Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Benjamin Woolf. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). HI 331dot,
Thank you for your message. I'm an academic at the University of Cambridge who is funded by the RCUK and the Wellcome Trust. I don't have any financial connections to the RSG or other material COI, however reading the links you have sent I can see that Wiki might have a broader definition of a COI than I am used to. I am affiliated to/member of the RSG in the sense that I attend their weekly lectures, and find the history of the group interesting. When I speak to people about the history of the Group, I thought it might be worth writing a Wiki page about that, given its influence over the last 110 odd years. I don't know if this counts as a full conflict of interest, but I can see reading the pages you link above that this should be disclosed. I don't quite understand from the links above how to do this, could you please explain how to do so? Should I be writing a summary of the above on this on this page https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Benjamin_Woolf&action=edit&redlink=1
Thank you very much, and all the best,

Sorry, I missed out a bit of this sentence (a bad habit). I meant to write: "When I speak to people about the history of the Group they generally seem quite interested in it, so I thought it might be worth writing a Wiki page about that, given its influence over the last 110 odd years." Thank you, I am less concerned about this given your explanation. I don't think merely attending the activities of the group is a COI, any more than a Walmart customer would have one with regards to Walmart just for purchasing something. 331dot (talk) 00:27, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you 331dot. I can see you are a very experienced wiki editor so appreciate you taking the time to check up on me (this is the first page I've ever tried writing/seriously editing so any and all feedback is appreciated). Benjamin Woolf (talk) 00:46, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
