Badjelly at Spike Milligan[edit]

Hi there,

Noticed you added some stuff about Badjelly's Bad Christmas to the Spike Milligan article. You didn't reference the material you added. I Googled and found some detail on the Chickenshed website, so have added that. When you add info to Wikipedia it is always good to add a reference otherwise you'll often find someone comes along and deletes what you've added. To find out why it is important and to get info on how to add references/citations please see Wikipedia:VERIFY.

My reference only confirms the performance took place and that it was to do with Spike. It doesn't verify that the plot of the play is as you've described, so if you want to search for something that does confirm your other details, that would be good. If you get stuck feel free to pester me on my talk page (linked to after my name here →) --bodnotbod (talk) 12:35, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again ;O)
You asked whether you should set up an article for Badjelly. The key thing to consider is whether the play is notable enough. My suspicion would be that it isn't, however I don't know so much about the play. Have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Theatre/Draft_guideline_on_Notability_(plays) and see if you feel it meets the criteria laid down there. If you were to write an article on the play and others considered it non-notable, it would be deleted (probably very quickly) and you would have wasted your time, which is never fun. It's getting harder and harder to write a new article that doesn't get deleted these days. So do have a good look at that link, and if you feel the article is unlikely to survive then I wouldn't bother.
Oh! Having written all that, I see you have the article Badjelly_the_Witch which already has a theatre section, so you could put the plot there, I guess.
If I were doing it myself I would do this:
  1. Go to Spike Milligan and click to edit the section with the play. Leave the first sentence about the play, but cut [CTRL-X] (not copy) the rest to your clipboard (making sure that you take the second reference to the play with you). Click 'save page' leaving then a shorter bit about the play left at Spike Milligan.
  2. Go to Badjelly the Witch and click to edit the Theatre section. Paste your text [CTRL-V] at the end of what's there about that play already.
  3. Check that what you're left with makes sense and there's no repetition.
I could have done all this much more quickly than it takes me to type out what to do, but since you haven't done much editing I thought you might be more satisfied having a go yourself ;O)
If in doing the cutting/pasting process something goes wrong and you lose the text, don't panic, it will still be there in earlier versions of the article, so we can always get hold of it again. Just give me a call if you need help.

Don't worry...[edit]

...about bothering me. I don't get many messages and I'm always happy to help. Good luck with your article. I may even help out with it myself. Remember to put references for everything you say as that will improve your chances of the article surviving. --bodnotbod (talk) 20:54, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gosh, you've been busy ;O)[edit]

Hi there. Just to let you know I may not do any Wikipedia stuff til Tuesday (it being a bank holiday weekend) but I intend to come back to look at the Badjelly article properly. Take care. --bodnotbod (talk) 19:39, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Thanks for wishing me a good bank holiday. I hope you had a good one too. I did indeed have a good day but today (Tuesday) I have a rotten cold. Much sneezing and nose blowing. Sigh. Anyway: I've read the article now. Looks very good! I've made four or five small edits. As I say, it can be quite difficult to get an article into Wikipedia these days, but you've done a tremendous job, so I hope it will survive. If you find out that it gets threatened with deletion let me know on my talk page and I will pop along and see if I can defend it against the beasts. If the worst happens you could always put the article up somewhere else on the web. Even if you don't have a website you could set up a free page using Google's "Blogspot". It probably wouldn't get as many views that way, but at least your hard work will be out there on the web.
Once you've placed the article into Wikipedia, don't forget to add some categories. I don't know whether the play would be considered English, Welsh or Scottish (I know Spike is considered Irish but what about the person who wrote the play?) but you might find a category here to put the play into: Category:British_plays. And maybe somewhere around here too Category:Musicals. OK, that's all from me. Well done ;O) --bodnotbod (talk) 10:05, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Badjelly Lives![edit]

Hi Blackstar.

I see you haven't edited Wikipedia for a long time so there's every chance you won't ever come back to see this but I hope you do.

Having helped you a little on the article, at Christmas 2012 I decided to buy my very young grand-niece Spike's Badjelly book as a present. I was delighted to be told that in the year 2013 my grand-niece had to dress up for something at school... and she dressed up as Badjelly! She really likes the book and her mother says it's fun for her to read it too. So I just wanted to thank you for bringing Badjelly into our lives. I hope you are well and happy. Take care. --bodnotbod (talk) 07:45, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Oh wow, that's really great to hear! I'm just glad to have shared one of my favourite stories :3 Hope you're well and happy too! Blackstar111 (talk) 16:58, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
