BC/AD vs. BCE/CE

I just noticed you'd reverted a change I'd made (I'd changed BC/AD to BCE/CE) in "Jubilee (biblical)" (back in February). Why? Thanks. Windtheme (talk) 16:56, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Time Traveler (1980 video game) > page move request

Please move Time Traveller (video game) (wrong spelling with 2 LL's) to Time Traveler (1980 video game). Hippo99 (talk) 03:50, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

You need some sources to show the one L as both the links given in the article have two LL's. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 05:32, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
The correct title is indeed spelled with ONE L. (TraveLer) While some site names spell it with 2 LL's, the in-game shots of the title screen and the game itself (see 2 links) always spell with ONE L. Therefore, 1 L is correct. Best regards, Hippo99 (talk) 05:50, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Check the link before reverting. Gallup data was updated since 2011 and I am updating the numbers in the article manually right now. It's very demotivating to spend a lot of time just to be reverted like this. Qbli2mHd (talk) 15:45, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Unionville, Ontario

Sorry about this! The unregistered individual who kept making uninformed changes to this article, has now registered as Unionvillian. I have left him or her a message asking for dialog, and warning that he/she may be blocked, but if anything the attacks have intensified! Can you do anything? TIA Jpaulm (talk) 00:35, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for warning Unionvillian! He/she has done it again since then (and I have just undone it) - would s/he necessarily see the message? If yes, one wonders why s/he won't engage in a real discussion! Jpaulm (talk) 02:49, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
I see you have given Unionvillian a final warning - for which many thanks! However his/her most recent contribution to the Unionville article seems to me to have gone over the edge - s/he seems to regard WP as a personal soapbox (including personal attacks), rather than an encyclopedia. Does this raise any general administration issues - or is this just the kind of thing WP has to live with? I've never run into this before since I've been editing WP articles! Any specific or general help or advice would be appreciated! Jpaulm (talk) 14:27, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Don Hamilton is the Ward 3 councillor - not a WP editor, as far as I know. I am not even sure if this is a correct description of his personal opinions are. We haven't involved him so far, but I have no idea what is the protocol when a municipal official is named explicitly in this way. There isn't a lot of WP expertise out there among the town officials... TIA Jpaulm (talk) 16:13, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Many thanks - yet again! Jpaulm (talk) 21:05, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Unionvillian is at it again - see recent changes. I missed one of his, so had to revert plus adding a valid change (from raysonho). This is getting annoying! Also I note that by inflating the size of Unionville, the Unionvillian makes Unionville out to be mostly Chinese. This would perhaps be interesting... if it were true... Can we get a permanent block? TIA Jpaulm (talk) 19:45, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi CambridgeBayWeather, I just got to wondering if Unionvillian was blocked - I see he is, for which thanks! - and discovered that he had deleted your messages from his talk page! I assume a) that this does not affect his status, and b) that he is not blocked from doing this again (I reverted his change). But it does seem a little strange! Just thought I would let you know - and thanks again for your help! Virtual brownie for you! Jpaulm (talk) 21:28, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! Yes, I thought he was probably allowed to - I still think his behaviour is less than ethical! :-) Regards, Jpaulm (talk) 02:16, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi CambridgeBayWeather, he's at it again! He must have much more spare time than I do! I have to check this d**ned article twice a day, and it's getting to be a real pain in the neck! Plus, he again deleted many of the warnings on his talk page - I know he is allowed to do that but it doesn't send a very good message... :-) Can you do anything - I really don't have time for this nonsense, and it's costing you time too, I imagine! Regards and TIA Jpaulm (talk) 02:14, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
He did it again! Plus, he deleted your final warning - maybe he thinks that this will reverse the effect of your warning! Actually I have no idea *what* (or if) he is thinking!...  :-) Jpaulm (talk) 03:05, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi CambridgeBayWeather, thanks for blocking Unionvillian and for reverting his change to Unionville, Ontario. I guess I don't understand why we can't simply block him permanently...? When he is blocked for a few hours, as we have been doing, he just waits until the period is over, and then resumes his bad behaviour! I know that, if he is blocked permanently, he will probably just create a new account and continue, but it would help. Surely Wikipedia has some more complete defense against this? As it stands, nobody can use the article for definitive information except when he is blocked! Also, I know he has modified articles about surrounding communities, and he does not leave me any cycles to check them out... Help!!! Jpaulm (talk) 01:52, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
Yes, that's the polite thing to do! Glad to know you are staying on top of this! Thanks! Jpaulm (talk) 14:08, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
Unionvillian tries again - TBrandley is on top of it! I have thanked him or her! Just a FYI! Jpaulm (talk) 02:16, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
I see several more people are monitoring this article, which is great - the pattern of recent changes is interesting! Time for a ban on Unionvillian yet?! Jpaulm (talk) 14:47, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Thank you your welcome message. I am a private pilot/glider pilot/glider instructor (currently retired). I also do restoration work with the Tiger Boys Aircraft Works in Guelph. I have been doing research on BCATP airfields in Southern Ontario for the past year and a half. I will be writing an article on the No. 4 Wireless School (in Guelph) sometime later this year. Getting the block template right

Hello, CBW. When I posted a block message on User talk: 91.155.236.125 just now, I noticed that your message above mine was neater, with your sig inside the template. I've tried various parameter names to achieve that effect, but in vain. How do you do it, please? (The IP returned to the same disruption as soon as your one-month block expired.) Bishonen | talk 20:53, 2 August 2013 (UTC).

Update: no he didn't, I misread the dates. I'd still like to know how to get the sig to behave in the template, though! Bishonen | talk 21:07, 2 August 2013 (UTC).

BCATP School Numbers over 30

Hi There in Nunavut. I may have an answer to your question: Why do some BCATP school numbers jump from 34 to 31? or start at 31 and then get re-numbered? (as in the OTUs). The answer is found in "Hatch" around the middle of the book. Sometime late in 1941 or early in 1942 a decision was made to move certain RAF schools to Canada lock, stock, and barrel. They were operated by the RAF and used RAF personnel. The best example of this is the OTUs. Under the original BCATP agreement there were no OTUs in Canada, and aircrew graduates went to England for OTU training. Sometime in 1942 the agreement was changed and the RAF OTUs were "Canadianized", and quite often had their numbers changed from "32" (or something like that) to "26" or "7".

Good morning

Just wondering, how's your summer? I know the days are getting a bit shorter but I hope it's still nice in your part of the world. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:04, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Really nice thanks. Its been hovering here in Vegas around 100-105 F (haven't had any of those 110+ scorchers) while at my other home in Nevada City, CA it's been a typical summer, in the 80s-90s. Crazy busy at work; nothing new there. Glad all is well with you. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:40, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

I guess it's all in what we get used to, such as your cold winters. I moved to LV 3.5 yrs ago for a job and the first summer felt "hot" but maybe I'm turning into a lizard as the heat doesn't bother me anymore. I'm not sure how you get around in the cold winters. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:10, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Qiviut Spam?

Please explain why you reverted the changes I made to the Qiviut site and marked the addition as spam. How is the information I added, which is factual, spam. I will revert the change back and expect that you will start a discourse relating to this change or I will report you as starting an edit war without allowing discussion.

I will start the discussion on the talk page.

July 9 deletion nominations by Techatology

Dear CambridgeBayWeather: On July 9, User:Techatology nominated three articles for deletion that were in Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation.

No one but Techatology spoke for deleting these articles, and shortly after that he was found to be a sockpuppet who had submitted a number of articles to the Afc under another username and was approving them himself, disguising this behaviour by performing other tasks in the Afc: declining articles without helping the editors (sometimes doing several less than a minute apart), moving user submissions to the wrong spaces, making these nominations of articles which, because the creators are new users, are usually given some slack and time to get their articles in shape. It may be that these articles will never be any good, but I hope that you will take one more look at them in the light of this information. I am sorry that I didn't speak up at the time, but until recently I was unaware of the existence of Mfd. Thanks for your consideration. —Anne Delong (talk) 05:37, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Arctic Council page

I note that you have reverted to an older version of the page explaining the Arctic Council. The revisions I made were to take into account that Permanent Participants (Indigenous Peoples groups) have a special role in the workings of the Arctic Council. I also corrected some language with regard to observers to the Arctic Council, including deleting the reference to observers being members. I would appreciate knowing your rationale for the changes you made.

Some of the material, but I wasn't sure how much, was copied directly from the Arctic Council website. As per Wikipedia:Copyrights material like that has to be removed. Springwater (Barrie Airpark) & Treherne (South Norfolk Airpark)

Hello. While reviewing airport articles using disambiguation within parentheses (see User talk:Zyxw#Enterprise Municipal Airport (Oregon) and Talk:Enterprise Municipal Airport (Oregon)#Requested move 14 October 2013), I came across two articles you created: Springwater (Barrie Airpark) and Treherne (South Norfolk Airpark). Could "Airpark" be moved outside the parentheses, such as Springwater (Barrie) Airpark? If that is not appropriate based on your references, perhaps Springwater (Barrie Airpark) Aerodrome (similar to the formatting of Strathmore (Appleton Field) Aerodrome)? Otherwise the phrase within parentheses appears to be disambiguation rather than part of the name. Thanks. -- Zyxw (talk) 18:15, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Re-Jannah picture page

That isnt Jannah, no-one knows what Jannah looks like. Why even portray a human interpretation for a wiki page describing something? the picture doesnt even see to be related to our belief and may be giving a false impression of the religion with the creatures and background. This is describing a religion's paradise and isnt even accurate with the descriptions of Jannah in the holy Quran. Also, we dont know what it looks like lol so how can a picture posted on a wiki page that may give false impressions of Islamic belief be allowed there? All the people who search for it may see the pic and think it may be accurate in someway or form to Islamic belief. Which it isnt, therefore please stop re-posting the picture.Patience99 (talkcontribs) 20:05, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Re- Jannah page picture

That isnt Jannah, no living human knows what Jannah looks like. This is describing a religion's paradise and isnt even accurate with the descriptions of Jannah in the holy Quran. Unionville, Ontario

This constant vandalism is still going on - by an individual calling him/herself Unionvillian, Markham1, JPaulm2 (briefly), as well as sundry IP addresses before you kindly semi-protected this article back in December of last year! JPaulm2 was banned because he thought he could get away with making a sock puppet of Unionvillian. When he was bannedd, he accused me of hacking his machine! Markham1 is also clearly another sock puppet, based on the same material coming up over and over again, although I of course can't tell if s/he is at the same IP address. I approached Versageek about Jpaulm2 because he can check these things - but he seems to be rather busy right now. This vandalism has got to stop!!! Here is what I wrote to Versageek: "Yup, Markham1 is definitely a sock puppet of Unionvillian, JPaulm2, etc. If you look at the history of Unionville, Ont., it becomes very clear! The population of Unionville fluctuates between 30,000 and 80,000! Hope no poor soul is trying to do research for a term paper or something! Can we just lock the page, or give ownership to one individual? Just wondering..." So I'm wondering if Wikipedia is helpless to do anything about this kind of behaviour. Every few days I wearily check the article and wearily do an undo! This basically the only Wikipedia work I do these days :-( So any ideas you may have would be very welcome! TIA Jpaulm (talk) 02:21, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks CambridgeBayWeather! So that means that nobody can modify it until the end of the month - right? And I assume it reverts to semi-protected after that... I guess there is no permanent solution available in Wikipedia - I don't know what could be done short of designating one individual the "owner" of an article! Have you heard of any other solutions? Thanks anyway - this gives us a couple of weeks' respite! I can report that at the Villagers Association meeting next week. :-) Jpaulm (talk) 02:15, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
Hi CambridgeBayWeather! Looks like the semi-protection came off at the same time as the full protection terminated, and our vandal was just waiting for this to happen, and is back to using an anonymous IP address! Exactly on the 29th! I remember wondering what was going to happen to our semi-protection - at least that allowed us to perform some checks, e.g. for sockpuppetry, etc. We are now in a worse situation! One of my fellow Unionville residents (and VP of the Villagers Association) made the valid point that this behaviour renders Wikipedia useless as a research tool... when the population cited in this article varies from 30,000 to 80,000 and back again in the course of a week, how can anyone use it as a reliable resource. If you want people to trust WP, this problem has to be addressed! Thanks! Jpaulm (talk) 02:31, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Many thanks! At least we will be back to Unionvillian and Markham1, and whatever other pseudonyms he comes up with! The VP of Villagers Association that I referred to wondered why contributors to WP can't be required to register a real name and address, as many other (less important) web sites require - is there any debate going on about this idea? It seems pretty obvious! TIA. Jpaulm (talk) 19:51, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Yes, he's back as Markham1, and we're back to this whole dreary grind (dreary for me - don't know what he gets out of it!). I looked up the perennial issue, and IMO it's way too weak. Editors of WP should be required to give name, address, phone number, and respond to an email. If this has to be done when I order underpants, why can't it be done for something which is a research resource for the whole world?! Lame excuses IMO!! Thanks anyway! Jpaulm (talk) 20:13, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! Maybe it will do some good! If it's a joke, it's a joke that has been running for over a year (read the history of this article and weep) - it's really no longer fun :-( Oh well, it takes all kinds, I guess! Thanks for all your help! Jpaulm (talk) 16:56, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Didn't do any good - he's still doing it! Please take a look at the history record for this article - unbelievable! And to think he has been doing this every few days for over a year - except when blocked! And then he just creates a sockpuppet and carries on! There must be something that someone can do...?!Jpaulm (talk) 20:40, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks so much for blocking Markham1 (again)! It seems such a weird situation - but surely this can't be unique (unusual, but surely not unique) in the annals of WP! Are there any other things we can try? TIA Jpaulm (talk) 22:35, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
The Nunavut one is weird too - but wouldn't semi-protection work there? Oh, you are saying this person changes multiple WP pages - ugh! Jpaulm (talk) 19:12, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

CCLR

Please stop deleting my Harry the cat lives here at CCLR line 70 Lakeside Central. He is the resident mouse catcher and an attraction that people come to see. I will try to post a photo of him later. The cat has no proven notability. How do I know that it is a tourist attraction? You need to provide some sources about the cat. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 22:50, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Cadotte Airport ‎

Don't know what my computer was up to when it reverted your edit (I was probably getting my coffee and it decided to have a mind of its own). Or maybe it was my cat's paw being mischievous... I've had a talking to with her about that previously. Anyway, fixed now. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:11, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Christian Klengenberg - Well, it's very cool that his picture and biography are hanging on the wall at the high school. Hopefully, the vice principal will take the high road and will deal appropriately with the attribution issue. I looked at the article's history and saw that I created it Nov 26, 2009... four years ago yesterday! How's that for timing? Happy Thanksgiving (if you celebrate it tomorrow) and Happy Belated Thanksgiving (if you celebrated it last month)! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:42, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Hello. Nobody seems to know if the name of this site in the NWT should be spelled Sahoyúé-§ehdacho, Saoyú-?ehdacho, Sahoyúé-ʔehdacho, Saoyú-Æehdacho or Sahoyue-Edacho (or any number of other spellings). I thought I would ask you, since I assume that you speak fluent Slavey. Seriously, though, the government sources are all over the map as to the spelling of this site, and if we are going to move the article, I'd rather do it once based on an informed decision rather than choosing a name based on what a bunch of guys 1000s of km to the south guess is correct. Do you have any suggestions as to what sources we should be checking/relying on, or what steps I might take to pursue some further information. Let me know at your convenience. More background on the article talk page. Cheers, --Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:28, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Eritrea

Hi CambridgeBayWeather. A newly-registered account has made a number of undiscussed, disruptive edits on the Eritrea page (removing data, text & images, falsifying figures, etc.). I've explained some specifics here. When you have the time, could you please have a look? Best, Middayexpress (talk) 16:21, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Ok, thanks. Middayexpress (talk) 18:32, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
The username reverted again. I suspect it's the same editor as on the religion [2] and demographic [3] pages. The edit history, arguments, wikilawyering and aggressive behavior are all similar. Middayexpress (talk) 23:04, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
The user reverted you as well. He is now also using ips [4]. It's almost certainly the same user as on the injera page (same geolocation, behavior, etc. [5]). Middayexpress (talk) 04:14, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. The user now seems to be trying to evade his block. Note the registration date [6], same type of edits on injera [7] (i.e. insisting that injera and canjeero are distinct dishes), as well as the .se geolocation [8]. And as an ip on the Horn of Africa page as well [9]. Middayexpress (talk) 15:14, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
A few days seems reasonable. It's the timing and tit-for-tat as well that makes the evasion highly likely. I just edited injera the other day, and this .se username shows up out of the blue arguing the same thing as the .se ip. It's a fairly obscure page too. Middayexpress (talk) 14:30, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
He/she just created another account and is now reverting for himself on injera [10]. Also note the familiar .se geolocation [11]. Middayexpress (talk) 17:17, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
Indeed. He/she is also blocked again for 3RR. Middayexpress (talk) 14:44, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
He/she is now block evading with ad-hoc accounts, and has reverted another user on Eritrea. I restored the page, but indefinite blocks and full protection may be necessary at this point. Middayexpress (talk) 17:46, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Understood, and thanks. Middayexpress (talk) 22:34, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Cambridge, you forgot to put the padlock on the page. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 23:39, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Though blocked, he/she just created another sock [12], [13]. A range block may perhaps be necessary. Middayexpress (talk) 21:03, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
Alright, and thanks. Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 15:56, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

FYI, the editor has remained pretty busy and I re-opened Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Hiyob346. After playing whack-a-mole with various IP addresses, I semiprotected Tigre people‎, Asmara‎, Saho people‎ and Injera‎. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 21:25, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. He/she also appeared on Eritrean cuisine. Middayexpress (talk) 23:22, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi CBW. He/she is reverting again on Tigre people after protection there expired [14], and created another account for harassment [15]. He also had a go at Agaw people [16]. Middayexpress (talk) 14:52, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi CBW. Protection just expired on Eritrea, and another Hiyob346 sock appeared on cue w/ the same old edits. Would you take a look? Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 21:10, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. He just created another sock account [17]. I think protection and/or a range block may be necessary. Middayexpress (talk) 17:35, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Usual bad behaviour by Unionvillian/Markham1

Cmr08 luckily caught this change to Unionville, Ont. - quite quickly I thought! His comment is in https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Unionville,_Ontario&curid=1759208&diff=585075909&oldid=585026027

Markham1/Unionvillian is up to his tricks again... IMO this really weakens the credibility of Wikipedia. I really hate to keep raising this issue, but it's incredibly frustrating that nobody does anything about it - how hard could it be?! Who can I talk to? Jpaulm (talk) 03:53, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, CambridgeBayWeather! That's fantastic! Can't thank you enough... but I can (and do) wish you a very merry Christmas, and a happy New Year! All the best! Jpaulm (talk) 18:09, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

Iloilo International Airport

CBW I tried to make a compromise edit to Iloilo International Airport but a user and the airport authorities dont appear to want to drop the stick about the use of Santa Barbara. I came to it like you as a neutral admin to try and suggest a compromise but nobody is listening. Appreciate if you can have another look at it as I am beginning to repeat myself, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 17:33, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

It appears you are more neutral then me so the user had again reverted to "your" suggestion despite the inherit problems already discussed. They are clearly being disruptive and wont drop the stick but I am not inclined to revert the edit yet. Appreciate if you can have another look at this, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 14:39, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
CambridgeBayWeather, I agreed with your statement that the issue is merely to put a mention that the airport is sometimes erroneously called Sta Barbara Airport, and I even inserted the sentence to your exact language. .. I am only for accuracy. The fact is that, the use of an inaccurate name as an alternative name is not consistent with other wiki airport pages. Your suggestion is the right one and is consistent. Tumandokkangcabatuan (talk) 00:57, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
The "compromise" of MilborneOne is not a compromise. Yours is. A compromise is something that is not in the opposite ends. Clearly, the so-called compromise of MilborneOne is exactly what the opposite side wants, even to the extent of putting false information in wikipedia and contradicting the consensus of other wiki airport pages. Tumandokkangcabatuan (talk) 01:03, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your help with this CBW, Tumandokkangcabatuan clearly doesnt listen and wont drop the stick, I tried again to understand the users issues but as we are just going round in circles I am moving on, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 17:02, 15 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Would it be possible to remove the creation protection for Justin Stubbs? I got your name from the deletion log, not sure if you were the one that locked it. Hi there, Thanks for the message. It's a good idea, and perhaps rather than having a seperate article it could be worked into the main page on Yellowknife, under a 'Subdivision' sub-heading or the like. I'll think about it some more. Terrorism Section on WP:PBUH

Well, you did not provide any reason as to why keep this section in that article and what purpose it is serving there except to tell people decide on case by case basis which they can do without that section being over there.

The only reason you gave while reverting the change was to talk it out first which is not a good enough reason to keep this section there and also WP:Consensus does not say that we have to talk it out first.

Yes, we can talk if there is a constructive reason why you want to keep it there.

I provided the reason in the edit summary why it shouldn't be there, it's your turn to provide the reason that why it should be there.

Let's come to a resolution about this.

We can change the section name to "Bias words to avoid" and then remove the reference about terrorism from the body and only advise people about what they can do to avoid biasing.

Hi CambridgeBayWeatger,

I am requesting a semi-protection of the two pages - Shahjalal International Airport and Shah Amanat International Airport, for atleast 6 months. For the last few weeks Shahjalal page underwent persistent vandalism. It was protected for a week, but the vandals are back again. Shah Amanat page has been vandalized in the last few hours. It is quite hard to counter vandalism without protection. Thanks - Ahnaaf (talk) 15:34, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
