Richard Park

Thanks for your interest in the matter of Richard Park. As for that article you pointed me to, there was no agreement on flags. There is no offical policy or even effective guild-line in place. When the flags first started appearing several months back, there was a discussion and the people who were spreading the current rosters throughout the leaugue had agreed to use country of birth, not nationality, for the flags. But like i said, that was an agreement made by the people spreading the rosters and it was never made into policy or anything like that. The reason we used birth place for flags is because it was so much simpler. some players can get really confusing as to what flags should be used so a simple birth place system was used. Since no official agreement was ever reached to use this method, it hasn't been enforced rigourously. Ccwaters, for example, tried to enforce it for a while but got sick of reverting and arguing with people. He just gave up. I have given up for the most part too. In all honesty, I don't really care what flag is used, but to me it looks strange to have a player who was born in Korea to Korean parents with an american flag. Richard Park born in Seoul, South Korea followed by an american flag. Masterhatch 17:35, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Why is it strange? Around here, in Vancouver, a lot of athletes are born elsewhere in the world with foreign parents but represent Canada in international competitions. (i.e. wrestler Daniel Igali, NBA basketball player Steve Nash.) I am born to Chinese parents in Hong Kong but I identify myself as a Canadian due to my citizenship and the fact that I'm almost unfamiliar with Chinese culture. For hockey, where most players are Canadian, it's probably better to use nationality I think because 1/5 of the population is born outside the country but most still identify him/herself as being Canadian. --Buchanan-Hermit 19:15, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Project

Hi, my name is Federico (alias Pain) and I am creating a section for nominating th best user page, I was wondering if you were interested in joining the project.

The project has just started, and we need help to spread the word and ameliorate it.

Wikimedia Canada

Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 17:11, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

James Staunton

Hello. I think I just got a message from you but it said something about vandalism, which seems rather odd. Just wondering, if indeed it was from you, what you think I might have done wrong? Short of sharpening up some rather sloppy English, I didn't think I had altered all that much - and I thought that was the idea of Wikipedia in the first place anyway. I see the page has been reverted now, so I suppose it's a rather theoretical question, but one doesn't like to cause offence. All the Best James

I reviewed the edit and I have retracted my vandalism warning. I was doing some routine vandalism cleanup and your edit looked like pornographic or inappropriate material to me. Well, after reading the article I realized that it should be judged under different circumstances, so hence I retracted the warning. Sorry for that, and thanks for pointing it out to me. Feel free to revert back to your edits if you wish. --Buchanan-Hermit™..CONTRIBS..SPEAK! 09:50, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, old boy. The internet can be an unfriendly place - so nice to come across someone polite for a change. Those warnings - pretty scary stuff! All the Best James

No problem. Don't be intimidated by the warnings -- there's nothing wrong with asking why you got one or challenging a warning, if you think you've got a strong case. :) --Buchanan-Hermit™..CONTRIBS..SPEAK! 10:04, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

98 B-Line

Hi Buchanan-Hermit. Nice work on the B-Line. As a Vancouverite, I watch the Coast Mountain Bus article, and I saw the link. Cheers. --Bookandcoffee 09:37, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I spent a while on it but it was collecting dust in one of my userpage subpages for a while because I wasn't sure if it should be added or not (some of the info might be covered by other articles). I'm glad I added it today, and I see I'm not the only one. ;) --Buchanan-Hermit™..CONTRIBS..SPEAK! 09:41, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the Best User Page Project

Let us try an experiment. Until further notice, the voting system will be open, using the method described in the Guidelines. This will make us understand how reliable the current system is and whether the project has a real possibility to expand into hundrends of users or not.

All users are encounaged to display the {{BestUserPage}} banner on their User Page.

All members all encouraged to display the {{BUP}} banner in their User Page, and also notify that the project has started.

We will refer to the votes for this first session as "March 2006" in the archive.

Richmond Bus Routes

I live in Richmond also, and I like what you've done with the 98 Bline page. I even added some information. Full time user of public-transit (take it to high school every day). I know the routes and areas in Richmond.

I'm new to wikipedia (well not newbie like :D), and I would like to work on pages for the Bus Routes in Richmond. I'm not that good at wiki coding, but I would like to learn how to code and the rules of wikipedia. Like the rules about info boxes and categories.

When I get the articles done, you and I could go through and categorize them and clean them up so they look neat.

Jsanders 06:57, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply!

So you do the graphics for the 98 and 99 bline yourself? Looks great!

I'll be doing a lot of work on the Canada Line article when it gets built, I live 11/2 blocks away :) i'm good in photoshop, so if you need any help with gfs just ask me.

I should get around to doing a user page, where do you get the nice boxes from on the right?

Re: Aberdeen Centre

The article looks fine on my IE (yes, I'm *still* using that :P). I actually thought the images were a bit all over the place, and I placed them all along the right side of the screen to make the article look tidier (on my screen anyway). You're right, the article's not yet long enough to have the pictures spaced out, so I guess what we could do is to throw in a <gallery> tag and place some of the images under it. That way, we can also incorporate the picture of the old mall into the article. - Hinto 02:29, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Don't forget to use subst: on warning templates

I found one without a subst, fixed it for you. Only one more thing to say then: Go Canucks Go! Tawker 07:59, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Subst:template name grabs the text from the template and inserts it into the page rather than linking to the template and pulling it in dynamically. On warnings it's a lot less stressful on the servers. Thats all, but don't worry, lots of people don't do it, my bot is fixing some 2,000 pages right now with another 10K in the que. Tawker 08:08, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
It says "Sleeping for 29.4 seconds" then "changing page *" then it shows the edits. I tried to say sorry but it wouldn't reply :) I think it's going to die, next it's going to get the 10K people who didn't subst "welcome" -- Tawker 08:12, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

*ahem*

I think this should be on the discussion page, not the user page. Yes, Big Brother is watching you. ;) --Buchanan-Hermit™..CONTRIBS..SPEAK!. 04:41, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
