Edit conflicts and closures

My apologies, it turns out that the edit conflict for my comment, actually was a closure of the whole discussion: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents&diff=prev&oldid=821207639. Please, can I remove my after-closure response? --SILENTRESIDENT 00:55, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Like the lie you said here about me being reported while it was me who reported you and yot pall actualy?. Dont try to manipulate en.wiki admins, it is an advice I hope you take SR FkpCascais (talk) 01:01, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

(edit conflict):@Black Kite: I appreciate your call for a stop any more edit-warring on this article for at least 3 days, but unfortunately, the editor has not heeled to your advices and just resumed disruption: [1] --SILENTRESIDENT 01:04, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

I've blocked FkpCascais. Kind of unbelievable they'd continue to revert. --NeilN talk to me 01:03, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
@NeilN: Well I am sorry to say this, the report on ANI shouldn't have been closed too early, it was evident that this didn't help the particular editor in realizing the severity of the situation. Have a good day and my apologies for your incovenience. --SILENTRESIDENT 01:08, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
@SilentResident: The report was closed properly. We expect experienced editors to exercise sense and self-control. --NeilN talk to me 01:14, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
@NeilN: I understand. And may I clarify something in my above comment, if you allow me? By no means I am criticizing your decission to close the ANI report. Not at all. Nor was this my intention. In my above response, I expressed (loudly - unfortunately, and now I regret it) my personal concerns about a possibly different outcome could the events occured differently. But nevertheless, please accept my apologies if the way I wrote my previous response to you gives that impression. My sincere apologies, NeilN. Have a good day. --SILENTRESIDENT 02:28, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Black Kite, I was hoping you could take another look at this nomination and see whether the nominator has adequately addressed the issues you raised. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:19, 20 January 2018 (UTC)

It seems you’re active..

Can you look into this IP? 94.109.22.116. Lots of vandalism and WP:NOTHERE. Étienne Dolet (talk) 08:40, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

A gentle query

As much as I agree that such comments shall be avoided at all costs, is redaction ought to be used to remove mildly-offensive comments/attacks? I ain't asking you to de-rev-del:) Regards:)Winged BladesGodric 11:57, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

  • I thought that particular comment was a little much - as frankly too much of that discussion has been. Some editors need to look at the beam in their own eye; there are ways of opining that someone should be topic banned without making them sound like a serial killer. Black Kite (talk) 14:26, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

A feeling I haven't felt since...

Niqabu seems like someone we have interacted with before, but I cannot recall where I heard the same sort of ugly nationalism showing up. Does it rign a bell with you? - Jack Sebastian (talk) 04:26, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

  • It does, and I can't place it. There have been a few like him in that particular theatre of editing. Black Kite (talk) 08:16, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
I guess I am glad that I am not the only one who felt that. I guess I'll remain vigilant. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 22:49, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Question about protecting pages

What would be the usual process for a topic area being brought under ARBCOM so all the pages were indefinitely extended-confirmed protected? I am asking because the modern Turkey topic area has a relatively well-documented problem with sock puppetry and vandalism (both from registered accounts and ips). The pages often need temporary protection anyway (which has to be renewed), and it seems this would be more effective without having to monitor activity across the entire topic area on a daily basis. The problem is consistent enough that I suspect it is connected to one or several LTA-type issues - and I think protecting pages has been successful to reduce this in other areas like ARBPIA. But I am not sure I have ever seen it done without a round of topic bans and disciplinary sanctions. I was wondering if there was any process to request consideration of this, without it being connected to a particular disciplinary matter? Seraphim System (talk) 22:50, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

  • somebody should have pinged me, I have been spamming talkpages of recently active sys-ops. phew! —usernamekiran(talk) 01:35, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

Thoughts

Apologies on that one, I did indeed misread the context. Although I would state the whole potential RFA run explains why so many people are jumping down my throat about leaving her a simple EW warning. Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 01:01, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Protection

It is only there until the AE review is done. I fully do not think a DYK nom should remain indef protected. And I fully allow any administrator to lift it, after the AE thread is complete. Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 14:03, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Sexism etc.

Thanks for the message. I added a sentence based on what the article you provided says in order to add context. Also, on the talk page Simone noted the title is misleading, so I changed it. What do you think? I value your opinion.Gremlin75 (talk) 14:18, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

  • I reverted that paragraph. The source does specifically talk about sexism and homophobia, and whilst I am sure many of the social media posts are reasonable, you'd need to source that. Black Kite (talk) 23:43, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
Here's the quote from the first source:
"The tweets at Wynne predominantly express anger about her record and most stay within the bounds of fair comment, not crossing the line into personal abuse. Such calls as "Resign!" "You're incompetent!" and "Worst premier ever!" are now simply part of the deal for a politician in the era of social media.
But Wynne also draws a significant number of abusive, sexist and homophobic tweets. A small sampling from just the past few days:"http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/toronto/kathleen-wynne-twitter-abuse-1.3949657: As you can see, I did not need to add a new source, as the sentence I added simply paraphrased the second and third paragraphs of the article that you provided. I think It's important (as does the author of the article) to note that although there have been sexist and homophobic comments made, this is the minority of posts.Gremlin75 (talk) 13:48, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

ANI

I don't know if you remember but in June 2017 you blocked User:MaxBrowne after I created a report at ANI about their edits at Peter Thiel. They have returned recently and POV tagged it, requested an edit while logged out, edit warred to reinstate the edit they requested while logged out, as well as reinstated the edit they made back in June, all without any discussion on the talk page. Should I create another report at ANI or is there something else to be done? Thanks. Hrodvarsson (talk) 02:14, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

  • I've removed the NPOV tag, since he hasn't justified it on the talk page. I'll have a look at the other issue when I get a moment. Thanks, Black Kite (talk) 08:29, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. I think this could be simply handled by a discussion on the talk page or their user talk page if the edits were in good faith but they have shown a clear slant to their editing on the Thiel article. Hrodvarsson (talk) 18:13, 1 March 2018 (UTC) (By the way, I did not intend for the original post to mean "ban this account!!!". Luckily I have not encountered many disruptive / biased editors so I do not know how to proceed other than waiting for them to stop on their own volition or creating a report at ANI. In the future I will make sure I do not stoop to their level by engaging in back-and-forth edits.) Hrodvarsson (talk) 22:19, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Request

Hello there, could you do the same to Cristiano Ronaldo as you've done with Messi? there is a ridiculous amount of records there, and also a lot without sources as well. both of them seems to be overkill tbh. Csknowitall (talk) 21:52, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Agreed

You are spot on for insisting on sources for List of LGBT UK politicians. I read the talk page and I am appalled that anyone would argue otherwise. Lack of sourcing on this type of page, in particular, is a very slippery slope. Thanks for upholding WP:BLP. Best wishes for resolving the personal matters mentioned above. Sincerely, Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 01:22, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Page protection

After your full protection of the Peter Thiel page elapsed, the article became open to all editing. It had previously been indefinitely semi-protected. Is the previous protection reinstated after a case such as this or is it unnecessary until/unless unregistered/unconfirmed editors disrupt the page? Thanks. Hrodvarsson (talk) 21:19, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

  • I don't see the problem unless that actually does occur, in which case the previous semi-protection can always be re-applied. I've got my eye on it. Black Kite (talk) 23:20, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blockade (novel)

How is that a delete? Afds are not a head count, They are based on the strength of policy based arguments. No one countered the policy based argument of passing the basic tenement of general notability, coverage in independent reliable sources. I'm asking you to reverse your close and restore the article. duffbeerforme (talk) 15:03, 30 March 2018 (UTC)

  • Three delete comments which all made reasonable comments (they weren't "Delete, not notable"), one for keep? Don't see how I could have closed it any other way. WP:DRV is your location if you disagree. Or of course I could restore it to Draft to be improved, just ask. Black Kite (talk) 16:36, 30 March 2018 (UTC)

Regarding Prakash Neupane

[3] here is the interview of Prakash Neupane in Radio Kantipur No 1 National radio Of Nepal . They've also removed Huffpost [4] article saying the article is not reliable. We Nepalese are facing these problem from long and the Afd creators are Indian and they are personally attacking Nepali Pages the GSD, winged blades of Godric and Rpclod are indians. Like the recently attacked Kishor Panthi & Khasokhas Weekly but the same article as Prakash Neupane is on Wikipedia who is less famous and less ref but also they say thats notable. 27.34.104.247 (talk) 15:07, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

Look every artist, actor and etc I did article on you deleted Bo deal has all credit he needs and gives a reason for his article HeadKrack is on Ricky Emily show why is he being deleted Fatus Fee is a Emmy nominee from Television show with wiki proof Also Vic Spencer has all credits if these are deleted you shouldn’t have artist like Denmark Vessey with no real credits this is why people don’t take Wikipedia seriously because people like you write articles for friends and favorites not accredited people I’m about to let the owners know about you and everyone else doing this just like Hollywood “ Me To “ exposed them everything else like this will be exposed I’m reaching out about this today I’m putting a stop to this bullshit — Preceding unsigned comment added by Perfection10125 (talkcontribs)

  • @Perfection10125: First, you inadvertently placed this comment on Black Kite's userpage, rather than this talk page. I've moved it here. Second, the series Crime Stoppers Case Files: Chicago was nominated for two Emmys, but near as I can tell Fatus Fee himself was not nominated for an Emmy. In fact, the Emmy nominations for the series came ten years before he was on the show; i.e. he didn't contribute to the Emmy nominated work at all. This doesn't support his notability. He appeared in a single episode in 2016, his role being "suspect". It's a bit part. As was, there simply wasn't enough of anything to back up notability of this entertainer. Have a look at WP:ENTERTAINER; none of these standards were even remotely approached in the article that you created (twice). If you want to "put a stop to this bullshit", you will help yourself quite a bit by showing how any of these people for whom you are creating articles and for whom the articles are deleted, exceed our notability standards. --Hammersoft (talk) 19:07, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

Fatus Fee re-creation

Hi Black Kite. I recently tagged Fatus Fee (actor) with a G4 tag after I checked the page log and found that an AfD resulted in consensus to delete. Given that Fatus Fee (actor) has shown up so soon after Fatus Fee was deleted and salted by you, I suspect that the new article's creator (User:Downtimereal) may be a sock account that has been watching the proceedings. Can you direct me to the creator of the now-deleted Fatus Fee so that I can look into filing a SPI? Thanks.--SamHolt6 (talk) 23:36, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the prompt action. Cheers.--SamHolt6 (talk) 23:47, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello Black Kite, I noticed you closed the last ANI case regarding the perennial OPNSense vs. PFSense drama at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive970#OPNsense promotion and harassement. Just a quick notice that a new complaint regarding this dispute has popped up at the article talkpage Talk:Comparison of firewalls. Most of it is off-topic rambling about the big bad competitor, but it's probably worth keeping an eye on. GermanJoe (talk) 21:05, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

Cause of death filter

Hello! I see Special:AbuseFilter/770 is a log-only filter you requested way back when. Are you still monitoring it? Looks like there may be a lot of false positives. Also pinging the author There'sNoTime. We are regularly hitting the filter condition limit (performance issues, basically), so I'm trying to disable old filters that are either stale or no longer being used. Many thanks MusikAnimal talk 21:11, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Hi, it's a handy filter to have enabled - yes, the vandal that it tracked hasn't been back for a while, but to be honest that was their MO. Feel free to disable it, I'll give you a shout if they appear again. Thanks, Black Kite (talk) 22:17, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Back on March 29, you fully protected the article, and later reduced it to semi-protection on April 4. However, you removed the move protection that was on the article. Could you restore the previous move protection (only admins can move)? Also, I'm thinking that semi-protection should be indefinite because unprotection has failed numerous times before after looking through the protection log. — MRD2014 Talk 21:13, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

  • The move protection is also semi - I'm guessing that no autoconfirmed account is going to try to move it on pain of obvious sanctions. I don't like to semi-protect indefinitely but I will renew it for longer periods if the current protection fails after it expires. Black Kite (talk) 21:24, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
  • On the other hand - yeah, no reason not to restore the move protection, so I have done. Black Kite (talk) 21:26, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello BK, hope you're well. I just wanted to thank you for the above article which I read, in its entirety, today, having come back from up that way last weekend. I know it's 9 years too late, but things are supposed to mature with age...and by that, I don't mean your article, I mean me, as 9 or so years ago I would have never have read it and opted for material relating to Jodie Marsh instead. Best wishes, as always. CassiantoTalk 17:08, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Thanks for that - it's reminded me that I really ought to update it! Unfortunately I don't live just down the road any more, so I'll have to work out how to get hold of the yearly reviews ... Black Kite (talk) 17:43, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
    • Well, the visitor centre, it appears, has not had a lick of paint since the 1973 establishment date, so one would assume that all is present and correct to how it was a decade ago, so you can sleep easy. On our way back we took in the glorious Flatford area of East Bergholt and that was perhaps just as good, if not even more so, dare I say. CassiantoTalk 17:57, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
