Wilfred Gore Browne[edit]

My Who was Who has him hyphenated- now this is taken direct from a Who's Who entry which Bishop Wilfred would have written himself. His Times Obituary has it hyphenated. These were my two reference points for the hyphen when I started it. Since then I have acquired a 1913 Crockfords which also has him hyphenated. You, however, hail from Kimberley and perhaps have access to local publications or have seen memorials locally not accessible via the internet. Thanks for this. Interestingly there are conflicting spellings here in Kimberley as well, but the gravestone is sans hyphen and spells Wilfrid not Wilfred. A recent visitor here from Darlington, where Gore Browne had his first parish, confirms that it was Wilfrid Gore Browne. Do you think it's really best to link ǀXam and ǂKhomani to their respective language articles? Now, I surely don't know anything remotely enough about this subject, but is there enough to make a stub of an article about the people, with links to the language, their land, etc.? Generally, I guess how large are these San clans? I'm just a believer in starting more stubs generally and leaving it for other people to find and add to. Thanks for the note about Mr Tredgold. My interest came from the painting where I wanted to celebrate the people who had been involved in sorting out mass slavery. Your ancester seems to have paid an important role. Most of the people in the foreground of the painting were rich quaker bankers or renowned leaders in their country. Mr Tredgold seemed to enjoy a strong "social capital" for him and even his wife to be in the picture. I guess he was the only one !from! Africa Victuallers (talk)

Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year.
