his words: "Fine, we just need more people to make this objective (besides white nationalists), still you got my vote, and it'll probably end up like this" Supaman89 16:55, 27 September 2007 (UTC) Another user edited his entry in good will, trying to calm things down, and removed the "white nationalists" part. However, he can't escape Wikipedia's edit history.
I don't think it's possible to participate in Brazil's talk page anymore, until something is done to stop this two editors (Supaman89 and AlexCovarrubias) from insulting other people. At least Opinoso has kept quiet after you warned everyone. I can only hope he got your point.
Sparks1979 19:00, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Supaman has been warned, Alex's comment wasn't a direct attack, it was certainly not assuming good faith but it wasn't a direct attack, if he persists adding such comments he will be warned as well. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:45, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for warning Supaman89, I think he got the point this time, since his latest posts have been a lot more civilized. As for Covarrubias, I really hope this is the last chance you are giving him. About Opinoso, he has restarted his rants, but you don't need to warn him, since another administrator already did. Sparks1979 03:07, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi I noticed your message on a talk page (bad memory) I think we are planning the first cup next year, (maintenance and building the pages) but you can submit your ideas, and your own at My Associated Page for now until we are ready for the final page. El-Nin09 16:40, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Mr Richardson

This... I don't know what to say. The Hybrid 14:30, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

I know he was a bit of a pest and uncivil before he asked me to adopt him, but after that he always tried hard and was quite nice. This is truly shocking. The Hybrid 01:13, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

I sent him an email this morning. I'll let you know if he should be unblocked, and if so I'll forward the email to you so you have something tangible. The Hybrid 01:17, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the actual length. I believe that he needs to be punished. I'm not going to go to bat for him. He chose this, and deserves whatever comes to him. I won't stand in the way if you want to show him mercy, but I'm not going to push for him to be unblocked, either. Peace, The Hybrid 01:27, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Indeed it is. Sigh, this really disappoints me. The Hybrid 01:35, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, but I can't help feeling a bit guilty. I know that it isn't my fault, but I feel like I could have done better. The Hybrid 01:38, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

That's just the thing, though. I didn't pick up on it before, but looking back on it he wanted me to show him how to do things by actually doing them myself, rather than telling him how, and I didn't. I could have given him another adopter, but I was too dense The Hybrid 01:45, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello

Hello Caribbean H.Q.,

I am Minesweeper.007 (The Hybrid’s former adoptee). I've had two goes at applying for adminship. Both failed. (1 & 2). I was told by The Hybrid that I should try admin coaching. I was also told by The Hybrid that you would be the best person to ask. So I now ask, will you coach me so that I will be better prepared for my next RFA? Minesweeper.007 (talk · contribs · email) 16:29, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

I'll do some work on this in the next few days; I think first of all that it could easily be split into two articles, Governor of Puerto Rico, describing the office, and the list, having a list. --Golbez 21:02, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
