ERRORS support

Hi Black Kite, not sure if I ever have thanked you, but THANK YOU for your ERRORS support. As exemplified last night with the whole kerfuffle over Shavuot, which saw a long-standing admin wheel-warring to get his way (nothing will come of it), some people don't seem to actually understand what we're trying to do, what the various rulesets are for the various sections, and that we're attempting to keep quality as our number one aim, not favouritism to a particular nation, or belief or religion. So, once again, thanks for your hard work. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:42, 31 May 2017 (UTC)

Quoted in the press

You might want to know that comments you made on Jimbo's talkpage were quoted in The Times of Israel. More info is at User talk:Smallbones. - Bri (talk) 00:37, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

Yes, please see [1] To find the quote about half-way down just search "clearly a very dodgy company". The article is mainly an interview with me based on my Signpost article at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2017-02-06/Special report, but of course the interviewer has her own take, her own non-Wikipedian audience, etc. I suggested that she check certain talkpages for background info, which is where she must have gotten this (Jimbo Talk archive 164). I suppose you might have wanted to be quoted by user name. Whoops! Sorry about that. Let me know if there is anything I can do. BTW thanks, "clearly a very dodgy company" is a pretty snappy quote that made the whole article better! Smallbones(smalltalk) 02:29, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

NPOV issue

Hi, I'm asking you specifically as an uninvolved editor who seems to have their head screwed on to take a look at Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view/Noticeboard#Pentecost. Each year Pentecost goes on the main page when it is celebrated (this year within 24 hours) and I am concerned about a spate of recent edits. I may be over-reacting. I just want outside opinions. --Andreas Philopater (talk) 00:27, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

Semi Protection

Hi Black Kite, I'm wondering on what basis you've SP'd the London Terror Attack article? You stated "Persistent disruptive editing", but I don't see this at all. can you clarify? Thanks. 86.185.30.254 (talk) 11:38, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

  • At the time (around 00:00-01:00 UTC) pretty much every IP edit was vandalism. This often happens on such articles on a breaking news story. Black Kite (talk) 12:50, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
Well that's interesting. I've just checked every IP edit in that timeframe and precisely one of them is vandalism. However, a couple of further observations; overall there were not that many IP edits, and some of them - including a couple of mine - were incorrectly flagged by the system as 'possible vandalism' (example: [2]. Maybe now is the time to try un-protection? 86.185.30.254 (talk) 13:04, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
Why not? It can always be re-protected. Probably best to ask at WP:RFPP in future though, in case the protecting admin isn't around. Black Kite (talk) 13:55, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
Okay, will do. Many thanks for looking at this. 86.185.30.254 (talk) 15:09, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Black Kite,

Thank you.

I've started adding to my userpage, explaining my motivations and my thoughts about site policy.

Maybe that will help.

"Bad Faith"

I'm making (or at least was attempting to make) a generic accusation of Sagecandor acting in bad faith. Power~enwiki (talk) 23:22, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

  • Not really the place for it, though. Unless Sagecandor is doing something that needs immediate admin intervention (which clearly they aren't), it should be at WP:DRN or similar. Black Kite (talk) 23:25, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

Help

Dear Black Kite, thank you very much for your recent comment on Janevistan fake article at Jimbo talk page. I would appreciate if you give the comment on the Village Pump at Serbo-Croatian Wikipedia were currently assistant to main editor explained that administrator deleted only the main page Janevistan because its different "thing" that the user page space [3] (see last at Village Pump). Any of your explanations about content at Village Pump at Serbo-Croatian Wikipedia could be helpful to eliminate Janevistan fake article forever. Thank you Sir for your support.93.86.57.116 (talk) 09:05, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

Vietnam War weapons

Although I would generally say that it is at best unseemly to express thanks for another editor having to be blocked, I do want to thank you for responding so quickly to my post earlier today at User talk:庄心勖. I also want to mention that the block template has the, "Once the block has expired..." language, which may seem odd for an indefinite block. Thank you again for being swift to notice the ping. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 18:41, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

  • Thanks for pointing that out, I obviously used the wrong script! I've changed it now, though given that the editor has never, ever, used any talk page in their editing career, it probably doesn't matter that much. Black Kite (talk) 19:22, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
It is an odd situation to carefully document something you know is never going to be read by the person concerned. On the other hand, just about everything about this editor's history here has been odd. Cheers. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 19:26, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

Black Kite, just a quickie, but how exactly do you nominate an image for deletion on commons? There doesn;t seem to be a twinke option any more (I'm sure there used to be, but.)- I ask because I found a problem image earlier and couldn't do anything about it. Thanks for any help! — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 14:24, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
There might be a quicker way, but I just add the {{copyvio|reason for deletion}} template manually on the page. Black Kite (talk) 14:34, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
I don't really don't think there is :) (unless, user permissions or something) but thanks for that- the traditional way never occured to me. D'oh. Cheers, — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 14:45, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

Got a mirror?

As much as I don't get along w/ Maxbrowne, you s/ really revert your block of him, if you can't resist comparing him to a 9-yr-old. (Why? Uncivil personal attack on your part, no matter how profusely you believe you are entitled & justified in calling someone a child. If you can't perform the same function of a block, minus the unnecessary unprofessional personal slight of the user, then I don't ask that you resign your tools as a hypocritical admin policy enforcer, I simply ask that you revert your block out of objective self assessment re the contradiction.) p.s. But admins have power, don't they, and can swing snide comments after swinging bats, since no admin is going to step in and counter the admin-police culture. That's why I've made this comment, a sorry-ass despicable deplorable member, deserving of snot. --IHTS (talk) 23:49, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Here's how to do it: "Your editsum name-calling a BLP article subject is unacceptable, so I'm blocking you for 1 week." (Simple. But you can't help adding "grow up" and the 9-yr-old comparison. But what am I doing instructing an admin how to be professional and not abusive & hypocritical?!) --IHTS (talk) 23:54, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

  • Perhaps my comments might actually persuade him to act like an adult. If not, there is no harm done. Sometimes, dull and neutral "you're blocked" doesn't actually have any effect, because it gives the impression that you can do the same again after the block expires. Black Kite (talk) 00:04, 30 June 2017 (UTC)
    • Oh give me a break. ("I beat my wife to teach her a lesson. Perhaps she's smarter now.") --IHTS (talk) 00:21, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

  1. Blocked for evasion — what's the parent account, i.e. whose block is this account evading? If you'd rather keep that private, I'm perfectly fine with no response.
  2. Please see WP:AN#Request to unblock IP, to which this block is highly relevant.

Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 23:49, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

PS, I now see that the WP:AN request is functionally duplicated by the two threads just above this one. Nyttend (talk) 23:50, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

Dispute with Dennis Bratland

I'm posting here because I am concerned about Dennis' "power" he uses to insert his bias into the article Franchesca Ramsey. Especially with this edit, as it is very opinionated and contains falsehoods (for instance, none of the sources say Ramsey was a target of rape threats, and the articles only specify one person who went to great lengths of harassing her). I added a section to the article which I'll admit could be seen as negative portrayal, but the full intent was to have the article mention the notable backlash she has received online, that is not in the form of harassment and racist threats, but rather denouncing her as anti-white. Which is a very popular opinion of her if you do quick YouTube research.

It is not a very civil discussion with him on the article's talk page, or my talk page.

Hope you can help us resolve this. Thanks. Ghoul fleshtalk 00:58, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

This post and the other one are violations of the canvassing guidelines. Please follow the Dispute resolution process. I don't see how a hand-picked admin like Black Kite can reasonably wade into such a dispute now. A neutral query at the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard, or at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography are good possibilities, but choosing User talk:Flyboyrob2112 because they obviously share your point of view is prohibited.

A far simpler solution would be to simply find and cite reliable sources for controversial statements about living people. Do that and there's nothing to dispute. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 01:53, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

Renewing rangeblocks

With regard to information listed on my work page, you set up a pair of rangeblocks that expired recently. The targeted person is back to their old tricks, so it would be great to see the rangeblocks renewed. Binksternet (talk) 21:44, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Revdel required?

Hi Black Kite, went by ANI today and came across a diff by this anon, User:2601:183:4103:8CA0:E47E:9557:7AE8:6D83, it is the only edit in their contribs and it make allegations against a person that may require revdel. Would you mind have a quick read and see if this is required? thanks Blackmane (talk) 23:20, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

Huldra CE ANI

Hi, I was just wondering why you closed the discussion. The edit summaries did not accurately reflect what was changed. Saying "adding hartman, ce" doesn't say why, for example, changing Second Temple to Roman Period. If you look at all edit summaries, Huldra was changing major content while using the minor CE or "adding Hartman, etc." which was not in the edit summary. Sir Joseph (talk) 18:16, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

  • Yes, but the complaint was merely about "CE", which wasn't the case. If there's a genuine case that an editor is repeatedly making POV edits that aren't covered by the edit-summary, in this case (since they're covered by sanctions) the venue is WP:AE, not WP:ANI. Black Kite (talk) 19:29, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
In both case the "ce" part was hiding a very POV edit which for unclear reasons was not specified, while the non-POV neutral parts were specified. How is that not a problem? Debresser (talk) 20:23, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

You are aware that your closure of that WP:ANI post is in complete dissonance with the opinions expressed in that thread? This is not the first time that you use your considerable force as an admin to (try to) repress valid POV issues I raise concerning editors, and I find that troublesome. I am not making any accusations, but do want to share my perception of the situation with you, and hear your take on it. Debresser (talk) 20:22, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

  • I've just told you above - if you have what you think are repeated issues at articles under Arbitration remedies, the venue is WP:AE, not WP:ANI. Use it, please. (And when/if you do use it, I'll recuse myself from it as well, so you don't think there's an issue). Black Kite (talk) 21:20, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
I have (tried to!) explain my edit on the talk page in question, that is Talk:Shuafat, Huldra (talk) 21:17, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
@Black Kite The closure of the WP:ANI section did not say that the correct venue is WP:AE. As to the question of whether that is indeed the case, I am not sure. I would only suggest that hiding anything substantial behind "ce" is a bad practice, so this can be considered to be a general issue as well. Regarding your willingness to recuse yourself from such discussion, that is definitely a gesture which I can only admire. Debresser (talk) 16:39, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Baby Wise Article reverted and protected

Hello Black Kite,

What do you mean by, "Article fully protected for a month, plenty of time for issues to be worked out on the talk page. There is clearly a COI/sockpuppetry/SPA issue here as well, so it makes sense to protect the article from disruption. Black Kite (talk) 19:34, 12 July 2017 (UTC)"

I laid out some pretty specific concerns about the article, mostly relating back to text written and supported by Binskternet. This has been addressed in the talkpage already for a very long time! He refuses to listen and the article in its current state is terribly misleading. Is it possible that instead of sockpuppetry issues, people actually have a real problem with how biased it is?

Thanks for your feedback, Melodiya52

Melodiya52 (talk) (UTC)

  • It is very possible that some other people have that problem, however the way they have gone about expressing it is disruptive; therefore a period where the article cannot be edited and discussion must take place is the standard Wikipedia process for dealing with it. Black Kite (talk) 22:25, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Your help

Hi there. You have been very helpful in the past assisting with rap music editors who habitually add unsourced content. I tagged a music editor's talk page with a few "unsourced content" warnings, the last one on June 12th. That editor, Horizonlove, responded by posting a notice on their talk page targeting me. I've been trying to get the notice removed, and brought it to ANI here. If you are able to assist I would appreciate it. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 19:25, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
