Untitled (rose-ring)[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering what is your source for the statement that the rose-ringed originated in the Indian subcontinent, thanks, jimfbleak 06:09, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ringnecked parakeet[edit]

Hi. The best thing you can do in a situation like this is to go to the talk page of the article, and provide the evidence you have there. Just a simple thing like Ringnecked parakeet XXXXX hits at google, Rose ringed parakeet x hits at google will make it verifyable for everybody at any stage. I have no problem with the name change, makes more sense to me also. And if you post something at a talk page, you can sign using 4 tildes ~~~~. That facilitates navigating from my page to yours. :-) KimvdLinde 01:08, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another little thing. If you move pages, you have to check for all the pages that link to it, and change the wikilinks to them to minimize the number redirects KimvdLinde 01:12, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to convince other editors, just saying you have researched it and such is not going to convince people. I can see on the number of contributions that you are relative new here, and although I do not object the move, other could and undo it just because you do not provide a reason for it. You are mistaken that you just can change the name without people noticing. I would have because I check these pages for vandalism frequently. And please, sign your posts at other peoples talk pages and the article talk pages with 4 tildes ~~~~. KimvdLinde 01:49, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for contacting me, although I watch this page anyway. A few points:

 1. Google is not an unarguable and unimpeachable source, and is heavily influenced by American usage; I think to justify this change you need to produce more official sources using Ringnecked. On the official BOU British list, this species is still Rose-ringed parakeet
 2. There is a long list of unfixed redirects from Rose-ringed (see "what links here"). It's too easy just to move the main page and leave the links unfixed.
 3. The suggestion from Kim above is for discussion - I see little evidence of that, or of your research
 4. It's polite to sign messages, which you can do with 4 tildes ~~~~

I'm not actually too bothered about the name change, but unless the links are fixed, I think it will have to go back to the original name jimfbleak 05:49, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I have the same issue already 20 years back when I had them too. Ringnecked just seems to be more common. But the official name in many books (including the by then parrot bible of Forshaw) use Rosenecked. I do not care about that name however, but others might. The main problem is that many pages link to the old page, and are now redirected to this one, see Special:Whatlinkshere/Ringnecked_Parakeet. Those need to be fixed. That is one of the most tedious tasks that come with page moves. As for that others can not change your edits, there is no way to do that, and if you would assume you can own a page, please read WP:OWN. However, good edits will remain, junk will be weeded out. KimvdLinde 21:00, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As above, you need to keep the rose-ringed redirect, but repoint the pages that link to that page directly to the new name. If you are not prepared to do that, you shouldn't have moved the page in the first place. I don't know why you are wanting this page protected from editing - I can do that, but it's normally done to prevent repeated vandalism - if you just don't want your edits changed, you are in the wrong place! jimfbleak 05:23, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Editing wikilinks[edit]

I think the question you are asking is primarily editing links. What I do is findingb the link to the specific name, for example Rose-ringed Parakeet (with underlying code Rose-ringed Parakeet) and replace the name with Ringnecked Parakeet (code: Ringnecked Parakeet) or leave the name as is (in official list recommended) but link directly to the correct page as Rose-ringed Parakeet (Code:Rose-ringed Parakeet). I have fixed all double redirects already, so it should not be to difficult to do the rest, just a lot of work. KimvdLinde 01:17, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Editing style[edit]

I have been reading some of your edits, and I think you might want to think about how you are approaching the reader. You have the tendency to address them directly, but that is not really encyclopedic. Instead, try to be as factual as possible, and leave the reader (you, your, etc) out of the text, so do not address them. It makes clearer text and makes it less likely that people will edit it. Try also to leave out word that are qualifyers, especially subjective qualifyers. You can like something, but the next person can hate it. Often, you can describe things better using more neutral words (see WP:NPOV for some ideas). KimvdLinde 01:41, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect links[edit]

Yes, it is a nasty long task to find the links, and to fix the redirects, but it has to be done. Just start with the page, and there is a toolbox at the left side, with a link to What links here. Then open the page in edit mode, and search for the link (which will be at the redirect page to srat with, so you can use that name to use Ctrl-F and such. KimvdLinde 21:55, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, there are two aspects on the link repair. One is the name, the second is to where page does the link point at. What I do is finding the link to the specific name, for example Rose-ringed Parakeet (with underlying code Rose-ringed Parakeet) and replace the name with Ringnecked Parakeet (code: Ringnecked Parakeet) or leave the name as is (in official list recommended) but link directly to the correct page as Rose-ringed Parakeet (Code:Rose-ringed Parakeet). Just try out at this page, how to change links. I in general would be carefull to change the names of all this pages, especially since you have not provided solid proof that it is the preferred name (which you have to provide at the Talk:Ringnecked_Parakeet page. I actually think you do that first, before changing all the names on wikipedia. KimvdLinde 03:21, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am not proposing to remove sourced content, and I can live with the name change, despite the lack of firm evidence if you are prepared to fix the links as above. jimfbleak 05:09, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikilinks versus external links[edit]

I undid your change of the bird safe link, as I think it is better to link to another wikipedia article than to a external site... KimvdLinde 02:50, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PROD tag added to article[edit]

I've added the "prod" template to the article Rogue Wave (graffiti artist), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Rogue Wave (graffiti artist). If you remove the dated prod template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. regards Marcus22 18:28, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

January 2015[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm ToonLucas22. I noticed that you made a change to an article, V (Maroon 5 album), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
