August 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page North Pacific right whale with this edit do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you.   — Jeff G.  ツ 15:10, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; you are welcome to create a new account with a username that represents only you. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline. If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. Request reason:

The Username "CMS Marine Mammals" points to my personal function. I work as Marine Mammals Officer for the United Nations. Since I also have a personal Wkipedia account, but do not wish to use this for work-related edits, I created this new one. It seems to me quite unreasonable to block it - first it is personal, not representing an organization, but only an individual in an organization; and second, the organization is non-profit and neutral. The information added with this account is factual and relates directly to the articles edited.

Decline reason:

Per WP:ORGNAME; this account is used to add links to the organization's website where it is only very marginally relevant. ErikHaugen talk 17:42, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • Obviously I won't be judging this rebuttal, but the very fact that it does appear to represent an organization, links to which you've been adding to a lot of articles, is the reason for the block. Nothing personal--and that the organization is non-profit, for instance, is not relevant here. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 16:43, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • BTW, you say you have another account, so I assume you have some experience editing here. I'd like to ask you to use preview more and consolidate edits, so you won't need 31 edits for these changes. Series of lots of small edits clog up the article history. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 16:46, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just to add to what Drmies said, this really is mostly about the username. You probably shouldn't be adding links to http://www.cms.int to every single whale article, since the page itself is not all that relevant to the article and you have a conflict of interest. But you are not being blocked just for that. You are more than welcome to keep editing under your personal account. If you do operate more than one account, please take a look at WP:SOCK#LEGIT.
