Hi,

In reply to your e-mail. There are two things to this. If you post the text you agree to release it under the GFDL license. So, if you release the text it's released. Also, there is somewhere where you officially assert you are the copyright owner. Your text will also be mangled (if the whole article is not deleted) since your work is not necessarily NPOV. The GFDL license is not a problem. Go ahead and distribute it as much as you want. Where and how do you want me to say that it's mine?

Why should my text be mangled? I see no reason for that.

Regarding a NPOV, first, the text that I submitted was completely factual and did not contain unnecessary superlatives, in contrast to what one would expect to find in a commerical marketing piece, for example. We are engineers and we deal in facts. Second, even if what I had written was not neutral, from the threads that I've been following in Wikipedia, I have seen many discussions that conclude that it is not necessary to write from a neutral point of view, or rather that is is nearly impossible to write in a completely unbiased way, since many historical facts have multiple sides; for example, United States foreign policy can be written about as an ideal of spreading democracy, an aggressive empire, and other points of view, as long as all of them are included.

Also, for example, if I were going to write from a non-neutral point of view regarding Dr. Heshmat, I might write something like this: "Dr. Heshmat is the world's foremost expert on foil bearing technology. Visitors come from all over the world to learn the secrets of his bearings which carry loads many times higher than any competitors at significantly higher speeds and temperature extremes under much more severe operating conditions, such as operation beyond bending critical speeds." All of that is true but it would be too ... what's a good word for it? Hyped?

And hence there is a catch-22: if I don't tell you in glowing terms how important his work is, then you would think it's not important to have an article on him. But if I do write in glowing terms, then it's not neutral. How do you propose to resolve this?

Next, I don't understand this: "the article was not originally created about the topic it has no become... so that page may become a disambig page or... I'm not sure. " Zereshk and I handled the shifting of pages with redirects and modifications of linked pages.

Regarding Dr. Hooshang Heshmat's notability, again, I would say that if you don't happen to know who Dr. Hooshang Heshmat is, that simply underscores the usefulness of Wikipedia! It was people who were searching for information on him that originally led me to Wikipedia, so clearly, there was a need for an article on him.

I'll be awaiting the link that you mentioned above.

Tribology

Hi, I noticed that you just added a book to the tribology bibliography. I have just been going through the tribology related pages to try to build it into a useful portal. As a part of this work, I have been cleaning up a lot of commercial advertising that has been added to pages by researchers interested in advertising their own interests. All of this commercial information has been transferred to List of tribology organizations. The reason I say this is because I thought it strange that a book that was just published would be so widely known and used as to be added to a wikipedia article on tribology. Understandably Dr. Heshmat is a well known researcher in the field, but, the adding of this brand new book to the article was clearly for commercial purposes. I have removed it from the bibliography, for now. However, in a few years, once the book is in wide publication, there should be no reason not to put it back in. The book is a compilation and culmination of 30+ years of peer-reviewed work. Hence, it was added as the reference that it is. If you have questions on whether or not an inclusion has commercial purposes, please ask before making assumptions. Thank you. CHeshmat (talk) 08:08, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

The book is absolutely applicable and an important reference. Evidently other people agree, since the citation has already been restored. What are your qualifications and accomplishments in the field? Do you have any publications to demonstrate your expertise? I looked for citations for you and could find none.
