Redirect targets[edit]

You just redirected Helioscope (studio) to Terry Dodson, a page that doesn't mention Helioscope. This makes it a poor form of redirect; someone looking for information on Helioscope will land on a page that gives them no visible information. Please undo that redirect or find a better target for it. --Nat Gertler (talk) 20:49, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry =( BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 20:51, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It might be worth doing a little checking to see if you can source it before finding a new redirect. Quickly checking, I find a Oregon Live article, this podcast interview, a Forever Geek article, and more. I won't be doing changes myself, both because I'm avoiding article editing and because I have business relations with folks from the studio. --Nat Gertler (talk) 21:02, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I do try to find sources, though honestly I feel that if any interested editors that have ignored tags for three years when we're talking about an artist studio that includes Terry Dodson that isn't mentioned on Terry Dodson's page it's clutter, and a bit of a slight to the kind of work editors have to do to clear review for new articles. Who knows, maybe the redirect will spur someone into actually fixing the issues? Oh, and get Terry to finish Red One! ;) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 21:10, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Craig Conlan[edit]

Hi, I strongly disagree with the advert and neutrality tags you have placed on this article which you have readded despite my opposition, In my view the article is factual and neutral. If you disagree please rewrite it instead of drive-by tagging which is disruptive, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 21:34, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I do apologise, it looks like that one was an error on my part. It won't happen again, and sorry for the annoyance caused. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 21:38, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thats ok, thanks. I was a bit grumpy because I added the part about the award and added the references and i've got no connection at all to pr and no coi, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 21:41, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely, I'm not entirely sure what I was thinking tagging it like that, especially twice. Going to have a nose over some of my other tags in case I've made other errors. Appreciate the heads up =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 21:43, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Anaconda (character)[edit]

Hey there! Do you have any suggestions for improving the page Anaconda (character)? I'm a little worried because I've put a lot of work into that page - I'd hate for it to be deleted. Thank you! Nyssie (talk) 19:01, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It's a lovely page and at worse would be merged into the Marvel characters list, but that's very much a nuclear option. The CBR source is a good start, and has us a third of the way there. Inside Pulse has a couple of articles on some of the Cap runs she was in - https://insidepulse.com/2016/04/21/retro-reviews-captain-america-387-413-by-mark-gruenwald-rik-levins-larry-alexander-from-marvel-comics/ and https://insidepulse.com/2016/02/04/retro-reviews-captain-america-307-332-by-mark-gruenwald-paul-neary-other-marvel-comics-creators/, while https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/Mark_Gruenwald_and_the_Star_Spangled_Sym/dIMwEAAAQBAJ? seems to have at least some searchable pages. Anything that can be gleaned to give a little more context (why Grueny created her, why she's been returned to frequently) to plump up the non-fictional sections basically makes it bulletproof. Gruenwald's run about that time also got an in-depth article in Amazing Heroes #146 (available at the Internet Archive even though it probably shouldn't be - https://archive.org/details/amazing-heroes-1988/Amazing%20Heroes%20146%20c2c%20%28Aug.%201%2C%201988%29%20%28A-Team-DCP%29), though IIRC it's mainly focused on John Walker. Hope this helps! =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 19:23, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To help put your mind at ease I've adjusted the tags on the article to indicate sources exist, but I'll leave it to your expertise to work them into the article =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 19:29, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, that's all very helpful! I greatly appreciate it. :) Nyssie (talk) 21:09, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Response to the current discussion in Special Executive's AfD[edit]

As I've seen you've been accusing me of a few things (Namely acting in bad faith and not properly searching for sources), I'd like to clear up a few things here. Before I do, I would like to clarify that my reason for placing this here and not in the discussion itself. I've recently been forced into a situation where I cannot access my computer, leaving me stuck with Wikipedia mobile. I cannot for the life of me find out how to respond to AfD discussions on mobile. I've looked around and just can't find out a way. While I can't post there, I've been checking in on the nomination discussions to see how they've been progressing, and as much as I'd like to have replied to some of the messages I've seen posted since then, I've been unable to. As most of my nominations have had a mostly unanimous consensus, not to mention how odd it is to go straight to someone's talk page for a relatively minor comment, I haven't seen the need to do this except for the current matter at hand. I apologize if it seems like I've just been dumping discussions and leaving them, but I literally can't figure out how to get to them.

I've been watching your discussion on the Special Executive AfD for the past few days, so I just want to explain a bit on why I've nominated Special Executive, as well as my current issues with it.

My concern with that article wasn't that it was it was completely unworthy for a place on Wikipedia, but rather that I just feel it doesn't have a need to exist. It has some good sourcing, and there are a few more apparently, but my concern is that the sources just aren't enough to establish the group and Technet separately from one another. Rather than have two articles covering the same group at seperate points in time, it felt more fitting to just merge the two together. That was my suggestion when I nominated it. However, I didn't know merge nominations existed at the time. By the time I realized, I was without the ability to access my phone to change anything. My problem now is that I simply cannot withdraw the AfD to encourage further discussion without a time limit. I'm stuck on mobile, and I literally cannot edit the nomination to change it to the withdrawal text. I'm not quite sure what I can do, now. I've caused a rather unnecessary discussion as a result of error, and I can't really go about undoing it.

As for my lack of BEFORE that you've told me about, I did do BEFORE for all the articles I nominated. When I went through Special Executive, I bumped into the Moore bios, but I just felt it wasn't enough to justify the groups separately. I didn't see that other article you put up, but when I checked the news section, I just couldn't find any sources about the group instead of just people talking about the same two things in the same article. I dug for a while with multiple different search terms, but couldn't find anything pertaining to the group separately. Given that there was literally nothing after a good bit of searching, I just figured that there wasn't enough significant coverage to justify it separately.

Again, this isn't in bad faith, or an attempt to scare away editors or anything. When I began nominating, I was going through Doctor Who related articles in an attempt to clean up that section of Wikipedia, as many of them had literally no sourcing or potential sources whatsoever. I have future plans to improve some articles there, but regardless of that, I bumped into Special Executive while searching. I'm admittedly unfamiliar with Comics outside of the mainstream stuff, so my judgement on this was just in comparison to other articles I had been looking at, and what was in the article, rather than a comparison to Comics as a whole. Special Executive had some good sourcing, but my concern was the fact it and Technet were seperate, as well as just a lack of an ability to establish them separately.

Again, my intentions weren't hostile, and I have already apologized for doing so many at once to various groups. (Again, not something I'm going to try in the future.) As I've mentioned earlier, I'm incapable of changing the discussion or directly addressing it. I'm really sorry, again, for causing such a big mess. Pokelego999 (talk) 16:38, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

First things first...
  • I really, really appreciate the message =)
  • About the only way I've found of interacting with AfDs via mobile is via the browser, i.e. going to en.wikipedia.org (or whichever) on Chrome and signing in. It's clunky, especially with nested discussions, but it is a route if you need it.
  • We all make mistakes, I've made a million.
But: -
  • You cannot have done Before seeing as a web search misses at least one detailed and notable source. What you've done is a Google search, which is a good start but has to be done with the awareness that the algorithm is heavily weighted towards primarily online sources, typically those frequented by English-speaking Americans. A *lot* of pre-2010 comics sources are offline, or paywalled. I went beyond that to find sources for the article, you should be prepared to do the same before putting anything to AfD. That is why I assumed bad faith; I apologise if that is not the case, but the end result is the same.
  • There is a reason talk pages exist, and that would have been where a merger could be discussed without any sort of clock. A merger is pointless via AfD because those voting will not be doing any of the merging or any other related work, so a merger is a soft delete. As it happens I wouldn't be against a merger with Technet as, yes, there's overlap but now AfD has their teeth into it, it wouldn't surprise me to see Technet going as well.
  • Have you done a rough merged page in user space or sandbox? Because if you haven't, well...
  • If you're planning to improve Doctor Who coverage, more power to you but you are going to find it much, much, much harder to create any new content than it is to try and improve pages that already exist.
  • The rest of it, as you say, people have handled. AfD creates a clock and opens a topic to a certain group of people who think a wide number of Wikipedia articles should be destroyed and salted. It should never be a first point of discussion for improving an article.
Best wishes, and enjoy editing! =) x BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 18:38, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pokelego999 (sorry, forgot to ping) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 19:08, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did attempt to log in with the site, but I just can't find where to do it on there. It's the reason I downloaded the mobile app in the first place.
For your first point, I understand what you mean, but I'm not sure how to access stuff beyond the basics Wikipedia suggests when an article is nominated/has preexisting issues. What did you use? I'd love to have something like that for the future, both so something like Special Executive can be prevented, and also so I can help improve articles better.
As for your next few points, this is definitely extremely messy now and I'm really sorry about putting it in that state. I haven't made a userspace or sandbox page for how a merge will go. I can only do that when I've got computer access again, as this is only something I've learned about as I've begun doing it, as well as while I've been locked to mobile exclusive access. I doubt I'd be able to make a good mockup on mobile. If I had computer access, it'd be a different story, but as it stands, I don't think I can do it anytime soon.
As for your later points, I don't intend on making new content yet, but rather just improving some older articles. My goal with my AfDs was just to nail the stuff I didn't think were salvageable in the present state, or otherwise just didn't display seperate notability. When I have computer access back again, I intend on getting started on that.
And yes, I've definitely figured that out because of everything going on. I don't intend on going on a big spree in Comics or anything, but I hope nominating Special Executive doesn't cause any major changes around there anytime soon.
Again, a lot of this is really caused by me making several mistakes. I wish to withdraw it now, if possible, for the sake of preserving the article temporarily, but I'm afraid I'm uncertain of a way to do so in my current state. Any idea of a way to do it? I really don't want to cause any more problems. Pokelego999 (talk) 19:16, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Should be on the top right of the main page (I'm using Chrome on Android, not sure if it's different on others). IMHO the mobile app is only really good for reading Wikipedia or very minor edits, though I'm fat-thumbed.
  • Specialist publications; in the case of comics it's stuff like Wizard, Amazing Heroes, TCJ, Back Issue (and other 2Morrows titles, like Modern Masters), Comics International, Speakeasy etc. Often these specialist publications have either a) gone bankrupt or b) have an online site that doesn't include a full archive (often for copyright reasons). For different mediums there's different things; for Who, depending on the era, you'd probably be looking at Radio Times (again, site doesn't include an archive), TV Zone, Dreamwatch and the like. Not sure what Empire have in terms of online v print, or how it lines up to them starting to cover TV. IIRC for something like Who or comics 'official' books (say, one of the David J. Howe books) is regarded as primary, which doesn't mean it can't be used but does mean it doesn't prove notability on its' pwm. The short version, basically, is legwork; I am lucky enough to have a large physical archive of comics publications, but for researching anything in particular it still largely means guessing which are likely to cover what I'm after and just leafing through.
  • I am not sure you can withdraw an AfD unless it's a clear accident, i.e. if there's absolutely no debate like someone's accidentally nominated Jesus Christ or something. What will be will be. x
BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 19:48, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pokelego999 - though thinking about it I'm not sure a merge with Technet is the answer... while the time-travel thing and the copyright spat between Moore and Davis makes it a bit unclear (as some of Davis' designs for the SE were reused for the Technet but given new identities, like Legion/Thug) wasn't it only Fascination/Scatterbrain who's actually on both teams, which would be like saying X-Men and X-Force are the same thing because they both had Cannonball on the team? I mean their plot function is identical in Captain Britain (oddball time-travelling mercs who turn up and beat up Brian) there's very little overlap in terms of history beyond Wardog and company turning up to recruit the Technet survivors in Excalibur, and their personnel are quite different. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 20:18, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As I've said, I'm unfamiliar and mostly basing my judgements off of the content in their Wikipedia articles. Given how their articles described them, I figured they were more comparable to incarnation of the same group rather than offshoots such as in the case of X-Groups. If I'm completely wrong in my assessment, I can always dump my idea for a merge and leave both articles as they are rather than make a further mess of things. You're far more familiar with Comics than I am, after all. Pokelego999 (talk) 21:13, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. I've only withdrawn some before by request (Nominating several dozen at once is not a good idea when it comes to cleanliness.) so I'm a bit unfamiliar with AfD withdrawls. Regardless, if it's best to leave it, I'll do that. Hopefully all will turn out well on that front.
Regardless, thank you for being very frank and helpful with me. I'll do my best to prevent mishaps like this in the future, especially so with your advice. Best of luck for your future editing, and sorry for the problems again. Pokelego999 (talk) 21:08, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pokelego999 We learn by doing! Sorry for being a bit of an arsehole about it all.
TBH I feel I've argued a case strongly in the AfD anyway, and found some decent sources should the article survive. If it gets nailed on some arcane point of policy, well, that says more about the flaws in the AfD process than you or me anyway. It happens x BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 21:13, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah dw about it. I honestly don't blame you, if it were me seeing something like that without context, I'd be concerned as well. No hard feelings, and thank you again. Pokelego999 (talk) 20:23, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciation[edit]

Hey there, I just want to thank you for all the hard work you've been doing on oft-neglected topics across Wikipedia's comics articles! You appeared to be frustrated recently by the reactions of some people to the work you've done, so I wanted to give you some respect. To be honest, when I first saw you merging a large number of articles, adding many notability tags, etc, I assumed that you were another editor just looking for things to delete. But as I watched what you were doing, I saw that with merges you were careful to WP:PRESERVE information and it didn't take long for me to realize you really just want to improve our coverage rather than delete everything that didn't fit your view of policy and what we should be. So here's to you, keep it up! BOZ (talk) 17:23, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I try not to junk anything needlessly; TBH having seen some of the deletion splurges people go through where a page just gets wiped with none of the information saved my tactic is to try and get in there first; that way it's a lot easier to build a page back up to notability too. The only problem is not enough hours in the day! =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 20:44, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Tell me about it. :D BOZ (talk) 22:24, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a bit late to this, but I did just want to say thank you as well. I know I was quite literally one of the big "deletion splurge" people BOZ was referring to, but I ironically don't really like seeing stuff get deleted in its entirety. I absolutely respect and appreciate what you're doing, and while I'm not too familiar with comic related articles, just given everything I've seen of you on Wikipedia, I just wanted to thank you for your efforts to genuinely improve everything here. Keep up the great work man. Pokelego999 (talk) 17:09, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Appreciate it =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 17:12, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And yeah, I get it. As I've said before, the problem is with the system, not you - there are a lot of articles out there that, for instance, need merging and the like; the problem is the AfD voting mob just want to junk stuff when often all that's needed is the right merger and for content to actually be incorporated. The people who vote merge, redirect, delete etc. rarely have any interest in doing any actual work on the pages they discuss. Therefore I've found it's best not to involve them and work with people who edit Wikipedia rather than people who talk about editing Wikipedia =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 17:16, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Another thing I wanted to comment on, I forgot where but I have seen you say that it is difficult to work with editors on Marvel/DC character articles, and I know what you mean; once you improve an article on an even semi-popular character, it quickly goes downhill. One area I would suggest that you may have better luck with from those publishers is on the actual publications themselves. We have plenty of articles about comics titles (long running series, limited series, one-offs) that need lots of tender loving care, and there are lots and lots of articles about publications that could be created but have not yet been. I've seen you doing this on mostly non-Marvel/DC publications, but the big company books could use the attention too. :) The best part about those articles is that they are far less prone to attract overly fannish attention when compared to articles about characters, at least in my experience. Better source request for File:TheSunComic220358.jpg[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as the web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the direct/bare URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. — Ирука13 20:04, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would like to find out a bit more about how to go about this correctly; I see you have also tagged File:Buster720812CharliePeace.jpg for a request for a better source, when the image is a scan from my personal collection and thus probably can't be linked to an online source, similar to a lot of the material from the area of British comics. I am unaware of anything that has changed since previously uploading files and am confused by Bots and yourself deciding the rationales included were fine a week ago but are not now. Any guidance would be much appreciated, as I'd rather get whatever I'm doing wrong right first time rather than have to go through this tedium for any future uploads. Hi! I saw that you redirected Billy the Kid (Lucky Luke), but then reverted that. Is there a specific reason why you decided to leave the standalone article up? I don't see evidence of notability in it, and I'm considering nominating it at AfD. Did you find sources that establish notability? Thanks for your work and your time :) Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 15:14, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm working on salvaging what I can from the outdated single album pages and redirecting them to List of Lucky Luke albums, hence the merge notices. As such I hooked a couple I'd already redirected to a less suitable page back so either they are there when either I or - preferably, as I am not particularly interested in the topic and was just trying to help come up with a solution to an AfD - or someone else can easily follow on the other pages. There's discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Les Collines noires regarding this, where a consensus seemed to have emerged. Hope this helps! =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 15:22, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Aaah, thanks! Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 15:24, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that AfD looks reasonable, but I'm not sure this applies, as the article I'm referring to is about a comic book. Or maybe I'm overlooking something? Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 15:28, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Actualcpscm In continental Europe where the comics were originated, 'album' is a term for a comic book, like graphic novel or trade paperback; IIRC 'album' is typically used for larger format than American comic books, but there's no hard definition and to some extent they're interchangeable largely on personal preference.
Assuming I'm following the question correctly. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 15:42, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, I‘ve never heard the term used like that before; my bad. I guess you do learn something new every day. Thanks for taking the time to explain :) Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 16:19, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! I guess it needs more explanation on the page, though! =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 16:53, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Should be done now =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 07:28, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

At Talk:Les Schtroumpfs Joueurs, I asked for notability help - nobody commented, so after prod this was redirected. But looking at {{The Smurfs}}, there are many more similar articles. Take one to AfD to get consensus to create a list, or be bold? PS. I'll make a proposal at Talk:The Smurfs, might be best to comment there. Hi there! I didn't mean to disturb you. I saw that you had created a lot of comics articles, which is awesome, but that most of them were not on the comics WikiProject, so I was adding the project tag to your creations. I kept crashing my laptop loading so many tabs at once, so it switched my IP address a few times. 2601:240:E200:3B60:B848:94D9:7FB0:2588 (talk) 14:56, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
