Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Hello CaptainIron555! Welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. If you decide that you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place helpme on your talk page and ask your question there. Please remember to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Below are some pages that you may find useful. My Advice[edit]

To revert vandalism efficently, I recommend going to "Filter Recent Changes" to fight vandalism (although it is slow, it can detect many vandal edits). Also for my advice in editing, since you are a member of Wikiproject Comics, I strongly recommend you can clean up (spell check and grammar) the articles related to comics. Also, if you want to greet newcomers, go here. Please see the welcome message above for more info. One last thing, check your watchlist and find some links related to cleaning up articles. Hope this helps CaptainIron555/Christopher and happy editing!.--PrestonH 04:37, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About vacation...[edit]

Hey CaptainIron555, I see you are improving quickly in your editing skills (especially in fixing up articles, teaching IronMan10/Chase the basics of Wikipedia and what Wikipedia is not etc.) Anyways I got a question about your vacation. How long will your vacation be?--PrestonH 02:24, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note[edit]

CaptainIron555, I will be on vacation for quite a while, (see here). During my vacation, I am unlikely going to assist you with your problems or provide you any tips at this time. If you really need help...

  • ...go to the Wikipedia FAQs to see if your questions got answered.
  • ...go to the help contents if you can't find any answers on the Wikipedia FAQs.
  • ...go to the help desk to ask what you need help for if the other 2 methods above fail.
    • ...put the helpme on your talk page as an alternative to the help desk.

I will be editing after my vacation is over. Please don't forget to edit those aricles needing cleanup. Good luck and happy editing!--PrestonH 00:15, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Just a heads up, it is not such a good idea to ask people for autographs in their talk page (which Wikipedia calls it "spamming") because it annoys them and can result in a block in serious cases. Let people sign your autograph book when they have time and (as an unofficial tip) you can get more autographs if you establish a good reputation here (to do that, make a hundred/thousand good edits and edit as often as possible). Hope that helps!

I'm back and I have reviewed your contributions...[edit]

I'm back from vacation! Anywho, I have reviewed some of your contributions during my 3-week vacation and here is my feedback (plus mostly some helpful tips) on your contributions based on the last 3 weeks or so...

  • Are you having a hard time looking for articles needing copyediting? Go to here where you can find a list of articles needing copyediting.

Overall, your contributions for the last 3 weeks were OK, but if you follow all the tips and feedback given above, you will become a better grammar fixer.--PrestonH 05:51, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Want to know how to copyedit stuff the wiki way? Check Wikipedia:How to copy-edit.

P.S. Also, some of your edits have been reverted. If you are upset right now, don't take it too seriously! Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place to increase your ego. If you still believe that your edit shouldn't have been reverted, take it up to the talk page.

Multiple Responses[edit]

My response...

  • (sigh) I don't think we can conclude whether IronMan10 is going to contribute or not. Just give him some time to contribute (Like starting him slow) and try to motivate him as much as possible (like being his mentor). Check his contributions daily just to be sure (Special:Contributions/IronMan10)
  • I personally think you need a little more edits before getting a fancy signature (225+ edits or so like article fixing). Also, getting a fancy sig. is not much of importance or signifigance. Call me back when you get 225+ edits. :)

Major update[edit]

I have found Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings (please use it to find numerous spelling errors). Please put this on your watchlist and "unwatch" Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings/For machines. Then fill in the "new" edit summary of...

Correct spelling per Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings

(Note: The "edit summary" part is optional)

Hope that helps in anyway (If you don't know where to look, go to the "Link to the lists" section and click any link from there (i.e. "/B" means the misspelled word starts with the letter "B") ). --PrestonH 04:32, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Thanks for the update about IronMan10 (tell him about the update and stuff).--PrestonH 05:35, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.S. I have send a message to User talk:IronMan10 in case you didn't know, :).--PrestonH 05:35, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikibreak[edit]

Note: This is optional but doing all this is recommended.

If your school year has already begin, go to here where you will receive a template. Copy the template and paste it on the top of your userpage. That way you can tell me and the rest of the other editors that you are busy because of school and stuff.--PrestonH 05:35, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Please respond to my talk page if you are currently getting this message right now.--PrestonH 05:38, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Random tip (critical security tip)[edit]

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO RESPOND TO MY TALK PAGE IF YOU RECEIVE AND UNDERSTAND THIS MESSAGE.

Make sure your account is secured against users who will try to break in your account. Please read the following...

If your password isn't strong enough in your opinion or weak enough for your acount to be exploited, change it immediately. To change your password (assuming it is vulnerable), go to Special:Preferences and it should be easy from there. Hope that helps! :) PrestonH 03:29, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. BTW (By the way), please check here, please do not edit quotes (you know the ones with the "..." ones and excercise judgement when spell correcting articles.--PrestonH 02:03, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.S. I you find Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings hard to use, you can always come back to Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings/For machines and go from there. It depends what you choose.--PrestonH 03:02, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Important somewhat personal messages[edit]

As your "mentor" and real-life friend in Wikipedia, I have some important messages for you. I strongly urge you to edit at least once per day. Even if you are busy with real-life issues (i.e homework, school issues etc.), try to squeeze a little time to Wikipedia. If you are unable to do edit frequently, I can't help you very much because I can't tell whether your active or not. My words are not meant to be harsh in anyway, this is just a reminder that you should do this. Please do so.--PrestonH 22:40, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Correcting controversy[edit]

Please respond back at my talk page.

PLEASE do not edit in QUOTES! [3] If you see "..." (quotation marks) surrounding the misspelled word, DON'T correct it. If you see any thing like <blockquote>.....</blockquote> in "edit mode", DON'T correct what's inside the <blockquote></blockquote> text. Also if a misspelled word is before the [sic] indicator, then DON'T correct it. Final thing, If a word is in italics, (...) (looks like this in edit mode and NOT quotation marks) DON'T correct it. I know it may be a pain sometimes (and I know I'm a little harsh with these comments), but please THINK before you edit. OK?--PrestonH 02:21, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar[edit]

The Resilient Barnstar
My dearest friend, I honorably give thia barnstar to you CaptainIron555. Despite the countless criticism (and tips you probably don't like you have recieved from me), you are never willing to back down no matter what (and I view that as a good thing). Even though this barnstar is a little (or a lot) early to give to you, the actions of being resistant and never giving up will not go unnoticed. PrestonH 02:42, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. The barnstar that User:IronMan10 gave you a few months ago is not "official" because he only makes a few edits, but it depends on your opinion.--PrestonH 02:42, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.S. If you got the "new message" bar, I was correcting my comments tiny bit. It is acceptable in most cases, but correcting other comments is bad/controversial. Just to avoid confusion.--PrestonH 22:40, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain why?[edit]

Dude, you have not edit in over a week. As I said before, with all the schoolwork and stuff, at least squeeze a little time to Wikipedia (an edit a day on Wikipedia or 5 edits a day on the weekends is perferable). If you have to attend something extremely important (that is without internet connection, tell me a day or two before you leave (see WP:BREAK for a list of templates). If you have been grounded, tell me why have you been grounded after that period of time has been passed (try to avoid being grounded is the best way). No offense, but if you are not motivated at this time, you could at least tell me so I know (If you want to quit Wikipedia, do so while leaving a notice on your userpage or tell me personally via phone call or talk page). Try to make an effort, please. This is an important reminder that you must take seriously. If you are reading this anonymusly (that is without an account logged in) and you forget your password, simply create a new account and tell me at least. I think there is no reason to not edit Wikipedia in over a week with out attending something important (like vacation, funerals, etc.)--PrestonH 03:00, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Premit me to jump in if you will (and yes I realize Preston's comment was in Sep. 2007). Preston probably encourages you to go into Wikipedia and edits at least once a week. This is just to clarify that Wikipedia is optional, and if you absolutely are busy, I recommend that you take care of your busy things first (like homework, chores, etc.) BEFORE going on Wikipedia. It's called priority, and despite what Preston says, you don't always have to listen to him and edit Wikipedia every day. In fact, Preston does not edit every day anymore! (He skips a few days lately.) If you couldn't edit in a week, tell Preston the reasons why, and hopefully he can understand about it. (Yeah, you probably followed this advice before I told you, knowing this was from four months ago. :) )^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 03:43, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apology accepted[edit]

From now on, I'm going to be a little more lienant toward your editing frequency. I've experience the same problem as you (hence not editing for 3 days straight), and I will try to be more sincere from now on. But in my humble opinion, you should edit a little more often, 3-5 edits per week is recommended. By the way, there are more misspellings than "occured/occurred", check here.--PrestonH 04:25, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Try not to edit articles under deletion until everything is cleared up. If you edit an article that is nominated for deletion and it actually deleted, the edits in your contribs will get deleted too.--PrestonH 04:32, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For your conveinence...[edit]

Note: Please reply back on my talk page.

Might I recommend using Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation shortcuts so you won't have to scavenger hunt all the important links on your talk page. Follow the directions carefully. After, you are done doing all that, hold "Ctrl" and press "F5" on the keyboard (for technical reasons). Nothing else to say right now. (If you have any questions, ask me on my talk page ASAP). PrestonH 05:32, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok...[edit]

Come back editing when ever conveinent.--PrestonH 04:51, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About my wikibreak[edit]

Relax CaptainIron555, I will be taking a long wikibreak which means making once in a while edits on the weekdays and making steady edits on the weekends, so yeah and stuff. By the looks of contributions, I see that you have been editing very quickly and I'm impressed by your editing pace. However, your quality of your contributions are also good and I have to tell you one thing, when spell correcting, be aware that certain spellings may be of different English dialects depending on which article you may edit (i.e. American English, British English, Canadian English etc.) Please keep that in mind (If you're confused, go to dictionary.com so you can type the word to check if it is spelled correctly in at least one dialect). Again, I'm glad you are back to editing again and I hope all goes well in real life for you (^_^). PrestonH 03:58, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Remember...[edit]

Just a 2nd reminder, always look for certain dialects in English (American English, British English etc.) Dialects can be deceiving, and you seem a little confused what they mean based on a few of your contributions. Here is this example...

  • flavor (American spelling)
  • flavour (British spelling)

Another example is...

  • canceled (American spelling)
  • cancelled (British spelling)

There are more English dialects, but these are the two general ones you should focus. Remember to think closely when you are spell correcting articles before you actually edit them (see dictionary.com if you are in doubt of correcting the "misspelled" word). Hope that helps!

PrestonH 19:00, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About the 20-edit test...[edit]

Remember the 20-edit test I assigned you in real life. Here is the thing, I'm going to cancel the 20 edit test for a bunch of reasons. The rules were to get quality edits over quanity and stuff, and my wiki-philisophy tells me I shouldn't make you edit (editing Wikipedia is a hobby, not a job). Second, you may be under pressure in real life and I do not want to make the 20-edit test more stressful than it is (one with the "severe consequences" and stuff). Here is the catch in return though, if you don't edit at all, I'm unable to help you. I hope you understand CaptainIron555, and I wanted to tell you later in real life when we meet again in a few weeks, but I do not want to see you panic and all that stuff. Good luck. PrestonH 04:30, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • If that is your request, then I'll upheld the test. I'll make the consequences for failing less severe by the way, so you won't have to stress about iy. Oh and by the way, the links to your signature dosen't work, so can you copy and paste this if possible?
<span style="color:#009000;">Captain</span><font
color="#BFFF00">Iron</font><font
color="#008000">555</font>

Which should like this. (CaptainIron555) If you think there is not a difference, think again. I put links to your user and user talk pages so I can communicate with you more clearly. Rmember not to get to caught up on signatures, because that would be bad in many ways. OK? :) PrestonH 02:34, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merry Christmas dude[edit]

Merry Christmas CaptainIron555! Hey dude, I got a few presents that will make you feel better on Wikipedia...

The Minor Barnstar
Even though you haven't been editing much lately, I want to inform you for all your hardwork in attempting to spell check articles, I am giving you this barnstar for your efforts of helping Wikipedia out. Keep up the good work! PrestonH 22:55, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a master/student relationship, I am proud to say that you are one of my brightest students I have met. I have another student named AL2TB. You can meet him sometime. Anyways, Merry Christmas! PrestonH 22:55, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi![edit]

Hey, nice to meet you! As a student of PrestonH, do you meet Preston in real life, like in school or something? I meet him in my math class at 7:00 AM every school day. ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 05:05, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Website[edit]

You mean my website I had a link to on my userpage? It's the use of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). If you don't know how to use those, don't fret about it (well no one in the world was born with computer knowledge! :D ). If you wish to learn about it, then you can always ask me about it on my talk page. ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 05:11, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, it's sure quite a while since you last went on Wikipedia. Do you plan to stay? ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 05:11, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Response[edit]

Well what type of userpage do you want me to help you with? Background colors, font colors, font styles, images, etc.? ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 22:40, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I can create a green background for you... but what kind of green (light green, dark green, medium green)? Do you want a matching border with the background? And as for the Anime pictures, I don't know your tastes in Anime, so you're going to have to upload your images yourself. I recommend doing it at the Wikimedia Commons... you can create your account there, too. The Commons is because that's the only place you can upload any image you want yet it can be used on any Wikimedia project. Wikipedia on the other hand only allows uploading fair use (sad, I know). ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 23:46, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi![edit]

Tell Preston I said hi back. :D ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 23:50, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You got mail[edit]

You got personal e-mail from me. PrestonH 20:50, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Customized your userpage[edit]

I was finally able to decorate your userpage upon your request. Check your userpage! (By the way, I forgot you wanted green, and I gave you blue instead. Sorry! :D )

Anyways, you may edit and modify the userpage's layout to your custom, and you do not have to give me credit. On the other hand, if you don't like it, you can revert my edit. For the anime pictures, however, I don't know your tastes in Anime, you never told me yet. ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 03:02, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent messages[edit]

For your convienence, you got new messages at this section. I won't edit everyday as you can see thru my contributions due to a busy schedule, and I just want to let you now as a teacher that editing Wikipedia is optional. I won't make any editing reinforcement anymore as I understand you have a busy schedule as well. I have change my teaching ways a little, so you can always seek help from me or AL2TB. Best of luck, CaptainIron555 :) ) PrestonH 16:28, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I do not have as much intimate knowledge as Preston does about Wikipedia, but ask me anyway if you need help when Preston is not available, and I'll see what I can do. ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 02:33, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More e-mail[edit]

You got more e-mail from me. For future reference, please check your e-mail at least a few times a week (if that's possible). But I'm not requiring you to do so (it is recommended). PrestonH 00:48, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • You got more e-mail from me. Hopefully, I'm not bothering you, but you should kinda read the message I sent you. PrestonH 03:00, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
